New York Yankees @ Houston Astros | Game Highlights (9/4/25)
Christian Javier is back in business. This will be his fifth start on the year. So far so good. Only one home run given up. Aaron Boon made a a point today. He said you you can’t blame losses on umpires. He said, you know, you hope that the the calls go your way, but when they don’t, you you just have to work around it. The Yankees didn’t have an opportunity to do that yesterday. on umpire’s scoreboard. Um Brian Walsh missed 21 calls yesterday and 15 of them went against the Yankees. So it was not a great game for him. Thirdyear umpire also threw out Boone and Devin Williams and heard about it from Jazz Chisum as well at the end of the game as Gisham goes down on strikes [Music] and he walks. Ground ball first base grab by Walker. He’ll take it himself and that’ll do it. And here’s the power lefty. Carlos Rodon has certainly done his part this year. This will be his 29th start. Very durable. Posted up. 15game winner. Good numbers across the board. Grounded to third. McMahon. One away. Swing and a miss on the chain. Strong first inning for Carlos Rodon as he gets the Astros in order. And there’s a pitch violation allowing Wells to work a walk. Line drive. It’s a base hit to left field for Vulpi. Wells will stop at second as Alvarez gets the ball in. Line to right field. That is going to be in there for a base hit. Wells rounds third. He’s coming home. Here’s the throw from Smith way up the line. It’s an RBI single for Ryan McMahon. And the Yankees lead one- nothing. That one’s drilled out into right center field. Bellinger on the run. It’s going to be over his head and up against the wall and Koreah coast into second with an inning opening double. Grounded. McMahon. The backhand. And the throw gets by Rice and that allows Kare to advance to third. Like it was in his glove. David Balls up the line just enough. High popup. Chisum makes the play. Runner stay put. Big out. Ground ball. He did throw the change up. Chisum goes to first and he gets out of trouble. No runs to hit. One error and two men left. That one is drilled into center field. On the run is Duban and he hauls it in for the second out. You can’t hit it harder than that. Strike three gets Pñena looking. Drill deep to right field. Tie game. Ca. A long home run for Alvarez. Ball gets away. Altuve hits the second. Got him. Great tag by Chisum. And a really good throw by Wells as he gets Aluve trying to advance. Yeah, he didn’t get spiked. He got banged with the helmet on the knee. See Altuve as well. Both of them came up shaken up a bit. Wow. Looks like he said he’s done. New second baseman is Jose Cabayro. Ground ball in the hole. Backhanded by Bulpi. The throw to first. The stretch. Got him. Good play on both ends. Yankees just three games back in the lost column. So it is a battle for first place. That one is drilled deep to center field. Going back and missing. It is Dubon. That ball is gone. A home run for McMahon. And the Yankees take a 2-1 lead. Gisham rips one, a base hit to right center field. Another blistered baseball into right center field. So Rice picks up a hit. Gisham will go to second. That’ll bring up Judge. Ball four. Base is loaded. Second walk to Judge. hit sharply. A base hit to right field. Gisham scores. They’re going to hold Rice at third. The throw goes to Walker. It’s an RBI single for Bellinger. And the Yankees lead 3 to one. Joe Espado is going to take the baseball from his starter and go to the bullpen. And a pitch clock violation. Can you believe that? So a walk for Cababayro. Coming home from third is Rice and the Yankees lead four to one. And Aspatada wants to talk things over with Adrien Johnson. Bulpi charges and throws low. The scoop by Rice, but Pñena beats it out. We’ll see if they score that. He took his time making that throw. Another look. He just double flinched. He just couldn’t get out of his glove. And I I think he might take another look at that one. Call on the Bills being overturned. The runner is out. New Yorker saves it. They save their challenge. So take the error away from Bulpi. Give a one two three inning to Rodon. And that is on one hop to McMahon who drops the ball. Now he’s saying he caught it on the fly. It wasn’t on one hop and then in the transfer he dropped it. But there’s Brian Wall saying, “Nope, you didn’t have it enough time.” And that is reviewable as Aaron Boon is saying, “Hold on a sec. That’s in the air and that’s on the transfer.” Another look clearly in the glove. He has secured the ball. Wow. The call stands. Good chance