PADRES POSTCAST: Fernando TATIS JR. LEAVES HURT, San Diego PADRES DROP FINALE 7-2 @ Minnesota Twins
This is the Padres’s Post Cast, your instant game reaction for the San Diego Padres’s, part of the Locked on Podcast Network, your team every day. What is up, Padre fan? Welcome to your Padre postcast on the Lockdown Podcast Network. your team every day. My name is Jim Grease Hobo. Call me Greece. Busy day today. Football. All kinds of stuff going on on the network. And man oh man, the San Diego Padres’s stumbling out of Minnesota. 72 the final. They lose today. They could not figure anything out about Joe Ryan. And this is one of those games where they just uh you know, it just didn’t happen for San Diego tonight. No doubt about it. It was a rough one from the beginning. And the Padres’s you know they just a lot of injuries going on this year offensively. Merrill’s out again. Bogarts is out. Just kind of throwing lineups together sometimes. And really, you know, even though you have the same amount of hits, you’re just not pushing the runs across. And the starting pitching has been dreadful. Today, they did a bullpen day obviously with King still out. And starting pitching has been dreadful for the Padres’s lately. Still, they’re only two games behind the Dodgers who got a walk-off from Will Smith. Home run to beat the Diamondbacks today. They lost two out of three in that series. But man, the Padres’s just unable to get it done. unable to really mount any serious threats at all today against Joe Ryan who got back to his all-star form after a couple of not so great starts for Minnesota and you had to kind of hope like going into this that the Padres’s would win two out of three in Minnesota but no you’re coming home limping a little bit favorable schedule Orioles you know coming up here and then of course you have the White Socks this month you have the Rockies a couple times this month so favorable schedule lot of things working your way if you’re the Padres’s and you just kind of have to hope that you can come back out after the seven scoreless those innings that Ryan hung on you today that you and and you didn’t get much into their bullpen which you really needed to do coming into this series. You won that game yesterday though and you you know obviously lose the series but you won one out of three in Minnesota. All right, this is your Padres’s postcast Jim Greer call me Greece long day. It really is amazing you know and uh incredible how you’re talking about you know having everybody ready for the postseason and thinking about that you know what I mean? It’s uh yeah, you want to help have Jackson Merrill be healthy for the postseason and you want to have uh Bogarts, too. That that one concerns me. Fouling that off his foot, breaking his foot like that. The timing, the weight transfer in the in the box when you’re hitting. He had really come and started to hit a lot better, too. All right, Jim Grease Hopper, Call Me Grease. It’s your Padres’s Post Lockdown Podcast Network. Your team every day, and we are just getting going. So, what do you say we kick this thing into high gear? Let’s roll. This is what you’ll be talking about. All right, so here we have it. Byron Buckton, not going to be sad to see him go, well, to leave Minnesota and not have to face him anymore. 29th home run he hit today. He has four in his last four games. Been killing the Padres’s all weekend. Joe Ryan, seven scoreless innings, 7-2 the final. Royce Lewis and Buckston each had two hits for the Twins, two out of three in the series. And of course, the Padres’s two games behind the Dodgers. Now, Joe Ryan, I mean, he was great. 13 and seven now, five hits, struck out eight, 104 pitches, bouncing back from a couple of rough outings, as I said, 11 earned runs in nine innings over his last couple. But, you know, I mean, two and five in their last seven games are the Padres’s. It’s really been the starting pitching. More on that in a minute. But, Freddy Fine, Bryce Johnson, RBI singles in the ninth. They threatened earlier in the game and it it really um you know, it was the fourth inning. They had runners on first and second. Nobody out against Ryan. You know, against these aces, you might only get one shot in a game. You only get one shot. Do not miss your chance. You know what I’m saying? So, he strikes out Lauriano and Sheets. And Croninorth flies out. So, Sheets, by the way, two for four today. Seven for 11 in the series. All right, Gavin Sheets. And uh look, the Padres’s have won five straight series at home. They’re heading home now. Got Dylan Cease on the mound for the opener. But man, man, man, man, man, three-run fifth for the Twins. Keshaw and Lewis. Luke Keshaw, you know, James Outman had