Jaylen Warren LANDS extension, Cam Heyward update, Aaron Rodgers revenge game? | Steelers Rewind

What’s going on everybody? Welcome back to Steelers Rewind here on Penn Live. Welcome to week one. It is official. Football is nearly back. I will be in New York this week. The Steelers were down here today. Jaylen Warren, the new extension. You can tell it means a lot to a guy like that. He has really put in the work to earn that. If you don’t know Jaylen Warren’s journey, outside of just being undrafted, uh this is a guy that set the state record uh for rushing yards in a season in Utah in high school. He played in East Salt Lake. It’s not like he played, you know, in the middle of nowhere. Um he was in a very very big area and he kind of was a short, pudgy kid, grew into his frame. Um, you could tell the emotion for a guy that went Jo to then Utah State to then Oklahoma State to undrafted to making the team to earning a role and finally now getting this extension. It means a lot to them. It’s not super expensive. It’s three years, 17.5 million. It’s about 5.8 per year. So, it’s not like some grand extension, but it gives the Steelers some continuity. It means they probably don’t have to draft a running back next year, which I mean, checking off boxes next year for your team, I think, is always a good thing. If you can fill in the holes before you have to because you like the guys you have on the roster, go for it. I think Jaylen Warren is a worthy man to get an extension. So, good for him, man. Uh, you got to feel feel good for Jaylen Warren. That’s a guy to me that has really earned everything he has got. Um, and then you look at someone um, like him and you just say, man, like he is the type of player where if you can get him cheap, you should do it for um, he’s a hardworking player. He’s great in pass. It’s not easy to find great pass backs. Uh, so that that’s good for him. Also, today at practice, um, Cam Hayward was still out there today. We’ll see if that continues throughout the rest of the week. I honestly expected to. Um, but he is still out here. He is still practicing every day. So, contract dispute there still ongoing. Does it get solved? Certainly possible. We haven’t heard Cam speak since he said he could sit out week one. But he’s also been out here since August. I believe it was 19th. He’s been practicing out here. So, it’s not like this guy has been MIA the whole time. And the guy has been literally out here practicing for nearly the entire last two or 3 weeks. So, not not super concerned about Cam situation. Uh Nick Herbig’s one that’s going to be a little trickier. We’ll see how that one goes. Talked with Brick Jones today um said that Aaron Rogers, who was named a captain, Rogers, Hayward, Wat Kilibru, all your four captains is here. Uh hasn’t even like brought up this revenge game narrative. He’s taking it one game at a time. he doesn’t really care that he’s playing the Jets. Uh it seems like they’re not feeding into that narrative. Alex Highmith and some of the other guys said they’re pretty excited to face Justin Fields. They’re really cognizant of his legs. Uh that can be a big issue if you let him get out of the gate. So keeping rush lane integrity and kind of making sure that you keep him in the pocket going to be really important. But the Jets have a really nice tackle duo and Olaf Fashionu and Arman Meu. So we’ll see what those guys can do. Then also Brick Jones and Joey Porter Jr. in their respective matchups. Brick Jones really excited to face Will McDonald talks about him being explosive, bendy. He’s pretty hard to deal with. You know, McDonald’s a good player. And then you talk about Garrett Wilson who’s this really precise route runner who’s shifty and you got to be physical with him. And that’s what Joey said. You got to be physical with him.
