  1. Well then one year ago today was a really shirty day (and a lot longer) for a lot of us, I’m from Calgary and man was that an emotional ride

  2. I remember waking up that day and seeing that headline on the phone and waking my roommate up when I said a long “fuckkkkkkkkkk shit Johnnys gone”.

  3. I still can’t believe he’s gone. And let us not forget his brother who also was killed, and his family that he and his brother left behind.

To think it was the night before his sister’s wedding…

I remember constantly refreshing the subreddit and news pages that night. I knew at some point before I went to bed that it had to be real. Stuff like that doesn’t just pop out of nowhere.

It’s a massive shame there are still people who drive drunk. It’s a massive shame that the Gaudreau brothers aren’t here with us anymore.

What I do know is that they both were watching the Blue Jackets all season last season and I know they were still with them, even if they couldn’t see them. They will always be there with their teammates, friends, and family.

  4. Fuck how has it already been a year? I remember like it was yesterday seeing a post on r/hockey titled “did Johnny Gaudreau Pass Away” and thought it was just a shit post talking about his underwhelming point totals with Columbus or something. But when I read the rest of it and realized they were being serious I spent the next 2 hours refreshing every news and social media platform waiting for it to be debunked. Eventually I went to bed and prayed it was fake. Woke up, first thing I did was open Reddit, first thing I saw on the front page was his black and white photo.

  5. Don’t drink and drive, and don’t be an ass hole who thinks its fine to drink and drive.

  6. For those curious, the dude is in jail right now pending trial.

    >Sean M. Higgins, 44, was indicted on two counts of reckless vehicular homicide, two counts of aggravated manslaughter, one count of tampering with physical evidence and one count of leaving the scene of a fatal accident. He could face 70 years in jail if convicted of all charges. Higgins has pleaded not guilty and turned down a plea offer of 35 years.

Sounds like he’ll spend the rest of his life in jail. I think I’m OK with that. He’s made several motions to suppress evidence, and the judge is having none of it.

We’ll get some justice, but not enough, and that is a shame.

  7. It might be a year but im still just as sad, I’m still just as upset and I’m still just as pissed off at the prick who did this.

    Only I’m a year older….

  8. 2025 so far is clearly worse, but there were moments like this last year that made me want to give up too.

  9. Can’t believe it’s been a year already. RIP boys. I’ll never forget that night and Reddit post, seems like the majority of us couldn’t go to bed that night without hearing. Heartbreaking, I hope the family finds some sort of peace