an RBI single in the game. And look, Kyle Hart pitched today. David Morgan started the game, bullpen game. Kyle Hart was called up. He pitched. So, you know, it was rough because, you know, he was in the rotation to start the season. So, you know, all about a heart attack. You’re giving me a heart attack. You know what I’m saying? He he hits Luke Keshaw with a pitch to start the fourth, scored in a single by James Alman. And so, three runs in an inning and a third permitted by Hart. And just, you know, not a good game at all for the Padres’s by any stretch of the imagination today. They couldn’t get the big hits when they needed them. They could not get and it scattered the five hits Ryan did. Right. Whenever you don’t put a rally together or any rallies together, they’ll say scattered five hits. And that’s kind of like what’s been going on lately with the Padres’s offense. Although it’s been getting better and the injuries haven’t helped lately and the starting pitching certainly hasn’t given them anything. But Mason Miller’s been electric. He got a chance to throw a little bit today, but the bullpen really didn’t get much of a chance to do much over the weekend in Minnesota. that lethal bullpen, the five horsemen now really just um relegated to not much. Even in the game they won, you know, the bullpen was kind of not much of a weapon this weekend for the Padres’s. And that’s a tough one. So, what can you do? You know, you have your games like this, you head home, lick your wounds a little bit, and hopefully you can, you know, get it back going in the right direction. You know, I really appreciate Thank you, Padres’s. I appreciate you. Long day, man. um tried to squeeze this one in a little bit earlier, but the football stuff was was long this weekend for us here on the network. But look, we’re always going to get it in. We’re always going to get it done for you because you know, you got the the YouTube show right after the game and then after that show, we upload you download Spotify, Apple, iHeart, Citra, Podbean, and then Roku. So, the show will be up and everybody will get a chance to upload, I mean, so download it rather and uh listen to it as well as watch it. So, I don’t know when Jav is going to put up this next episode of Lockdown Padres’s podcast. So, here we go. All right, Jim Greo, call me Greece. It was an ugly game, but even ugly games have these. Time to reveal where the game was won or lost. It’s the turning point. What do you think, guys? I mean, easy when you could say like what when the Twins scored all or six of their seven runs in the third, fourth, and fifth innings combined. I’m not going to say that. I’m going to say it’s the fourth for the Padres’s because it’s two nothing Twins and they had just scored two in the bottom of the third, right? Heart attack, you know, the whole deal. But you have that bullpen, that incredible bullpen. And then you see Peralta and Matsui. And maybe if they get something going in the fourth, first and second, nobody out, Lauraniano strikes out in that spot. You know what I mean? It um maybe in that situation, if you get something going and you get a rally going, that’ll change the game. So, I’m going to go ahead and call the turning point when they had first and second, nobody out in the fourth. Lauraniano and Sheets strike out. Croninorth flies out and that’s your chance to get Ryan. And you don’t get him. You never get him. So, I I think that’s definitely the turning point. You had a shot to get him and you did not do it. So, there you have it. And that’s what it is. Hey Jim, let’s go Dodgers. They’re two up. You know what I’m saying? They’re two up. And we’ll see. We shall see. But I have a feeling these teams will be seeing each other down the line with a lot more on the line than what we’ve seen so far except for last year obviously. And the Padres’s, don’t forget they had a 2-1 lead on the Dodgers in the playoffs last year. And that was the only team that did to my recollection. You know what I’m saying? Jim Grease Hopper, call me Greece. It’s your Padres’s Post Cast Lockdown Podcast Network. Your team every day 72 the final. They lose in Minnesota. They lose two out of three in the series. They lost they’ve lost five out of seven overall. So there you have it. you know, and we got a lot to do still on the show in a real short time to do it in. You download Apple, iHeart, Stitcher, Podbean, Spotify, you name it. And then of course Roku. You download OTT. Yeah, you know me. And Padre says Shield’s decisions are honestly irritating. Either it’s choosing someone out of the bullpen without looking at analytics or even making the lineup with a blindfold on. I’ve been talking about this every day. Padres’s um he