So, we’re super excited and hope you come out for that. John, the Angels won last night 5 to1 over the Royals. We’ve got a few takeaways from that game. The first is that Mitch Ferris made his MLB debut. Now, remember, he’s a lefty starter. He was acquired from the Braves for our buddy Davis Daniel back in December and he made his debut on the mound last night. 24 years old, 14th round pick of the Braves in 2023 out of Windgate University in North Carolina. second most strikeouts across DA this year. 142 22 starts, 23 games, 116 innings pitched, 4.27 erra, has a 1.46 whip, 8.9 hits per nine, 11ks per nine, 4.3 walks per nine, and8 home runs per nine. Johnny’s not an overpowering pitcher. His fast ball sits at about 90 to 92, but he has he has induced uh has a lot of vertical break on his pitches, which means that he can be very deceptive. And think about how uh the Angels couldn’t hit uh former Pittsburgh Pirate uh now current Dodger Andrew Heene’s fastball earlier this year, the game that I was at. I hated the fact that I had to be there to watch that. Uh this is this is similar with Mitch Ferrris. He can deceive pitchers, deceive hitters with his pitches even though he’s not throwing super hard. Yeah. Yeah. And it’s it’s almost a matter of like you think the ball’s going to go here, but it actually because of all the spin, it ends up in a different spot and so it gets hitters to swing right through it. And Mike, he pitched very well in this one. Five innings pitched, three hits, one earned run, two walks, three strikeouts on 70 pitches. 43 of those were strikes. got his first major league strikeout on Bobby Whit Jr. which is exciting. He did give up a triple of wit later in a sack fly drove him in. Mikey had four one pitch outs. Wow. In this one, including that sacrifice fly. Here’s a bit of a breakdown of Ferris’s arsenal. 31 four seam fast balls thrown. He sat about 89 to 93. Two swings and misses and four called strikes. 25 change ups about 76 to 79 mph. four whiffs on that and then 14 sliders between 80 and 83. Mike, you’re gonna love this and I’m gonna put this chart up for our video watchers. But on the audio side, I’ll describe it for you. Uh each pitch of the three that he threw, the foreseen, the change up in the slider has a color code on this graphic so that you can see what kind of pitch it was. And Mike, do you notice something there about Mitch Ferris and where he threw his pitches? Just I just want to get your reaction to this. I love it. It’s It’s fantastic. Fast ball up, John. Up in the zone. Something that you’ve said Kahanoitz needs to do and other pitchers need to do. Change up down in the zone. Slider, he kind of used the entire zone, was all over the place, and got a lot of swings and misses and a lot of ch uh chases on that. So, he pitched like pitching coach John would want him to pitch in this game. It looks like uh the front of a Skittles bag. all the red at the top, the yellow in the middle, and the green for the change up down below. And I just I love that what was good about his start, Mike, was that he didn’t seem overmatched. Didn’t seem like a rookie making his debut, right? We’ve seen Maderos do that this year. We saw Kaden Dana and Sam Dary do that last year. And and it felt like he had a plan. He induced soft contact. He was around the zone and uh he didn’t throw a ton of pitches, not a lot of strikeouts despite being the strikeout leader in the Southern League in DoubleA, but he will definitely get another look in this rotation because he pitched very well. Now, not saying he’s going to be the ace of the staff or anything like that, but when you get into the mind of a pitcher like this, you can just see that he he wasn’t scared and he had a plan of attack. And Mike, you mentioned last week, I think it was, we need guys with swing and miss in their game. And for him to be the strikeout leader in the Southern League, I think is a really good thing. We didn’t get to see a lot of that in this, but I think over his next, you know, maybe one or two outings in the time that we have left this season, I think that we could see more of that. Yeah, I want to see more of Mitch Ferris. I think getting a second start start would be great. I’d love to see if his confidence carries over to that start. Maybe the plan carries over to that start now that there’s a little bit of tape on him. Let’s see what happens with the opposing hitters and how they approach him. But I’d love to see a bit more from Mitch Ferrris for the rest of of September. John, second takeaway, the Royals do what the Angels don’t. Bryce Teodosio, he he let off an inning with a single. He stole second on a catch that Adam Frasier didn’t make at second base and then got to third on a Zack Neto ground out that Whit made an incredible play on by the way to throw Zack. I’m like, Zack, how come you didn’t beat that out? And then