UPDATE: This Story Keeps Getting Stranger… 🤔 | Pistons Jack Reacts

The Malik Beasley gambling situation just took another bizarre turn and we’re going to do our best to break it all down in just a moment. So only just yesterday I dropped a video breaking down up to 12 different teams that have either shown interest in signing Malik Beasley or have the necessary funds to offer uh a significant deal to Beasley for not only this upcoming season but for future years. And the following day we’ve had a article drop from Front Office Sports which goes through all the latest on the Malik Beasley situation. And as you can see here on the right, uh NBA Central tweeted this out. Um, we will go through it extensively in just a moment, all the key points, but I woke up to this tweet and as you can see here, Malik Beasley is still under investigation in the gambling probe and could still face charges per front office sports. Malik Beasley isn’t fully in the clear from the federal gambling investigation, though he’s no longer considered a target in the Eastern District of New York’s probe. He remains a subject, meaning his conduct is still under review and charges are possible, something his lawyers have acknowledged. Now, the key piece in all of this is the change in Belique from being a target to a subject. So, Beasley is no longer a target anymore, and this was confirmed by his attorneys. This is in the article um which is linked down below, but he remains a subject, meaning he’s still connected but not at the center of it all. So, as of right now, there is still a chance there could be some charges for Malik. Now, uh within the article, his attorney says that um they are hopeful that Malik can play in the upcoming season and he can also sign a deal and continue his career. Uh so it’s it’s tricky some as someone who’s not fully across how the law works especially obviously in the US uh I’m trying my best to understand this here but obviously Malik the news that came out four or five days ago now that he’s not at the center of it he’s not a target is good news. Um, but it’s still important to note that the MBA itself is still conducting its own investigation, internal review, and they still have authority to impose a sanction on Malik. Whether or not that’s the full ban that was initially thrown out, when you compare it to the Jonte Porter case, uh, we do not know. But he’s essentially in a very similar situation to Terry Rosier, who’s on the Miami Heat. Uh the difference is and we’ve spoken about this the entire time anytime this situation has come up is that uh Terry Rosier was had a multi-year contract at the time of this coming up and of course you are always innocent until proven guilty which is what Malik Beasley is. Uh but Malik unfortunately just doesn’t have a contract. So Terry Rosie will continue playing for the Miami Heat this season. I believe he’s on an expiring deal this season. But um they are essentially in the same ballpark where they’re still under investigation from the NBA and uh well and like like I said for Malik, he’s not a target, but he’s still subject to a part of it feels like the NBA is doing and the uh the New York Eastern District of New York, there’s this huge sports gambling investigation going on and obviously Malik’s been tied to it. Terry Rosier has been tied to it. So, uh, that’s kind of the latest update. So, in terms of fans that were hopeful and really excited and I know there’s a lot of buzz around teams signing Malik, I do think this puts like a slight halt on that just a little bit, but I still think there is a chance, a very real chance he signed for the upcoming season. What I will say is because we got this update from Michael Scottto of Hoops Hype this morning uh officially linking the Pistons as we can see but uh Scottto said the Detroit Pistons and Minnesota Timberwolves have recently touched base on Malik Beasley along with the New York Knicks and Cleveland Cavaliers sources told Hooptype it’s worth noting Cavs shooting guard Max is expected to miss three to four months after a Jones fracture foot surgery. So those are the four teams that have like officially been linked to Malik. We spoke about yesterday all of the teams who have more than 7.2 million that they can offer. Uh like the Brooklyn Nex have 15 million in cap space uh left. There’s teams like Indiana, uh Charlotte, Chicago, Washington who have their mid level of around 13 to 14 million left. However, with this still looming, I until he’s fully cleared as not even a subject, I can’t imagine teams are going to sign Malik to one of those doubledigit deals of like 14 million. I do think it’s more likely, and this is why we’re seeing teams like the Timberwolves, Knicks, and Cavs all interested, teams that I believe can only offer vet mins, why they are still interested, because if you’re just going to offer a veteran minimum to Malik, then it’s not as big of a loss. uh to your cap if something were to happen from this. And the Pistons, of course, being the fourth team mentioned here, they can offer 7.2 million for this season, they can offer a 4-year, I think $31 million deal, which is still the 7.2 million just across four years. Uh so, it’s interesting. You do have to wonder the Pistons are an over cap team. Would they that they of all these four teams can still give the best offer? They obviously had Malik on the team last year. I guess if this investigation is still looming, do they want to have this um you know looming over their team, as much as they like might love to have Malik back, it is still somewhat of a distraction which is it’s unfair on Malik because and and his um attorney said as much like this thing is just looming and it’s prohibiting Malik’s limiting his opportunities. But until there’s a resolution, I guess bringing Malik on board, you do have this thing looming, this investigation, even if he’s not the target. So uh whilst this thing is ongoing, I do think those teams like I mentioned who can offer like like Chicago say can offer 14 million like even teams like OKC can offer eight and a half. I just can’t see teams committing that kind of cap to Malik with this situation. Maybe I’m just foolish. Maybe no team will even offer the minimum. But considering we’ve seen the Knicks and Cavs linked yesterday and then the Pistons and Timberwolves today, it does feel like teams are like considering this and the Pistons, like I said, of these four teams can put forth the best offer. So, that’s kind of the state of play. What are your thoughts? If this investigation continues, would you still sign Malik? Uh, I I’ve never dealt and seen this kind of thing play out before with non-restricted free agent. So, like I’m really don’t not going off my cheer. Like I said, Terry Rosie is the only other case that’s ongoing and he was contracted prior to it uh coming all out. So, he’s still going to continue to play. Um, yeah, I’d love to hear your thoughts. For me, I think like I think adding Malik just for purely a basketball standpoint, like I think this would push the Pistons to like firmly in the top four in the East. I really believe that. I think they can very much do top four without him, but I think like they would be within that top four no matter what. um with Malik is like their you know you add him your 10-man rotation of Cade, Ivy, Assar, Tobias, Jaylen Duran, Isaiah Stewart, Rowan Holland, Duncan Robson, Carousel, and Malik Beasley. Like that is an incredibly well-rounded team that can shoot, defend, protect the rim. You got your star in Cade, your shooters in Malik and Duncan, like two of the best in the league. Like bit of ISO scoring there with Carris Levert, Jayen Ivy back. Like man, that’s a stack 10man lineup. uh who knows what wrong can do. So I think getting someone like Malik back will be make this team pretty good. But I also it’s hard to understand like what kind of impact this investigation could have on like just the team itself as like from a from a media standpoint like how is this portrayed in you know like as in as part is it a part of the Piston story for the season? And is that something like they want Traan and JB as unfair as that might be on Malik himself like the team has to come first. So it’s interesting. I’d love to hear your thoughts. Would you bring back Malik on like a one-year vet minimum or would you just give him the 7.2 and bring him back for the year even with this this looming? Obviously we all hope this thing is fully cleared up and um you know he’s back a piston without this. But that’s kind of the state of play right now. Let me know your thoughts. We appreciate all your support and until next time as always go Pistons.

  1. Something tells me he's rolled over for the feds. Not completely out of it, but talked his way out of being the prime suspect/target