he can only mess things up. Prell did a ymanlike job like executive of the year. Who did better at the deadline? who made better moves than bringing in Lauraniano and O’Harn and Miller and Ferine. Are you kidding me? He Oh my god, what a job AJ Prowler has done, right? And then you look at what the players have been through, the injuries and all those things. Dylan Cece has had a terrible year. King’s been hurt. That might save Schult. But if they if they fan out and and they blow up in the playoffs and they don’t make it to the World Series this year or they don’t at least push the Dodgers real deep, I don’t know. I don’t know what Schult would have to do to save his job or if his job would even be on the line, but all he can do is mess this up. It’s It’s not an enviable position, but it’s true. And Raul says, “Even though I’m a Dodger fan, always fun watching your commentary reaction to Padres’s game. Def one of the best locked on podcast host.” Thank you so much, Raul. I appreciate that. And I hope the uh the powers that be at the network see that as well as we roll on with your Padres’s postcast. And one thing we do have to mention here on the show and look, the Padres’s just shut down tonight by Ryan and the Twins and Buckton homerred again. And you know how that is and it just it is what it is actually. You just not much you’re going to do about that. Sometimes these things happen and you got to just take it and say, “Hey, we finished August in Minnesota. We’re limping home. Just a bad bad ending to the month in the series. You lose 72. two in the third, four, one in the fourth, and um three in the fifth, one in the seventh for Minnesota, two in the ninth for the Padres’s. Eight hits a piece, one error for Minnesota. And again, it just was, you know, Morgan, two innings. He did great. Morgan to start the game, two scoreless innings. And then Kyle Hart inning in a third. Just get him out of here. Don’t bring him back. I don’t ever want to see Kyle Hart in a Padres’s uniform again. This guy here keeps running him out there. Get him out of here and don’t bring him back. I mean, seriously, don’t bring him back. He doesn’t belong in the big leagues. At least not on a team like this. Go pitch for the Rockies or the White Socks, Kyle Hart. Okay. Adios. We don’t want to see you again in the big leagues in San Diego. Twothirds of an inning for Estrada. And then Peralta, the wheels came off. Gave up three earned runs on three hits in an inning. Matsui and earn run on two hits in two innings. And yeah, the route was on. So offensively, nobody really did all that much. Gavin Sheets, two for four. And over the weekend, he was seven for 11. Yeah, you don’t want to play him every day. Put him in the lineup, do you? Shilt all those games and weeks in a row. You sat him on the bench next to you. This dude, you’re right. I mean, it just it’s too much for me. I’ll get on a Mike Schilt rant and this will be the whole entire show and that’s not what I’m here for. You have Javier Reyes with Lockdown Padres’s podcast day in and day out on all these same platforms free and the rising tide, the subs, everything, the mailbag, all those things are um are for both of us. So, got to love that as well. And one other thing I do want to mention about this game today, it was a wash. It was gone. It was late. It was garbage time. But somehow someway, Fernando Tatis Jr. is still out on the field coming in on a fly ball, grabbing his hamstring and left the game. So, if you don’t know that, sorry to kind of like add injury to insult. I don’t know what’s going to happen with Fernando. I haven’t seen any reports yet. So, keep it here for Lockdown Padres’s podcast with Jav tomorrow. So, you’ll learn more about Fernando Tatis Jr. And uh apparently like a hamstring like grabbed like right below that ass cheek right at the top of that hamstring on the right leg. Just right there after he raced in full speed for a fly ball that dropped in for a pop-up single which never happens in front of Fernando Tatis Jr. BT Dubs. So yeah, 72 the final score. And uh we got a couple of thing. Here’s Fernando. Just little little little visual for you here. Yeah, this is tough. You don’t you hope he’s not hurt. You hope he’s not hurt cuz Merryill’s already out. Bogart’s already out. Fernando has not had that slashing month yet. He’s still at the right around 260. Still ridiculous. Scoring a ton of runs, havoc on the base pass, great defensively, you know, making great catches. His arm hasn’t been phenomenal this year, but I mean, it’s still got that cannon for an arm, but, you know, been a little offline with some of his throws and just hasn’t been slashing. So, anyway, that’s Fernando Tatis Jr., But two out of three they lose and they’re heading home to play the Orioles tomorrow. Which brings me to you had the turning point of the game and now we have this. This is the locked on player of the game. Dare I say it was David Morgan who pitched two scoreless innings with two strikeouts and no hits to start the game and then left the game. I mean, he legitimately did one hit. Sorry, two strikeouts, two innings for David Morgan. 