17,675 announced attendance (tickets sold) for tonight. Any guesses on actual attendance?

  1. Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t that about the same attendance numbers of the late 1970’s Cardinals?

  2. I appreciate the empty sections. If they’re going to be mostly empty, they may as well be entirely empty.

  3. If the FO were to ask questions about this attendance, I would say, “Patience.”

  4. I went tonight, and it was by far the least people I’ve ever seen at a game.

  5. Just throw a dart at the excuse board… it’s hot, it’s cold, school, football season, economy, battlehawks, pirates have no stars

  6. I hate how they use “tickets sold” instead of “butts in seats.” Why not announce both?

Am I confused, or did they announce raised ticket/season ticket prices for next year? Ouch. Could be even worse next year.

I think there are several things at play here:

    1. Ownership not really “trying” to win. Like, they’re spending just enough to be semi-competitive and hopefully fight for a wildcard spot. I mean, being in contention for the playoffs is often compelling, but this team just isn’t it. I personally have ZERO confidence in this team with the “get in and anything can happen” model. No, no it can’t.

    2. The current financial climate surely isn’t helping. Everything is so motherfucking expensive now. Pretty much everything has gotten significantly more expensive since covid with no end/relief in sight. We’re getting hammered from all angles. Not just on discretionary spending, but essentials like home prices/rent, utilities, food, etc.

    3. I can’t imagine the current political climate is helping. There are two alternate truths/realities going on. Either things are fine and rosy, or the sky is falling. I have no idea what percentage of people are in the “sky is falling” category, but I don’t think it is insignificant……and I doubt many of those people are concerned about a barely mediocre baseball team.

  7. So many teams around the league have nightly attendance and views like this in their ballpark. For a decade or two I always thought thank god the cardinals stadium doesn’t look like that but now it’s here. They messed up a good thing and I don’t know how not when it’s going to come back.

  8. Why would you spend money to go when they are coasting to the end of the season to blow it all up and start fresh in the offseason?

  9. The absolute worst part is – I was going to go, wanted to sit down in 145 like I usually do when I choose to go to a game – ticket prices were still $50 a piece. What an absolute joke.

  10. Spending my first 25 years in STL made me a huge Cards fan. Anytime we would be near St Louis during baseball season I made sure to take everyone to a game. Have created a lot of Cards fans in Milwaukee, Green Bay, Chicago etc. My wife (born Giants fan) is now a diehard Cards fan but I can’t take her back again. We went last year and it was just depressing.

Bad thing is we had the opposite experience at Blues games. We choose best bang for the buck and right now in St Louis it’s hockey. Auggie is rolling in his grave.

  11. “Wow the fans really do deserve better” Bill said as he pulled up the blanket, his body settling on the 10,000 thread count Egyptian cotton sheets.

  12. This is wild to say but the only time I went to Busch this season was for a Savanah bananas game…

  13. Hey Bill, just be patient with us fans and trust the process. We’ll come around and fill the seats again. You just have to give us your unquestioning loyalty no matter what. You’ll see just give it some more time

  14. The question is whether or not the ownership wakes up in time. Or do we become a second or third tier organization?
