Blue Jays vs Brewers Game 136 (HOFFMAN BLOWS!!!) (August 30th, 2025)

I think I can speak for every single Jay’s fan when I say I really hope I really really hope this was the final straw for Jeff Hoffman. And I’m going to give you guys some crazy stats here. So Jeff Hoffman technically did not blow a save today, but he goes out there in this game against the uh the Milwaukee Brewers. A 1-1 game in the ninth facing the two, three, four hitters. He throws four pitches, two of which leave the ballpark. And the booze are raining down on Jeff Hoffman at Roger Center. I was at the ball game. They were very loud. They were very loud. Did I boo? No, I didn’t. Um, but I I get it. I understand people booing because here you go, Jayce Vans, in 55 and two/3 innings this year, Jeff Hoffman has allowed 14 home runs. Okay? Or I guess you know what, he 56 in two/3s if you add today’s ball game. So 60 56 and two/3 innings, he’s allowed 14 home runs. Remember a fell named Chad Green? He threw 43 and two/3. So again, you know, 13 less innings than Jeff Hoffman. They’ve allowed the same amount of home runs. Now, yes, Jeff Hoffman’s run 13 more innings, so of course he’s gonna have more blah blah blah. Not 14 homers. One dude was DFAD, the other guy is still closing games in a pennant race. It’s got to stop. Whether you believe that a certain Anthony Dominguez or Louis Varlin or someone else can get it done or not, you gota you got to stop beating your head over the wall over against a wall and do the same thing as Dr. Phil would say. Is it working for you? The answer is no. So change something. Ke Mat asked John Schneider after the game about Jeff Hoffman’s role. And this is quote from John Schneider. He’s got 29 saves. He’s shown that he can do it. We’ve got to figure it out. Not just him, but multiple guys. They’re throwing. There’s strike throwing and there’s locating. We’re going to make the best decision for everyone to try to win every single night. Now, people are going to get pissed off with that response, but let me let me try and tell you this. Did he say in that quote that he is still our guy and that we trust him? No, he did not. We’ll see. We’ll see what ends up happening the next time the Jays have a save opportunity and what ends up happening. But that quote right there again, they asked him about Jeff Hoffman’s role and all he says is he’s got 29 saves. He’s shown in the past that he can do it. We’ve got to figure it out. Not just him, but multiple guys are strike throwing and locating. Jeff Hoffman has not had a problem throwing strikes. I know Jay’s fans remember that five walk game that he had. And you’re like, “Ah, he just walks everybody.” No. In 56 and two/3s, I don’t think he walked anybody. He might have walked one guy today. In 56 and two/3 innings, he’s allowed 19 walks in 76 75 punch outs in in 55 innings going into play today. That’s in That’s great. A whimp of 1.13. It’s great. But he allows bombs. And as a closer, you can’t let that happen. Anyways, also Keegan Mat, I haven’t read this yet actually. Jeff Hoffman spoke with us and said that he’s disappointed but confident he can adjust and bounce back. This is the quote from Jeff Hoffman. Uh we’ve got a lot of guys who are trying really hard in there. You don’t want to be the guy that ruins it for everybody uh for the night. Ruins it for everybody for the night. Tomorrow is a new day. So basically said nothing. Got it. Um, he also said, uh, says he needs to pitch inside, adding, “My stuff has not been great and when the stuff’s not great and the execution’s not great, and that’s when you get hit.” Shocking. What’s the adjustment? Was asked uh stuff that you guys won’t understand. So, I’ll just keep it to myself. Fair enough. So, there’s all the Jeff Hoffman stuff we got for the day for you guys. Meanwhile, the Jays lose this one 4-1. They lose 4-1 to the Milwaukee Brewers. They’ve lost the series now. And yeah, as much as we want to talk about Jeff Hoffman and how good Kevin Gosman was, your offense sucked, like flat out. They had nothing against Peralta yesterday. And today they had nothing really going against uh what’s his face um Priest that started the ball game for them. They had they had a couple opportunities. They didn’t score much. All you got today was a sacrifice fly from Vladimir Guerrero Jr. in the bottom half of the sixth inning which gave you the lead. The problem is you would never have got that run if they didn’t screw up a double play. Now, hey, you made them pay for a mistake. So, good on you, I guess. But that’s the only run you scored today. The only three runs you’ve scored this the last couple of games has been this run here and two runs in a seven nothing ball game. Great. Fa fantastic. And also, didn’t we hear coming into this series that they don’t hit many home runs? The Jays are 10th in home runs. Yeah, they’ve been crushing balls. They had homers yesterday. They’ve had a couple homers today. The Jays have not. Vlad looks, I don’t know, all out of sorts. Springer had a rough day today. 0 for four. The runs scored. He didn’t look great. Addison Barger piece a couple balls up. I liked what I saw from him. One for three in this one. And they got pitched hit for Ernie Clement. It was a line drive. Nice catch by Ch. Was it Churio in center? I think it was. Uh, but Vlatty 0 for three with an RBI. Sure, fine. I mean, a sack fly, good for him. Bob Bashette one for four. I mean, whatever. That was in the ninth inning when you were down 4-1. Whatever. Uh, Ty, look, the bottom of your lineup did the job. That’s that that’s the problem with today. You had seven hits. Ty France went two for three and Miles Straw went three for three. Five of your seven hits were Ty France and Miles Straw. That cannot happen if you’re trying to win games. You had seven hits today. Struck out eight times. You didn’t walk a single time. You sucked. The offense blew. As much as Ke as much as Jeff Hoffman stinks, your offense sucked. And Kevin Gosman probably one of his best outings of the season today. Obviously being at the ball game. I get to see all the stats on each pitch. You know, the velocity was up, the splitter was playing. Seven innings, four hits, one run, struck out eight guys, didn’t walk anybody. He was outstanding today. the first inning other than a couple hard hit balls. Great catch and setter by Miles Truss. Unfortunately, we’re not talking about that as much uh because of how this game ended, but he made an insane catch and a couple hard hit balls early on, but got settled in and he was lights out the rest of the ball game. He was fantastic. So, Anthony Dominguez, who honest to God is, and I will say this, he allowed a couple singles, got a ground ball of a play, had a clean inning. Good for him. I don’t care that he’s a guy that throws balls and, you know, he lose location. I don’t care, man. He doesn’t give up bombs because let me go through this again with you guys because look, home runs are so are one thing. Walks, singles, you know, doubles. If you have to allow three hits to score a run, fine, so be it. But one swing of the bat, those just can’t happen. Let me go through the bullpen for you guys. The guys that mean something, right? So Anthony Dominguez has thrown about the same innings as Jeff Hoffman this year, right? They think he’s thrown three less innings, right? 