🔴LIVE 🔴Baltimore Orioles VS San Diego Padres /September 02/ Mlb Envivo /MLB THE SHOW 25

league baseball on MLB the show. It’s the Baltimore Orioles and the San Diego Padres’s. First pitch coming your way next. So almost ready to get underway and starting in this one, Dylan Cease. What do you look for here? Well, it hasn’t been a great year so far in terms of erra, but he’s had some decent games and there have been some flashes of greatness, if you will. We’ll see today if he’s able to get ahead of hitters and perhaps get some swings and misses, put himself in a position to bring that erra down because, you know, in the back of his mind beyond the W, he wants to have a better earn run average. First pitch. Now the one and that one fouled off and it’s fouled off. They’ll do it again. swing and a miss. Struck him out. Blew the express right by his bat for strike three. And Chris, that’s a way to neutralize his speed by keeping him off base. And the defense breathes a sigh of relief because he puts pressure on everyone if he can put the ball in play. But that’s how you do it. Keep him off balance. Get him out of there and deal with the next guy. One out. Base is empty. swing and a ball drilled in the air towards right center field. Johnson makes the catch and there’s two down. Time now to take a look at the Orioles lineup put together by manager Brandon Hyde. They do a lot of things well in this offense. Singi, they control the strike zone. They make pitchers work hard for outs and as a result one of the better OBP teams in the league. Well, what I love about it is it’s an organizational philosophy. Whether you go to instructional league, whether you go to spring training, you see these guys even during batting practice when it doesn’t matter. They’re practicing that type of approach. Boo. And when you have that filtering through the organization, brings it in and that’s the third out. Nothing doing this time around for the O’s. And now the Padres’s get their first opportunity in a scoreless ball game. Back after this on the show. back here in San Diego. And our pitcher in this game, Kyle Bradish. Chris, his strikeout rate this year among the best all time. He’s truly one of the elite strikeout pitchers in the league. I mean, strikeouts per nine off the charts. So, the opposing team, they know they have their work cut out for him anytime they’re facing this guy or a guy like this that’s going to get the swings and misses. pretty much in a class of his own when it comes to that category. Bottom of the first, stepping in, Luis Araz right through there for a strike. One of my favorite stats all time, 1997, the Hall of Famer Craig Bigio played in all 162 games for the Astros on Astro Turf and he never hit into a double play. [Music] Next pitch off the play. Going to count one and two. Really good take, especially with two strikes. Luis, you got it. Gets a piece there. We’ll do it again. He’s dealing with a great two strike hitter right here. The strikeout is not automatic. Not close with that one. And that’s ball two. Oh, this is a guy that can be frustrating for pitchers because he fouls off so many pitches and grinds out the atbat. I’m sure there’s sometimes where a pitcher would rather just give up a first pitch single than have to waste six. Oh, this one high and deep way back there. And that lands inside the party porch for a home run. Bottoms up. He circles the bases and they grab the lead. It’s one- nothing. He absolutely feasts on right-handed pitching and devours that one for a homer. And you can see that’s what he expects of himself at bat after at bat. He’s that confident. So singy, this is a little bit of a surprise. A guy known for line drives. Hits going over the fence. Well, if you’re a little too early, you’ll get some elevation in the ball to get out of the ballpark. For him, it’s kind of a mistake. But you know what? When you have such a good approach, every now and then you’re going to run into one. Here’s Machado and that’s a little bit high and that’s ball one. Always exciting to see a leadoff home run in an inning. Kind of gets the offense fired up and you start to expect a big inning. And another ball. The real threats are coming up. Already giving up a home run in this inning. He’s going to really have to bear down. Come on, Manny. And a swing and a miss. Good late sink on that fast ball out of the hand. Looks so good. And then by the time he gets in the hitting zone, hard to get the barrel to it. Yeah, that’s fouled off. [Music] And that’s way high. And it’s a full count. [Applause] fights it off. He’ll see another [Applause] inside and that’s ball four. What a battle. It’s not always easy laying off a 3-2 pitch. And I tell you what, he earned that walk. Ryan O’Harn comes up to hit. First pitch and