I saw the play again and I went, “Oh, that makes sense.” Cuz Whit made an incredible play. But then John Reanhifo and Monata, stop me if you’ve heard this before. They both strike out to end the inning. Another instance of a runner at third, less than two outs. He hustled to get there. A little bit of luck along the way and they can’t score. On the other hand, the Royals do it very differently. Bobby Wit Jr. tripled off of Mitch Ferrris with one out. And then my buddy Vinnie Pascantino, he hit a sack fly to left field to score wit and to make it one- nothing. So immediately got a runner at third and they didn’t waste any time. Productive out. That’s what they needed to do. And they don’t do that. The Angels don’t do that too often. Royals, that’s why they were able to take a lead in this game early on last night. Yeah. And then on the flip side, takeaway number three, the Angels do what the Royals don’t. In the sixth inning, Luis Ranhifo went the other way for a base hit. That was nice to see. Mike Joad Adele hits a two-run bomb. His 32nd home run of the year, 454 ft. That put the Angels up two to one. And Mitch Ferris was in line for the win after that because he left the game down one- nothing. But Mike, it’s it’s what the Angels do. Mhm. For better or worse, they hit home runs. They’re fifth in MLB coming into this game uh with home runs. And the Royals are 26th in the league. But the Royals are competing for a wild card spot while the Angels aren’t. However, it was good to see them get the lead on this one. Again, somebody on base, Joe Adell, driving him in uh with that two-run Yeah. home run. And then takeaway number four, Mike, the Angels do what they’ve should have been doing all year long. In the seventh inning, the Angels get two more runs uh on their lead. Chris Taylor hits a leadoff double. PZA hits a one-out double to score Taylor. They made it three to one Halos. Teodosio flies out to right and I didn’t think he could do it, but PZA tagged up and got to third base and that led to Zach Neto at the plate. Then there’s a pass ball and PZA is able to score on that pass ball. It made it 4 to1 Angels. So, we just got through saying, you know, the Royals do what the Angels don’t, which is productive outs, good base running, but this is the perfect example of the kind of ball that’s been missing from the Halos all see season long. Now, don’t get me wrong, we see it every now and then. We see it every now and then like we did in this game, glimpses, right? Uh but we also see moments like Teodosio getting the third and the Angels striking out. And that leads me to this point. The Angels have the most strikeouts in the league coming into Tuesday and it was 1,348. That’s 160 more than the second worst team, the Colorado Rockies. So again, we see glimpses. We see things here and there of guys hustling, doing the things that they should be doing on the base paths. young guys stepping up and coming through. But the strikeout is still a huge part of their game, as is the home run, which again, the home runs and the power, the symptoms of that are the amount of strikeouts that the Angels have put up this year. Yeah. And don’t don’t be deceived. The uh 1,348 strikeouts, it’s not all Mike Trout. Uh there it’s the entire team. Trout’s catching strays for me. And he didn’t even play last night, John. That’s our fifth takeaway. Uh he sat, but the young guys, they they stepped up. Mike Trout had a skin infection. So, that’s a big yikes. Hopefully, doesn’t he doesn’t he have scales? He doesn’t have skin. Come on. Come on. That was a good dad joke. Uh, but the team stepped up, John. And and specifically a lot of guys who are going to be around next year. Mitch Ferris, Jose Fine, Reed Demer, Luis Garcia, Kenley Jansen. Four hits and one run between them through nine innings. Ferris again picks up his his big win. Joe Adell hits that two-run home run. also a single and a double guy’s incredible and the other way too Mike that’s the that’s the key thereuge going the opposite field and so you know he’s batting cleanup something Ron Washington Washington didn’t want the young guys to be doing and and so I think Joe stepped up in a big way in this game and then PZA two for four a double again in this game he tagged up and he scored great read on a stolen base in the ninth inning John he’s kind of got a hot bat right now and maybe just a new change of scenery and new opportunity might help this guy become a bit better. They Angels have him for another four years because of arbitration. So he could be the next Louis Ranifo for this team. And then of course Teodosio sacked fly in the ninth that scored Taylor from third. It extended the lead five to one for the Angels. and he showed bunt before that which he has a he has a a part of a game that the Angels just haven’t had in this lineup for a really long time which is why I think that