Oneil Cruz Hits Massive Homer in Win | Pirates vs. Red Sox Game Highlights (8/30/25)
The Red Sox Pirates game two from Fenway after the old place was rocking last night, the Sox slipped behind the Yankees by half a game in the division and the wild card and look to regain that ground this afternoon. Dustin made a right hander, take the Red Sox on to the diamond Sox wearing their city connect Boston marathon unties today. 479 A took the loss the only one. The Red Sox suffered on that 7 to 1 road trip, bouncing ball left side and picked by Bregman. The third baseman. 360 spin gets past the first baseman, Romi Gonzalez. Gonzalez could not make the play. Bregman certainly did what happened there? We just missed it. I think he just missed it. I think it just went under the bottom of the glove triolo safe at first and may in some quick trouble, the error and now base hit. So reynolds takes ball for nobody out. Bases jammed for tommy fan. This is why defense is so important in regards to setting the tone. Now, bases loaded, got to go out and make a pitch right here, damage control. You still dustin may right here. He’s still going to come up in games. You feel like you need to win. One of those being a bouncer. Bregman on the bare hand to take the lead coming in quickly bare hand. Bregman RB I for scores Triolo one, Pirates Horowitz to third. Reynolds to second and a soft ground ball. Gonzalez will handle that and that’s all they get the one run. All things considered not too bad and ends in inning could have been a lot bigger one Red Sox Trail as we go to the bottom of the first inning against the Pirates. Johan Oviedo just his fourth start. Picked up a win 14 punch outs in just 10 innings pitch is over for a called third strike 96 miles an hour in a half and he strikes out Roman Anthony looking, that was a great pitch right there from a couple of breaking balls and two pitches before so sped him up perfectly placed with 97 123401 inning down at Fenway, one Pirates, one of the tallest men in baseball. Left hand hitting center fielder oil Cruz 6 ft seven swag going to miss went up top with the fastball sets down Cruz real fast for the first out of the second inning. I tell you what the fastball plays. That was 90 four is right down. The pipe throws him completely with a sweeper two down. It’s a great pitch right there again. It swung on, foul tipped the, he went four seam. He, he, he strikeout strikeout strikeout has been on fire this month of August and he leads off of the base hit to left field facing the two hitter, spencer Hoitz who singled back in the first swing animus with the sweeper put him away. He has struck out four of the last five pirates. One gone in the third triolo, not a burner over there, but he does have nine bases. He’s kind of in and out there a little further every pitch. He’s thinking about it. He’s running. Here’s the throw by Narvaez, the tag and he is out, he cut him down. Narvaez put it right there. Gorgeous throw. It’s the 26th man that he has cut down this year. He put that on the first base side corner of the second base bag story, put the tag down. I mean, it doesn’t get better than that. Carlos Narvaez just tossed out a base dealer looking at his offense coming into 243 with 11 home runs. He’s going to lead off here, swing and a drive that’s back and it is gone into the monster seats. Carlos going yard and we’re tied 11 his 12th after a pretty good start today. It’s out of here. We’re tied out of carlos Narva solo home run in the third. Get himself right at the plate, gets a good pitch to hit right there and absolutely crushed that ball, the wall. If I hit the wall, I would have gone through it. Second homer he’s given up now in 12 innings of work, he swings and misses down on three pitches. Chase the curve and there’s one down in the third inning, just picked him apart too quick at bats for Roman Anthony couldn’t hold up, strikeout. Going back to the fastball there gets him to go on the fastball and back to back strikeouts for Oviedo five story in the third Red Sox have the go ahead run 90 ft away with one out in the bottom of the fourth inning infield comes in now. One out. Roy Gonzalez is the batter. He struck out his first time up three hits last night and a base hit in center field. The Red Sox have the lead. He does give you a quality at bat. He drives in Trevor story and the Red Sox are on top 2 to 1. We talked about what he did last night against Paul Skes and just continues today. Really nice piece of hitting right there. Red Sox who were kind of befuddled first time through against all these sliders and curveballs and we’ve seen the swings look a lot better second time through. So base hit a hit batsman and ball four and they’re all loaded up with nobody out for the second time in the game against dustin May. He’s about to throw 1/7 pitch. It’s certainly not what you’re looking for out of Dustin May against this line. Now, he’s got a man at every base for reynolds who can be very dangerous looking down there. Everybody is moving around in the red Sox bullpen and nobody throwing yet. He is four for 11 this year in these situations, 364 batting average in the base hit in will score and Brian Reynolds gives the Pirates the lead here in the fifth. That’s huge. Brian Reynolds delivers a two run single in the fifth inning and the Bucks have regained the lead. It’s three that’s big for Brian reynolds and the Pirates right there. RB I 67 and 68 didn’t feel that coming Tommy Pham now zero for two but with an RB I on a ground down first innings, pham with a base hit, sees it down. He’ll come in and the Pirates with a three run fifth and counting Pham’s second RBI I today he just continues to collect RB does Tommy Pham and the boo Birds are out once again here in Boston, this is turned in inning for May whether he knows he has a pitch count or not. You