  1. If you want to win a baseball game, generally you’re going to want to score more than 1 run while keeping the other team from scoring 5 runs

  2. really dont understand the need to keep trotting out Ben Brown in close game situations. dude sucks balls

  3. It feels like Craig is content with the first wild card spot rather than gunning for the division cause why tf did he pull Horton throwing a no hitter with only 75 pitches? Can’t “save” him in crucial games that need to be won.

The lineups he’s been putting out have also made me think this is what he’s thinking.

  4. Cade was never gonna finish the game so him getting pulled after five wasn’t egregious. Craig gets blasted for letting guys go too long, so I didn’t hate letting Cade ending things on a high note.

Just a bummer that the offense really left no margin for error since our pen seems to shaky outside or Thielbar and Keller (and Palencia in save situations). Can’t ride those three every night. Pomeranz and Taylor didn’t exactly shine in their appearances, so I’m not sure if they would’ve held the lead if they’d been used before Brown.

  5. Did people see the lineup and not temper their expectations lol. The real bad part is having Ben Brown on the roster pitching meaningful 1 run games in September

  6. I’d rather focus on the positives than seriously dwell on this loss, including:

    > This start might’ve had Horton usurp Baldwin as the NL ROY frontrunner, as he now has an incredible sub-0.80 ERA since the All Star Break which is by far the best in the NL

    > Following a tumultuous start of August, the Cubs are 5-1 in their last 6 series (1 sweep, 1 got swept)

    > The Cubs are currently 9.5 games up in the Wild Card with 25 games left to play and hold most tiebreakers

    > Also, that guest announcer did pretty good, even if his announcing was more geared for radio

  7. Taking two out of three against under .500 teams and one run victories doesn’t feel good to me

  8. I absolutely love when Counsell brings in Hodge and Brown just to solidify that we have no shot of a sweep. fuck

  9. The lack of power hitting on this team is unreal… Will Suzuki or PCA ever hit a homer again?

  10. I worry about this team in the post season because they seem to have trouble building momentum. Win 2 or 3, then lose. It’s tough to get far in the playoffs if you can’t string more wins together.

  11. Would’ve liked to have won this one but can’t complain about 2 of 3. Seems like it’s really hard for this team to build any momentum.

  12. Yeah it sucks to lose a game where they took a no hitter into the 7th. However take a look back at the series and you realize we could have easily been swept. Came back from 5 down to win in 10 innings, scored 4 runs in one inning then didn’t score again and hung on by a hair to win 4-3. Winning 2 out of 3 ain’t bad.

That said the offense is still scuffling to a degree. Over the last 18 innings they’ve scored in 2 of them. The lack of power has been striking. Since the All Star break PCA has 3 homers and Seiya has 2.
