HUGE AFC East News Impacts The Miami Dolphins + Under The Sun Takeaways | Dolphins News

[Music] I am Nick Rolloff. Welcome to Dolphins Today by Chat Sports where we have to recap a bunch of news that happened not in just the NFL but in the Dolphins division, the AFC East. Massive injury news on the New England Patriots and the New York Jets. We’re going to start with the Jets because their best offensive lineman and you could argue their best offensive player period. Elijah Vera Tucker suffered a potential serious injury and is likely going to miss a significant portion of time. He is a captain on this Jets football team and it feels increasingly likely according to the reports from Rousini Shfter Raport that he is going to be out for at least a month maybe which puts him out of play for Dolphins Jets in week four. Miami host New York on Monday Night Football. They obviously play him late in the year as well in week 14, but it does not sound like Elijah Vera Tucker is going to be there in Miami for that week four game. I don’t want to say this is a good thing for Miami because you never want to say an injury is good no matter if it is a division rival, but him not being there significantly tilts a lot of that game in Miami’s favor. I mean, the Jets offensive line, I would argue, is at best at best average. like they’re relying on a secondyear left tackle and Olu Fosanu who was very average last season and a rookie Garnet top 10 pick at right tackle and Arman Meu. You take a significant veteran Elijah Vera Tucker who’s top 10, top 15 at his position off of that offensive line and now you’re looking at that group as a bottom five offensive line in football. Who knows? Maybe Fanu and Meu ultimately are awesome as second year and first year guys. That’s very possible. But going into the year and especially in the first month of the season, that projects as a bottom five offensive line in football, which will only allow that matchup between Miami and New York to be in Miami’s favor. Considering the strongest point of this Dolphins football team is its defensive line and front seven. You just really look at what Barrett Tucker’s importance is to that Jets O line. Last season, according to Pro Football Focus, he graded out as a top 15 player at the guard position in almost every category. Overall grade, run blocking, pass blocking, and he was top three in hurries allowed and pressures allowed. Simply put, Elijah Vera Tucker is as elite as it gets at the offensive guard position. And with Miami having such a strong focal point of their team in their pass rush, whether it’s Cer, Grant, Chop, Chub, Phillips, Judon, they should be able to terrorize this New York Jets offensive line. And yes, Justin Fields is a mobile quarterback and he can maybe offset some of that by being able to make some people miss in the back field, scrambling around. That game should be one where Miami’s defense pins its hair back, gets after fields relentlessly, and we see the Dolphins hold the Jets to under 17 points. Like I know that is four weeks from now and we haven’t even seen this team play a real NFL game yet, but based off how poor that Jets offense is and they just lost their best player with Miami’s pass rush, I am expecting Miami to hold the Jets to a very low total in that game and pick up an easy win at home on Monday Night Football. More to come here, but make sure you subscribe and make sure you turn on your notifications as we are putting out two videos every single day. We also go live multiple times a week, so don’t miss that. And also later today, Wednesday afternoon, first official injury report for the week one game as well as a Dolphins Colts week one preview. So turn your notifications on so when we drop that video later today, you don’t miss it. The Jets is not the only team inside the AFC East dealing with a massive injury to their roster. And this player for New England, you could argue is just as important, if not more important to Elijah Vera Tucker. Christian Gonzalez, the third-year corner, is not practicing, at least early in the week for the Patriots, which means he might miss that week one game against the Las Vegas Raiders. And you might ask, well, that’s just for week one. Why are you talking about it for Miami? I’ll explain a little bit more here in a second, but Mike Vrabel on the Christian Gonzalez injury saying Christian and the team is not trying to be frustrated. These things happen. It’s how we respond to them. How hard we work to get back to communication in all the things he’s doing. Continue to work hard to get back and try to make sure we’re doing everything we can to help him. We’ll have to get him back to practice first and then we’ll have an update in status for Sunday. Well, folks, I think there might be a chance that Christian Gonzalez misses the Patriots Dolphins week 2 football game. And you might ask yourself, why do I think that? He’s been dealing with a hamstring injury. He’s been out for already a month now. Hamstring injuries can be tricky, but if he’s not back for week one against the Raiders, there is a legitimate chance he misses that week 2 game against the New England P or against the Miami Dolphins. Before we talk more about this potential injury, how it impacts Miami, which team do you hate more? I know my guy Brian AOK is going to be typing his NJ for the Jets. He can’t stand them. But I want to know, do you hate the Jets more or the Patriots more? Let me know your thoughts. The Patriots cornerback room is arguably the best in football. Like I I will say that as a unbiased viewer of the sport. When healthy, Gonzalz and Davis are absolutely elite. And then you have Marcus Jones who’s been a solid nickel corner for them over the past three years as well. So this is a strong point of their football team. But if you take Christian Gonzalez away from them and now you just have to rely on Davis and Marcus Jones, that cornerback room goes from top five in football to probably down below mid average. Like, and with Miami’s wide receiver core being so elite, deep, and dangerous, you could really start to project in week two that Miami takes the top off of that Patriots defense. And I mentioned it, Christian Gonzalez got hurt, that hamstring injury on July 28th. That’s a full month. And if Gonzalez really did miss week two against Miami, it would be massive for the Fins considering he is I I’ll say I think he’s the second best corner in football. I do. I think it’s Patrick Certan one. I think it’s Christian Gonzalez number two. I really believe he is that elite that we saw last season. now kind of take a look at some of his stats and really just hammer home the point of how good he is. But first, this episode is brought to you by Prize Pix. You and I make decisions on the daily, but with prize pics, you could turn those decisions into some serious cash if you are correct. And with prize pickics, it is good to be right. I was right this past weekend in college football. So, I am back this weekend with the first week of professional football as well as another week of college football. You can take more on Saquon Barkley, Joe Burrow, Tua, Tyreek Hill. It’s simple to play. You just pick more or less on two to six player stat projections. If you get your picks right, you could cash in. All it takes is 60 seconds to make your picks and turn your takes into cash all season long. This prize