They actually get hats that are a bit different to the retail ones. His has a high crown that it’s probably steamed and shaped like that.

Probably the same thing my dad did when he was in the army, he used a stiff piece of cardboard to keep it rigid. He did the same thing with ball caps, they looked like this. It was the 80’s I don’t have a link.
