Prepare for some flashbacks as I remember some guys. Pirates Catchers.

Some players of all time.
Andrew Knapp was my favorite. Got thrown out of a game from the bench…..Problem is he was the only backup catcher. Starter gets hurt. VanMeter had to catch then.
Don’t forget backstop great Craig Wilson
2011 Dusty Pagnozzi run was magical
I’ll probably forget my whole family and all of their names in my old age, and there I’ll be on my death bed and for whatever reason, I’ll look at my son and be like “I don’t know who you are, but do you know the Pirates once had a catcher named Humberto Cota?”
I can’t for the life of me recall Matt Pagnozzi. I remember all the others, we definitely went through ‘em there for a few years. Pretty good stability this season behind the dish
I liked Erik Kratz. With the Phils, Prince Fielder tried to level him, and Prince bounced off like a tennis ball.
They managed to use 8 different catchers in 2011. Remarkably, Barajas/McKenry caught every inning in 2012.
Jacob Stallings is easily the best homegrown catcher of the NH/BC era.
I remember when Ryan Doumit was gonna be a revolution.
There are some names here, wow! 2011 was wild. That team had a different catchers every game, and I’m pretty sure that half of them were bagging groceries when the Pirates signed them.
Jogging Ronnie Paulino!
2011 was such a weird year, you could see the transition happening in real time. Looking back at it now, a stat sheet half full of all-timers and half full of “wait, that guy got *how many* ABs???”
And unfortunately they are still looking for a catcher
Barajas hit a walk off homer in the rain after Adam LaRoche of the Nats tied it in the top of the 9th…so there’s that…
I liked Fryer. No batting gloves, rubbing his hands in the dirt
Ronny Paulino, great pull
No Tony Sanchez??
I used AI to compile this list of catchers to appear for the Pirates since 2004. Lord, have mercy on us all.
Prepare yourselves.
