Season Preview: Blackwood Aims to Be the Avalanche’s Backbone in Goal

  1. Being the day 1 starting goalie for a “cup or bust” team might be one of the most mentally challenging things in all of sport. We have very recently seen it destroy a career. I do have higher hopes for Blackwood (and Wedgewood) but it is going to be interesting to watch this year.

  2. Momentum is a powerful thing and when you pair that with the best ability you can offer, availability, you can use these 2 stepping stones to snowball deep into the season. I believe Mack is going to repeat his home games point streak performance from a couple of seasons ago, with Landy, Nuke and everyone available from the start of training camp and into the season, this Avs group has a chance to put up an insane level regular season.

Hopefully not at the cost of burning out for the playoffs although I would like to see Mack try a little harder to snag an Art Ross if he’s ending the year with it in his grasp again. I know he likes to relax before playoffs but by the end of the year getting a couple points per game on the power play should be a damn near guarantee, at least if they appropriately fixed the Power play. Tampa just feeds Kucherov 2-4 pt games at will because they can turn the Power Play on at almost anytime they want.

  3. We have one of the best one/two punches between the pipes in the league. We have a (knock on wood) pretty healthy lineup headed into training camp. 🖕 injury bug, go away. Oh, and the roster is fairly stacked… all we need now is the return of “All the small things”🫡

  4. Yep. I’ve been thinking the same thing. This tandem on paper should be better than Kuemper and Francouz. I have a lot of hope. 🙂