that Boon’s going to get thrown out again. soft ground ball. There’s one and the throw gets by. That’ll allow Alvarez to score. A bad throw by Cabayro and it’s 4-2. Swing and a miss. Big strike out of Walker. Second out of the inning. [Applause] Highfly ball deep right center. Gisham back. He’s there and makes the play in front of the wall. And Rodon bowled his head. Persevered and he gets out of the six. And Luke Weaver will pitch here in the seventh. And the pitch driven out to left field. Stanton is going to watch it go over the high wall into the Crawford boxes. A solo home run and it’s 4-3. Swing and a miss. Oras down on strikes. Strike three. Treal down looking. Two away. And that’s a base hit pass the diving Cabayro. Pñena will stop at second. The throw comes into Vulpi. Alvarez with his third hit. So Boon’s going to call on Fernando Cruz with Altuve coming up. Cruz five games off the IIL. He’s allowed one run. 2.82 RA. And this is a big spot. And this crowd is into it. And he swings through the splitter. 0 and one. And the pitch 3-2 and the pitch. Swing and a miss. He got him on the splitter. A pumped up Fernando Cruz gets the big strike out of José Altuve. The payoff pitch and it’s his money pitch. The splitter. Look at the reaction. A big moment in this game. 3-1 and Stanton will walk and they will obviously pinch run for him. Pours a strike in there. No, they call that a ball. So a walk to Wells. Second walk of the game. Second walk of the inning. The O2 swing and a miss. Vulpi down on strikes. Here’s McMahon. RBI single and a solo home run. Two for three. ground ball and knocked down by Pena, but it kicks away from him. Dominguez will score. Moving to third is Wells. It’s a big RBI single for McMahon. His third hit of the night, and the Yankees are up 5-3. That’s his first three hit game with the Yanks. Drilled deep to right field. There it goes. See youa. A long home run for Gisham. His 30th of the year. It’s a three-run shot and the Yankees lead 8 to three. 30 times he’s gotten to do that this year. 30. His careerhigh was 17 coming into this year. And down goes Walker on that splitter. Swing and a miss. There’s that pitch again. Three strikeouts. [Applause] Shallow center field coming on Gisham and he makes the play for the final out. Fernando Cruz with a big four outs for the Yankees. Not a safe situation, but they’re bringing in Bedor who has not pitched in a while to get the final three outs. You start a three-game set for first place tomorrow against Toronto. That one’s driven deep to left field. And Dominguez is going to play it off the wall against fire. Carini will go to third. Going to second is Trel. Second and third. Nobody out for the Astros. The umpires will confer. Just a looking at the bat. looking at the marks on the bat as if there’s some for some sort of foreign substance on it. Possibly hard to know. Generally, when umpires check the bat, it’s because the opposing manager like Billy Martin did to George. This is a rules check about a bat regulations. Now, you see there, there’s a mark on the bat there. I don’t know if it’s a label of some sort. That’s much higher than it should be. And it doesn’t look like it’s a label. It’s just scratched out. Now they are going to give the bat to an official and he’ll probably take it to the umpire’s room. That’s the authenticator, David. And they’re going to authenticate that bat. But at this point, it’s a double line drive and caught by Bulpi. They went up to get it and came down with the out and the two-2. That one is looped and into left center field for base hit. Keratini scores. Trel had a hold up so he advances to third. It’s the fourth hit of the night for Alvarez. An RBI single and it’s 8-4 and the pitch. The bases are loaded. Altuve worked to walk. So it comes down to this with one out. Koreah who has two hits tonight will come up as the tying run. Yankees came into the bottom of the ninth inning up by five. A curveball on 3-1. Three and two. Here’s the payoff. Swung on and missed. He struck him out on a fast ball. Two away. A huge strike out of Koreah. The pitch. Swung on a miss. The Yankees win. They hold on and they win the game eight to four. And the Astros lead the bases loaded. And the Yankees come into Houston and take two out of three. [Music] concrete jungle where dreams are fade out. There’s nothing you can’t [Music]

Are the umpires trying to get involved in the game more then they already are? How many bad calls have to happen before MLB does something? MLB you are going to lose people if you don't fix the umpire problem.
