Tennessee Titans fan is so happy watching Cam Ward interview where he proves he’s a DOG

Tennessee Titans fans, week one is here. The Titans and the Broncos this Sunday. And the media just remembered that the number one overall pick in the draft is the quarterback of the Titans. We’ve got Cam Ward being interviewed here by the NFL on CBS. I don’t know if I’ve seen Cam Ward interviewed by anybody. So, here we go. Your journey, although well documented, still bears us talking about a little bit if that’s okay. We’ll go quick. Well documented by who? That’s what I want to know. Your journey is well documented. I haven’t heard a thing about his journey from most of y’all. Through them, but give me a What did you take from each spot when I throw it at you? Okay. That you that you carried with you high school experience. What did you take? And then Miami Hurricanes call experience. I say the biggest thing I have to take away is that you have to be patient. Incarnate Word. Incarnate Word experience. Id say Gunslinger for sure. Now you had a chance to fling it around a little while. Yep. Washington State. Washington State. I’ll probably say I’ll probably say open-minded. Um, I think that’s where I became just more of learning about others. Um, being a true team player, then also learning how to lead guys. Miami, I’ll say I’m not a huge fan of the transfer portal and the NIL stuff and people jumping around every year. But I will say in the in a case like this, the good thing about it is he’s been in so many different places. he’s had to adapt to so many different um schemes and offenses and things like that that I mean I transitioning to the NFL I know is a whole different beast and I’m sure they’re going to talk about that but he’s used to having to learn new things. He’s used to having to adapt and that’s good. I just say a dog. I just think that’s where everything came together when I finally understood the quarterback position, what it what it means, you know, not only as a playmaker, but just as a person. You mentioned Washington State and leadership. Read a few things about you about leadership that before you went places, you would coordinate with people. Okay. Tell me who the janitor is. Tell me who the trainer is. Tell me who gives us our meals. Give me pictures. Give me this. And then let me learn about my teammates. Put my locker in a place where we’ll have that traffic and I get to know these people. Yeah. Again, you had an you have an innate sense of doing that. Where did you get it? How do you continue to develop it? That leadership aspect. I just think it’s something that you’re born with it, but you also got to practice and take time with it, too. Um, and just learning. I think he reminds me so much of Steve, man. He reminds me so much of Steve McNair. Just the tone of his voice. If I mean I just remember when Steve would get interviewed no matter what they asked him he would go well you know it just like he just had that same like laid-back matterof fact tone to his voice man the first thing me always got to learn everybody name in the building cuz I see you every day and I don’t know your name or if it’s vice versa I’d be mad if you didn’t know my name and you know you see me every day. Um so uh everywhere I’ve been everybody in the building has always been good to me. I’ve been kind to them and I just think I just think it’s just a certain level of respect that you got to have for other people. Yeah. Now you’re with the Tennessee Titans. Mhm. How does that leadership translate? I know you’re a quarterback, so there’s a natural leadership part of it, but you’re joining a team with a bunch of grown men on it as well. Have you go out about your leadership there and also maybe learning from maybe some guys on the team in addition? Uh, I think you approach it the same. Um, getting to know them outside the building. Uh, I think that’s one thing Coach Callahan has emphasized us doing a lot of things outside the building. So, it’s kind of like a college atmosphere. Um, it’s it’s fun in the locker room is fun. One thing you can say, he is absolutely connected with even the older players that you would think like what does a Tony Pard or a Calvin Ridley or a Tyler Lockett, what do these guys have in common with Cam Ward other than that they’re football players? Like these guys are older, they’ve got families, they’ve got kids. Cam Ward to them, they probably view him as a kid. Like what do they have in common with him, but he has come in and like he’s one of them. Like he’s he’s on their same he’s on the same page. Outside the locker room, especially when we get on the field, we be able to talk trash to each other. And then also just learning about experiences from vets that they had in their rookie years to, you know, maybe I won’t have to experience stuff like that cuz I can get ahead of it by learning from them. Uh so I think I think we just have a lot of room to veterans all different types of personalities at the end of the day we all want to win football games and just with my leadership qualities I think