he just misses. [Music] This one in the air. Holiday. Carous it. One away. Let’s take a look at the Padres’s lineup. A guy who’s been huge for them over the last month plus, Jake Croninworth. This guy had an on base percentage of over 400 last month. That’s just telling you he’s taking his walks. He’s getting his knocks. He’s finding some holes. Everything just going really well for him right now. But don’t overlook the fact that that happens because he’s having consistently good at bats. Raone Lauriano at the plate now. That’s ball one [Music] in the dirt. Runner on the go. Hit pretty well in the air out to center. Carlson sizing this one up. They got it for out number two. Here’s Gavin Sheets now. Left hand bat. He set a new careerhigh in at home runs this year. And Sigy, he’s just trying to set the bar as high as possible. Now, first pitch misses. They’ve got him working a little harder in this first frame than he anticipated. That’s out to center field. And that will end the inning. But they’re off to a good start as they pick up a run on this solo shot. It’s now a one- nothing ball game. You’re dialed into the show. Second inning, set to go. Now the third baseman, Emmanuel Rivera. Rivera 28 years old and he was born in Puerto Rico. Let’s go Dylan CE back to work. That one finds the zone and one out towards right center. That’s well struck. banks off the wall, makes the turn, and heads for second. And he’s there with a leadoff double. Well, a swing like that can help you come out of the struggle. We saw the numbers coming into the ball game, but all he’s trying to do at this point is help his team win. Dylan Beavers, the next to hit for the Orioles. That misses and it’s one and0 missed. Appears they’re working around and with the base open. Sing. Well, you know, these two O counts, Boo, they’re just not what they used to be, and we sound like old guys when I say that, but ultimately, this is a strategic game, and you expect to see this type of approach by the pitcher in this situation. Dylan Carlson in the on deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. And ball four, two aboard. That just came apart right there. four pitch walk and guy at the plate was not going to help him out by swinging at something out of the zone. This is Dylan Carlson off the mark there and that’s ball one. And there’s a strike. Good heater at 98. Carl Dixon doing the umpiring behind the plate. And Boo, I’m not sure if it’s because he sort of sets up higher than most. But one thing to be aware of with Dixon is the high strike. Not usually a big deal because most players are swinging at pitches up there, but we may see some surprise looks from hitters from time to time because that’s just so unusual. line drive caught. That swing right there tells me he’s seeing the ball pretty well. I know it didn’t produce a hit, but he made solid contact. And that’s all you’re looking to do anytime you’re at the plate. Samuel Basalo, the next to hit for the Orioles. He’s a catcher by trade, but the DH here in this one. There’s a strike. Well, in this situation with runners on, you got to get ahead in the count so that you can dictate the rest of the at bat. Nice job right there. Just missed. Swinging a miss at a slider. I’d say that stayed in the tunnel for a long time. No chance of even fouling it off. line drive and that’s a base hit out of left center field. Rounds third headed for the plate. He scores to tie it up. He’s in there. It’s 2-1. Big one there as he drives in a couple of runs. Showed a willingness to drive that pitch the opposite way. Didn’t get jumpy. Didn’t try to pull the ball. He let it get deep. Took the barrel right to it and then extended through the swing for the line drive base hit. And here’s the first baseman, Kobe Mayo. Right through there for a strike. 0 and one. Next pitch misses inside. One ball, one strike. Basalo at first, one gone. Outside low and it’s two and one. Swing and a foul out of play. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. Well, that right there is just a pitcher’s pitch. Tailing away from the hitter, blowing away with some good action at the end. You know, even if he gets the bat to that ball, it’s probably just a weak ground ball to the opposite side. I tell you what, that’s a tremendous two- strike pitch. And here’s Alex Jackson. Good power. Not great in the OBP department. Fast ball is outside. Two runs across in the inning here in the top of the second. Just missed. And a slider misses down and away. Two outs. So now two on and two outs. Pretty easy walk right there. Last pitch wasn’t even much to think about. Up next for the Orioles, second base. So the lineup flips over. Now it’s the second baseman Jackson Holiday. His first at bat was a strikeout. misses again. Five in a row. That’s