he is a really good option for the Angels in the future especially in 2026. Yeah, having Chris Taylor over there at third and then Todd Delio showing bunt, I was just like let’s go right like let’s Yes, exactly that right now. Even if you’re not going to bunt, keeping them like whoa, what is he doing? Like that changes the game, right? Immediately my mind doesn’t go to, okay, I’m gonna field this and I’m gonna throw it to first or I’m gonna get the runner. It goes to should I take a step in? What’s the coach telling me to do? I gota I got to play back. Oh, he’s showing bunt. Maybe I need to. Right. Like it immediately there’s there’s there’s ripples. There’s waves. You’re causing a little bit of white water, which is what the Angels haven’t done with their approach at the plate all year long. Yeah. It’s such a matter of getting into the head of the pitcher, but also the infield and the outfield. And like you said, it it causes a ripple effect even just by showing bunt and them expecting you to bunt and try to get that runner home from third, but then he swings away, right? And he does it in a productive way in the sense that he gets the sacrifice fly and the Angels were able to add that insurance run. Of course, you know, Luis Garcia, Kenley Jansen may or may not be around next year, but they were certainly part of what kept them in this game. And the Angels bullpen was just fantastic for me. Demer’s Garcia, Jansen. Jansen didn’t get a a save, but he uh had had one walk and then, you know, got the next three down. So, that was great to see. And the Angels walk away with the five to one win. Again, can you guys just save save this video to your to your brain, right? Like, save video of this game to your brain and just rewatch it and and keep doing what you’re doing. Uh in games like this, it’s just man, it’s it’s everything that they should have been all season long. It’s disappointing that it’s been more the other way more often than not. Thanks for making Lockdown Angels your first listen of the day. Coming up, we’re in for a wild ride. We’re going to try to get inside the mind of Ry Marino. What is he thinking as the Angels head into 2026? We’ll get into all of that coming right up. Everydayers, are you still paying full price for gas and leaving money behind? You you need to stop that. John and I are here to do the dirty work for you. We’re going to get into the mind of Arty Moreno and we know that that’s difficult and we’re going to shower afterwards. But for today, we’re going to try to discuss what we think he might be thinking right now. So, here’s how it’s going to work. I’ll ask John a question. He’ll answer it based off of what he thinks Arty is thinking. And then he’s going to ask me a question. And then I’ll answer it based on what I think Arty is thinking. And this is going to be interesting. and we’re going to try to speak on behalf of Arty. We’re going to try to not be insulting or dismissive. We’re just literally going to try to be Arty Moreno in this moment. So, I’m going to start with John and asking the first question. John is already aware of what the fans think about him and how do you know that he knows what we think or how do you know that he doesn’t know? Mike, the the biggest evidence out there for Arty Marino to know how fans feel about him is the fact that he said, “Oh, it’s a vocal minority. The vocal minority is displeased with with us and the team and da da da da da.” And we know that getting to him and his ego is the quickest, most efficient way to make him want to sell the team. Honestly, I know a lot of people say, “You got to stop going to games. You got to stop patting his pockets. You got to stop buying merch. You got to stop buying tickets.” That’s fine. If that’s you, you do you, boo boo. But the fact is, Mike and I have never said how to fan. We never told people how to be a fan. And when it comes to getting at Arty Marino, the one pathway is through his ego. Case in point, do you remember last year when the Angels had a uh calling all angels opening video? I think it was during spring training technically because it was the Dodgers Angels practice freeway series. I don’t think it was the home opener. And they played calling all Angels. And when Arty Marino came on the screen, everybody, I think even Dodger fans, everybody in that stadium booed at RD Marino and his image on the screen. And Mike, the very next night, the very next day, the very next game, who was edited out of that montage of calling all angels with Arty Marino in it? Arty Marino was edited out of the video because he didn’t want to be booed again. Mike, it is 110% The way you get to Arie Marino is through his ego. So, he knows and that’s the evidence for it. The fact that he said it’s a vocal minority and the fact that in a stadium full of Angels and Dodgers fans, he got booed and he’s out the next day. You