Former MLB Pitcher Mike Adams on signing with the Milwaukee Brewers before the 2001 MLB Draft #MLB

There was some scouts that wanted to come watch me throw. Kansas City, Milwaukee, Toronto, I want to say Cleveland. I said, “We can do it at the high school.” So, I contacted Coach K and asked him, “Hey, come I get on the field to kind of, you know, some scouts want to come watch me through.” He’s like, “Yeah, for sure.” Went out there and threw. I mean, I’m lighting up the radar. Like, I didn’t even like I I was, you know, low 90 91 throughout the season and stuff like that. In this little workout, I’m like 94, you know, 94 94. I’m like, dude, like where did this come from? Even I’m surprised like where did this come from? the Toronto Scout and the Milwaukee Scout were uncle and nephew. And the uncle calls me and he says, “What is it you’re looking for?” So, I’m thinking in my head, I’m thinking, “Shoot, maybe I’m not worth six figures.” I was like, “Look, if you can get me this amount of money, I’ll sign.” He goes, “Okay, I I’ll get back to you in the morning.” I was doing summer school at the time at Kingsville. I’m in history class. They call my dad. So, I go back out and I call my dad. He goes, “Hey, they got you the money.” Are you serious? Like, it was that easy? I said, “Maybe we should ask for more.” He goes, “No.” He said, “You gave them your number. You told them if they were if they got it that you’d sign it.” I was like, “All right.” Went back in the in the history class, got my bag, walked out, and never step foot back in another classroom again. And I only needed like 14 hours to graduate. I called him back. All right, I’ll sign. So, he came over that night, contract everything. I had a little hat and stuff. Signed the contract. So, did they give you the six figures? They say 100,000. I didn’t even get half of that. Shoot. I think I got 40