off the mark. And it’s two and 0. Could be some action here on this next pitch. Couple runners on. Probably a challenge pitch coming. Two on, two outs. base hit right field around third. Fires to the plate. He’s safe and it’s three to one. Comes through with the RBI. Solid swing from start to end on time with everything. Really good balance. Nice extension and he met it out front for the line drive knock. First and second, two outs. And next for the Orioles, Jeremiah Jackson for one with a fly out to center and a pop off right side. Foul territory. [Applause] O’Harn pulls that one down and that’ll do it. Three runs for him here and they move ahead. We go to the bottom of inning number two. It’s the Orioles three and the Padres’s one. Bottom of the second. Here’s the second base. Jake Cronin worked. Well, after putting up a nice inning on offense, got some runs across. This is where you look for the starter to go out there, have a shutdown inning. Don’t give that other team any hope. Uh you just hope that he can get through this inning, get the bats back up there while they’re hot. [Music] And that drops in for a strike. [Music] That one 95 to finish him off. Pretty much textbook pitching for the three pitch K right there. Jumped ahead 02 on two pitches he didn’t want to go after at the plate. Then knowing he’s going to be a little more aggressive trying to protect, he expands just out of the zone where he couldn’t do anything with it. He gets the strike out and keeps the pitches thrown to a minimum. Very nice. So digging in now for San Diego, Jose Glacius just missed. Nice. Go. Let’s go. Let’s go. [Applause] Swing and a miss as he chases that one. darting out of the zone. Off the mark there and the count’s even at two. Gets a piece and stays alive. liner base hit. So they get a man aboard with a one out single. Couldn’t have timed it up any better than that. He really shot that one down the right field line and somehow found a way to keep it from slicing. Foul. One thing that was great about the approach, his head was down all the way through the pitch. And that’s how you do it. And now a chance to maybe get creative on offense with good speed on first. Man at first with one gone. Stepping in for San Diego. Rice Johnson swings and pulls it foul to the right side. The Glaciius over at first with one away. [Music] fouled off to the right. Pitch misses. Ball one. [Applause] Swinging a ground ball dive and he’s got it. There’s one to first. Not in time. Great effort there. Well, that ball off the bat ticketed for the outfield and a base hit for the hitter, but just taken away by the diving stop. Nice job. So, digging in Freddy Fine. That one finds the zone. Strike one. Let’s go San Diego. It drops in. Gets away a little bit. Man, those are the types of hits where you don’t feel any vibration in your hands whatsoever. Such a good feeling. Everything was on time and fluid in that swing. Got a pitch he could get the barrel on and lined it into center for the knock. Those always feel good. Back to the top of the lineup. Luis Arise stands in. He’s already homerred here in this one at 96. That pitch is in for a strike. Late swing fouled to the left. That one way inside. One more time. Two on, two outs. Up the middle. Base hit into the outfield. Runner around third. On his way to the plate. He’ll score. It’s an RBI single. And now they trail by one. Well, there you go. The RBI machine. Another clutch runscoring at bat. Yeah, he’s been so good in these situations. Call it clutch if you want, but his resume speaks for itself. So, two outs with runners on the corners. Manny Machado up to the plate. Fast ball for a strike. 0 and one. Hot shot to first base and he snags it to end the inning. But the RBI single pushes across a run. It’s now a 32 ball game. It’s Major League Baseball and it’s on the show. All set for the start of the inning. And into the box for Baltimore, Gunnar Henderson. All right, let’s go. There’s a swing and a drive. Gone. He doinks it off the foul pole. A monster shot to right. His 17th of the year. And they tack one on the board. It’s 4-2. He only needed one swing to square it up. Not wasting any time in that at bat. Boo. Aggressive and it paid off. Well, he really crushed that thing down the line and everyone had to hold their breath until it clanked off the pole. And every time that happens, it just kind of feels like a trick shot or something. But really, it’s just a stroke of luck that it stays fair long enough. Manager out of the dugout and he’s going to make a change. Dylan Cease is done. Two-run ball game as he heads for the dugout. And we’ll be back with a new pitcher. Now pitching. So, the Padres’s with a new arm on the mound, Nick Pavetta. And he’s been really shutting down hitters from the right