The Bulls Best and FINAL Offer to Josh Giddey….

All right, so I know we’re all getting tired of hearing about Josh Giddy, the latest of his contract discussions, the rumors and reports on where things stand, and you’re probably all saying, “Just wake me up when they finally agree on a new contract or he signs that qualifying offer.” But for the sickos that are monitoring this thing religiously. Well, we did get somewhat of an update, something that was a bit significant as it came from one of the more reputable sources and insiders in the NBA, and that’s Bobby Marx of ESPN, a former front office executive of the Nets, where he indicated that the Bulls have upped their offer to Josh Giddy to 4 years, $88 million when it was originally four years, $80 million. So, going from 20 million annually to 22. Now, to me, the reason this is significant, the timing of it is interesting, depending on when that new offer was actually made, is because we did get our first restrictive free agency domino. And the reason that’s important is, well, one, the threat of Giddy taking the qualifying offer becomes more real when you have other free agents conceding to the fact that they’re not going to be able to get deals that they want and will opt to be unrestricted free agents in 2026. But aside from that, it’s significant because with Thomas taking the qualifying offer, that opens up just enough cap space for now, the Brooklyn Nets to make Josh Giddy an offer. 22.4 million is what the Nets currently have in cap space as the most they could offer Giddy in a new deal, at least the starting salary for this upcoming season. Anyway, now I don’t think the Nets would make an offer to Giddy because they drafted Igor Deon in the top 10, which a lot of people felt was a stretch of a selection to take him that high. But there are some redundancies in terms of what Giddy can do and Denim can do. And at the end of the day, the Nets are still in full tank mode. They’re still rebuilding and bringing in Giddy would probably be counterproductive to that. That said, it doesn’t mean that the threat isn’t there where the Bulls could perceive this to be an issue and as a result of it, they up their offer. The other factor in this is that I’m sure it didn’t help that the Dallas Mavericks and PJ Washington agreed to a four-year $90 million extension, which puts his salary higher than what the Bulls were offering of Giddy at 4 years $80 million. And look, I don’t care what people say, Josh Giddy’s a better player than PJ Washington and has more upside given he’s 5 years younger than him. I tweeted this the other day and a lot of people were talking about it as this is not an app comparison because the Mavs are contenders. PJ Washington played well in the playoffs and was a big part of their success. Man, the Mets finished in the exact same spot the Bulls did last season. Yeah, they went through injuries, but they didn’t make the playoffs last year. PJ Washington has been to the playoffs one time in his career in that finals run with the Mavs last season. Yeah, he was good. Yeah, he’s a solid player and he should be getting a bag. I don’t have a problem with the contract the Mavs gave him, even though I don’t think anyone was going to be shelling out that kind of money for PJ Washington. But my point in all this is I don’t care what the Mavs circumstances are compared to the Bulls. Josh Giddy is a better player and more impactful player than PJ Washington. if he’s getting that kind of money, Giddy’s agents are going to use that as another example for the type of deal that he should be getting. But anyway, that was a bit of a side rant. Back to the best and final offer from the Bulls at 4 years, $88 million, which the reports are indicating that that’s the most the Bulls are planning to offer. By the way, it’s not going to get better than that. Maybe he gets a higher annual amount if they do a three-year deal, but in terms of length and the amount, you’re looking at four years, $88 million. That’s a pretty good offer for Josh Giddy. an offer that if I’m giddy, I would take as opposed to taking the qualifying offer and hoping for a bigger contract next summer. Now, we don’t know any of the other stipulations on the offer. Is the final year a player option, a team option? Is it neither? And is it just four years guaranteed? Are there any partial guarantees, other bonuses or incentives? I mean, we have no idea. But if we assume it’s a straight four years, $88 million, we’ll even say it’s flat, 22 million per year because we know the bulls like doing those flat agreements. Yeah, that’s a good offer that I think Giddy would be unwise to pass up because as I’ve said before, if you go the route of taking the qualifying offer at $1.1 million, well, right away in year one, you’re sacrificing $11 million in earnings if the deal on the table is $22 million per year. So, right away, you’re already having to make up that in your next deal in 2026. But more importantly, nothing in this league is guaranteed. You could have a bad year. You could have a bad injury. And now you’re heading into unrestricted free agency in 2026 with lower value than where you are right now and looking at an offer that is less than $88 million that you had on the table last summer. Sure, Giddy could take the qualifying offer, ball out, make an all-star team, lead the Bulls to more wins than expected, and then he gets something north of $30 million per year, and within the first two years of that contract, you’ve already made up those lost earnings in the qualifying offer. But man, does everything have to go right for Giddy for that to happen. Not only in terms of his play, but also not knowing what the free agency landscape is going to look like next summer. Yes, a host of teams are projected to have an ample amount of cap space next year. But as we’ve seen so many times throughout the year, or even just weeks before free agency, teams resign their current players to big deals and the cap space that was once expected to be available quickly dwindles before free agency even opens. So, even that is not guaranteed. Even if Giddy has a dominant year and better than expected season, you never know what the free agency landscape is going to look like. So, the way I look at it is $88 million guaranteed versus 11.1 million because that’s all that it truly is. That’s all that’s truly guaranteed if you take the qualifying offer. Now, I would still think it would be smart on the part of Giddy and his camp to still wait it out and call the bluff on the Bull’s part until maybe days before October 1st in that deadline to see if they b and maybe up their offer a bit. But if they don’t, yeah, I think it would be a mistake for Giddy to decline that offer and take the qualifying offer or in what we talked about in my last video, go the nuclear option of holding out, not playing, and waiting until the offer gets better while he sits at home and doesn’t get paid. Just feels like it’s too much of a risk on Josh Giddy’s part to go that route. If he does in fact have a decent offer before him, you know, it would be one thing if the Bulls were offering him like 3 years, $50 million, then okay, it might make more sense to play some hard ball, but $88 million guaranteed 4-year contract, yeah, I feel like you have to take that. You might be able to get more in the open market next year, but I don’t know if you’re going to get that much more. And at the end of the day, I still think this is going to drag out until just days before October 1st. I do think a deal will ultimately get done and I do think it’s going to be a deal that is more favorable to the Bulls. I’m curious to see if Cam Thomas now taking the qualifying offer. We’ll see if these other contract discussions now start to pick up as a result of it. There are other free agents still on the board that aren’t just the restricted ones like Russell Westbrook, Ben Simmons. I’m just looking forward to training camp starting, man. this off.

