Justin Verlander Throws 121 Pitches, Strikes Out 10 vs. Orioles | San Francisco Giants Highlights

On the hill today for the Giants will be the veteran Justin Verlander. Verlander, 65, 240 pounder. He’s 42 years of age in his 20th year at the big league level. And this is what the former three-time Sai Young award winner has done this year. Rener goes swinging him in. Bailey’s throw and it’s not in time. Strike out. Stolen base. There they go. And that was in there. Kball struck him out. looking 02 pitch swing and a miss. He struck him out with a low slider. That was beautifully thrown. That’s three strikeouts already for Burl. He went around. Got him. Got him. [Applause] Got him. The veteran gets the kid. Strikeout number seven. And of the seven strikeouts for Verlander, five have been swinging and miss. One, two. Curveball struck him out swinging. Not this time. Vasquez and Berliner shaking his head as he strike. [Applause] [Applause] Got him. And he strikes out 10. He is walking off the mound with a standing ovation. You talk about guts on the mound, you’re looking at it. [Music] [Music] 3. [Music] Hey, hey, hey. [Music]

  1. See this is what happens when you provide run support. This version of Verlander has been around all year. Some poor starts but most of them able to go 5 innings. Over a 162 game season, if Verlander can give you 120-130 innings then that's a win. A 43 y/o Verlander should be viewed as a #5 in the rotation however.

Giants need to add to the rotation in the offseason. Suarez or Valdez, pick one (or both).

  2. 121 pitches in this day and age??? Vintage Verlander 😌
Like seriously vintage, pitchers haven’t thrown that many since the early the early days

  3. Obviously a great start, and a gutsy performance to finish that 5th inning despite going over 120 pitches. You could see, though, that he was still a little upset with himself that he was only able to go 5 innings on that many pitches – that's the mindset of an elite competitor.
