Gabe, Poyer, Jordan Phillips

  1. Just an appreciation alumni paycheck. We’re all family and you can always come home team mantra

  2. Mecole Hardman caught the game-winning TD for the Chiefs in the SB two years ago and fit the same definition of a washed out player that got a bag with a crappy team and circled back to their old team for peanuts.

Love the meme overall but it does work out sometimes. Also, it’s just the practice squad until further notice…

  3. In Gabe’s defense, it’s gotta be brutal being referred to as washed up when you are 26 years old haha. What a mindfuck.

  4. I don’t understand the hate, they’re all players who’ve been solid and productive in the past joining the team for the occasional call up from the PRACTICE SQUAD. Great for bringing up younger players, low cost high upside signings

  5. This is funny, but to take it too seriously, I remember being furious watching the Patriots do this for like two decades. Letting guys go get paid, maybe getting a comp pick, bringing them back for nothing in a lesser role that fits them is just good team building.

  6. Would you rather have AJ Klein? It’s a few guys who know the system chilling on the practice squad. They’ve worked with Josh and McD before so I’m totally fine with this. When inevitably someone gets injured just plug the hole temporarily with one of these players

I do love the meme though

  7. I don’t think bringing Poyer back on the practice squad is going to make or break the season. If it comes to the point where Poyer or Phillips has to play significant minutes the season is probably already lost.

  8. We didn’t resign them to important roles, but I will say this is a funny use of that meme.

  9. These are low cost insurance policies with basic benefit payouts. If they don’t use them, no big deal. If they end up using them then things have totally come off the rails. The salary cap is real, especially if you want to contend every year.

  10. What’s with the hate for veteran practice squad guys? They know the system, can teach young players, and still can play in a pinch. All three of them, when healthy, can hold down some game reps while a new player learns the system.

  11. Gabe Davis may actually pan out if he stays healthy. Are we positive that there are 4 WRs ahead of him on the depth chart?

He may benefit from flying under the radar. He was at his best when he was behind Diggs, Sanders, Beasley. Disappointed when we tried to annoint him as the #2 receiver

  12. Gabe Davis will fill the hole left by Mack Hollins who filled the hole left by Gabe Davis. Neither of these guys are top tier receivers but they can make plays when called upon, block in the run game and deliver good vibes.

  13. I would wager heavily that the only guy on the practice squad who will see snaps this season is Davis and it will not be anywhere near his previous usage.

If practice squad guys are seeing significant roles, it’ll be because we’re deeply fucked already

  14. There is absolutely nothing wrong with bringing in quality depth and stashing them.

In the case of Jordan Poyer, what safety are we going to be able to bring in? Who knows the system or is a high-quality player? There is maybe one or two safeties out there that could be an upgrade, but they don’t know the system, and we can’t afford them. If we need Paul to play in the pinch, he is going to perform better than pretty much anybody else out there, even if his physical traits are deteriorating.

Same thing with Davis, we are still getting an NFL caliber wide receiver, who can come in in a pinch. Samuel hasn’t been healthy at all, and outside of our top three our receiving core is pretty lackluster. Bring in a guy who knows the system, is a great run blocker, a quality WR and is basically free.

Remember when we had to call AJ Klein off a vacation/retirment to come start for us in the playoff game two years ago? Adding quality depth to the practice squad in the addition of aged vets is the way to go.

At this point, our top option on the practice squad at each position I mostly feel comfortable about playing in spot duty. Maybe not quarterback, but if Josh is out, we are fucked anyway.
