Some more day baseball here at Nationals Park and another beautiful day in Southeast DC as the Nationals try and turn things around. They’ve dropped eight in a row. Just got swept by the Rays to start this home stand. Why not bounce back here today on a beautiful Labor Day in our nation’s capital. The Miami Marlins have made their way in. Start of a three-game series here this afternoon between the Nats and the Fish. So, there are the families for Alvarez and Stubs. And the first pitch in the big leagues for the left-hander, Andrew Alvarez. He gets the ball. Fast ball for strike one. Yeah, he’ll cut it in half. Half to the pitcher, half chopper right in front of the plate. Edwards can fly. Stubs pops out. Throws on the run. And nicely done there by the catcher in his first big league chance. Some fair tapper over to third. Brady House will whip it across and the bag held by Chaparo for the second out. The two- two from Alvarez. Get out to left. James Wood cruising to it. Three up, three down for Andrew Alvarez to start his major league debut. Family loving it in attendance on this special day in DC. Andress Chaparo playing first base. Third base side of the rubber. Ground ball. Ground ball. Ground ball. Going to get more of those today from the left-hander. Gets out of popped up right side. Lyall got a little bit of a late break, but gets there in plenty of time for the second out. Way bigger target than Garrett. Ground ball right back up the middle. Garcia will tag the base runner eventually. And we’re done with the top of the second. Wild hits one well out to left center. Chasing after it hill into the gap. It’s off his glove and off the wall. Garcia running looking out to left field. Now he’s going to get waved home by Ricky Gutierrez and Dalon Ly into third easily with an RBI triple. It’s one- nothing Mets. Got a baby. Here we go. This should do it. Out to right center. And it’ll play for the right fielder Wymer coming in to score as Dalon Lyle and Andres Chaparo makes it two nothing. Hassel down on a heater and there’s two away. He’ll be out there early tomorrow working on it. So Ber bounces back, gets a couple strikeouts to end the second, but the Nats played two and an early lead here at Nats Park today. and pops one up left side. Brady House right by the third base bag. There you go. First big league strikeout for Andrew Alvarez. Family loves it. Freshman and sophomore campaigns. Andress Japaro will give chase into foul territory. And a nice adjustment. Fighting the sun. Fighting the wind. Pops this one up right side. Back is Wagaman. And he has it for the first out. So then you sit on it and he blows the fast ball right by you. Hooked on the ground right side. That’s a long run over there and a nice play made by Senoha and Buster Posey working together. There’s another strike out for Alvarez. Gets one of the hottest hitters in baseball right now. In there with the breaking ball. Backto back strikeouts for Alvarez here in the fourth. And now fires home a 2-2 to Norby who sends it out to right. Right to Dalon Ly. Andrew Alvarez. That was more spin from Gibson who has the first out. Bottom four. Dan Ly swinging first pitch as well. Send one to shallow left. And it is Mesa with a slide to make the play. This is Andres Chaparo with a man on and two outs. And there goes Louie in standing up. And Ramirez didn’t even think about it. Line drive out to right center over is Wemer to make a running catch. Chop left side. House will charge. Throw on the run. Chaparo picks it. Chopper to short. Abrams has to sit back on it to Garcia for one. He will not fire off a throw. I don’t think he had a grip. They off pitch now. Foul tip is called. I was about to say and that’s a call. That’s a third strike on Wever. Yeah, he chucked his bat. He tried to sell it, but Brennan Miller wasn’t buying and Andrew Grounder over to third. Working around it is Norby. Out to left center the junior coming in and theats go in order in the fifth. Here comes another 3-2. Got him. That slider is filthy. Yeah. Got him. He went. Great job. RZY down on strikes for the second time today and backto-back strikeouts for Beater. That’s the added bonus but not walking guys forcing the weak contact like that. Gayen Lyle having a hustle as the wind took it towards the line and another one. 99 at the belt and Wood down on strikes for the second time today. You just pretend they don’t exist. Yeah, that every time. Abs launches one to right. That’ll move Weame back just short of the track. plays it. Bell a sound out to left. Seven. Got him. Slider down and away from Pilington. [Music] First pitch, bottom seven, grounded over to first and Luis Garcia Jr. retired on a nice play. Carter goes from first. Dylan Lyle will steal second without a throw as Ramirez couldn’t handle it. Cover that. Instead, he’s going to roast one to left. Come on. That didn’t carry. Wind coming down half street and the play made by Mesa Jr. And he’s down on strikes. So Soraniano gets two outs. Keeps it a two-run game. Still six. Grounded over to third. Brady House plays it on the back hand. Easily retires for the first out in the eighth. Missed his location, but it’s right at Dylan Cruz. Not yanking it. Soft contact and playable on the left side. Brady House drifting with it and Cole Henry. Yet another outfield change for the Marlins today. Troy Johnston will take over in right after pinch hitting last half inning. Brady House will be retired on one pitch. Leading off the pulls one over to third. Norby handled a little bit of a tricky hop it looked like and throws out Stubs to win his Major League debut. Wood goes down on strikes. Weak ground ball over to second for Luis Garcia Jr. and there’s one down. Strike three. Ferrer sits down Norby. And there’s two outs in the ninth now. Arberto Hernandez. A line drive out to left right at James Wood and that will do it. The eightgame losing streak is over. Andrew Alvarez has his first big league victory.