51 and two/3s going or 52 and a third going into play today. So 53 in the third after today’s about three innings behind Jeff Hoffman. He’s allowed four home runs to Jeff Hoffman’s 14. Okay. Yes, the walks are up. He has 31 walks. Jeff Hoffman’s only got like 18 or 19. Fine. The punch outs about the same. They’re very similar. Okay. Also, Dominguez has done it in the big moments. There’s that as well. All right. Let’s keep going here. Uh Brendan Little, the human roller coaster ride. You know, 81 puts in 51 innings. 58 innings. We obviously he’s pitched more than Jeff Hoffman. Two home runs allowed. Okay. Uh let’s keep going here. I’m not going to do I do Tommy Nance. Yeah, screw it. 21 innings. Hasn’t allowed a homer. There’s that. Uh Yariel Rodriguez, we all talk about the location not being great from him. He’s thrown more than Jeff Hoffman. 62 and a third going into play today. He did. I think he got one guy out today. Uh he’s allowed seven. So, there’s that. Uh well, let’s keep going. Louis Varand, as bad as he’s been with the Blue Jays so far this year, he’s pitched much more than Jeff Hoffman, has allowed five home runs. Okay? And I’m going to give you another crazy example. So, the White Socks, they’re no good, right? Of course not. The guy pitching for them today, Shane Smith, now he’s been okay, right near a 387, a whip of 123. He’s pitched a lot for them. You know how many home runs he’s allowed in 114 innings? One less than Jeff Hoffman. Jeff Hoffman has pitched half the innings of this guy and the White Socks and he’s allowed double more home runs and this guy is closing games in a freaking pennent race. It’s It’s sad. It cannot continue. It just can’t. You can only say, “I have faith in our guy. I have faith in our guy for so long till you feel like, okay, we got to adjust this role and get him figured out because look, the stuff is there. He throws 97 98. He’s got a nasty splitter. The slider has tons of movement. Great. But if you can’t, as John Snder said in his post game, there are strikethrowers, a guy who throws a bunch of strikes, but there’s a guy who locates properly, and that is the issue for Jeff Hoffman this season. That is the the plain and simple, that has been the issue for him this year. The location has been awful. Now, let me do a quick thing for you guys. I know everyone just wants to talk about Jeff Hoffman, so we’ll stay on that subject. Last year with the Phillies, uh, you know, obviously an all-star season for him, 66 innings. How many home runs did he allow? Six. Okay, we keep going. The year before he threw 52 and the third innings. Uh, three home runs. Uh, the year before that when he was in Cincinnati, 44 innings pitched, five home runs. Home runs have not been an issue in his career. They they got to figure this out because when he’s on, he is so good. We have seen it, but we have also seen so much recently the long ball just just getting peppered. And today it just felt like the final straw. He didn’t even get out of that inning. They had to. They just yanked him out. A mercy pulling of Jeff Hoffman. Now you got lucky on the out of 10 scoreboard. Pirates beat the Red Sox 10-3. The God the Pirates beat the Red Sox in their in at Fenway twice. Odo and Paul Skins uh won those two games for them. So that’s pretty crazy stuff. Those two guys beat the Blue Jays and the Red Sox just lost the series. Now the Yankees play the piss poor White Sox tonight. So, the Jays still stay three uh three and a half up on the Red Sox, and you just hope and pray that the White Sox can win a ball game. That guy Shane Smith I was talking about earlier, yeah, he’s the one going for the uh the White Socks today against Cam Schlitler. So, we’ll see how that one goes. Meanwhile, the Blue Jays keep pissing down their leg. And tomorrow, guess what? Brandon Woodruff gets the ball for them. Yeah, he’s outstanding. Max Sher gets the ball for the Blue Jays. I don’t know, Max. All I can say is give the boys a chance. That’s all I got for you. Offense, wake up. Score a couple runs early. Give your team the lead, Max. Throw a couple zeros up early and get comfortable in the game like Gossman did today. And guess what, Jace fans? You think you’re going, “Oh, thank God. We get rid of the Brewers. We’re okay. You got to play the the Reds. They’re only a game over 500. They’ve been struggling recently.” You got to face Hunter Green next. 77 innings in a year of 281, a whip under one. 94 punch outs in 77 innings. Yeah, he’s great. Next game too, you got Liddelloo or Lolo. Yeah, in the area of 322. He’s very good. So, guess what? It doesn’t get any easier. You got to figure it out and fast because this division race is the Yankees after today could be only two games back of the Blue Jays. Two. Now, as we’ve learned, the Yankees love to be at the tomato can teams and and piss down their leg against good teams. They go to play Houston after this White Sox series. So, we’ll see what happens after that. But for if you’re the Blue Jays, you got to do your own job. You’re 20 games above 500. You’re five and five in your last 10. You’re about a 500 team over the last month. You got to find a stretch where you play well. And if anything, it it’s got to start now. It absolutely has to start now. Vlad, I know hamstring. I don’t know how he’s feeling all this. Wake up. Wake up. I think he’s only got one hit since he’s come back and it was that two-run single to the opposite field. Am I correct with that? Yes. since he’s been back. It’s one hit. It’s not good enough. I don’t care whe the sack flies. You’re number three hitter. You’re making $500 million. Do a job. Now, if you’re hurt, don’t freaking play because going 0 for four or 0 for three, 0 for four with a strike, it’s not going to help the guys. And the only positive thing I know is that with Anthony Santandere looming, you need that bat in the lineup. I don’t care. Okay, this offense needs some thump. It needs some punch. and they don’t have it right now. Got to wake up and be better tomorrow. It’s all I got to say. All right. I I didn’t rip through the pitching stats. Yo Rodriguez, yeah, face one guy struck him out. So, good on him for that. Um, it’s all I got for you. All right. You know guys, that’s going to do it for this one. 1. How do you know when you are no longer a closer? I know. When in your last three innings you have allowed 4 home runs.
Actually your manager should have made it clear after the third dinger. I remember when I would get upset when he walked
the leadoff hitter. Those were the good old days.

