Condensed Game: Boston Red Sox vs Cleveland Guardians – September 1, 2025
This electric matchup is brought to you by the allect electric Chevy lineup. Together, let’s drive. And this Sunday at Fenway begins the final month of the regular season as the socks entertain the Cleveland Guardians. Alex Bregman’s team in firm control of a wild card position. The top three make it and Red Sox three and a half behind Toronto in the AL East. Great to have you with us today. I’m Dave O’Brien alongside Will Middlebrooks and also Jamai Webster in a couple of moments. the Red Sox beginning September at home. Then it’s on Arizona and Sacramento to play the A’s. But sizing up the September schedule, Red Sox in good shape. Yeah, Cleveland, Arizona, and the A’s, which you just mentioned, all teams that you need to beat up on, right? You have to stack wins against teams that are limping to the finish line here at the end of the season. The two obvious series I want to highlight here are the Yankees at Fenway and the three-game set versus Toronto at the end of the month. Both of those could be huge when it comes to not only gaining in the top wild card spot, but who knows, maybe even the division when the socks make that trip to Toronto. But it all starts today against a very mediocre Cleveland 10 and six RA 299. But you go back to June 15 from that point on it’s even lower than that 2.42 and he has been dynamite at home. Guardians lineup today. Steven Quan at the top. 270 with 10 home runs. Not a lot of power though. Jose Ramirez remains a great player. 26 home runs. He’s stolen 36 bases, but not a lot of pop in there. Bone Naylor doing the catching. Rochio doing the shortstop work today out of the nine spot. Here’s a look at the Red Sox defense brought to you by Bigalow T. Alex Bregman at third base. Trevor Story at short. Romy Gonzalez will be at second base today. Nathaniel Low gets a start against the lefty. He’ll be a first in the outfield left to right. Go Need Eden. Sadon Raphael and Roman Anthony. And doing the catching today is Connor Wong. Red Sox snapping a fivegame home losing skid yesterday with a 5-2 win over the Pirates. Socks have won eight times in the last 11 games. Uh-oh. Goodness gracious. a block and a run scores. Uh-oh is right. Red Sox take a one- nothing lead. I’ll tell you what, when the Red Sox are playing good baseball and this place starts to wake up. If you’re a young player, you’re on the mount at Fenway Park, you’re playing in a museum in front of this crowd. Weird things happen here. You see it so often late in seasons when this place is alive. So odd right there. His foot just slipped right on the rubber. And you could see that left foot on get on top of it, not in front. It cost him a run. It’s also a little embarrassing. Yeah, I’d say so. But that’s a good sign for this ball club because Romy can play second, he can play third, he can play first. Obviously, we’ve seen him bounce around and be versatile, but for him to be swinging it well against righties also, that’s great for this ball club. Line drive base hit right field. Another one is in. Bregman scores and a beat goes on for Romy. Two nothing Socks. And how often have we seen him just do that, right? We’ve seen him hit 456 ft homers to center, but we’ve also seen him do this a lot lately. And it’s what’s keeping him on off speed is being okay being beat by fast balls and okay just hitting it to right field. Just such a good inside out swing. You can’t go wrong with that approach. If he throws you a fast ball, fire it to right. If he hangs you off speed, you hit it on the lands. They lead at first, second, and third. Nobody out. And a 2-2 line drive and a base hit into right. That’ll chase in Naylor. Jones into third. Stop in there as the throw comes in. Four consecutive base runners against Bale. Then it’s two to one. I mean, no secret, right? This is all about command. It’s not just when it comes to walks. It comes to quality pitches. And you see this cutter right there that just spins and stays right there middle screaming, “Hit me.” Got to got to get to the edges. He just he doesn’t have that feel for those off speed pitches right now. Rochio climbs in. Short stop 2313 home run. Ground ball and that’s through for a base hit. Jones is in. Valera coming around. He will score and one of the most challenged offenses in all of baseball has rallied. They just put up three here against Bale. Yeah, look at the location. First pitch sinker, right? They’re going to be aggressive against you. The way you’re throwing the baseball right now and you’re missing over the middle of the plate. They’re going to go up there hacking, especially with the bases loaded. That’s fast ball right down the middle. Now you’re looking at a 3-2 game for Messi. His 55th pitch here and a base hit right field. Do it. Red Sox have tied it. Kawongi to score. 