The title is self explanatory. I don’t know why he is not in, or how anyone could justify him not being in. Basically 400 homers, 1199 RBI’s, .284/.376/.527/.903 slash with a 132 ops+. Let’s not forget he’s one of, if not, the best defensive center fielders ever. He also made the best catch a center fielder has ever made (although Willie mays may have an argument). The same argument is made for Andruw Jones (who 100% should be in). I will not rest until Edmonds and Jones are in.

  1. I agree he should be in. But even if he shouldn’t be in, someone with his career being off the ballot after one year is insane

  2. It’s bullshit hes not in lots of guys deserving and not in, really cant take the voting serious anymore

  3. Because there are three better center fielders from his own era (Beltrán, Lofton, Jones) who have not gotten in yet. Once those three get in, then we can start having discussions about Edmonds.

  4. Andruw’s gonna get in next year, which makes it even crazier that Edmonds dropped off the ballot after just one year. If he’d hit 7 more HRs he’d have stuck around a lot longer

  5. Just watched the Jolly Olive video about the Hall of Fame hating center fielders. Kenny Lofton, Andruw Jones, and Jim Edmonds should all be in the Hall of Fame, though I’d say of those three Edmonds is easily the least deserving.

There’s no argument for Edmonds being the best defensive center fielder of all time. Jones, Mays, Griffey, and a couple others all smoke him in that category. Hell he’s not even top 10 in defensive WAR. He also barely missed out on 2,000 hits which, like it or not, is still an important metric for a lot of voters.

I still think he should be in, but he’s basically right on the line of what constitutes a hall of fame position player for me.

  6. The catch is great but he took a terrible route to the ball, many other center fielders would have never been in that bad position

  7. If Harold Baines and Ron Santo are in why not. Also none of the 3 should be in.

  8. He should’ve stayed on the ballot for more than one year but Jim Edmunds is not a Hall of Famer.

  9. Yes he should be. But Lofton, Jones, and Beltran are all more deserving CF. Jones and Beltran will make it soon.

  10. Jones before Edmonds, Jones is the best defensive CF ever, and if Mazeroski, Smith and Brooks Robinson are in, he should be too. Edmonds did make spectacular catches and was a good hitter, but he was definitely a step below Jones as a fielder. Offensively they’re similar but Edmonds was a better hitter. Not sure if Edmonds deserves enshrinement because of the 140 runs saved he falls short of Jones, but his bat was pretty good to make up for some of that. Jones not being in despite being the all time leader in runs saved while guys like Maz and Rabbit Maranville are in just makes it worse.

  11. Thinking they should be in n isn’t the same as them being a hall of famer. If he doesn’t get in, no matter how much you think he should, he’s not a hall of famer. Choose your words better.

  12. In this modern HOF. Yeah he should be in

If the HOF was actually only “those dudes” nah he misses it. No major milestones, no longevity, roid era really overshadows his prime.

Scott Rolen should be one of the worst players in the HOF…. and hes better thn Jimmy

But now anyone with60war gets in

  13. While Edmonds had a great career, his overall numbers might not be enough for the Hall. Let’s not rush to conclusions without considering all factors.

  14. Every time you hear mike and the mad dog grouse about how writers are idiots if they “vote for 10 guys every ballot” just go back and look at any BBWAA ballot since 1966 when they started voting every year; the average ballot has more than 10 hall of famers on it. Edmonds just had terrible timing with an overloaded ballot.

  15. Cards fan here to disagree with some other Cards fans. Hall of Very Good. Not HOF.

  16. Jim Edmonds never missed the opportunity to dive after a ball Andruw Jones would have been standing under.

  17. I agree (to an extent). He’s definitely in my personal hall of fame. Someone I’ll be talking to my kids about. Him, Brian Giles, and Shawn Green.

  18. I remember just watching that catch with my mouth open in awe. It was insane and even after the catch you waited for someone to tell you it wasn’t real.

  19. The common opinion I’ve been getting on this post is that Jones and lofton should be in before Edmonds, but they all should be in. I agree completely with all of that
