New York Yankees @ Houston Astros | Game Highlights (9/2/25)

from Valdez on the year. Very durable, very solid across the board when you look at his numbers. They kind of speak for themselves. First pitch jumped on and grounded to short. Pñena fields and he gets Goldmith. One pitch, one out. Big cut and down goes Bellinger. Two away. No home run there, but a bullet single into left center field. Cutting overs Dubon. And he holds Judge to a two-out single. And the payoff high pop up on the right side. Christian Walker is there. He’ll put it away. They say it’s in fair territory for the final out. No runs a hit. One man left. Astros coming to bat. Here’s Max Freed. It’ll be his 28th start on the year. Rounding out really good numbers across the board. Only 13 home runs given up. And he walked him on four pitches. Yeah, it’s been an interesting strike zone so far. Even Even Pñena thought it was a strike. This could be two. Booted, but they get the force at second. Took a hop. Got Bulpi in the chest, but he got it over to Chisum for one out. Swing and a miss. Walker down on strike. So after the four pitch walk to Pena, Max Freed retires the Astros. We go to the second and another base hit for Gisham. Smith will get it in. A leadoff single for Trent. Jazz three for 14 in the four game set in Chicago. High drive right field going back as Smith turning looking. See youa. A two-run home run for Jazz. And the Yankees are up two nothing. [Applause] When you’re facing a sinker ball pitcher, you got to focus on making him get the ball up. And when he does, you put a good swing on it. Sinker doesn’t sink. It runs more than it sinks. So it stays on the same plane. Jazz Chisum just launches it. Chopped and it’s a fair ball and hits off the side wall. Cabayro hustling and he will get the second with a double. Runner goes the throw to third. Not in time. 42nd stone base for Cababayro. Infield in and I guess one of those pitches was a strike. So it was 0 and two as he gets punched out. Did not like the call. The scoreboard here at the ballpark had it one and one. We did as well, but it was obviously 0 and2 as Wells down looking. Valdez rocks and deals. Swings through a curveball and that’ll do it. Chopped slowly to short. Charging Vulpi. Fires. Got him. Ground ball. Vulpi backhands charging. Fires. Got him. Ground ball. Cabayro. The long throw. Got him. Three ground balls to the left side for Freed. He retires the Astros in order. And we’ll go to the third. You saw me in oldtimers day. You got to wonder what’s going on with Freed now. He’s never this wild and he just hits the number nine batter. Two balls to the back stop. Ball four was way high as well. So stark contrast to the second inning. Eight pitches. And when you throw six different pitches and so many different grips that you know sometimes you can get caught in between. And a bunt right back to Freed. He’s going to go to third. They get the force. He’s a gold glove winner and he had no hesitation whatsoever. Firing to Cabayro for out number one. Chop Goldmid. There’s one and not there in time. And Freed was waving his arms. Don’t throw it. Don’t throw it. He didn’t get to first in time. Watch Freed fall off the mound as he’s by third base. And just that little hesitation was all it took. And he’s waving the white flag right there. [Music] Ground ball. Vulpi. He’ll go to second and that’ll do it. So Freed works into and out of trouble. Astro Strand two. We go to the fourth. There’s a base hit the other way. So he pulls the two-run home run. And then now a two-out single to left field. Here’s Cababayro. A double in the second. And that one hits Cabayro. Are they saying that Cabayro swung? He did go around and now he gets thrown out of the game. And here comes Aaron Boone. That was a really quick toss. I don’t know what Cavayo said, but Deji Seuss threw him out. Calvaro got thrown out of a game earlier in his uh stint with the Yankees and it was a bad situation because the Yankees are short on the bench. Now here in the fourth inning he gets thrown out. So they’ll go to Ryan McMahon and he’ll take over the 01 count. Runner goes and the ball gets away from Salazar. But Chisum didn’t see it as he made the slide head first. So he’ll stay at second and that’s his 26th stolen base. Grounded to first base. Walker will take it himself and that will do it. No runs to hit. One man left. We’ll go to the bottom of the fourth. Darren Boon walked out to the second base umpire Adrien Johnson who’s the crew chief and he wanted to talk about his player getting thrown out. And then he doubles back and goes to Adrien uh or Raone de Jesus and pretty much tells him that was not cool what you did. And there we go. Couldn’t draw it up any better. One away. Ground ball. McMahon. [Applause] And they get Diaz. Another ground ball to the left side. Swing and a miss. A one, two, three inning for Max Freed. We’re going to go to the fifth. Yankees up two nothing. Check swing. Did he go? No. A walk for Goldmith. No strikeout this time. It’s a line drive base