you know it helps bring the locker room together with your journey starting where you know people didn’t know who you were and your incarnate word Washington State Miami you never lost sight of what you really wanted and being the number one pick in the draft goal dream but never something you thought was not attainable correct when you got that when when you got to that position where you were battling it out, we heard the story about, you know, your pro day and you ran by the Titans brass and told them, “I’m solidifying it today.” What did you see in their reaction when you ran by them and told them that? Well, I knew they loved it. Um, and that’s just type of competitor I am. Um, and it was just it was it was it was crazy because I was getting tape before the pro day. U don’t nobody really know this. And Abdul Carter had put something out on Twitter and I’m not a real social media guy. I said, “Okay, I don’t I’m not going to do it in front of the phone. I’m going to do it in person.” Um so, you know, I end up doing that. But I mean, a couple things about this. He said, “I saw Abdul Carter was out here campaigning to be the number one overall pick on Twitter.” I said, “Okay, I’m gonna do it in person. I’m going to do my campaigning on the field. I’m gonna do my campaigning at the pro day. I’m gonna do my campaigning in front of them in person. I’m gonna show them what I can do. That’s that’s dog mentality. Not a knock on Abdul Carter at all. I think he’s going to be great as well, but that’s dog mentality. Also, zero in on this with me real quick. I a I concede Cam Ward’s not much of a social media guy, but if you think for one second hearing that story of that he saw Abdul Carter’s tweets and that fired him up to go prove himself even more. If you think for one solitary second that he ain’t seen all this media coverage or lack thereof for him and took it personally. If you don’t think for one second he ain’t had his eye on Mel Kyper, Booger McFarland, Skip Bis, Steven A. Smith who said he just don’t talk enough and that’s why we don’t talk about him. He ain’t stopped talking since he got to Nashville. Where y’all been? The guy that he never stops talking. All he does is talk. He just talks about football. And I guess that’s not enough for you guys. But like if you don’t think he has seen all of that and taken it personally, you’re just talking about the wrong guy. Because if he saw Abdul Carter’s tweets and that fired him up even more to go prove it at the proday, you better believe he has seen the media coverage or lack thereof. All those times, is this the least talked about number one overall pick we’ve ever seen? He’s seen it. He knows it. He’s storing it away right up here. And you’ll hear about it later if he if he’s able. You You’ll hear about it later. It was just the competitor coming at me whether I’m throwing, you know, one football game or, you know, coach Khan gonna put the ball in me 40 times a game. And so, you know, I’m just want to win whether it’s practice, whether it’s a game. And I just think just over time, you know, it’s going to it’s going to end up, you know, leading, you know, to helping my career. What’s it been like from the moment you got your name called, went across the stage, now you know you’re going to be a Titan, and then you got to work. Mhm. What’s that been like? Coach Callahan, Coach Hardigree, rest of the crew, rest of the team. What’s been your experience? It’s been great. Um, a surreal moment once I heard my name called, then once I got to Tennessee, uh, we got straight to work. I think, you know, with Coach Nick, Coach Bo, and Coach Kelly, I have, you know, three of the best offensive minds in football. And they constantly emphasize, you know, it’s a it’s about making, you know, myself better along with the team and offense, having us be a productive having us have a productive year this year. Uh, and one thing about those three guys, they always have my back. Um, whether, you know, they believe, you know, a play was my fault, they always going to take the blame of it, even though I know the play might have been my fault. And so, I just I just think they’ve they’ve shown me the ultimate trust, and I hope I show them the same trust that I have in those guys. Uh, and I and I’m excited to, you know, continue to work with those guys, you know, for to constantly watch from those three. I think that’s the biggest thing that, you know, I haven’t had in college that I have now. Just the the feedback on just the little things. I think that’s going to help me. How do you maintain such an even keel as a quarterback? I mean, I know you’re excited to play. I know you’re doing, but you have your ups, you’re going to have your downs. I don’t care if veterans are going to have those. How do you how do you keep yourself in that even spot? Would you know, okay, tough day yesterday, but I bounce back today? Uh, I I’ve lost a lot throughout my career. High school, Washington State, Cardware, and and Miami lost some games. So, you you learn how to handle it over time. Um, I lost