A’s vs. Cardinals Game Highlights (9/3/25) | MLB Highlights
Matthew Liberator. I’m excited for this kid, man making his 26th start of the season 50th start of his big league career. He’s been checking off first all season long. This is wire to wire as a starter in the big leagues. Look, there have been some highs , there have been some lows, but I think that he’s learned a lot five strong innings for him last time out against Cincinnati gave up a pair of homers, but we talk to the slider has been good. Been working on that thing consistently riding the fastball. Hopefully, we see both of those things today and Matthew Liberto have a chance to face shane langeliers, who’s the player of the month for the American League 21 pitched to langeliers is hit in the air to right field and Jordan walker moves back. He’s drifting back a little more and settles under it. That ball carried wilson eight for his last 21 inning. 3, 15, 32 on the ground is short. Mason gobbles that up and a strike two up and two men down 2 to 2 pitch is a called strike three. Libby painted on the outside corner and a good first inning for the Cardinal left hander Matthew Liberto, Jeffery Springs will take the ball. He’s looking for a, for the first time in a while. He gives it up for the first three an awful lot. Let’s go ahead and take advantage of that trend. You mentioned some of the home run issues 26 given up for the veteran spring. So maybe the Cardinals can get something in the air early. Now, the 22 pitch to win is a hard grounder good recovery by Gello to his left throws to first one away. So already some flashing defense from spring strikes out Yvonne herrera first strikeout of the game for Jeffrey and two are away quickly. 12 pitch slow roller to the second baseman will scoop it up and flip it to first. It’s a 123 1st for Springs. A couple of ground ball outs were through an inning A’s and Cardinals no score. Brent Rooker will eat things off against Liberator Rooker. Hammer down the left field line moving over to get a new car. See if Rooker stretches for two , he will push for second. The throw in is off the bag and Rooker has a stand up double to lead off the second on the ground to third that won’t advance the runner Gorman a nice backhanded play and a strike to first and the 12 pitch is a curveball and that’s a called strike three and got the top of the zone. Goff can’t believe it, but it is the second strikeout for Liberator and Darryl her will be 32 payoff pitch is low and inside her will draw a two out walk and give Lawrence Butler a chance. Here comes the pitch and it’s a called strike three. Got him on the inside corner with a changeup. Contreras done a pretty good job against the left handers this year right back where it came from a base hit. So Contreras a leadoff single and the Cardinals off to a good start. Two strikes for and he chases another change up in the dirt. Cardinals having trouble measuring up that pitch and that will bring up Nolan Gorman the third baseman 31 right foot into the right field corner. Contreras around second, he’ll make his way to third to the plate. The 12 pitch that swung on him as he got him and another change up. He went back to back to back of those change ups and picks up strikeout number three. They are two away walker hitless in his last four games, one for 21 over his last six as well. Ground ball off the end of the bat gets it throws to first and that will retire the side. Jeffery Springs works out of some traffic and posts another zero as we approach the third Mason wins second on the Cardinals in hits since the all star break. He’s got 38 of them. There’s number 39 flared into center and down for a one out hit hitters count. The pitch is a touch slow. Herrera’s going to walk to first and the Cardinals in business yet again. Lefty on lefty matchup infield to double play depth and new part drives it to right field. Rooker going back, still going and he makes the catch over his shoulder right in front of the wall tagging up his win to third. That was struck very well by New Bar, but a great play on the defensive side. My Rooker so 1st and 3rd now with two outs and here is wilson Matres, the first baseman. The payoff from springs flared out to right here comes Rooker. It drops down, pops gonna wave home Herrera. Here’s the relay throw, it’s late. Contreras advances to second and the tag is in time. So Rooker went up for it. I don’t know if he lost in the lights, but I think you better had trouble with it. It’s going to be a single for Contreras two RBIs. He’s thrown out at second base but the Cardinals get two runs on two hits getting a little warm at the ballpark from Matthew Liberto. He is beginning his sixth inning as Kurtz drives that to left Can of Corn for New Car one out. Matthew Liberto winning tonight 81 pitches five and a third innings and Oliver Marmel is on his way out Matthew Liberto, his