  1. It's hard to tell if we're playing 500k for per save or 1m/ per blown save.

Personally, if it's me, I'm transitioning Hoffman to the rotation for next year. 11m is a strong closer salary, but it's perfect middling starter money too – like Kikuchi.

If they can turn him into a 4.50 ERA starter (that's a quality start every time out), then that's a steal.

  2. This bullpen is a concern for sure. If the Jays want to make a deep playoff run the bullpen as to be better. When the Jays won it all in 1991 and 1992, they had Henke and Ward. Now Hoffmans' numbers are basically the same as Henkes' but who on the Jays fills the Duane Ward roll. This is a really good team, and they will make the playoffs this season. After that 2024 season that is amazing. By the way back in 1991 and 1992 a lot of Jays fans believed that Henke wasn't that good of a closer.

  3. I have no faith in Hoffman and Little as well. Schneider can't manage his pitching at all. Way too much in pitcher substitutions. Take Lauer and make him the closer for the remainder of the season. Little is a waste of space as well. It must be a horror show to be a catcher for this guy as every pitch is in the dirt.

  4. Blue Jays' fans, in the 90's we had Duane Ward,8th inning, and Tom Henke, 9th inning. Lights out, game over. Today, we have Petro Canada, 8th inning, and Jeff Gasoline, 9th inning. Lead gone, game lost. What a difference!

  5. Little and Hoffman are not getting it done. Hoffman can give up hits, but all of these homers are not acceptable. We would have had a chance to win it (like the Brewers did last night after blowing their lead against Arizona) if he hadn't given up that 3-run homer. I agree with you that he should have been pulled before facing Wallner (a .215 hitter by the way). Also, we need Varland to turn things around, and Fisher needs to return as soon as his 15 days are up. The Brewers are going to kill us.

  6. The thing about Hoffman is that you can usually tell if he has his stuff together within the first couple of pitches of the inning.

If he doesn’t locate his first 5 pitches, he doesn’t have his stuff that night.

  7. Considering the Jays have the hardest remaining schedule in the AL East maybe the AL in general these all seem like must win games. We may have lost our chance to gain a significant gap against the Red Sox and Yankees, i hope they step up big going forward or else this might get stressful in September.