  2. Is Barger showing that as a new player he doesn't have the stamina to play good into September? Clement is pinch hitting for Barger, that's crazy! We need a guy who can step up when we need a hit, we don't have that. Yankees are doing good when it's important, Jays need to do the same.

  3. Bullpen by committee might be the answer. Have to remind myself that we're playing the best team in baseball and they're TOUGH. Hopefully manage a win tomorrow and go from there.

  4. Move Tye France and Myles Straw up to 3rd and 4th batters in the line-up. Move Guerrerro down to 7th. Move Bichette up to 2nd batter. It is the lower half that is producing. Gausman deserved the win. Best I saw him pitch all year! 3rd base coach shud be fired. He held Barger up at 3rd base when he could have scored. If he wud have scored….sure we lost an out in the process, but on Guerrerro's fly ball it would have meant 2 runs for the jays instead of 1 run. Hoffman needs to be sent to the minors. Guys are now just sitting on his pitches and knocking them out of the yard. He is the Jays week link. Bring back fluarty. Fluarty is good. Better than Hoffman. He struck out Ohtani when the Jays were in LA. The way they are playing now…they could lose 6 out of the next 7 and fall out of first place and maybe miss the playoffs. I am not so confident right now in them even making the playoffs.

  5. What is crazy is that the Brewers usually small ball you to death. And now HR. They just found it to win one. One game at a time.
    The power of friendship.

  6. Hey buddy, I would not give your team too much grief. After all, it's not like they're playing the Rockies. They're up against the best team in the league. Milwaukee is 🔥!