can’t not tell me that he wasn’t aware of the way fans feel. You can’t tell me that he wasn’t aware of the fact that they booed him specifically because who who then says, “Hey, get Arty out of that video.” Somebody had to. Whether it was him or somebody else, somebody said, “Hey, get Arty out of that video because we don’t want him to be booed again.” and and maybe he was aware of it, maybe he wasn’t, but the fact remains if if he’s that sensitive to it that he has to be taken out of the video, then I think that he is well aware of the fan sentiment for his ownership and what he’s done to this team. Second question, I’m going to toss this to you, Mike. Does Arty believe that he’s done everything he can to help this team competitive? And if so, what does he think that he’s done? What do you say? I think he does believe that he’s helped this team to be competitive. He’s done everything that he can based off of two comments. One, he made a comment about the Padres’s without naming the Padres’s that they had to go into debt to be able to afford and take out loans to be able to afford their team. And and so how much debt does a team need to get to be able to be competitive was kind of his point, right? And then the second thing that he said is I’m going to lose 50 to$60 million this year. I mean, how much do you need to pay to be able to It’s all about the money. Again, that’s why I think he thinks that he’s been uh good for this team and helping them to be competitive. I think he feels like I’ve spent money. I mean, we signed you say Kikuchi. Wh why would that not be a good thing, right? And obviously as fans, we know the reasons, right? We know that the money was spent on what we didn’t need based upon uh uh the evidence of that. we weren’t spending money on what we did need like development and minor leagues and getting the right guy instead of getting some guy and that’s been the biggest difference. So I think that Arty does believe that he has done everything he can to help this team be competitive and I think he’s probably really frustrated right now to be honest with you which brings us to the third question. I’m going to throw it to you John. How does Arty feel about Perry and the job that he’s done currently in this season? Yeah, I I think that he’s okay with what Perry Minosian has done. Now, Arty Marino said something that I think nearly gave us all a heart attack back in spring training of this year, and that’s, hey, we want to be competitive in 2025, but we want to think beyond 2025 and how we can compete in 2026. Mike, that tells me that he’s pleased with the fact that Perry has got guys like Zach Neto and Nolan Shaowell and Logan O’Hap and Reed Deetmers and Joseé Soraniano, right? He’s pleased with the job that Perry has done. One, because the last two GMs didn’t do it, right? The last two GMs did not yield the kinds of players that are rising through the ranks that you can get on the cheap. And I think that’s also why he appreciates what Perry Manosian has done. he’s been able to get young guys like Joe Adele and Zach Neto be who they are and you know have them rise through the ranks. I know I know Adele was an Eper pick but what I’m saying is you you fill your team with young guys who don’t cost very much at this moment and are also being productive. That is, you know, in Arty’s book a win because it doesn’t cost that much. He doesn’t have to buy his Josh Hamiltons or his Albert Puhol or his Anthony Rendones. He can rely on these young guys who he sees as getting better and better each year. And that should be the expectation, right? Like like Joe Adell took a step forward last year and then he’s taken a huge step forward this year and the expectation should be all right, maybe he can match that or be better than that next year. That’s that’s what we would want, right? Especially for young players. So, I think that he’s pleased with the job that Perry has done. Now, if he’s going to kind of dumb it down and simplify it and make it about win wins and losses, then I think he’s missing the forest for the trees, right? And and so, you know, Perry might be uh his job might be compromised for next year. I know that he’s got the extension through next year, but Art’s the one that gave it to him and Arty’s the one who controls the budget and Perry worked within the means that he’s been given to where he has to get guys like you say Kikuchi and Tyler Anderson a few years ago, right? He’s he’s doing everything he can inside Arty’s playground. And I think Arty is all right with that. Fourth question. When Arty said to Perry, “Make a run for the playoffs,” what do you think he thought that meant? He thought that meant we’re going to make a run for the playoffs and we’re going to do that based off of what sort of resources I’ve provided for you because I think Arty in his mind says, “Yeah, I’m spending money. Yeah, I’ I’ve given you everything that you need.” Right? And so I’m I’m of course I’m going to do this. It’s like sending your kids to the movies back in the day, right? And and you’re going to say, “Well, you need money for the ticket and some snacks, right?” So, what would end up happening based upon just, you know, the Super Halo Bro family is we would get money for a ticket and then maybe we could get some candy, but we couldn’t get a slurpee, right? Like, and so that’s kind of the situation that Arty has provided for Perry is he’s like, “Of course I want you to make a run for the playoffs.” So, here’s 20 bucks. Here’s 20 bucks. You got to make it stretch, right? And that’s the thing. And so, I think he really wants to make the playoffs, but he gave him 20 bucks and said, “Stretch it.” And Perry, I think, did a good job of of stretching it. John, last question. What’s the plan for 2026 in Arty’s mind? Yeah, I don’t think he knows. I don’t think he knows what the plan is. The The one thing that we can bet on is that they are going to try to make more money than they spend, right, Mike? The bottom line is always first and foremost with Arty Marino and John Carpino and this ownership group. Uh, and the fact is their their number one priority is making sure that they have one more scent than they spent that they’re in the in the positive at the end of the season. And so, look, if if being in the positive means that they have to extend somebody like Zach Neto because Zach Neto is a draw for Angels fans to come to the stadium and see him play. I mean, that’s that’s Arty’s mindset at the end of the day, isn’t it? Come to the come to the stadium and see these great players play their game. But we want to win. We want to win playoff games. We want to get to the playoffs. We want to win championships, right? Like, yeah, I know playoffs are literally a crapshoot once you get there. You know, anybody can win a five game set or a seven game set, but just give us a chance to get there. And and I don’t think Arty understands that. It’s more about the entertainment value, and he’s proved that over and over and over again. But like I said, the comments about being competitive this year and then expanding on that into 2026, maybe that gives me a sliver of hope. Maybe I’m dumb and naive because of that question, but or that comment, but um it seems like if anybody’s convinced Arty to change his ways from the last 15 years of operation where it’s, you know, go get the big free agent, go get the name on the marquee. I think it’s Perry Minosian um because the young guys have yielded so much success. We’ll see what that does uh as the 2025 off season approaches and what Angels the Angels front office and RD Marino will do. And of course, we invite you to be part of this conversation as well. Uh, the best place to do that, again, find today’s show on YouTube, get in the comments section. Whether you’re watching or listening, you can still get in on the comments section. But Mike, if you and I were in charge, what would we do right now to make this team better? How about you start us, my brother? Yeah, there’s a lot that we could do, right? And there’s a lot of obvious things that we could do. I was trying to not be so obvious. And one of the things that kind of came to mind, John, was I would I would hire really talented coaches. Yeah. I would bring in some of the top-notch terrific kind of coaches. I would I would not be on the cheap when it comes to that. I feel like that’s one of the reasons why these players struggle with approach and try to swing for the fences and strike out a lot, right? And I I get like Johnny Washington can be complimented for some of the growth that we’ve seen, but he also can carry the brunt of of the weight for a lack of production productive outs and production at the plate. But I think I would I would really prioritize hiring some really top-notch coaches and get a really qualified manager like a Buck Sho Walter. I think somebody like a Buck Sho Walter could come in here and really do an excellent job with this team and squeeze out all of what’s inside of each of these players. He’s proven to be able to do that with teams in the past. I know he doesn’t have a winning record once he gets to the playoffs, but he is somebody that helps the team to be successful to at least get to the playoffs and I think that he could be somebody that could help this team take the next step and then perhaps you move on from Buck and you get somebody else. I know Wash was kind of in that vein, but Wash is not wired like Buck Shoalter. Wash is a guy who says, “Run through that wall for me.” Right? Buck’s like, “Open the door. Walk through the wall and let’s win this game.” Right? Like, and I think that that’s what this team needs. They need manager that is going to help them to continue to develop, and they need coaching that’s