29 pitches. So, that started the right way, but it was all downhill from there. And then Mason Miller with an inning and he’s been unbelievable. I mean, just check out his his comps and his stats and his splits lately. He’s been unbelievable. So, Morgan and Miller were both great and that’s about it. Gavin Sheets two for four, but he had the big strike out in the fourth. So, yeah, it’s got to be Morgan or Miller. The two of them are your star of the game. And if you’re going anywhere else, it’s Ryan and Buckton. So, you don’t really want to do that. So, the Padres’s and look at this audience. You know, I love it. We do the show real late today. The audience still coming strong. Really appreciate you guys with the loyalty. That’s why we keep it going no matter what. So we’re free on YouTube. Then we upload. You download Spotify, Apple, iHeart, Stitcher, Podbean, and then we go up on Roku as well. You download OTT, not OP at 53. I’ll tell you that. But the grays and the whites in the beard match the beautiful hat right from Game Day. And Game Day, proud sponsor of the network as well. Gave us this this glove. So much with the five-hour energy golf drink. So hey, we got the golf stuff going on as well. All right, Jim Greer, call me Greece. Don’t forget tomorrow the Padres’s start early. Okay, this is a Labor Day game. So, happy Labor Day all of you who um who are obviously celebrate Labor Day. We all do in America, but man oh man, you got the Padres’s and the Orioles, Dylan CE and Kyle Bradish. It’s Cece is 6 and 11 482 RA. He’s been terrible this year. wildly inconsistent, up and down within the same starts, striking out eight to 10 guys and still hanging like innings where they hang a four or a five spot on him. He’s been maddening this year. Dylan Cece in a contract year and a borass client on top of that. So there you have it. Dylan CE better step up right now because they need him in their two games out. That’s all I’m going to say about that. Jim Greer, call me Greece 72 the final. They lose two out of three. They’ve lost five out of seven. Hopefully Case can get back on track tomorrow in San Diego. 341st pitch will be here right after with your Padres’s postcast. Until then, San Diego and Padres’s fans everywhere. Keep your game tight and your mind right. Thank you for watching your Padres’s Postcast on the Lockdown Podcast Network. Your team every day. Call me Grease and I am out.
Joe Ryan shut the Padres out for 7 innings, Byron Buxton homered, and the Padres got beat down 7-2 by the Minnesota Twins to drop the series in Minneapolis and fall 2 games behind the LA Dodgers in the NL West heading into the final month of the season.
Buxton and Royce Lewis had 2 hits apiece for the Twins, while Ryan (13-7) allowed just 5 hits while striking out 8 Padres.
Freddy Fermin and Bryce Johnson each drove in a run in the 9th inning for the Padres, who only threatened Ryan once, putting runners on 1st and 2nd base with no outs in the 4th. But the All-Star righthander struck out Ramón Laureano and Gavin Sheets then got Jake Cronenworth to fly out to end the threat.
Buxton took Kyle Hart (3-3) deep for a 2-run shot- his 4th homer in 4 games- that gave the Twins a 2-0 lead in the 3rd inning.
Just called up from Triple-A El Paso earlier in the day, Hart gave up 3 runs in 1 1/3 innings of relief as the Pads went with a bullpen game started by David Morgan. Hart hit Luke Keaschall with a pitch to start the Minnesota 4th, and he scored on a single by James Outman. Keaschall and Lewis had RBI singles in a three-run fifth to make it 6-0.
Gavin Sheets went 2-4 in the game and 7-11 in the series for the Padres.
The Pads have dropped 5 of their last 7 games.
San Diego Superstar Outfielder Fernando Tatis Jr. left the game in the 8th inning after coming in on a fly ball and coming up lame grabbing his right hamstring.

"Jim Grieshaber call me Gries." How many times do you have say that annoying line in a 19 minute video? You said it at least a half dozen times in the first 10 minutes. I turned off the video after that. No need for such repetition when your name is prominently displayed across the screen throughout the video. Although you seem to put out good content, it is just unbearable to watch when I keep hearing that same old tired line every minute or two. Sorry but no sub here.