last win, June 29th. He’s in position to win game three tonight as kyle Leahy strides in from the Cardinals bullpen here in game three, 20. Cardinals. Jeffery Springs still in there for the A’s working into the sixth inning 32 pitch stroke to center butler. A good read makes the catch bouncing ball back to Springs. He’ll throw to the covering Kurtz two down. Here’s the 11 pitch that’s a ground ball on the left side field at second off by her Plants throws and get some nice job by spring seven in a row, retired by the left hander and another ground ball out. We’re through six complete. It’s the Cardinals two in the A’s nothing. The A’s have something going here 1st and 2nd 1 out. And Willie Macgyver is gonna give way to carlos Cortez first pitch on win as a ground ball to Wilson Contreras. The only play he can get is at second base as he tosses it to Mason Nguyen. He was moving in that direction and he was able to get him on the force. But this is a situation where the athletics were not able to capitalize on last night, chris and runners in scoring position. Two outs. Can he get that big knock? And I think that was something that just eluded the club on the ground. Mason fumbles for a moment but to flip a second in time and that will retire the side. Seventh inning stretch at Bush Cardinals lead it 2 to 0. This is right up, Noah’s alley. A guy who throws his hard and no one likes that fastball out over the plate. High, towering fly ball, a slider deep to right. That’s gonna carry, go. All he does is get the barrel to this one. Alvarado throws him a slider. It’s down, he goes down and gets it pops this thing way up into the night and it dumps right over the right field fence into the Cardinals bullpen. Kurtz is zero for three tonight. One for six in the series. He struck out twice, one oh deep drive to left field for get about that baseball into the A’s bullpen Kurtz going the other way. A solo shot. It’s 31 Cardinals, a fastball the other way by Leahy right there and he did not miss it gets extended right there able to really, really let the ball travel and I know some right handers wish they could hit a ball like that, but that is some tremendous power from the lefty two runners on one out and Jojo needs a double play. Now, he’s been known to be able to get those came out. Three pitches was trying to hit a home run and came up empty for a big strikeout. There he goes, breaking ball roll to third. Nolan’s got it. The, the inning is over for now , but we’ll see if the A’s take a look at this and they’re going to challenge it. I thought he was safe to the naked eye. But when I see this on the replay, I don’t know, man, that may be too close to turn over after review of the call on the field is the runner is out a this, we’re gonna put Newt Bar on, they’re intentionally walk New Bar and take their chances with wilson Contreras with the base opener. So 1st and 2nd now two outs, Contreras is two for three. Had that two run single in the third with two outs that Rooker lost in the lights. That one popped into left. That ball is gonna get behind. Soderstrom. Roll to the warning track. Two runs will score Contreras on his way to third. Two big insurance runs here in the eighth inning and the Cardinals now lead 5 to 1. Sutter really didn’t get a good look at it and he almost looked like the way Rooker came in. He looked like he just didn’t pick it up. He didn’t his glove out hoping it was going to find his glove but it screwed it all the way to the wall and wilson cleared the bases trying to pin it down is Jo Jo Romero who is looking for his seventh save of the year up the middle. So Jy to his right off balance throw, they got him. What a way to end it. So JC with a terrific play and the Cardinals take two out of three from the A’s and hold them to two runs in the last two days.

first!
Damn red birds but at least they didn't sweep the series! A's Always 💚 💛
Cards offense looked better today. Libby was great, Marmol should have let him finish the 6th inning. Gray and Palante have been horrible lately. Pitching is still bad aside from Mcgreevy and Libby. Mikolas is good sometimes, but relies on hitters just missing home runs too much. Offense needs some power in the offseason. If the Cardinals get a power hitter and better pitching they could make the playoffs next season.
A great outing for Libertore – 4 hits, 1W, 7Ks, 0 runs and FINALLY some run support
Nice defense by the Cards. 4 RBIs for Contreras!!
The St.Louis Cardinals are 70-71🔴⚪️🟡
A's looked like they had a couple of Little Leaguers playing the outfield…2 costly uncalled for errors…
Brilliant Victory!!! Let’s Go Cards!!!
Wow great fielding As
As outfielder not great today. I have doubts on that out on first base.
looks like bomb scare
Go as love my team
Sell the TEAM!! A's belong to Oakland.
My cousin was at the game and no he was not wearing a hat
Let’s go Cardinals