it. Well, we don’t we don’t want to get comfortable handling it. Okay. We I know it’s good to know like losses are going to happen, bad games are going to happen, but we I mean, you know, we got to we we loved that bounce back. All right. We never bounced back last year. Last year, there was no bounce back. We were just bouncing around getting our heads bounced in in practice um in NFL. Lost in joint practice in NFL. Had bad days. I also had some better days, too. But I think that’s the that’s the life of a quarterback. U can’t get too high, can’t get too low cuz at the end of the day, everybody’s looking at you. Um I’m going to have a bad game this year. I’m going to have a great game as a rookie this year. So, you know, I think just my parents, they they taught taught me how to handle it. Um then over, you know, my career throughout high school, you know, I’ve learned how to handle certain situations. Um and so I just I think I’ve just always been ready for it. It’s one thing that encourages me about him a lot. When you hear other people on the team or coaches talk about him, they all say, “Hey man, whenever he has a bad play or a bad rep in practice, he comes right back and and nails it the next time.” You know, that’s what you like to hear. even in the little bit of time we saw him in the preseason, you know, in the Tampa Bay game, the first drive wasn’t good. You know, a couple incomplete passes, three and out, came back the next drive and was slinging it to Calvin and everything and they had a touchdown. So, I mean, that’s something we’ve even in training camp, preseason scene, the response to adversity, backs against the wall, he always comes out swinging. You love to see that. Welcome to the NFL moment. We always talk about it’s usually like, who did you play against? Was it a big hit? what have you. But along the way, you’ve had a lot of welcome to the NFL type moments. Has there been any one that’s hit you where you’ve gone, “Yeah, this is where I knew I wanted to go and now I’m finally there.” Um, I probably have to say my welcome. I say practice um was just seeing how how fast the safeties can get from hash to hash. Um, I’m throwing a go ball um to red and wood almost got there in time. Um, so really constantly learning how much air I can put under balls if I have to. And then also just when I need to drive balls and take some off, you know, over across the middle. All right, last question. It’s been a heck of a journey so far. Plenty more to come obviously, right? He hasn’t even played a game. Heck of a journey so far. He had even played. You open at Denver and now starting at quarterback for the Tennessee Titans, number one, Cam Ward. Have you dreamed about that moment? And have you dreamed about that run out and what it’s going to be like? What are your thoughts? Um, when we go to Denver, I know it’s going to be some booze. So, you know, I’m waiting to hear that. Um, if it was up to me, I’d rather play on the game every road, every game my life. Um, I love playing on the road. got a little that gave me a little goosebumps right there. If it was up to me, I’d play every game on the road. I’d play every game on the road. He’s slick, man. But, you know, hopefully we come out there with a win. I know I know Denver, they ready for us. We going to be ready for them. Um, but, you know, I’ve been waiting on this Mo since I was six. And so, you know, when you know, when the Reb blow the whistle, you know, my man Joey Sly, when he kicked that ball off, you know, we going to be ready to My man Joey Sly. When’s the last time the Titans had a quarterback with this kind of swagger? When’s the last time the Titans had a quarterback with this kind of swagger and this kind of confidence? Even Steve. Steve was confident, but Steve was like Steve was quieter than Cam. I think Steve was like uh Steve didn’t like, you know, talking a whole lot, you know, and since then it’s been like Vince was seemed quiet from what I remember. It’s been like 20 years, but I mean Vince was quiet. Jake Locker was a very quiet, reserved guy. Matt Hasselbeck was a veteran who was just, you know, kind of professional. Not that Cam’s not professional, but you know what I mean. He was like, you know, all buttoned up, nice. Um, Marcus very quiet, just super nice guy. Tanahill was not the type to, you know, he he was a by the books guy. I don’t know if I’ve in my lifetime seen a Titans quarterback who would be willing to sit there and say, “Man, if it was up to me, I’d play every game on the road. I’d play every game on the road. Denver’s going to be ready for us. We’re going to be ready for them. We’re going to go out there. I’m ready to go. They can boo me. I don’t care.” Like I I saw a dude’s tweet about how he wanted to be number one and that motivated me to go out there and prove that I’m number one. Not on Twitter, but on the field. Like I don’t know. I just don’t think in my lifetime that I mean Will I even mention Will, but Will, like Will wasn’t like that. So God, I’m excited, man. Please be good. I’m begging you, Cam. Please be good.
