NORTON — Sometimes the third time isn’t a charm.

Jeeno Thitikul, Hannah Green and Lauren Coughlin were closing in on their final hole for Round 2 of the FM Championship when the storm clouds started to roll in.

The trio, who teed off at 8:06 a.m. on Friday at TPC Boston, were delayed two other times throughout the day due to rain. They didn’t want it to be a third time, especially with how close they were to the finish line.

So they, along with their caddies, started running.

“I don’t know who kind of said, ‘Let’s do it.’ I think it was probably Jeeno, and all of us completely agreed,” Green said. “We didn’t want to have to wait for one more delay. We were all slowly jogging and Jeeno was going quicker and we’re all catching up and all the caddies ran as well.

“I think if we didn’t run on that hole we would still be putting on the ninth green. I am just glad it was a team effort and that everyone wanted to finish after already two delays.”

Before the second weather delay was put into effect, Green had a difficult shot to make. She admitted had she tried to beat the weather, she might not have birdied.

Thitikul, the world’s No. 1 ranked women’s golfer, finished 4-under on Friday to put her at 7-under going into Round 3 tied for seventh. Coughlin is 2-under for the tournament, tied for 49th and Green is tied for third at 8-under.

RAIN HALTED SECOND ROUND — There were three separate rain delays that impacted the second round. The round was officially called at 7:15 p.m. due to darkness. Those who didn’t finish their second round on Friday will resume at 7 a.m. on Saturday.

There are 72 players still to finish their second rounds.

The third round is expected to start at around 12:30 p.m.

TWO MASS. NATIVES MISS CUT — Westborough’s Alexa Pano and Shrewsbury’s Brittany Altomare missed the cut after Round 2 at TPC Boston. Pano shot even par on Friday, putting her at 1-over for the tournament. She shot 1-over on Day 1.

Pano’s total score was 145.

Altomare shot 2-under in Round 2 to put her at 2-under through Round 2. She shot 4-over in Round 1. Altomare’s total score was 146.

The projected cut line was 2-under.

LPGA ROOKIE CONTINUES TO SHINE — Miranda Wang’s momentum from her strong back nine in Round 1 continued Friday. The 26-year-old sits atop the leaderboard at 11-under after two rounds.

“My first time in this position, but I’m not unfamiliar with the leaderboard,” Wang said. “I will do my best this weekend, and this year we have really strong rookies coming in. It’s really competitive. I just want to keep up with the best.”

HOW WORLD’S TOP TWO RANKED WOMEN’S GOLFERS FARED — Thitikul finished 4-under in the second round to put her tied for seventh at 7-under for the tournament. Nelly Korda, who’s ranked No. 2, finished 2-under through four holes.
