Pat Murphy sounds off after getting ejected as Milwaukee Brewers lose to Philadelphia Phillies 10-8

the lead off runners, the walks that that you guys were putting on in those last We didn’t have a good We didn’t have all in all the credit goes to the Phillies. They got a great offensive team and you know um you know they got some of the best players in the game on the team and um they did a great job of exploiting us by getting the leadoff guy on base and um yeah, I mean all the way around they they handled us, put up 10 runs. Uh that’s not very typical, but that’s that’s what happened. Um you can attribute to a lot of things, but you got to execute. You can’t give up free bases. Um but the credit goes to the Phillies for their relentless offense and uh they did what they had to do. But I’m proud of our team that we came back and lost the lead and then came back and yeah, that was that was good with show me. What was it that he was complaining about there on that he ran catch him upate on that? Yeah, he’s injured. Okay. He heard something or he felt something pop in his elbow and he’s injured. So, I had to come out of the game. But any we can’t diagnose that in like 100012. You you go to the doctor and you get an MRI and it’s kind of how it works. You don’t just look and go, “Oh, that’s a that’s a strain nest.” You know what I mean? You got to kind of go to a doctor. That’s the way I can do it. Taking today’s I think he did some good things. Um for four innings he was really good, but that’s with really good offense. You got to stay sharp. I think um when um you know, Ashby came in and got the job done. He was he was terrific. We’ve used him a lot, but he’s he was terrific. And um yeah, so all in all for four and a third, I thought Miz did a did a decent job. Does it feel similar to the other games running? No, I think he’s I think he’s moving in the right direction. I really do. Obviously, this has been a really long stretch. We’ve we’ve seen the pitching deviate a little bit, giving up some leads at the tail end of this. Do you think those two are It’s baseball, man. You watch 162 games, you’re going to have your your bullpen’s going to let you down sometimes. That’s just what happens. So, is it because of the long stretch? I’m certain that doesn’t help. You know, if your starters are going four and a third, that doesn’t help. I thought we had some great performances today. Ashby and Kanig were were outstanding. Um, you know, um, so that’s something something positive to look for. But, um, for for Isaac to come through in that situation, pitch hitting, what what gave you the confidence to go with him? Yeah, it was a good matchup. you know, was, you know, breaking ball cutter. I felt like Isaac would be on it. He’s got a good strike ball and he’s been really good for us and, uh, I wanted to give Vaughn the whole day, but I didn’t. Um, but I knew we had a bench that could cover it and Isaac came through in the clutch. It was great. All with two outs. All with two outs. You know, that’s two outs, nobody on. Walk. Contrus huge hit. Yelli, huge walk. Collins big hit. That’s how we’ve done it all year. And uh and then Perkins hits the ball right on the nose. Just hit it to the wrong part of the park. Murf on is just because you said the four and a third or whatever. Is there an argument at this point of where your club is and hopefully playing in shorting him up and using him or do you really think of games is where he? Yeah, I think I think we’re learning as we go. I mean, we’re learning as we go. We need him as a starter right now and um he’s developing as a starter. Um that discussion hasn’t begun about what else could happen with that. Chario just getting his, you know, leg still underneath coming back from the injury. How’s he feeling? I know you checked him out. Yeah, I mean, uh he says he’s fine. He looks like he’s not moving as good, but he says he’s fine. this day off will be, you know, received well, I’m sure. That goes for everybody, doesn’t it? I mean, this was quite a stretch. Yeah, I guess I I need to realize that. I guess I need to disappointed about today, but again, you know, you got to credit the Phillies. They got a great club and um we swept them there and they remember it and they they’re they loaded. They they’ve got they brought some people in and they uh and got some people healthy and you know they were they’re playing good baseball. Can I come back to the check swing? Yeah, sure. You can do whatever you want. Did what’ you think when you I’m guessing you looked at it again. Did you look at it again? Yeah. What’ you think? I