side of the plate this year. Not a lot of hard contact, not a lot of hits, period. Emmanuel Rivera, the next to hit for the Orioles. That’s a strike. You know, the first manager to ever win a game here at Petco Park was Tony Gwyn. Yes, Tony Gwyn. They had a college baseball tournament here in March 2004 and Tony managed San Diego State to a win. The 01 ground ball up the middle finds its way through base hit. Now batting left fielder Dylan Beavers. So next they a hit for Baltimore. Dylan Beavers worked to walk in his first trip to the plate. Ball one, no strikes. And a pitch. Two balls, no strikes to count. No, that pitch not even close. A two- count now. He can’t be over aggressive. has got to make sure that pitch is right on a TE for him. The 20 is in for a strike. Activity in the bullpen. Wandy Peralta up and loosening in the pen. Reynolds the right-hander loosening up as well. [Applause] And there’s a ball. Rudder at first with no outs here. [Music] and ball four to a board. Base knock and now a free pass. This has the makings of a big inning if they can get a couple more quality at bats. First and second, no outs. Dylan Carlson digs in now. He’s 0 for one. And a first pitch fast ball is in for a strike. California kid played for his dad at Elkrove High School. His teammates there with Nick Madrical. Swing and a fly ball. Well struck left field. Sheets sizes this one up and there’s one down. Samuel Basalo now at the plate. Singled scored his first time. And fires in a fast ball at 95. Ball one there. Fouled off and they’ll do it again. That wasn’t an easy pitch to hit. It’s much easier to do damage against mistakes, but that’s not what that pitch was on the ground right side. Four, six, three, double play and the inning is over. But the solo shot stretches their lead even further. It’s now 42. You’re watching Major League Baseball on the show. Back here at Petco Park as we go to the last of the third. And now the first baseman, Ryan O’Harn. And the first pitch misses for ball one. Come on. Liner snagged at first. It’s never fun going back to the dugout after hitting a line drive that finds a glove, but you will get some high fives. You know, when you make great contact, you feel like you’ve done everything right. But in this game of baseball, not everything is in your control. Lauriano comes up to hit fly to center his first time. And that one just misses a ball and no strikes. That’s a slider for a strike. Dangerous spot for that slider right there. Didn’t seem to quite finish out front and get that sharp break. Tell you what, he doesn’t want to throw that pitch again. And that one way outside and it’s two and one. [Music] Next offering is fouled back. Base hit center field and the Padres’s have a man aboard with one out. I’m sure he feels really good about that one. It’s hard to hit a baseball much better than that. And even a lot of professional hitters aren’t able to reach an exit vo of 114 milesPH. Tell you what, that’s a very impressive swing at the bat. Now the left fielder Gavin Sheets, he’s been a great free agent sign. And that’s off the inside edge. And that is ball one. [Music] Pickoff move to first. Lauraniano dives back in safely. I think you want to get a one-way lead, be very aggressive in the secondary. This hitter, not a power guy, so you want to make sure that you can get some length on the secondary lead and perhaps score on a ball in the gap. Next offering misses three and 0. Jake Croninworth in the on deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. Next pitch in for a strike. Three and one. And ball four, two aboard. Well, interesting. He went with the off speed and walked the hitter. Man, you got to challenge the guy with the fast ball. First and second, one out. And now it’s going to be Jake Croninworth 0 for one. He struck out swinging last time. This is what stat nerds like myself might call a high leverage situation. Yeah, boo. Not sure what the numbers say, but clearly an at bat that could change the course of this game dramatically. outside one and0 movement in the bullpen. Keegan Aken is up and throwing for Brandon High. Duben also getting ready. And that’s in there for a strike. And now it’s even on the inside corner for a strike. Two strikes to a guy who’s already 0 for one with a punch out. The only guy in the lineup with that strike out, but you can’t get too relaxed. You still got to make good pitches to get him out. Out towards left center. Beavers should have this one. puts it away for the owl. Now batting the shortstop, Jose Glacius. Jose Glacius gets a chance to hit now. One for one with a single so far. [Music] Out to short Henderson. tosses across to first. Inning over. Padres’s leave a pair. Still down by a count of four to two. And welcome back to the ballpark out