picks, join the millions of users and sign up today. I have an entry for the first game of the season on Thursday between the Eagles and Cowboys. First of all, take advantage of the discounted stat projection for Dak Prescott just needing one passing yard to hit the more there. I’m pairing that up with more than on Devonte Smith touchdowns. I think he gets one more than CD Lamb six and a half receptions in less than Javvante Williams rushing attempts. So, I think that the Cowboys are going to have to throw the ball a lot in this game because the Eagles probably dominate them. Download the app today and use code CLNS to get $50 in lineups after you play your first $5 lineup. That is code CLNS to get $50 in lineups after you play your first $5 lineup. Prize picks. It’s good to be right. I mean, you look back at what Christian Gonzalez did a year ago and his first full season. Remember, he got hurt after playing just four games as a rookie. He was elite in those four games, including a game against Miami uh on Thursday night. Uh was it Thursday or Sunday night? It was Sunday Night Football in week two for that game. Gonzalez shut down Tyreek Hill in that one. And he showed the promise that he has as a rookie and he backed it up with an unbelievable year in his second season. And I really do believe and I owe it’s hard to admit this because they’re our rival. He is the second best corner in football. It’s either him or Dererick Stingley behind Certam. I give the edge slightly to Christian Gonzalez. But over the conclusion of this topic, it feels like every team in the AFC East has suffered just a major injury before the season has begun. We talk about Elijah Vera Tucker for the Jets, Christian for the Patriots potentially holding him out of some time. For Miami, Kater Kohu, our top nickel coming into camp, he is out for the season. You look at the Buffalo Bills, their first round pick, Maxwell Haristen, the corner from Kentucky, he started the year on IR. He’s going to miss the first four weeks of the season. A player they project to start for them opposite of Christian Benford and Terron Johnson. And the reason why I’m bringing this back into a conversation and how it impacts Miami is because their first month of the season is loaded with divisional opponents. This is not a common thing across the NFL, but the Dolphins play each of their division rivals in the first month of the year. They obviously start this Sunday against the Colts, but then they have three straight divisional games with two of them being at home. So, the reason why we’re talking so much about injuries on other teams is because these do impact Miami. Gonzalez might not be available in week two against the Dolphins. Harrison won’t be available for my against Miami in week three. and Vera Tucker isn’t going to be available against the Dolphins in week four, allowing Miami, if they’re able to stay healthy through the first month of the season, to maybe have a positive injury development on their side for a change. Going to stop the injury talk and look to some under the sun takeaways. The Dolphins dropped a behindthe-scenes look at their training camp and preeason yesterday on their YouTube channel. I widely recommend going to watch it. Just about 25 minutes long. I watched it last night after it was released. And I have two main takeaways that I wanted to share with everyone in case you didn’t watch or just were curious about my thoughts on what we saw in that video. Number one is team chemistry. There is no doubt that the number one thing that was harped on in training camp otaas mini camp July August was the bonding in the chemistry of this team for crying out loud. The episode’s name was Bonded. That’s all they harped on. And I don’t think that’s a bad thing based off what we have heard from reports, leaks, and other players is that this locker room has been soft. They have been selfish and they have not been together over the last three seasons under Mike McDaniel, which has probably been the reason the team has collapsed when things got hard in November and December in the first two years of the SE under Mike McDaniel where Miami obviously started out unbelievably hot in both September and October. And I will read the tea leaves here. Javon Holland, Jordan Puyer, and Jaylen Ramsay. three starters on the Dolphins defense a year ago. They will not be missed, folks. And I am just coming to this conclusion on my own. No one said it, but if you read the tea leaves when it comes to Jordan Brooks, when it comes to Tua Tong of Aloa, what they said, Zack Celler about how this team is more close than it was in years past, they have better leadership on offense and defense holding each other accountable. The players that have departed from this Dolphins roster over the past, I’d say two years, I think will not be missed. Specifically, Jaylen Ramsay. It feels that is abundantly clear he was one of the players that was in it for himself, that was not showing up to meetings on time and was not allowing himself to be held accountable. Jordan Puyer, for Christ’s sake, goes and joins the Bills and immediately starts saying how he was even in the rival locker room keeping tabs on Buffalo last season. I mean, are you serious? And Javon Holland, like I I’m sorry, he’s just a loser. I I am not h I’m not sad about him leaving. I know he was really good for Miami the first couple years of his career, but I I think he was charming ultra soft, and that’s just my take. I know I some people might disagree and if Javon disagrees too, he might throw some shade at me if he watches this. But listen, that’s how I feel about the situation. It’s why Miami didn’t want to bring him back. Number two, Mike McDaniel. I hope I’m wrong, man. But he does not motivate me in the slightest. And I still don’t think he’s an elite leader at the head coach position. Like, they shared very minimal clips of McDaniel. He didn’t have any behind the scenes speaking to the cameras. That was left for Sealer. Aaron Brewer, Jordan Brooks, Alec Ingold, Tua. Shocker, by the way, five of your six captains. So clearly wanted to get the captains in front of the camera. But when they briefly showed a couple speeches McDaniel gave in the locker room and in the huddle, I just don’t feel the juice, man. And I think that’s important. McDaniel is a very smart offensive mind. There is no doubt about that. But in terms of commanding respect and leading men onto the football field every week, I just don’t think he does it at a good level, which is why I do believe that I don’t think McDaniel can lead this team to a Super Bowl anytime soon. I hope I’m wrong. I just don’t get the juice from McDaniel that I would like to have from my head coach. All right, those are my two major takeaways from the first episode. I don’t know if they’re scheduling out more episodes in the future. Um, I hope they do show some behind the scenes throughout the season for Miami. I think that’d be a lot of fun. Um, they labeled it episode one, hinting at maybe there’s more episodes to come. Um, but we’ll have to see. What was your biggest takeaway though? You obviously saw mine. And if you want more updates on the Fins, hit that sub button. Like I mentioned, we will have a video out later today with a week one preview in the first official injury report for Dolphins Colts in NFL week 1. Subscribe and don’t miss that video. [Music]