think he missed the call. His barrel’s out in front of his leg and if you stopped stopped the replay. What do you think? That’s not my job. No, I’m just asking you a question. Close. Isn’t the hard thing on those? Close. He said I’m going to be a politician. You meet me after. Meet me after and I’ll show you what I know what I have. Isn’t the hard thing on those mark? You’re in a great spot for that. We’re in a great spot looking high. Almost like in the worst possible position. It’s a hard call. It’s a hard call. was there were some earlier calls in that inning as well that were kind of compounds or I couldn’t see the left-handers check swing, but um you know umpires have a hard job. They have a hard job. What I don’t like is when they’re definitive that they got it right and then I see what I see after the game and you can see the barrels out in front of his front leg. Tell me how the barrel can be in front of his front leg at any moment and it not be a swing. So I’m not Again, that’s a tough call from the angle he’s at. He does the best he can and that’s all I can say. I can’t I can’t um you know say that if I was in his position I wouldn’t get him right all the time in that particular call for sure. It was just a big moment and you know I felt like that was one that and if you again check swings if you stop they probably always go further than you think if you stop the the the footage and the video. But I mean, his barrel was out in front of his front leg. Tell me how the barrel can get in front of your front leg and that not be a swing. But again, we still gave up a hit and we still didn’t It was one call. I mean, um, you know, umpires are going to miss a call here and there. It’s just part of the game and it you can’t that doesn’t make the difference in the game. Yeah, it almost looked a little bit lot like yesterday. Just not as wellrounded, letting a lead slip away. We saw that a little bit over this stretch, but get these guys an off day. I mean, they’ve had injuries along the way during this big stretch. They just got Ortiz back. Remember, they lost McGill, Grant Anderson. Key roles throughout this entire thing. But now that they have an off day, now that they have September, hopefully they can get some rest and finish up the two following games against these Phillies. Yeah, Shelby Miller also leaving this game with an injury. We’ll wait and see if Pat Murphy has an update on their key member of the bullpen who they acquired at the deadline. Let’s go to I mean we could recap this entire game, but the eighth is really where things get interesting in the top half where Harrison Bader had an RBI double to make it seven to six. I I think it’s important to know that throughout this entire game, the 14 hits that the Phillies got, 12 of those came within the first three pitches, that man right there was swinging early and often. That was an ambush base hit. And then we go later on after Miller comes out. Rob Zrisnney comes in in a very impossible situation with a man on third, nobody out. Almost gets out of it, but gives up a double to stop the one run scores. So yeah, again, back and forth, back and forth. Now we head to the bottom of the eighth. All of this damage coming with two outs and a pinch hit two-run single from Isaac Collins. I mean, I can’t believe that. I mean, a guy like Trey Turner who is so sure-handed the way he played that. I wonder if he lost sight of it going through like a runner running in front of him. Either way, letting that ball get past him, get into the outfield. I mean, I don’t know how you let that happen, but the Brewers were trying to capitalize, go further with that, but it still wasn’t enough. There was also a miscue at second base and air uh that the Brewers got a run as well. So, the Phillies did not play perfect baseball. They let the Brewers back in twice and it still wasn’t enough. So, it’s 88 at this point as we head to the ninth inning. We bring in Abner Aribe who hasn’t allowed an earn run in his last 19 appearances. But our Menard’s big money moment this call potentially changed the entire game. I mean Rio Muto saying you know I I checked my swing. I didn’t go I wasn’t even planning on swinging. And then Morph the umpire says yeah he wasn’t trying to swing. And Pat Murphy disagreed. And you can you can close your eyes and still tell that Pat Murphy is very upset with what happened. And then shocker. Marsh walks up. Second pitch, dribbles it out to right field. That’s enough to score the go-ahead run. And then second pitch, or actually first pitch for Bader, he drops one out right. That scores another one. That