3-3 game. His 85th RBI. [Music] Look at that. That’s just good hitting right there, Obie. Right. Not up there trying to launch, not trying to hit one off the sick go sign cuz you’re in a 3-1 count. Recognizing how this guy likes to attack hitters in advantage counts. That’s a change up away. And the right side is just wide open. He’s going, “Why not just take my single and tie this ball game up?” Socks already have six hits. [Music] Base hit into right field. Ref Snider in to score. Eaton coming around. He will score. Sad on to third puts on the brakes. Narvay off the bench comes through. 53 Boston. Alex Coring the right button there. Bringing in Narvay. You could see the adjustment being made within that at bat. was super late on the fast ball from Sabrki and right there he just got super short to the ball with two strikes and just fires it right past the bag. That that’s a big couple runs here in the bottom of the fifth. Hamilton in to run for him. Boy, when he’s going to right got a lot of hits to right field a lot earlier in the year was 0 for three. So coming into that at bat as a pinch hitter. That was a big one. Trevor Story has a run scoring hit today. He is one for two of the walk. He’ll fly that one down the line. That one heading near the pesky pole. And that ball is Noel up against the wall and it’s going to be a foul ball. It hit his glove. He came up with the ball. Did he catch it or did he go off a fan? Story stopping at second. Oh, here we go. Oh, did that hit the glove or foul pole first? That’s what we got to see. Wow. I think Oh, it hit the glove first. Holy smokes. This was close to a homer. Then it’s close to a robbery. You see the contact there and then off of the fan. It comes out of the glove right there. Whoa. That’s a weird one. Finway special. So they’re going to get together. I That hit his glove in fair ground though. So that that that’s got to be a double. They’re getting together here. Trevor Story down to second. They announced a ground rule double. That’s the right call based off the replay. Take another look. Yeah, look where this makes contact with the glove. There’s the ball. Fair. Fair. Fair. Still fair. Off the glove. Off the pole. back in the glove off of a fan. And now Boston is challenging to call a foul ball. And now they’re saying foul ball. Well, this shouldn’t take long. That that’s pretty clear. So, it is interesting cuz the official score said double and on the field it looked like the first base umpire Thomas was ruling foul. So, there’s massive confusion on this. And now they’re taking a look at it. Yeah, when you slow it down, you see he he clearly makes contact with with it in fair ground. So this play under review. New York’s got it now. Let’s see what they come up with. Trevor’s story glued to second base. I tell you what, we do a lot of baseball games. I’ve seen a lot of baseball in my life and still there’s times you come to the park and there’s things you never seen before. I mean, this is a product of Fenway Park. So, here we go. I think we have an answer here. Let’s see if we get a good explanation. Well, not yet. The official score is not broken. After review, the call of the field is a home run. The ball hit the foul point. A home run. Trevor Story. Home run. And the crowd goes nuts. Number 23 for Story. You can see the coaching staff yelling into the phone to Mike Bridley like, “Let’s go. That’s on you. That’s on you.” That Red Sox home run brought to you by Audi. Visit your New England Audi dealer today. I got to see it again cuz I I I thought it I guess if it go it went off the glove and then hit the foul pole. I guess that’s the same thing as it going off of the defender over the fence. So contact glove. Yeah, clank glove foul pole. [Music] I’ve never seen that. Obby as it stands right now, Brian Bao’s going to get the win. Swinging a high drive deep right center way back toward the bullpen that is sailing and gone. Manardo with his 24th home run. So that’ll make this a two-run game. A solo shot in the eighth. We talked about his power from the beginning of this game and it’s not just Jos Ramirez that Sox has some punch in the middle of this lineup. Has a long ways out there even for a lefty. 418 ft over the bullpen. Bon Naylor with a double. He’s also lined out and drawn a walk. Little two hopper here to Hamilton for round number one. Back to the home run shot by Manardo. Mats has been good. He tries to get ahead with a breaking ball right there. Trying to go down and away obviously with this. He leaves it middle in elevated. That’s the one that hitters are looking for early in counts. In left Durant in. He’s got it. And the Red Sox win it six to four. They take game one here in September. Chapman now 46 straight batters without a hit. That’s 16 outings, no hits. We told you just one run over the last three months. He’s been automatic. That’s what the offense was today. Also having the back of Brian Beao. Didn’t have his best stuff. Still got the win in this one. The offense scored some runs when they needed to. Trevor Story, big home run down around Pesky Pole. A crazy one. We’ll be seeing replays of for a while. Well, the Red Sox also gain on Toronto because they lost. So suction now two and a half games out of