going to identify some things and go, “Hey, Trout, you’re uh you’re closing yourself off. Uh, hey, hey, Reed, you need to throw that fast ball and throw it more often. Uh, hey, hey, Kenley, you’re doing great.” Right? Like, I mean, they need a coach that’s going to be able to identify those things, including the hitting and the offense. And so right now the thing that I would do is I would hire a top-notch quality manager and I would surround this team with top-not top-notch quality coaches and I think I’d keep Barry in right. That’s what I would do. I do like Barry and Right. Yeah. Okay. So, I’m going to piggyback off you and say that if I was in charge, I want to see better communication to the players in the sense that how many times on this show, especially this season, have we identified issues, you know, holes in somebody’s swing or, you know, uh we we’ve brought up, you know, pitching issues, right, where, hey, you’re you’re really good on the edges of the zone. here’s what you need to be doing and d like Mike for you and I to sit here as fans with a podcast. Yeah, it takes a little bit of digging, right? I got to get into fan graphs. I got to get into statcast. But all the answers to the angels problems are out there, right? And for them to continue to have the same issues all season long when the answers are right there in front of them. It’s available to you. It’s available to me. It’s available to all of our everydayers, right? All the information is out there. I think the breakdown is the Led Zeppelin communication breakdown, right? Like I think the breakdown is good. the answers that are out there are either not getting to the players or are not being communicated to the players well and correctly. You and I joke on this show that oh, Perry Manosian must have been listening or Mike Trout must have been listening because he did this last night, right? But how often do we identify the issues that are going on at the plate or on the mound and and scream into our microphones like if they only did this this one way, it would actually benefit them. And I just feel like if you and I can see that, but whoever is in charge of, I don’t know, the the data team or the analytics team or what have you, they’re not communicating it well, they’re not communicating it correctly. And maybe that’s on the coaching too, Mike, because you know, a lot of people say, “Why aren’t the best hitters and the best pitchers in MLB coaches and teachers?” Well, it’s because sometimes they don’t communicate well. Mhm. And that’s why you have a guy like Barry Enright who, yeah, he pitched in the majors, had a fine career. It’s all about communication. It’s all about how you get the information to the players. Somewhere along the line, I think the answers that are obviously out there and within reach for how to fix this guy or get this guy to do this thing a little bit differently, all of that stuff is out there. In fact, I guarantee you for as much as we pile on the Angels for not having, you know, the the the kinds of teams that maybe, you know, the Rays do or the Dodgers do in terms of, you know, the behind-the-scenes data guys. I guarantee you the Angels have more access and more capabilities than Mike and I do on our laptops looking at Fan Graphs, looking at Baseball Savant, looking at Statcast. I guarantee you the Angels have more at their disposal than we do. But something’s not getting through. Something’s missing. Something’s missing. All right. And and I think that’s where I would start, Mike, is that the information and everything that’s available to teams, coaches, players, all of that management, it’s all there. Mhm. But we don’t always see it implemented. We don’t always see it through, and we don’t always see it communicated correctly, if at all. And so I would hope that the Angels could buckle down and find somebody or a team to just communicate what players can do differently, what they can do better, what they do well, because you need to enhance their successes, right? You need to dial that up a little bit if they’re succeeding in one area. But the fact remains is that I think there’s a communication breakdown somewhere along the chain of command from, you know, the number nerds in the offices down to the field. And I think that that could greatly be improved and not step on anybody’s toes, right? We know SOA and Dotto didn’t get along because he felt like Dota was trying to make him be something that he wasn’t, right? That’s not what I’m saying. I’m not saying that you need to force anybody’s hand here. What I am saying is communicate that well. Be part of the solution. Don’t butt heads. Don’t create problems by, you know, telling Ron Washington, well actually you should tell this guy to do it this way. Like don’t do that, right? Yeah. Be part of the solution and bring those solutions to the table because again, the