  1. At this point, it will be hard for the league or umpires to vote against the electronic strike zone.

Look I get it, they are human and are going to make mistakes. However lots of teams are in the hunt right now and can’t get screwed over by an ump that can’t find the zone, especially in favor of one team. 1.4 runs definitely has an influence on the game here.

If you can get balls and strikes right with the electronic system, why not use it and take out what clearly is guesswork.

  2. Fuck ABS. Just give the umps a thing in their ear that buzzes when it’s a strike or nothing when it’s a ball. Simple.

  3. This is why I hate the umpires union and can’t wait for ABS.

This piece of shit is a Sox fan and will not face any repercussions.

  4. Fully automated strike zones can’t get here soon enough and if you disagree you are an enemy to baseball

  5. All these Umps have their own strike zone,so they can separate theirselves from other Umps (which is already bullshit)…When an Ump is so inconsistent that it confuses both sides, and is such a big part of the reason why a team loses, that Ump should be held accountable in some way..

  6. I’m a baseball traditionalist. I hate Interleague play. I hate the Manfred Man on 2nd in extra innings. I hate the 3 batter rule for relief pitchers. The DH is a toss up for me, I liked the strategy of deciding to pinch hit for the pitcher or leave them in, etc, etc.

I’m ready for the computerized strike zone, thanks to umpires like this clown.

  7. +1.4 runs for Houston, brought to you by FanDuel. FanDuel, the number 1 sponsor of Brian Walsh.

  8. How does MLB ensure umpires aren’t gambling, or don’t have friends, family, associates, etc. that are? What steps does MLB take? Two pitchers were suspended indefinitely for throwing first-pitch balls. How can umpires not be suspected, especially after let’s say blowing ten calls. Seems so easy to make a couple calls at the right times to try to affect the game, maybe not a guarantee an ump can swing a game, but definitely can put their fingers on the scale.
Does anyone know? Just really wondering because seems the number of blown calls has risen in the past month or two, and not just the usual suspect umpires who have reputations as being terrible.

  9. The fact that this scorecard is generous to the ump by ignoring many of the boarder line calls is insane. This scorecard in the middle of a playoff race should be exhibit A about ABS and this ump really should be looked at because he clearly got worse after being challenged by the Yankees and it actively cost them the game.

  10. Can anyone explain the balk call to me? Was there anything about what Doval did that looked like a balk?

That just seemed like he was being vindictive about Boone arguing w/ him. That ump really took over the game, and determined the outcome.

  11. I’ve seen worst accuracy than this but for it to be 1.4 in favor of the Astros is fuckin INSANE and something i have not seen before. Literally fucked the Yankees over. And MLB won’t do a damn thing. Idk why we even watch this fishy and BS ass sport

  12. This is twice now this year I’ve noticed an ump suddenly changing the zone after a complaint for a bad call. It feels retaliatory and I won’t be convinced otherwise.

  13. Whoever is against robo umps at this point is fucking insane. Get the emotion out of these fucks out of the game

  14. And I thought my Neighbors blind dog, Bear, couldn’t see shit..

I can still hear my Neighbors Ann and Bev yelling at him, “To the Left Bear, no- THE LEFT!!” Like he knew his left from his right

  15. That was some REAL horseshit last night. I favor Max Scherzer’s idea — score these umps and relegate them to the minors when they’re this bad.

(Also –check this impostor’s phone for DraftKings and replace umps with robots as soon as possible.)

  16. Yankees should absolutely submit a grievance for this game to MLB. it was so clear he was screwing the Yankees even Astros fans were acknowledging it

  17. Def a frustrating loss, but I may be in the minority and hope that MLB stays as human as possible.
I get umps, players, make bad decisions and mistakes, but its a game played by humans. Mistakes and close calls are part of the action to me. I just want to be entertained.

  18. I have a thought or 2 on this that might get me trouble:

A major league hitter who gets it right 30% of the time is a superstar. An ump with a strike call accuracy of 85%, with many of the calls being missed by inches, is a bum, or is betting on games. Taken out of context, it seems odd.

I don’t think umps should be taken out of the game. I don’t like the electronic balls and strikes.

Teachers who generally make far less than $100K/year, are held to strict standards. And they have a union (at least where I come from).

How about this- MORE ACCOUNTABILITY FOR UMPS. At contract time, maybe stand up and get real. If the union doesn’t want to give up jobs to a computer, agree to new terms.

The scorecard determines salary, and major league jobs. If a player underperforms (well, all except Volpe and Williams) he goes to the minors. Same should happen for umps.

Overly simplistic, I guess, but there’s got to be SOMETHING that can be done to make umps truly accountable!
