Jackson Chourio was difference – Pat Murphy speaks on MLB-best Brewers win over Blue Jays 4-1

It’s robbed in that first pitch, first at bat, and for him to come back and then do what he did. Yeah, it’s it’s an amazing day. You know, it uh makes you realize, you know, you know, what kind of talent the kid has, you know, like I said, you know, like everybody was so worried about 14 out of 18 strikeouts and and uh you know, Whitney Houston showed up today. It was a big event, you know, so they usually sing better when it’s on the line. This kid knows about this level and he knows about excelling at this level and he knows it’s not easy, but evaluating him based on his trip AA at bats wouldn’t be smart as we’ve witnessed today. Hoffman’s been a good pitcher for a while to see Jackson and then Christian go back to back on consecutive. I mean any any pitcher in this game, any hitter in this game, you know, the game humbles you. So there’s days you’re going to take four punch outs. There’s days you’re going to hit balls hard, you know, and come up empty. This the game is what the game is. But yeah, I’m just thankful that our guys, you know, stayed with it and play like they do. And Yelli’s as great as Jack Jack was today. And he was sensational. Um, you know, he made a great catch, too, in center field. And um, but Yelli still got the big double, got him, you know, got him over. William got him over. S got him in in typical fashion and uh you know that’s our team you know we got back in the game and then you know put the pressure on them you know and um the they’re the home team and it just it worked out and proud of our you know proud of our guys what you think about the six innings from Prester today. Yeah, very good. Very good. Prester was very very good. You know he shouldn’t give up anything. the one we didn’t turn the double play there and the guy got to second and that ended up hurting us but he was he was very very good very good conversely Gossman was terrific too that was a real pitcher duel for the first six Gossman’s got a big history you know what I mean he’s got a big history he’s he’s outstanding a split is really really good heater’s good he’s a great pitcher what do you guys 21 wins in August for you guys. That’s the only the third time a Brewers team has done that to do that. Is that right? Yeah. And and you did almost all that without Jackson. What does that what does that say about what this team’s about how the way they’re playing right now? Yeah. We’re playing together, you know. Um we’re learning each other, you know. We’re still learning, you know, what we can and can’t do. And um we’ve got a revolving door with all the injuries we’ve had all year. And somebody else stepped up. Now, we’ve done this without Ortiz, too. you know, uh, Joey hasn’t played and, um, yeah, it’s just, you know, it’s great. It’s great to see 16 straight appearances, starts in appearances out of the bullpen in which Quinn Prester has uh, strung together here right now. Doesn’t get the decision here, but another team win again. 16 straight. Kevin Gosman pitched a gem as well. Seven innings for him. Just gave up the earned run, but Prester, not even an earned run in this one. uh just one across, but it was an unearned run. And uh Quinn Prester had a lot going. That sinker really established things early in the game, Tim. Yeah, Brewers just so glad they called that guy. They got him and they can do nothing but win here. Last 16 in a row, the guy just steps on the bump. Great job. And today, he’s following Freddy Peralta, who went six strong yesterday. No runs for him. And Priest was sharp. Just one strikeout uh through the first four innings. He did have some PFPs. you know, he benefited from defense. Why? Because he was throwing pitches and guys were putting the ball in play uh very weakly. He only threw 82 pitches. He gave up the five hits. Only one extra base hit, four ground ball base hits, two didn’t even leave the infield. So, it was it was a bunch of tumble weeds kind of rolling around the infield is what it was. And the defense stepped up. I know the the errand throw the the E throw for Terra, that’s a rare thing, but he went back at it and got the out. Got out of the inning. So, six strong innings for him and he could have gone back out. If it was four to one, if it was five to one, I think he goes back out. I still think that Quinn Pester can throw a complete game sometime in September. And I thought he was going to go back out just to maybe uh help the bullpen in that way, but the bullpen was sharp. They stepped up. And I mean, after Quinn Preer throws so much contact, he sets the tone uh for the bullpen. And let’s take a look at these guys. Jared Kanig, who’s been so good, 62 games, tied 11th in Major League Baseball. He seen a ton of him. Nick Mir is still riding high with that careerhigh in appearances. And how about Ashby? Bounced back from yesterday. Gave up three runs, couple hits, uh walk, hit by pitch, and then of course little Abner double play comes in, gets a strike out, a hit, and then uh ends it on a double play. I mean, this was lights out, especially with a couple of injuries that they have in the bullpen for other guys to step up, continually step up when the bullpen, it’s been uh it’s been a tough go of it. kind of a tortured bullpen department lately. Well, I mean, this is really the first game that they felt no Trevor McIll now, and this is going to go for a good two weeks because he’s on the 15-day IIL. This is really the first day we’re like, how are they going to completely patch this up and you saw a really good version of that, especially uh what Ashb was able to do when he came in to get that final out in the eighth inning. [Music] Well, I asked Jackson, he got robbed his first at bat, but he won with that last at bat there, the home run, just how he feels to be back here with the team. And he said, “Yeah, overall, I feel great.” He said to to be honest, I feel really special, really grateful, happy to be back here with the team. And he said it was really a great day for everyone to be able to get the win here today. Jacksonville. [Music] I asked him just what was the difference today. He didn’t have great at bats down in Nashville on his rehab assignment. Just what he felt the difference was was here today. And he said really just his mentality. He said he came up here. He wanted to come up and do his part. He wanted to help the team win. So he feels good about how he was able to do that here today. E Jackson pitch this home run. [Applause] I asked Jackson just his reaction to see Christian Yelich hit another home run the next pitch after Jackson Cheerios and he said yeah super happy for him he said he’s just such a tremendous person a tremendous teammate great player obviously he said it’s just a great player to follow and and a great player for him to be hitting here after Jackson Victoria [Music] [Music] I asked Jackson how he feels. 85 wins now for the team, 21 here in the month of August. And he said, “Yeah, it’s been incredible. The team’s playing great right now.” Obviously, he wasn’t here for a lot of the month, but he says, “I feel good to be back here. We’ve got great chemistry. We’re playing really well together as a team.” So, Jackson, is great to have you back. Gracias. Gracias. It shakes them.