of the fourth. And here’s the first baseman, Kobe Mayo. The wind to the pitch. Oh, he doesn’t get the call. And that’s ball one. [Applause] And a curve finds the outside corner for strike two. He goes down looking. Alex Jackson the next to hit for the Orioles. He reached out a walk his first time. Padres. Fast ball for a strike. And that’s way high and a count even one and one. One and one. Base is empty. One away. Top half of inning number four. Drilled in the air high and deep right field. Lauraniano going back. tries to make the play, but it’s fouled. Strike three and that’s two in to a row. He’s locked in at the plate when he’s using the whole field. He was out in front there. Just needs to let the ball travel a little more and his timing will be back on track. Good pitch for the strike out. So, the batting order turns over. Jackson Holiday the next to hit for the Orioles and immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed hitter. [Applause] Hard hit left side onto O’Harn and the Orioles set down in order. Orioles held in check there, but they still lead this one four-2. Bottom four. So digging in now for San Diego, Rice Johnson. Johnson [Applause] rip to third to first. One up, one down. Now betting catcher Freddy Freddy Fine the next up for the Padres’s a single his first time. And that one wrapped foul. The Padres’s down by a pair. We’re here in the bottom of the fourth. That one down the line and it goes just foul. Oh, I think the key I mean if he can get through one more inning, anything after that, a hitter or two is bonus, but they should be lined up good enough to get to the finish line. [Applause] [Applause] way inside and that hit him. He had two strikes on him and he hit him. Next is the designated hitter, Luis Arise. He’s already homered in this game. Chris baseball today, so many strikeouts and they are available to pitchers. But this is a guy that puts the bat on the ball and is kind of different from the players that we see day in day out. man at first, one away. That one pulled foul. Yeah, his swing is so good. It’s in the zone a long time. He gets the barrel to it a lot and that produces more base hits. Just missed. Blind drive. base hit. They get it in quickly. So, first and second now, one out. You know, I was watching his rounds during batting practice today. So impressed with his ability to let the ball travel, go back up the middle and the other way. Sometimes when you step in the box during the game, you get a little anxious and you get away from that. But so far, I’ve seen him stay consistent with his pregame preparation. Now, the Orioles manager is out of the dugout and he’ll make a move to the pen. Kyle Bradish gives way and he’s not going to be happy with himself. New pitcher on the mound in a moment. Now a new arm into the game, the righty Sha Duben. Still a lot of game left and this game could go either way. So this is a big opportunity for him to get some important outs and try to help carry this lead into the later innings. Two on, one out. Manny Machado getting ready to hit. He’s 0 for one. And Manny gets a piece. Firm mean the lead runner out at second. Arise over at first with one away. dives but it falls and now it looks like extra bases for me headed for the plate. The run scores. Here comes a second relay throw and he’s in there and we are tied. Two run score. Well, that was an important at bat in this game. So, a great job there stepping up to the challenge. Nice line drive to the pole side right there, but he didn’t spin off of it. That’s the key. You still have to extend through the baseball in order to hit a line drive like that. Ryan O’Harn will hit next. Bowl for two in this one. just missed. Man at second and fouled off. in the dirt but kept close. No advance. Good job behind the dish. [Applause] Well, he knows they don’t want to give him anything to hit, but when you’ve got opportunities to drive in runs, you’ve got to expand the zone. He’s capable of going out there and doing damage with it in the dirt. Well done behind the dish. Knocks that one away and will do it again. I wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball. Try to go again with a fast ball. Slightly elevated. He just having a hard time catching up. And ball four to a board. Well, they didn’t give him anything to hit and now with runners on first and second, they’ve set up a double play opportunity. So, not a terrible result. First and second, one out. Here’s Raone Lauriano. And that’s in there for strike one. And a breaking ball drops in for a strike. Still only one out here in the inning. That’s off the inside corner. The countdown now two and two. Ground ball right side. It squirts through. Throw comes in quickly. holds that go ahead run at third and they’re still one away. Well, that