Rangers vs. D-backs Game Highlights (9/3/25) | MLB Highlights | Arizona Diamondbacks

Well, there we are. Downtown Phoenix on a Wednesday afternoon. Diamondbacks playing well these days. They won five of seven. Back within two games of 500 and in search of their second series victory over the Texas Rangers this year. Here’s Josh Smith. The short stop to lead it off. Smith 20 into right field. And for the second straight game, Josh Smith leads off with a single. Smith stole the base last night in the first. He’s on board ahead of Wyatt Langford. Swinging a fly ball straightaway center. Langford chucks the bat away in disgust as the catch is made by Thomas. Jack Peterson is next. The former diamond back left-handed batter. Oh, there it is. Well, we’ll take it. A change up is strike three, says Roberto Ortiz. Here’s Jake Burgerer. Three for five in his career against Zack Allen with two homers. Swings to the first pitch and a jam shot that flutters into right field for a hit. Josh Smith racing to third. Rangers with an early opportunity with a man in scoring position. They’ve been so good with runners in scoring position the last couple weeks. Hagashi a 254 hitter, 10 homers and 45 driven in. Here goes Burger. Something you don’t hear very often, but Hagashi caught looking and scoreless first. Diamondbacks coming up against Jack Lighter. Jack Lighter going to make his 25th start of the season. and he will face Araldo Peromo and he comes into this one on a little bit of a heater right now for the Rangers. Been pitching really well and so when you got a guy in a heater like this, you really got to make him work. Strike three called. There’s the change up. It froze Purdomo and Lighter retires the leadoff man. So here’s Catel Marte. A home run in four straight games against the Rangers. That’s a three ball for that pitch was the closest of the four and it wasn’t that close. So Marte is gifted first base and Corbin Carroll is coming up next. There’s a broken bat line drive to right. That’s going to be a base hit. Carol makes the turn, heads for second. Ozuna’s got a strong arm. The throw though gets away. Mart’s going to try and score from third. Throw to the plate is in time. The throw elilluded Josh Smith. It was Ezekiel Duran, the third baseman, who went to retrieve it. Boy, Duran really made a play right there. Really saved the Rangers. Carol comes all the way around. Marte doesn’t seem to be even running that hard going into third base. Carol was steaming and then when the ball gets away, Marte tries to turn it on and get to home and Durant makes a terrific play chasing the ball down at the end of the dirt and then makes a perfect throw home. Carol credited with a double and Moreno is the batter now. Aby’s got a knock and here comes Corbin. Harold will score. Moreno will stop at first and it’s one- nothing Diamond B. I’m sorry, that was funny. But Jake Burgerer trying to get back to the bag at first as Moreno took a huge turn after this single into right center field. Burger slipped on a curb or something over there at first base. This is not exactly an oil painting. Man down. Here’s Del Castillo, tended batter from the University of Miami. The count is one and two. Swing and Messi struck him out on a slider. Here’s Cody Freeman to lead off the second. Here’s a 2-1. Swung on. Rolled over left side. Tough play Pommo backhand on the run. He throws low and Lleair brilliant backhand scoop. Picks it out of the dirt and there’s one down to the second. So one away and here’s Alejandro Osuna. Osuna in fact comes into play here today having reached base safely in five consecutive plate appearances. And here he whacks one into left pretty deep. McCarthy going back to his right on the run just before getting to the warning track. He hauls it in for out number two. Ezekiel Duran coming up and the pitch is hit sharply to third off the glove of Alexander down the left field line into foul ground. A long run for McCarthy. Duran easily makes it to second base. Zeke had a double last night. Continues to stay hot. It’s a hot shot down the line. Alexander can’t feel it. Bangs off his glove. Zeke in scoring position. to Helman now hitting 263 with three home runs, 10 runs batted in the 01 ground ball hit to Purdomo at short. He’s up with it to throw across takes care of Helman for the final out in the inning. Alexander leads up the bottom of the second for the Diamondbacks. Swing and a miss sinker that ran towards Alexander and Lighter gets the strike out. So Lighter issues his second walk. You got one on and one out now for Tyler Lleier. Lleier who has not hit well but has hit the Rangers up the middle. Another base hit for Lleer. Aggressive turn by Alec headed into third. Dex just trying to methodically add to their lead. Now they need a quality at bat from Jake McCarthy. McCarthy off the glove for Burger. Alec will score. They don’t get it out and it’s two nothing Diamondbacks. Could have been a double play but instead the Diamondbacks add to their lead. For Domo 88 runs batted in. He is a 331 hitter with men in scoring position on the ground to second. Freeman to Smith onto first. The big double play. 463. And that’ll end the Arizona half of the second. Jock Peterson. The battle. Swung on. He got jab. Rolls it over right side. Sliding to his left is Marte. Back to his feet. He throws to first in time. Peterson is out and it’s a one, two, three. Top of the third turned in by Gallon. We go to the bottom of the third inning. Marte, Carol, and Moreno coming up for Arizona here in the third. It’s a two nothing Diamondbacks lead. Swing and a miss. Lighter goes upstairs and he powers it by Marte. Well, he comes out of Jack’s hand looking like it’s closer to belt high. Corbin Carroll had a base hit in the first, a double, and then ultimately scored. Swing and a miss. That’s a slider in the zone, but again, the stuff is so good. You get a guy on his heels. advantage pitcher. So, another chance for the Rangers. Langford, the Ranger player of the month for August, has flat out grounded out. Helman