Angels vs. Royals Game Highlights (9/3/25) | MLB Highlights

There’s rookie right hander Ryan Berger his 13th career start his sixth start with the Royals since the trade. He’s been terrific in each of his five times out there so far. There’s that sweeper that Berger has been using a lot since joining the Royals and he uses it to get his first strikeout one up, one down. Moncada sends one the opposite way and Michael Massey runs it down with a breeze coming in behind him. A two O walk. Good to see Taylor back in this lineup. Odell will hit here in the first innings him. You guessed it? The sweeper, a couple of K’s on that pitch for Berger in a scoreless first, still just 21 years old and Dana back on a big league mound here tonight, mike Yastrzemski is the batter swing and a miss on a good changeup from Dana eight pitch at bat and that’s out number one. So here’s Bobby Witt jr. He was one for three in last night’s game and it looks like Bobby’s just fine. So he becomes the Royals first baserunner. He hit 258. He’s homered 28 times with a big lead there goes, we throw to second. It’s a good one and it’s in time is great throw by OPI quick to the plate. Perfect pitch to throw a seed to second base. Two balls, two strikes and there is strike three on a fastball at the bottom of the zone. Good inning for Kate and Dana back in the big leagues. Two strikeouts in a scoreless first out for Beger. He did go that time. Berger doubles up on the sweeper. It is a nine pitch 123 2nd. We’re still looking for the game’s first hit. Both teams have each had one baserunners punch to the right side and over pass. Entin a base hit, served it in contact, swing in the right field for a base hit. Here’s Teodosio, a bigger part of his game. Here’s kind of a swinging bunt here move the runner over in that instance, Cara goes to second base, got him with the sweeper that’s working for him and he gets netto for a second time at second base with two down and here’s Yoan Moncada takes off for third, draws a throw and he is safe head first dive and that helmet might have come down onto the bridge of his nose comfortable in that slide right away. He put his hand up, took a chance with two outs more than anything just to see if that throw would be wild and was able to steal the base or Perez with a good throw man on third changes your thought process with that nasty breaking ball swaying and a pop up left side. Garcia goes to the line behind third base and makes a fair ball catch and ryan Berger works around the leadoff single. The Royals are still looking for their first hit against K and Dana, that’s a player shallow left center and it finds grass, make a six game hitting streak for Michael Massi Leon gets a nice ovation as he is. Welcome back. Take the walk. You go on four pitches no less and the Royals have two on with nobody out. See what Kyle Isbell does with a couple on and nobody out. We know he can bunt that’s for sure. Move the runners up any way you can gets the bunt down first base side, it goes off his Bell’s helmet and to right. Massey’s in Leone gets held at third. The Royals catch a break on a throw and take a 1 to 0 lead. Try to move the runners and give up yourself and you end up getting a break right there pretty close to the 2nd and 3rd. Nobody out and Mike Yrs into right field Adle lines it up. He’s got it. Cagle tagging comes home and it’s 2 to 0 doing the little things is what’s going to make the Royals get back in there, no doubt about that. The Royals have a runner at third with one out and Bobby Woot Jr at the plate and the infield comes all the way in bouncer right to Rani that will hold the runner at third for the moment two outs and now it’s past Pitino struck out his first time left center Dana able to minimize the damage here. Blue Pit a walk and error as sack fly to get a couple of runs home for the Royals. Brian Berger in his previous five Royal starts, he’s gone at least five and a third in every start and he’s given up two earned runs or fewer in every start and a swing and a and he strikes him out with a fastball number six on the night for Berger three and one on a solid Michael Massey is two for two. That’s the first clean hit we’ve seen all night Massey with a leadoff base hit. Now it’s Cag Leone who drew a four pitch walk his first time up and came around to score. That is a called third strike and it was in there just above the knees. Cag Leone is out looking the strikeout for Dana’s number four in this game and with one out and one on Kyle is Bell will be in the next batter bounced up the middle right on top of the bag at second. It’s a double play to end the rolled along two times through the order. It’s 2 to 0 Royals after 52 to 0 Royals now to the sixth and Netto takes down and away and he’s on with a leadoff walk and here comes matt Quatre. That’s it for ryan Berger. He throws five innings and faces one batter in the sixth. Matt Quatre takes the baseball. John Schreiber is coming in to face Yoan Moncada runner on first. Nobody out. John Schreiber has an inherited runner. He has been terrific when it comes to stranding runners. Angels face Schreiber last night , he gave up a couple of hits and a couple of runs Garcia with a snare on the dive to his feet , not in time. And Michael Garcia had to make a diving play to his right and there was nothing more he could do. He made a diving play, it stuck in his glove and the throw was on target but just a little late infield hit for Moncada two on with nobody out now for Taylor Ward called strike three that is painted on the corner. A perfect pitch for a huge first out joe Adell center field hit by Adele is Bell’s back still going at the wall that’s gone. Joe Adle for a second straight night hits a home run in the sixth inning to give the Angels the lead. It has been a tough couple of nights for john Schreiber. The infield hit after the pitching change three run homer and the Royals trail for the first time tonight. Three to two Angels with one out in the bottom of the seventh and here’s Salvador Perez over the bag and fair into the left field corner, Salvi chucks for second Taylor’s throw Reds tag. That could be just what the Royals need to kick start. The offense. That is a milestone double for Salvador Perez, his 625th career extra base in tied for third most in Royals history with Royals Hall of Famer. Frank White. Salvi exits for a pinch runner, Tyler Tolbert now carries the potential tying run with his legs. Royals down 3 to 2 bottom of the seventh and there’s another clutch. Adam Frazier delivers the Royals have tied it in the seventh. An RB I double for adam Frazier runner at third for joe Adell. He has been a problem for the Royal in the first two games of this series. Bounce off a short charges. Bobbles can’t make the play and right after tying the game at three, the Royals once again trail by a run is gets to second potential tie a run in scoring position, potential, go ahead run at the plate swing and a miss strike three going to have to throw it to first base, get it there to retire with a big strikeout for andrew Chafin Chases should pitch down to strike out Pasquin a chance to tie the game. Chafin Pasquin Kyle is belt at second tying runner in his hip pocket swing and a miss strike three. Pasquin went fishing and andrew Chafin who certainly seems to know his way around the fishing pole got Paquin to go after one tie run stranded the Angels. Keep the league and the Royals are down to their final out swing and a miss strike three, a deflating loss for the Royals who have dropped this series and have lost back to back games.

  1. What's the Angels' Playoff contention?

Wild-card elimination number: As of September 4, 2025, the Angels have a Wild-Card elimination number (E#) of 17. That means it would take 17 more losses by the Angels or combined losses and wins by other Wild-Card hopefuls—enough to mathematically end any path to the playoffs.

Division elimination: They're already mathematically eliminated from winning the AL West division as well.

    Probability Outlook

CBS Sports data shows the Angels are 6.5 games behind the last Wild-Card spot, occupying a position well outside the contention range with less than 1% postseason probability.

    In Summary

    As of September 4, 2025:

The Angels are eliminated from the AL West division race.

There remains a faint mathematical chance via the Wild-Card, but they're on the brink: just 17 more losses (or equivalent losses by others) will seal their fate.

Realistically, their playoff chances are under 1% barring a dramatic turnaround.
