I was wondering, when I first heard the news last night about him supposedly hearing a "Pop" in his arm, but an update indicates it's at least possible and maybe likely.

Shelby Miller says he's facing the possibility of a second Tommy John surgery as the Milwaukee Brewers placed the veteran right-hander on the 60-day injured list with a sprained ulnar collateral ligament in his throwing elbow.

Miller spoke to reporters Wednesday and said he planned to speak with Dr. Keith Meister regarding his MRI results and to get feedback on the next steps. Miller acknowledged surgery seemed like a realistic option and spoke pragmatically about his baseball future.

"I'm definitely probably going to miss next year," Miller said. "Be ready for 2027, see how my arm feels, see where I'm at in my life and go from there."

As the story notes, he's 35 and already been TJed once. I'll give him a kudo for being realistic about how things will stand in 2027; it's not likely that a 37-year-old reliever who hadn't been a closer or semi-closer until this year, with two TJs, will draw too much interest. (His contract expires this year.)

  1. I hope he has a speedy recovery. I used to run into him at the grocery store during his rookie season. We had normal guy conversations, videos games, football, movies.

  2. Honestly he just needs to be ready after rehabbing.
If he can still bring it do it he could get offered a contract on a team that is contending and maybe wants a reliable reliever.

If not, well he did his best to be ready for a chance. Time is more precious the closer to 40 you get.

    Good luck, Shelby!!
