Full Quote: "When the Chicago Bulls traded Alex Caruso for Josh Giddey last offseason, they did so with the mindset that the Australian guard would be one of the faces of their franchise moving forward.

In his one season with the organization, Giddey proved to be the all-around talent this franchise needs to expedite its rebuild, which has been happening since the 1997-98 season.

That is why the Bulls haven't entertained any sign-and-trade talks regarding Giddey this offseason. At no point did the team pursue such an idea, nor did they hold discussions with any team about moving Giddey, sources said.

Throughout the summer, the long-standing belief from Chicago was that they would reach a long-term deal with the 22-year-old. He clearly wants to return, and the team can't afford to lose Giddey at this juncture.

However, the Bulls clearly need Giddey more than he needs them, which is why he does hold some leverage in this restricted free agency situation and has held out to this point.

Although they held firm on their offer of around $20 million per season, the Bulls have recently increased their proposed contract to try and end this stalemate. Chicago has presented Giddey and his representation with a four-year contract in the ballpark of $85 million to $90 million, league sources said.

This is likely the last contract proposal the Bulls will offer this offseason, as it's essentially a compromise from what both sides wanted. Whereas the Bulls entered the summer wanting to keep Giddey on a deal around $20 million per season, he wanted to be paid close to $30 million per year."

  1. These guys are screwing it up so bad because they gave a guy with no drive 90 million bucks for no reason.

  2. I’m glad the bulls are holding firm by not overpaying like they’ve already have with Zach, Vooch, and P Will

  3. If they’re offering 4/90 but won’t budge and just do the 4/100….that’s dumb.

  4. Like I’ve been saying for months, take it or leave it.

If he walks it would be a blessing in disguise. One less expensive mid player to worry about.

  5. It’s a win-win either way (or at least for me).

If giddey doesn’t sign back, Coby will have the ball more and could possibly have a huge breakout season and (maybe…?) become an All Star this year.

If Giddey does sign back, then we continue developing him, but that means Coby is most likely getting traded either in the mid season or in the next off season.

  6. Look around the league. 20 million is nothing. I’ll take Vooch over other bums making 20. Suggs 35 mil Markannen 46, Lamelo 38 (plays 40 games a year, Quickley 32, Gerami Grant 32, Poole 31, D Murray 30, RJ Barrett 27, Scarry Terry 26, Tobias and John Collins 26. You taking these guys salaries over Vooch at 20?

  7. Cam Thomas taking the QO is making me think Giddey could follow suit and play for a bigger bag this season, i wouldn’t mind watching him ball out all year with a chip on his shoulder and something to prove, then letting him sign to whoever thinks he deserves more than 22.5m/year while we continue to focus on the rebuild

  8. They’re somehow going to lose both Giddey and White for nothing, then sign some 30 YO shooting guards to “Stay competitive,” next season

  9. PJ Washington just got 4y/90m and I think Giddey is better.

Seems like the Bulls offer is currently 4y/88m. It’s either that or the 11m qualifying offer.

Bulls hold quite a bit of leverage though. It’s September and teams are mostly set, they are bidding against themselves at this point.

  10. So it seems Giddey was looking for abt $25m per. If that’s the case and Bulls were offering a hard $20m per…the Bulls being willing to go close to $23m is a huge plus. Get an opt out in 3, by 26-27 yrs old he can still cash in if trajectory continues to increase. His concern may be that he only has value with Bulls and their current make up and no where else. Bulls know that too.

  11. 4 years, 90 million. That’s it. If he doesn’t take it, that’s his problem. But there is nowhere else where he will have the fit that he has here…period

  12. They should offer $25 million per year and call it good.

Giddey for $25 million per year is a good contract. That will be cheap.

Can’t they offer 5 years as well? There should be no reason they aren’t going 5 years instead of 4 years for someone as young as Giddey if they can.

  13. This I’m glad they’re not overpaying nonsense is I think silly. There are some players you may have to overpay for. It looks like Giddey is one of them
