[Athletic] Ha-Seong Kim reunites with Jurickson Profar…Braves have claimed Ha-Seong Kim from the Rays on waivers. Kim is owed ~$2M rest of the season and has a $16M player option for next season. Braves get to look at him for a month. Ready to come off IL with lower back inflammation.

  1. Would have been an interesting pickup if the Braves didn’t get him. Doubt Preller put a bid in, but with Xander out it’s possible.

  2. Just a nice reminder that Preller letting these two go was the smart move. I’ll root for both of them but it felt like we got the best of both of them

  3. Wow, the Rays really got burned on that comtract. Only got 84 ABs out of it and bad ones at that. Paid a lot of money for 0.1 WAR this year. Im guessing they were scared he’d pick up that player option and wanted no part of that.

  4. What could it be… if we didnt sign with Xander…if HSK didnt get injured with Arraez fouling and cancelled SB…if we claimed off HSK waivers from Rays… but as much as i wanted both Profar and HSK stay with the padres, its smart move by us not keeping them (Profar with long suspension & HSK series of injuries, pretty much out for most of the season)

    Stay healthy my Korean buddy

  5. Don’t u destined why TB would sign the guy knowing he’s hurt and eat his contract after not even 1 full season

  6. So how does that work? Braves now on the hook for the 16M even if they don’t keep him in the bigs next year? Where the Rays would have been if he hadn’t been claimed? I guess I’m just wondering if it’s the correct interpretation that the Braves are effectively putting up 18M on spec by claiming on waivers (same as if they had explicitly traded for him).

  7. The Padres lucked out with the release of these two. They are missed tho. But at the those prices and time off. We’d be screwed with them on the roster this season.

  8. Wow I missed that he was released. Agree with others that the contract next year was way too much to think about bringing him back, but I’m sad for HSK. I’ll check out some Braves games just to see the vibes above replacement numbers skyrocket.

  9. Kim will be one of those MLB journeymen that will see maybe another few teams before he’s done. There will always be teams that need a solid utility glove to fill some gaps for a season or so….this assuming he can stay healthy.

As for Profar, he’s a cheater. The fact that he got popped before even inking the Braves deal indicates he was cheating when here. Anything for the bag I guess yet that’s a really selfish thing to do to both your old and new team.
