Damn near got Buxton and himself hurt here

  1. sad to say but: he does it a lot, it’s a disaster waiting to happen, and the coaches/coaching allowing it to continue just seems negligent.

  2. Maybe to get extra height on high throws? It’s really not worth it though, it’s a recipe for him and the runner to get hurt. Maybe play the better 6’2” guy there instead 🤷🏻‍♂️

  3. My best guess is so that if he stretches out, his foot stays on the edge when it slides forward with him

He’s also just not awesome defensively so it could just be poor technique

  4. Yeah, I think it’s that he’s far from a fundamentally sound defensive 1B.

  5. He’s a DH, he’s short, no slug. Won’t be missed. What ever money he sign for good for him, but it’s an over pay if he isn’t hitting .330.

  6. When we don’t have Arraez next year this sub is gonna realize just how important he is to the team

  7. It’s always been that way with him. He doesn’t have great 1B mechanics yet I give him credit for doing an okay job in a slot he has no business playing.

That said, he’s flirting w season ending injury every time he does that.

  8. It’s one thing to not be a good first baseman; it’s quite another for a team with all their coaching staff to allow this shit to go on. Someone needs to correct him before ankles get broken.

  9. Bc he doesn’t know wtf he’s doing. I’ve been complaining about this since game 1

  10. I think it’s cuz he’s short and he uses it for another few inches to reach a high throw.

  11. He’s doing it intentionally to get taken out of the lineup and to shake up his spot without controversy

  12. Yes that is odd and could lead to injury for him and/or the runner. Little leaguers learn not to do that. Not sure why a coach hasnt noticed and taught him not to do that. (Or maybe they have and he ignores them)

  13. Because he doesn’t know how to play first base

    1. He’s short and this shortens his range more

    2. He’s going to get hurt – again

Unless he needs to step on the base to reach the high throws

  14. There is zero reason for him to be fielding ive been saying this for awhile especially after we ttased for a natural 1b all-star thats 6″2 to his 5″10

  15. Poor technique. It’s a disaster waiting to happen, and when a guy spikes him I’m not gonna fully blame the batter.

  16. He’s just a bad first baseman. Like Hosmer with his stepping back in front of the running lane for high throws. Just bad fundamentals.

  17. Probably the same reason he watches pitches right down the middle and chases pitches out of the zone for a weak pop up.