don’t tell him wins, don’t matter. We know he wants to get through this fifth inning. Here comes roman Anthony struck out looking and swinging against Johan Oviedo, swing and a miss in the strikeout. Anthony goes down for a third straight time on strikes, two outs again on that curveball from Johan Oviedo. This one was perfectly pleased. Right on the outside corner, Cruz will lead off for the pirates. Cruz. He has struck out and flied out against dustin May. Bucks up 42 and a fly ball to center field back. Is Rafaella looking up and this ball is gone over the green monster above the 379 side on to the monster o’neil Croz with an absolute blast. The home run his 19th and it is 52 pirates blast is right. My goodness. That is an estimated 426 ft for o’neil Cruz. And he takes Paul four. That is going to be it for dustin May as alex Cora, the manager of the Red Sox has made his way out for a lot more against the Pittsburgh Pirates today than May. And now the game is very much on the left arm of Brennan Bernardino left on left against Spencer Hz is a line drive base hit into center for Horowitz and here comes the throw to the plate and Joey Bart is safe because the ball gets away from the catcher Narbaez and that will allow Jerry Reo to score as well. And going into second base RB I single for Horowitz and the Pirates have opened up a 72 lead and it got away from the catcher before Barnes slid through, just couldn’t pick it and it continues. It’s 7 to 2. Now in the sixth inning, we’ve seen this a couple of times with Bernardino this season, we just can’t find the plate. Now, the bases are low still 13 pitches, three strikes back to back walks Gonzalez will come up. He is the ninth pirate the bat so far a three run inning. The only one without a hit good time for one over the mound up there, but it snakes through for a two run single and the third base goes tommy Fitz and Reynolds score. It is 92 Pirates again great baserunning and the Pirates will add another on that bouncing ball that sneaks through all going wrong right here. The last two innings. Mike Burls comes on in relief for the Pittsburgh Pirates for the first time since June the 25th Sox have a huge gap to make up but they have the first couple of runners on. Here’s Roman Gonzalez base hit last time floater to right. That’s going to drop out for base hit to send him and he will score Gonzalez his second RB I single today. Nine to three and he got hit. He tried to swing the bat. They point out he didn’t go loaded with one out in the bottom of the sixth inning. Settled down. You mentioned Mike Burroughs growing up a red Sox fan and coming to Fenway Park as a kid probably got some extra nerves and excitement going on swing and a miss struck him out and back to his go to the changeup. That’s the pitch for Mike Burroughs that changeup. He gets good action on it now, two outs and he just kept fastballs and Burroughs gets out of it. That tells you something. Mike Burroughs in Boston. After all that, the red Sox score once, 2nd and 3rd Cruz at the plate, the infield forced to play and they can’t afford to give up any more runs o’neill at the plate and the pitch jacks ball gets away. Here comes Mccutchen and Narvaez doesn’t know where it is. And here comes Nick Gonzalez and the Pirates are going to score two unless that ball bounced up. We lose sight of it. It bounced out of play. They’re going to force Gonzalez to go back to third. I think the ball maybe even came up off the signage behind home plate and came up onto the netting Pirates. Now lead it 10 to 3 on the wild pitch. The Bucks trying to take the series and Evan Sisk will try to finish it up for Pittsburgh and a pop up. This is going to do it as Hurwitz makes the catch in front of Gonzalez raises the Jolly Roger. The Pirates have won the series here at Fenway in Boston. Yeah, I rarely say this and I hate saying it, but you’ve got to flush it and forget it.
The Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Boston Red Sox 10-3 at Fenway Park on August 30, 2025. Johan Oviedo picked up his second win of the season, striking out six in five innings. Oneil Cruz hit a massive home run, while Bryan Reynolds, Tommy Pham and Nick Gonzales drove in two runs apiece in the win.

When the games mean nothing, the bucs are dangerous.
The Red Sox played as bad as their uniforms.
laughs in Blackbeard spoiler
Why'd they wait til august to string together a few good at bats.
We’re doing our best Barbossa and taking contenders down to the depths with us.
60-76. Too bad the season has been over since may
Blue jays fan here. Thank you so much for beating Boston Bucs.
Why was that big blonde pitcher crying after the game?
Good think Cruz got a hit, cause had he not, his AVG would have fell below .200. That is not so massive !
Cruz is good for a mammoth homer every now and then, but he’s barely batting .200 and cannot field any position. They should have traded him to a contender when they had a chance.
No way Sox can win with yellow (yellow!) uniforms in Boston. So wrong.
Oneal Cruz had all 5 tools and should be an MVP contender. That he’s not speaks to two things mainly: his mental state and inability to focus, and the MISERABLE COACHING AND DEVELOPMENT staff that the Pirates employ. They have the worst equipment in the league, and have no grasp on development. My Buccos are a disgrace. They are wasting him. Good win in Boston I guess.
If the Pirates had played this kind of baseball in June and July, they would be contending. Horowitz continues to be impressively solid.
We did it again, aided and abetted by some sloppy play on the part of the Red Sox.
Red Sox with panties colored uniforms WTF!!!
If they only played this way earlier in the season , who knows???
Massive home run?hose altuve hits balls further than 426 feet plus the ball just made it over the wall.Bad headline!
Let’s go Cruz