answers are all out there. It’s all about how you communicate them. Thanks for making Lockdown Angels your first listen of the day. College football fans, Locked On and Fire TV present College Football Kickoff, your ultimate college football weekly preview show. Drake toll of Locked On Big 12 leads the conversation alongside two-time AP coach of the year Gary Patterson and former college star Jesse Holly and of course our Locked On experts are going to be there as well. A college football preview show that only Locked On can do. You can catch the show every Thursday throughout the season on Fire TV. Hey, be sure you give us a follow on Twitter, Lockdown Angels, and connect with Mike and myself on Twitter and Instagram at Super Halo Bros. Again, whether you’re watching or listening, come on over, let us know what you would do. The first thing you would do, maybe it’s changing the dang team name back to Anaheim where they belong, right? And actually making amends with the city. That would be my second thing uh that I would do. But Mike, what do we have on deck for Thursday’s show? Well, you know, I’m feeling coachy, John. You feeling coachy? Uh so feeling coachy. What we’re going to do is talk about what the angels are trying to do to help Jack Kohanowitz get better. And then you and I are going to share what they should do. And so we’re going to talk about that tomorrow on Locked on Angels. All right. Looking forward to that conversation and we hope you’ll come back and join us. Until then, my name is John. And that’s my brother Mike. And my name is Mike. And that’s my brother John. Thanks for being here with us everybody. And we’ll see you back here on Thursday. Breakdown. Oh, that’s that’s Tom Petty. That’s Tom Petty. Come on. Communication breakdown.
What did the Los Angeles Angels do in their win vs. the Kansas City Royals that we wish they would have been doing all season? On Today’s Locked On Angels, the Super Halo Bros. give you the takeaways from last night’s win, including the excellent debut of Mitch Farris on the mound, Jo Adell’s big night, and a brand of baseball spurred by Oswald Peraza and Bryce Teodosio that we wish we would have seen them play more often! Plus, what do we think Arte Moreno is thinking heading into next season, and does he know his reputation among fans? We’ll venture our best guesses, as well as offer the first changes we would make if we were in charge!

Let’s go halos it’s at least a big improvement from last season. Let’s continue to improve every year
Quick Hitters…
1. Mitch Farris- Congratulations on your 1st start and win. Most of us probably forgot we traded Davis Daniel for you last December. Is it too early for the "Save Farris" humor?
2. Chad Stevens- Another one we probably forgotten also this season. I would have preferred bringing him back instead of Kingery. He was playing 2B for and did pretty good from what I recall.
3. Adell- Let him be in RF here on out permanently. Let him continue on his swag the rest of the year. Number 32 was a 454 foot blast should keep everyone quiet about his power. Maybe top it off with a 40/40 next season.
4. My changes for next season- I'm firing everyone from the coaching staff from top and the bottom except Enright. He is the only one to petition to stay. Numbers Nerd Analytics and even the strength and conditioning staff. Some might believe I'm too harsh. This is all necessary to change the culture of this team.
if they end up with a better record than my early season prediction of 72-90, i’ll be satisfied. i truly have no idea how guys like Ferris and Dana and Klassen have been in the minors all season while Kochanowitz gets opportunity after opportunity. just as a reminder, Kochanowitz has ZERO redeeming factors as a pitcher. he’s just awful in almost every single category and area of pitching. many of our pitchers in triple A are just CLEARLY better than him, so i don’t understand why we waited until SEPTEMBER to realize that and start giving other guys their opportunity. Ferris looked great. he got lucky in some instances on hard hit balls and crushable pitches, but this was an EXCELLENT debut. i’m really glad Adell hit that homer so that he could have his first career win on his first career MLB start. hope he stays in the rotation until the end of the season! it might take him a while to become an actual solid piece in the rotation, but this guy has so much more potential than some of these guys we’ve brought up before. Nice job Ferris 🫡
I’m so happy for Mitch Ferris great outing in his very first mlb game and they pulled a w that game must have been very special for Mitch ferris
We're better this year. Anyone else remember last year? Lol. We let Detmers start again. Get another starter. Refill the bullpen and get a 3rd baseman and a CF. That's not unreasonable. Teams have seen Angels be scary and easier for them to come next year.