  1. Reinsdork is so horrible. How the nba and MLB let him stay around and operate his franchises like they the pirates while in Chicago is truly dumbfounding.

I saw where Andrew beinintendi signed the largest contract ever for a white Sox player at 5 years 75 million. Thank God for football, huh

  2. The only problem I have with this whole situation is people are not thinking about or talking about the impact this can have on the other players. Stuff like this hurts chemistry and considering he came from a city that already had star players and he was being benched and not getting the playing time he wants to then come to Chicago and be a main piece you would think that he would take the contract knowing that he will be relied on in a city where he will be appreciated

  3. I get what you're saying but that's not exactly applicable every time. Paul George is on a huge contract. Giddy is currently a better player than him. Should Giddy get a max?

And The nets won't offer him a deal because the bulls already offered him the same amount. There be no point if they couldn't offer him at least 25

  4. 😐 Cam Thomas shouldn't be asking for a big contract especially playing only 65% games of his career. Giddey on the other hand has played 85% and deserves better than him. And he's going to get it either 1 year or multiple.

  5. That’s a fair offer tbh.

The reality is reinsdorf is a parasitic jackass, and having cap space is irrelevant because no star free agents ever want to take his money.

  6. I hate this “that guy got $x million, so my guy deserves at least that much”, as if that’s the end of the story. Giddey can receive offers, and if he does, the bulls can match it. Teams rarely have leverage, they can and should use it when they have it. Unfortunately for Josh, this just comes after years of AKME handing out big contracts, bidding against themselves.

  7. Now imagine Giddey playing and looking at the bench clothes Patrick Williams making more money than him 😂🤦🏻‍♂️
Boy our front office is completely clueless. There is just nothing anyone can say to change my mind on that.

  8. I believe that he will take the offer at the cost of his performance. He is not going to be motivated to level up his game immediately but do it in a more relaxed manner for the next 4 years.

  9. What will we have if Giddey leaves after next year? Bulls are acting like he’s replaceable but there are very few pgs in the league capable of playmaking at his level. And zero that would want to join the Bulls.

25M a year is more than fair for a player like that. There’s no excuse for this FO to continue being cheap and short-sighted.

Wanna make the most of Matas and Noa? Give them an all-star caliber offensive engine to play with. Wanna ruin their development? Make them create their own offense before they’re ready.

  10. OMG This management is so backwards. They negotiate with a 22 year old and throw money with a max contract to an often injured, 27 yr old in Zach LaVine, and sign 23 year old Patrick Williams to a 5 year $90 mil contract who avg a triple-single one year ago.