Alijah Vera-Tucker was a top 10 graded offensive lineman during the 2024 NFL Season by Pro Football Focus. The Jets will not have to rely on young lineman like Olu Fashanu and Armand Membou.

Christian Gonzalez is the top CB on the Patriots depth chart. The Patriots defense would need Marcus Jones and Carlton Davis to be the top 2 CBs against Miami in Week 2 if Gonzalez missed the Dolphins vs. Patriots game.

  2. Believe it or not: I have lived in CNY almost all my life and then Western Ny . Everyone LOVES the Bills in these places obviously. I live in Erie PA . They are still strong here but there's tons of Steelers and Browns fans here too. I have been to a handful of games in my life. Only 1 time did I see us in Miami. BUT IT WAS AGAINST DENVER LAST YEAR ON THAT SUPER HOT DAY IN SEPTEMEBER.FUCKIN AWESOMEEEE!!!!

  3. Geez where do I begin with this…Willy Fins it makes me laugh how you say you have no faith in McDaniel(and rightly so) but then criticize why some players were only in it for themselves and/or wanted to leave. Hot take here… those guys didn’t believe in McDaniel either. They were not inspired to sacrifice for him. Once some players know the team is ill prepared, ill lead, and ill managed, it’s every man for himself. Holland was absolutely making business decisions last season. Anyone with eyes could see that. After a couple seasons of injuries he said, I’m not risking my career for a numb nut like McDaniel. Holland, Ramsey, Jonnu, Lamm, Campbell and Tyreek all wanted out. And those are the only ones I know of. There were probably others. Some were able to maneuver an exit, some weren’t. All I hear is how everyone is so close now and they’re not soft as baby shit anymore. Well, we will see on the field. I think it’s just propaganda until I see results on the field.

  4. Hey man, new fan to the NFL and glad I landed on the dolphins. I’m born and raised in Florida and can’t wait to see them win. Thanks for all the coverage and making it easy to understand the current dolphins environment