may end up being an at bat we go back to later on when this game is over. Just a simple ground ball the other way that had eyes on it, man. Sometimes that’s all you need to do. Just let the ball travel, put the ball in play, and just hope it finds a hole. Here’s the left fielder, Gavin Sheets. Golden opportunity right here inside and it’s one and0. [Music] fast ball for a strike at 95. Well, we call that keyholeing. Even though it’s right there and looks pretty good, if he doesn’t love it, he’s not going to swing that early in the count. Ground ball left side could be two. Offbalance feed. There’s one. And that’s two. But they’ll pick up a couple runs here. Both coming on this two-run double. All even now at four apiece. It’s Major League Baseball on the show. We’re back and there’s a new arm on the mound to start the fifth. Jason Adam. He has a great slider with tons of movement. Number 40, Jason Adams. The batter now, Jeremiah Jackson. Right fielder number 82. Slider right there. I’ve gotten to call some incredible NLDDS games here at Petco Park between the Padres’s and their fierce rivals, the LA Dodgers. NLDS game four here in 22 when the Padres’s knocked off LA and then game four in 2024 when the Dodgers started their comeback and eventual run to the World Series. One of the great fan environments in baseball. Let’s do it. Next pitch is outside. Pretty easy to give up on that pitch right there. Started on the edge of the plate with the spin. You know it’s going to finish well off the plate. Now there’s a bullet down the line and that’s a fair ball. Go ahead run into scoring position as he stops at second. Well, that’s how you respond. Leadoff man comes up, gets into scoring position. Now, there are several ways that they can get this run across. Go ahead run on base. And here is Gunnar Henderson. That one finds the zone. That’s strike one. As a pitcher, you know the runner on second is ready to push things with this speed. A base hit is probably going to be a big run, so you really have to execute on the mount. Runner at second. Nobody out. [Applause] Come on, punch him out. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. Not what you’re looking for after the leadoff double. A strikeout. And there’s one away. Emanuel Rivera at the plate. Emmanuel Rivera. He’s been such a good hitter with runners in scoring position. Some guys just take it to another level. For him right now at the plate, it’s like everyone else is in slow motion. And oh, this is deep to left center. Way back there. On its way. Gone. He’ll take a trot around the bases. His first homer of the year. And that’s how they take the lead. It’s 6-4. Chris, we knew this moment was coming for him soon. Yep. And it finally came. We knew it was only a matter of time before he’s going to connect with one just like that. He’s just too good of a hitter at the plate. A good hitter gets pitch recognition early. He saw exactly where that was going to be. The challenge, not get over anxious and come out of your swing. He stayed on it and got all of it. Next to hit, Dylan Beavers. [Applause] First pitch, doesn’t find the zone. Adam, a 63 righty, 33 years old, and he’s one of the few players in Major League Baseball born in Kansas. And now it’s even up. Well, he had a pretty good look at that pitch and not sure exactly what tied him up there. Couldn’t pull the trigger and perhaps the best pitch he’ll see in this at bat to hit. Hard hit right side and he takes it himself for the out. Let’s go. Now batting the center fielder Dylan Carlson. Dylan Carlson the next to hit. Taken high in the draft. He’s had that top prospect label over him since he put on a professional uniform. But at some point that starts to go away and you’ve got to produce at the big league level. That’s down and in. And that one missing low. Splits the plate. Two and one. Now in today’s game, not that many fast ball counts, but hitters still in the back of their minds, they’re looking for one. Two change up call right there. Excellent pitch selection to go with. [Applause] Swing and a ball lifted left field. Sheets brings it in for the third out. But two come across to score in the inning courtesy of this two-run homer. It’s a two-run lead now at 64. You’re watching Major League Baseball on the show. Back now to start the bottom of the fifth and taking over on the mound, Keegan Aken. He’s having a ton of success facing left-handed hitters this season, so this seems like a smart move to turn to him with a lefty at the plate. Now, here’s Jake Croninworth, second base Cronin. [Applause] And that is cut on and missed. Strike one. You know, these Padres’s, simply put, are producing a lot of quality swings. We’ve heard lots of loud noise coming from their bats in this one, haven’t we? I mean, they’ve