is your final 10 to eight. But again, the Phillies are swinging early and things just haven’t gone the Brewers way. I mean, you can say when they were rattling off wins left and right, especially in the 14 winning streak, uh things like that were going their way. Suddenly the check swings are not suddenly the balls are falling right where no one is. We saw an issue in the outfield yesterday with balls just not being caught. Maybe a couple of those here today, but either way, this team needs an off day and they’re going to get it. Just looking at this entire game, I mean, it started with a leadoff solo home run by Bryce Terang. And then you had a Caleb Durban solo home run to lead off an inning. So, that’s how the Brewers had a lot of their offense. But innings five through nine, every single inning, the Phillies had a leadoff batter on, and they ended up scoring nine of their runs in those innings. There was runs scored in every single inning except for the third and the seventh. Somebody was doing damage somewhere. But the Brewers kind of self-inflicted a little bit of the 10 runs they gave up. Three were walks. One was a hit by a pitch. And a lot of that has to do with the leadoff batter. One of the things that I’ve really been harping on talking about starters that have been doing really well. They’ve been retiring that leadoff batter. Even Miserowski did a great job until you know what a guy gets on base with a walk and he ends up scoring. So it that’s that’s kind of the lesson here when the Brewers have done really well. It’s a starting pitching getting that lead off batter out. It’s such a key in the whole thing of what you’re trying to do to win a ball game. So the Brewers sent six relievers to the mound behind Jacob Misarowski in this loss. And coming up on Brewers Live, we’ll take a look. Please take game one and our Wisconsin Lottery Power Ball home run leaderboard. All it took was a few pitches for Bryce Terrain to hit his 17th of the year. Tim, the power surge continues for the Brewers second. Yeah. Hopefully someone notified that baseball is next of Ken. He has been killing baseballs here of late. All over the field, too. He’s just letting the fast ball get deep and driving it the left. That’s really tough for pitchers cuz they’re like, “Wait, you’re supposed to just dump this out in the left at best.” And no, he’s going big fly at the Gerber Loft says one call. That’s all sports desk. Stephen and Tim here with you. I mean, Bryce Tang on base four times in this game. Had a home run, a single, walked twice consecutive games with a home run for the third time in a month span. He had never done it in his career before this past month. Everything he’s doing is pretty elite right now. He saw 35 pitches in his five at bats today. I that’s absurd. Uh but you know what that wres havoc and the reason it’s he the whole team kind of does that is to get starters out of the game which happened the Taiwan Walker just going four innings on those seven hits giving up five runs. A lot of that has to do with a lot of pitches that the Brewers are seeing. Yes. And then you look at Jacob Mizarowski. He goes four in a third, six hits, allows three to earned runs, and you know, had 10 strikeouts his last time out, had four strikeouts this afternoon. They were pesky. I mean, the Phillies were pesky. They were trying to work counts. They were swinging early, but then they foul a bunch of balls off, but I thought he cruised. I thought he looked good uh for four innings. I’ll even throw in, you know, he gives up a first pitch homer to Bryce Harper in the fourth. That’s great. I mean, he K Schwarber, Harrison Bader. Um, and what I really liked about it is that he wasn’t shying away from contact. He was pitching right after it. And he was kind of the guinea pig. They’re finding out that the Phillies is going to be very aggressive with this lineup. They’re swinging first pitch, second pitch, third pitch. That’s where they got almost all of their hits today were on the first three pitches. And so, he kind of was the guy they shoved out there to see what is this team going to look like in this series. So, going into Wednesday, you know that pitchers are going to be aware, hey, they’re swinging and they’re swinging early. Yeah. So, you know, the Phillies watched the tape on the Brewers of how to get to them and we saw the early action ambush and the leadoff batter getting on. We talked about in the last segment, particularly in the third and fifth inning stood out to you with the miss. Yeah, third inning rolls around. I mean, he gets the leadoff man out, but then gives