at second and Smith at first. Good speed on the bases. There they go. Langford hits a deep fly ball to right. Corbin Carroll all the way to the wall and he’s got just enough room. Langford just misses extra bases and Zack Gallon walking off the mound with five shut outs. Gallon’s pitch count again climbing here in the last two innings. Perdomo picks up the error that allows Burger to reach and that brings up Kyle Hagashi. Zack Allen in position right now to pick up a win. Rangers trying to change that. Swing and a miss. Slider gets Aashi. Oh, that’s a big strike out to get. Made him chase ball four. Rangers are trailing here two to nothing. Diamondback’s got single runs in both the first and the second. That’s been it for the offense here today. Freeman has hit the ball well twice but has nothing to show for it. Out in front of that one. Blaze has got it in third and they get the force on Burger. Six scoreless from Zack Gallon in a two nothing lead. A one out walk to the very speedy Corbin Carroll. The Dags back in business here in the sixth. Moreno swings and pops one up into shallow right center. Freeman peeling out. He’ll make the one-hand grab to get Moreno for out number two. And that brings up Adrien Del Castillo. We do have activity in both bullpins it looks like. And if he ends up getting this out here and getting through six, you would think that this will be the end of his day and he will have gone six innings giving up two runs. Now the difference in that start versus this start is he got some run support. Highf fly ball left center and Jack’s not going to get to 100 because Michael Helman calls up. Wyatt kind of either way makes the play. Jack Lighter, what a bounce back after a shaky first two innings. Six innings in the books for Jack. He’s allowed just two runs. So Osuna in scoring position. Rangers trailing here two nothing as we play in the top of the seventh. Looks like Ronnie Tlesz is in the on Dixer will come out and hit for Helman. Three and two on Ezekiel Duran. Right back to Thompson and they got Ouna in a jam. The throw to Alexander is in time and they get the lead runner. Durant is stuck at first base. Chancey play too, but gets right back there. Does it good job checking the runner and then who is far enough off second base and gets him on a run down for double throws it to Blaze who applies the tag. Tles. As you can imagine, he will bounce into some double plays nine times this year and limited playing time. Keep that sinker down. Runner goes, ground ball left side and Alexander goes to third. Runner’s going to try and move up 90 ft. Ller’s throw to Moreno coverings in time and that’s a double play. Wait a minute. We got the second base umpire right now signaling that there might have been some sort of obstruction. The call on the field is there was obstruction on the play. That’s type two obstruction, which means it’s an automatic extra base awarded. What a great play. Watch Gabriel Moreno as soon as that ball’s put into play. He realizes Bla1 Alexander has to evacuate third base to field the ground ball. So Gabby went down and covered third. And here’s Josh Smith facing John Curtis who’s out there now for the Diamondbacks. A two-1 pitch swung on. Ground ball to first. Backhanded nicely by Lleier and a perfect feed to Curtis covering over at the bag. Once again, the Rangers threatened but do not score. Tander Andrew Srank 21 appearances this year including three saves. is Wyatt Langford. He just missed a three-run homer in the fifth inning. Was caught on the warning track. Swung on and looped in the air to left a base hit. Rangers down by two. Have another leadoff base runner. It’s the fourth time in eight innings they’ve had the leadoff man on. The Rangers, however, have gone 0 for five with men in scoring position after going 0 for9 yesterday. Now in hockey, they’ve got scoring chances. The Rangers have out chanced the Diamondbacks. They’re out hitting them. had more opportunities with runners in scoring position and Bruce Bochi going to go to his bench here and bring in Josh Young. 3-2 wave and a miss fast ball at the top of the zone and Saul Frank strikes out Young and a big strike out brings up Jake Burgerer and that one swung on and skyed high in the air straightaway center underneath it is Thomas. He hauls it in after that leadoff base hit. Couple of big outs turned in by Sulfrank. Kashoka’s got a fivegame hit streak on the line. Pops it up. Lar’s got it. Yeah, Andrew Sulfrank. Job well done. A scoreless eight. Ander Jake Woodford. Each of his last three outings had come in the ninth inning. He suffered a blown save here Monday in the loss to Texas and trying to lock down a win and a series win. Cody Freeman leads off the ninth. And with this Diamondback’s bullpen out there, you feel like you always have a fighting chance. 3-2 strike three called at the knees. Got a sinker in his spot and there’s one away. Was at the bottom of the zone. He did try to go in and didn’t paint the inside corner. There was enough plate. The eighth pitch to Osuna. Ball four. So the Rangers giving themselves a chance. Osuna draws the walk that brings Ezekiel to Grant to the plate as the tying run in the air to center off the end of the bounce. Thomas and the Rangers down to their final outs and it’s up to Dylan Mo. Bernovo up the middle. Little stumble and they get the force on Texas. Sebacks went the final 21 batters of the game without getting a base hit and still won the ball game partially because the Rangers were 0 for five with runners in scoring position.

Corbin Carroll and the Arizona Diamondbacks take on Josh Jung and the Texas Rangers on September 3, 2025.

  1. Starting to think that Marte is wanting a trade in the off-season. This is like the 5th game since Suarez, Kelly, Naylor, and Grichuk were traded that he has been thrown out not running full speed around third.

  2. I say on espn that we had already won , watched the highlight here since I missed the game saw Thompson warming up and my mind still instantly thought blown lead ๐Ÿ˜‚
