  1. I’m not sure we can have a captain this year as the likey candidate in Mario could be trade bait and everyone rlse is far too young for me to see them as captain

  2. In my mind, there's 2 options:
Taffoli is captain for the next 3 seasons (remainder of his contract) before Celebrini steps into the role
They hold off on a captain before Celebrini steps into the role next season when he's already older than Crosby and McDavid when they became captains. (No teenager has been captain for a full season)

  3. As we basically haven’t had a C in 2 years I think we could use one. Give Macklin a some time playing under an NHL captain before he gets it. The kid has enough pressure on him already. Tof is the man for probably the next 3 years.

  4. Hey Brodie,
This is a thorny question for sure. I am of the mind that we should not rush this and if need be just go with alternate captains on the ice like last season. The one thing I am sure about is I don't want to over burden Maclin at such a young age. Maclin is remarkably mature, hard working, detail oriented and highly skilled as well as very smart. Maclin would not be the first 19 year old Captain of an NHL team but, given where we are I think it would be better not to put that added responsibility on him.

I am fairly certain that Maclin would be able to handle it but, he is not just a source of on ice success creating offense and making defensive plays he is a key part of providing joy in the game right now because he is realizing a life long dream and is experiencing the NHL for the first time. I think given the tough road ahead right now for the boys that joy of the game competing against the best in the world is a key component right now to help keep the team stable and avoiding nasty overtones from seeping into the locker room when success is hard won and more often elusive.

Let Maclin revel in this short lived beginning to his career while he grows into the person and player he will be. If we must give him an A for now but, let him be the cornerstone first and let him bring the joy that this young team desperately needs..

Thanks Brodie for another fun video.