up a single. There’s nothing wrong with that. I think early on, there was some times when it’s like, oh no, a guy gets on base, it’s the end of the world for a young starter, but that’s not the case. You give up a single, it’s not a big deal. He kind of just put it where he wanted. Very next pitch, Trey Turner is up out of the inning. The old rally wrench, the old pair of jeans that fits just right. Uh, two tickets to paradise, whatever you want to call it. Double plays out of the inning. That was his best inning and he gave up a hit. Then we fast forward. We fast forward to the fifth inning and there’s a walk, leadoff man walk. Six pitches. He kind of yanked all white. It’s inside. Not a big deal, right? Well, there was a single, a fieldielder’s choice in there. And then you got Turner up. What are they doing? They’re swinging early. First pitch, boom, triple down the line. Lead off walk ends up scoring. Uh this is just a tale of two different innings. What you do the first batter of an inning matters and good teams are going to take advantage of it. Brewers, they take advantage. They’ve been doing it all year, especially in the month of August. They’ve done it already early here today in this game. But give a good team the lead leadoff man on base and they can work with that. It was the first time that Miserowski’s allowed an earn run in the fifth inning this season. And Tim, just looking at his season as a whole, you can really split it right down the middle. Before All-Star break, after All-Star break. Before All-Star break, he goes 4-1. After All-Star break, he’s a 645 erra. What’s your level of concern with the way that Ms. Rowski has pitched so far in the second half? I think he’s 23 years old. I think he’s in the big leagues. He has electric stuff and maybe he’s never struggled before and you have to figure out what that’s going to look like going forward. Hey, where do I struggle? When does it happen? What inning is it? What type of hitter is it? What pitch is it uh that’s giving you a problem? And then you zero in on that and you try to make corrections going forward. I don’t know if they’re going to try to put him in the bullpen or if they keep him in the starting rotation. Not sure. I think he’s got lights out stuff. I think you next time out they should say you’re going to go three innings. You’re going to go max effort. Whatever you want to do, strike out the world and then we’re going to bring somebody in for the fourth. But you have three innings. And that may be the exact breath of fresh air in the brain that he needs cuz it’s not the stuff. His stuff is outstanding. I think some of the sequencing at times is is questionable and just the style of what he’s trying to do. You can’t strike everybody out. It’s okay to give up contact. Look at someone like Quinn Prester. He gives up tons of contact. Still gets out of innings and he does it on 10 pitches or less sometimes. It is doable. If you have electric stuff, you don’t have to strike everybody out. And he’s had the electric stuff for a couple of innings. Just that one inning that has really come to bite Jacob Misarowski so far in this second half. We’ve got more to come on Brewers Live. We’re going to hear from Pat Murphy. He was ejected early

  1. It's September 1st and now is the time that commissioner Rob Manfred and MLB slow down the Brewers to make sure they don't get the number 1 seed. Milwaukee is a small market for the MLB to make money. Once again we trade for a relief pitcher that had an Era of 1.98 and now he is hurt. Just like Andrew Chifton.

  2. That coach is a cry baby lol your team is t that great there good at best they are where they are bc of the win streak and are not a great team in the sense of great teams

  3. The Brewers play in a very weak division and the Phillies showed they're the better team. No NL team is afraid to play the Brewers in the Playoffs. The Brewers never have success in the playoffs just like last year when the lost to the Mets The "Brew Crew" won't go far in the 2025 playoffs. Their mascot when he slides down the chute when one of the Brewers hits a Home Run is hilarious and ridiculous.

  4. There is no fucking accountability in unfair calls with umps – Jim Wolf please leave the league: A historically bad game: On July 12, 2025, Jim Wolf umpired a game between the New York Mets and the Kansas City Royals where he missed 24 calls, resulting in a correct call rate of only 85.6%. This was reported to be the 10th worst umpire performance of that season. This incident was widely covered on social media, including Threads, TikTok, and Reddit.