hit to right field. Coming in Smith. He’ll get the ball in and first and second. One man out for Judge. And the first five guys on the list, David. It’s been the same top five since August of 1957. That’s not a home run, but it’s a base hit. Holding up was Goldmith, so he’ll advance to third. That’s a second hit for a judge. And the Eagles have the bases loaded for Stanton. Strike three. Stand thought it was high. Punched out there by the home plate umpire Deus. Here’s Tren Gisham. [Applause] Highfly ball. Alt back on the track looking up. See youa. A grand slam for Gisham. His magical season continues. It’s 6 nothing Yanks. Just a backb breakaking swing if you’re from Valdez on the mound. Two outs. Base is loaded. Strike out Stanton. You got Gisham. Gisham finds the Crawford boxes. Touch them all. 29th home run for Trent Gisham. Swing and a miss. Duban down on strikes and down goes Pñena. Fifth strike out for Max Freed. That one’s drilled to right field. Is it high enough? It’s off the wall as Wells will go to second with a double ahead of the throw by Smith. M pretty close. Yeah, guy missed it with his hat. Trying to catch it with his hat right there. Right field on the run is Smith and he makes the play taking an extra base hit and an RBI away from Goldmith. Ground ball and grabbed there by Goldmith. He’s going to take it to first and beat Altuve there as Koreah advances to second. 10 into left center field. That’s going to find Grass. Dunks in for base hit. Kareah had to hold up as Gisham gets the ball into second. So a bloop single for Walker and it’s first and third with one man out against Freed. Grounded to McMahon. They get one on the first not in time. Run scores. So a field’s choice and RBI for Diaz. Kareah crosses the plate. Now it’s 6-1 Yanks. Highf fly ball right field. Bellinger is there and puts it away for the final out. But the Astros get a run on two hits and one man left. We go to the seven. [Music] Ground ball and knocked down by McMahon, but all he could do is hold it. And it’s a base hit for Dubon. Well, that looks like that’ll do it for Max Freed. hasn’t signaled yet. Now he’s letting him stay in. He is letting him stay in. And a bunt and it’s caught by Freed. Why? And it’s a double play. Terrible baseball there by the Astros. They’re down by five. And Salazar tries to butt. Second time in this game they’ve tried to butt to a gold ball pitcher. Vulpy fields and Freed with seven outstanding innings as he gets out of the seventh giving up just one run over the seven inning stretch. [Music] David, how many people you think play the name that Yankee game and they just try to do it without going to artificial intelligence or chat GPT? I’m cheating right now as we speak. If you play the game the right way, you try to rack your brain and figure it out. Well, De Jesus looks like he’s itching to throw somebody else out. driven deep to right field. If it’s fair, it’s gone. It’s fair, it’s gone. Another home run for Jazz Chisum. And the Yankees are up 7-1. [Applause] Strike three. Koreah did not like the call. Blackburn gets the strike out. Swing and a miss. Yankees have done the job against Alt. He’s 0 for four and tipped into the glove of Well, so Blackburn does strike out the side. Astros go down in order all with K’s swing and a miss. Got him. So Oras the fourth strikeout victim of Blackburn. Right back to Blackburn. That’s going to be a game-ending double play. The Yankee pitcher certainly fielded their position tonight and the Yankees win the first game of this three-game set 7-1. A big grand slam for that man and two home runs for Jazz Chisum Jr. So all goes well for the Yankees in the beginning of this 12game stretch. [Music] [Applause] Can’t do count your [Music]

  1. I made the mistake of watching someone else's highlight package for this (I caught the first half of the game on the radio)… my apologies, I am not doing that again… some people do not know how to edit… sheesh, thanks… what a job by fried! and 2 pitchers catching and turning a DP ? sheesh… one in a game is something 2 !? that was awesome.. and Grisham is the Cheshire Cat, did you all catch his smile on the GSlam?

  2. That double play made by Fried was filthy! It’s so great to see him back to his ace-self and dominate against the good teams. Nothing beats beating the Cheatstros! 😂😂😂

  3. These umpires this year are out of line. It's like they wear their feelings on the cuff. God forbid you challenge them. If you're blatant and disrespectful, that's one thing. Back when baseball was played by the old timers, those ups took some criticism. They are just weak skinned nillies

  4. I'm from Houston. I work down the street fron the astros ballpark. I love wearing my Yankees cap, surrounded by Astros fans! I'm glad the Yankees whooped the Astros in their home!

  5. 7:48 allegedly framber valdez intentionally crossed up his catcher salazar and drilled him in the chest with a fastball after the grisham slam because salazar signaled for him to step off a few seconds before he threw the pitch
