[Schefter] Steelers team captain Cam Heyward, who has wanted his contract adjusted this summer, was not in uniform today with the rest of the team and didn’t appear to practice.

  1. Head sure has a big head on this one. You either want to be a steeler, or you don’t.

Terrible behavior of a team captain IMO

  2. Either you want to be a Pittsburgh steeler or you don’t. That’s simple that’s the pitch. I don’t need any of that crap

  3. I’ve been really trying to see both sides of this situation and I do get where cams coming from…but holding out right before the game? 1 year after signing?

    I can’t defend that.

  4. Jesus christ man. You signed the contract. You dont need it redone. Just play in the one you got

  5. Let him hold out. The game on Sunday will still be played with or without Cam. The next man up will get his opportunity to prove himself

  6. Man of the year. Team Captain. You either wanna be a Pittsburgh Steeler or you don’t. Won’t honor his contract.

I’ve never seen a Steeler as good as Cam, on and off the field, lose the fanbase so fast. He will be remembered as a hypocrite.

  7. Surely everybody in this thread freaking out knows that it’s extremely common for him to have rest days and that Schefter’s tweet is completely meaningless, right? 🤣

Edit: Aaaaaaand it was a rest day

  8. I’m really hoping this is just him taking a day off.

Cam has been the heart and soul of this team for years and seeing him turn like this is really disappointing.

  9. Good for Cam. Stick to your proverbial guns, Cam. Consequences for the players, but none for mediocre Mike.

  10. Never thought I’d even approach the thought of “man, fuck cam Heyward” and yet here we are.

  11. All I want to do is love Cam, I really think this is just a rest day and he’ll be out there for Week 1.

If he’s not, I can see a lot of Steelers fans opinions of him swinging very hard to the other side

  12. I thought there’d never be a world where I dislike Cam Heyward of all players. He’s making it really hard now. Cmon man

  13. Sorry but not sorry. Cam Heyward agreed to the contract and knows better than most about how the Rooney’s have conducted business in the off-season. Cam Heyward knows thi
and is last opportunity to make money.

  14. I don’t know what to think about this

I’m All for chasing the bag. But the comments he made about Aaron in the off-season make this look fucking ridiculo
But he also doesn’t practice. He’s too old for practice at this point. So I don’t know for sure that’s not what this is?

  15. TRADE HIS ASS NOW

The thing I hate is when players out-pefrorm their contracts and then want to renegotiate:

    (1) do the players give back the money from when they were over paid initially?

    (2) do the players give back their money if they UNDER-PERFORM?

  16. Just trade him and get something of value in the future. If/when he does play, his 36 year old body is going to experience some sort of soft tissue injury because he’s been doing this horseshit and hasn’t prepared like he needed to (unlike last year when he evidently had an axe to grind about some off hand comment that was likely said in jest…hey, whatever motivates you).

  17. You’d think at 36 years old he would understand what a contract is and how it works.

  18. And he calls out Rodgers!?! Cam, you are turning into one I dont care for.

I understand its a business, but shut the fuck up and suit up.

  19. I get it that things have shifted since he signed last year, but this is getting ridiculous. He JUST SIGNED AN EXTENSION!

Do you think the Steelers are looking at this, then turning to look at Harmon and Black and thinking….”Eh, no thanks Cam. We’re good”

What I would do (not knowing the details of his current extension that he ALREADY SIGNED), is not change guaranteed money but add a bunch of incentive tiers that, should he hit them with an awesome season, would put him in the range he wants.

  20. Whether you agree with Heyward or not, any distraction this close to week 1 isn’t needed and shouldn’t be coming from a Team Captain.

  21. Team Cam on this one. The team low balled him after an injury year. He didn’t just outplay his contract, he crushed it. Stats vs the run with and without him are insane. He has been clear on his position with plenty of time for the team to get it done. As for his comments about Aaron, everything was negotiated, just not signed. The reality of Cam’s situation is reversed. Either the Steelers want him, or they don’t.