launched six hits at 90 plus exit velocity, and that doesn’t happen by accident. Just off the outside edge and a count two and one. And that’s pushed foul off to the left and out of play. out to short. Henderson slings to first. That takes care of Cronin Worth. That play won’t be trending on social media later on, but it’s still important to execute it to perfection. This game is a lot harder than it looks, partner. Next for the Padres’s, Jose Glaciius, one for two. Let’s go Briers. Swing and a miss. It’s 0 and one. And one top of the zone and it’s called a strike. Got him swinging for the strikeout. Chase the fastball up the ladder for strike three. That’s tough. You see it well. I mean, that was clearly up and out of the strike zone, but that’s one of the hardest things. And when you see a pitch out of the hand at eye level, that discipline to remember, I can’t hit that pitch. If I can see it really well at eye level, I can’t catch up to that pitch when a pitcher’s got this kind of velocity. Digging in, Bryce Johnson. Foul ball. Swing and a chopper out to short. Henderson over to first in time. Padres’s go down one, two, three. Nothing doing there for the Friars. They trail it here. Six to four. Back now. And on the mound, the closer, Robert Suarez, left-handed batter at the plate, and he’s been excellent in those matchups this year. So, this seems like a calculated move. Now, it’s the DH, Samuel Basalo. Samuel Basio. That one finds the zone and that is strike one. You know, these Orioles showing great discipline at the plate, and patience definitely seems to be the name of their game in this one. One thing that really stands out is their chase rate. League average is around 30%, but they’re at less than 20% right now. Croninworth pulls it down and he makes the catch. And a quick out number one, Kobe Mayo. And now the first baseman, Kobe Mayo, who’s 0 for two with a pair of strikeouts. It’s been tough fooling these hitters and those chase rate numbers back it up. They’ve been really smart at the plate and that’s one of the best ways to frustrate a pitcher because nothing seems to come easy. Pitch misses there. Ball one and it’s fouled away. So, a foul ball makes it one and two. Swing and a popup. Foul territory for the catcher. Has room and he makes the catch. Now batting catcher Alex. Two outs. Base is empty. Here’s the catcher Alex Jackson. He is struck out and he is walked [Music] and first offering is fouled off. Two outs. Base is empty. San Diego. That one catches the zone and the count is 0 and two. [Applause] And ball one. Fouls it off. Still one and two. Swang and a miss. Struck him out and good work there as he gets a one, two, three. Three up, three down for him there. Nine one and two scheduled to hit in the home half of the sixth. It’s the Orioles six Padres’s four. Back now for the bottom of the sixth. And there’s a new pitcher on the mound. Year Canó. He comes in with a chance for his second save of the season. Stepping in for San Diego, Freddy Fine. You got the number nine hole hitter right here looking to do whatever he can to get on base, turn this lineup over so the best hitters in this lineup have a chance to tie up the ball game or maybe even walk it off. Fast ball in for a strike 0 and one [Applause] and that’s downed away. [Applause] and he hits a ground ball right side and that’s just foul. Fights that one away. Still one and two. [Applause] Next offering misses down and away. [Applause] It’s in and out of his glove. Still fires to first. Safe. It was never going to be easy after the misplay. leadoff man aboard on the error and that puts your pitcher in a little bit of a tough spot right away to start the inning. Not where you want to be. So, we’ll see if he’s able to work around it and pick the defense up. Back to the top of the order and now Luis Azis three for three. Two singles and a homer. Pitch is in there and it’s 0 and one. [Music] tying run at the plate. Check swing and he went and that’s strike two. On the ground is short. Could be two. There’s one relay to first double play. They made that double play look so easy, but it was far from routine. That’s the one thing about big leagers. They make tough plays look simple. So, they’re down to their final out. Here’s Manny Machado. And that’s off the inside edge. And that is ball one. And Manny gets a piece and that drops in for a strike. Canó is just one strike away. That missed by a lot. Now two and two. Oh, that hit him. And they get the out after the ricochet. That’s the ball game. Well, this was a tightly played game. Got a little of everything. Some timely hitting, runs on the board, key pitching and defense in certain spots. Definitely a fun one to watch. And this one ends with a final score of 6 to4 as the Orioles win this one.
