Alex Ovechkin’s Future with the Washington Capitals | Fehervary Injury Update & Milano’s Big Chance

Alex Ovechkin enters his 21st NHL season with the Washington Capitals at age 40, fresh off becoming the league’s all-time goals leader with 897. With just three goals away from the historic 900 mark, Ovechkin remains focused on chasing another Stanley Cup while leaving his future beyond this season undecided. Despite breaking Wayne Gretzky’s seemingly untouchable record, Ovechkin has shown no signs of slowing down after scoring 44 goals last season. Capitals GM Chris Patrick emphasized that Ovechkin has earned the right to decide his next steps on his own timeline, while coach Spencer Carbery noted that his motivation to win remains as strong as ever.

Meanwhile, defenseman Martin Fehervary is working through complications from offseason knee surgery after signing a seven-year extension, while forward Sonny Milano is determined to bounce back from an injury-plagued season as he enters the final year of his contract. With Ovechkin’s milestones, Fehervary’s recovery, and Milano’s fight for a roster spot, the Washington Capitals face an intriguing mix of storylines heading into training camp. Fans will be watching closely to see how these key players shape the team’s quest for another Stanley Cup run.

  1. I think that it is deferent with Ovechkin than Backstrom, Oshie, and others in that they HAD to retire because of injuries. For Ovi it is just up to him. Not good hearing about Fehervery. Thanks for the update on Milano. Just out of curiosity is Vrana still in the NHL?

  2. Im rooting for Milano's recovery amd hope he is good to go, but i think its time to see what we have in our younger options. I would be okay with Cristall Leno and Miro in a 3 player rotation alternating games in consistently to give them all opportunities. Even if the edge is slightly in Milano's favour id prefer to build up our future as we prepare for the nOvi era.

  3. I think and hope you’re wrong. I really think it depends on how he plays this year. If he has a season like last year I can’t see him not returning. Anyway, this COULD be his last season so I will definitely try to enjoy it. If he scores 50 then 1000 is in sight.