Love that Bryce was going to bunt with a runner at 3B. He is a perfect fit as a top defense CF with speed and hitting 9th is perfect. I would like to see Peraza finish the season at 3B because Moncada is not the future and gets hurt way too much. Still can't believe they sent Moore back to AAA when he is also the future at 2B. He also needs to play every game at 2B the rest of the season. Lugo is a perfect fit to play in LF until Ward returns. Bottom line let the kids play the rest of the way to see what we have for next season.
The Soler and Stevenson deals are on GMPM. Those are fireable decisions.
If Soriano had been with the Brewers/Guardians/Rays, he would have been an all star if not a Cy Young contender. It feels like all our pitchers who are performing are doing so inspite of the Angels system and not because of it.
LOA Great job today. Yes the Angels continue to lead the majors in offensive strikeouts. Jon and Mike this brings me to another stats. The Angels also lead the majors leagues in walks allowed. They've walked 526 the second place team is White Sox with 515.
This brings me to this. Why haven't we promoted Michael Wuertz to be our pitching coach from AA Trash Pandas? The facts are look ar Jack, Caden, Seth, and etc. He seems to be our ONLY pitching coach that can keep these right.
I am not longer an Enright fan. Barry doesn't seem to be able to keep our staff afloat and improving. Look at Kikuchi, Jack, Tyler, and etc. My first move promote Wuertz. Other than that I can agree with Mike. I'd still rather have Yadi over Buck. Great show gentlemen.
I was at the.game last night. Nice to see the young guys coming through.
Engaging show today. Questions: Do we believe the team loses $50-$60m? If not, ok. If so (or a true loss of any amount), should an owner have an obligation to fund losses? Lastly, other than setting financial limits, do we think Moreno makes routine baseball decisions? These are questions I asked Marlins fans, as well. They set a foundation for how we fans understand team and owner F.O. dynamics.
Only hope I have as a lifelong charger fan as well is the transformation from Spanos. He was cheap and at times also worse than Arte. Then he saw the frustration from the fans and went to get Harbaugh, built an amazing training facility, and invested in coaches/ trainers. Only hope I have being a fan of these two damn teams lol
Being competitive and winning a championship are two different things. Arte needs to be all in if theAngels are to return to glory.
Arte is just petty. He probably saw how happy fans were when he initially put the team on sale that he decided not to sell in spite. I also don’t believe he is losing the $50+mil, I think he is making $50+mil less than what he is used to making on a yearly basis and he’s counting it as a loss.
They can get a Buck or keep Ron, but that’s the extent of the talent that Moreno will be willing to spend on because that’s what most fans see, and coaches don’t bring in revenue/star power. Though, great coaching , scouting, and development spending would probably cost less than one year of a superstar player.
Hey Arte 🗣️ Boo!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You were right about Adell, 30HR+. You could tell Ward wanted to play, meanwhile Trout will be out another two weeks. Only 5 more years of Trout.
Nice to see an Angel pitcher working both sides.
So nice, watching a "trout less" Angel's game!
It's amazing what you can accomplish when you have solid pitching with timely hitting. Fantastic
Awesome show guys! It’s such a great thing to listen to you guys every morning talk about my Angels, good or bad, it’s just nice to have other super fans to listen to!
Thanks for keeping it real. Moreno sucks! Trout no longer hungry 🤷🏻♂️. The Angels highly depressing .
You guys are uplifting 😁👍🏻!
8:24 I’d much rather be last in HR if it meant being above .500 right now.
Why did Jansen pitch?
Nice win 😅big game for adell… great pitching and timely hitting 😅
This is so funny…… Being Arte….. Being John Malkovich 😂