Dominguez when will you learn to play the wall? You over chase constantly
Volpe sucks
McMann (sp?) clearly caught that ball and bobbled on the transfer. The umpires blew the call, even after the replay. Boone expressed some real discipline to not get thrown out.
Get rid of that singing chick at the end, so annoying.
Let's go Yankees
Cruz is a lunatic and I'm here for it
Yanks Should have swept. Umps are corrupt.
4:03 Dubon missed the ball he jumped for by 30 feet ,hit the blu red BRING THE GO sign 30 ft over him
Love that we won the series but they still have trouble playing fundamental baseball. Aka too many errors
Goosebumps on that Fernando Cruz strikeout on Altuve!!!!
Love the Yankees fan behind the plate punching out Correa and the last guy 😅
Dude was not sitting there the whole game and that’s how we do it in the Bronx baby – when the rich assholes leave their expensive seats early we get in there!! If Volpe and Rice learn to throw and catch we might have something this year! Go Yanks!
Stay winning 💪💪💪💪
So what was on the baseball bat
The umpires were ridiculous this game
Brian Walsh needs to be banned forever from baseball he is a biased shithead
MLB needs to punish blue for crap like this series
I thought that was the bat they used to hit the drum
Umpires trying their best to screw them but the Yankees were the better team this series.
Umps need to be investigated after that series.
When cruz gets fired up like that it pumps me up bro. Great win. Fuck those umps
Love Ben Rice’s bat he reminds me of Greg Bird. Great swing but he needs to step up on defense. Two balls he should’ve caught almost cost them the game. The umps were horrendous this series also
Love taking two of three…but this is exactly the style of play the Dodgers exploited last year.
Hopefully TJ Rumfield will have an opportunity to prove himself at first base.
Soto? Nahh we got the
Big Sleep
Why Volpe gets everyday shortstop?
He should be optioned!!!!!
Umpires should be held accountable for calling bad games. They should have to rewatch every game to review their performance. What bullshit.
“Didn’t have a great game” so instead he had 2 straight bad games lol
Yanks worked hard to take the series. Those Umpires especially Walsh made the case for technology to replace them. Walsh’s betting tendencies need to be thoroughly investigated and the Umpires Association can go pound sand.
Could have won all 3 games but yet Boone and William always destroying this team chances, hopefully both of this guys are gone by the end of the season
Not a Yankees fan here, but I was going for them after that 3rd baseman called 'error'. How in the world did that get miscalled on video review? It was in his glove for ~2s, and he raised the ball from the ground up to his hand before the transfer error. How the @#$@ do you fail at this call? How?
Volpe and his damn double clutch 😡 our defense is way too sloppy even when we win by a lot I still feel nervous about routine plays. Fundamentals are so lacking on this team
L'arbitro di terza base è veramente scandaloso!
What is Rice's natural position? C?
VAMOS YANKEES ASI SE HACE RECUERDEN, Q, NADIE A GANADO MAS SERIES MUNDIALES QUE USTEDES A SEGUIR JUGANDO ASI COMO GRANDES QUE SON HAY VAMOS😊
That call at 3rd was called by the same ump who missed 24 calls behind the plate the night before.
Volpe has got to stop bouncing throws
I left for work at the 4th inning, and I said to myself "I better see a MFing Yankees Avenue update when my MFing shift ends"
Rewatching this video again…I’m still furious those umpires were allowed to fuck that call up. McMahon definitely caught that ball. It’s embarrassing to watch
30 Grisham
If we can do this against the Astros we can do this at Fenway, it's time to wash those dirty Soxs
😂 👏👏 Lets Go Yankees ⚾
Cruz has the energy we need right now for the playoffs cruising baby
The defense is …….
In all honesty, didn't get a chance to watch the game – but saw the great extended highlights – not sure why they didn't extend Weaver, who is outstanding and maybe uses blood magic to be that good. Fernandez Cruz was outstanding. But why not just go Weaver to Cruz to end the game? Thoughts?
GRISHAM BETTER GET PAID HIS A BEAST !!!
The one umpire most be a Red Sox fan check his bank account 😢
Damn there's alot of Yankee fan's in the Astros home stadium 😂
