🔴LIVE 🔴San Francisco Giants VS St Louis Cardinals/ September 05 / Baseball Envivo/MLB THE SHOW 25

just about ready to roll. Today’s starting pitcher, Matthew Liberator. What do you have on him, Sigy? Well, no doubt about it. He’s going to have to put together some consistently good performances in order to bring that erra down. Now, he’s got good stuff. He’s just got to be able to have confidence, trust it, and really go after hitters, not nibble, trust that his stuff can have late life and miss barrels of bats. Elliot Ramos leading things off and takes a strike. And there’s a ball. That’s a really good take right there. Slider down and in. very difficult to get on the same plane and do anything with. Swing and a miss as he chases that one darting out of the zone. Oh, that got him. First batter of the game is hit by the pitch. DeS now another solid power season. swing and a miss. Strike one. Yeah, and here’s a fun stat on Dvers. He’s at his best when he’s hitting homers and doubles. And by the time he was 26 years old, D’s already had over 150 home runs and more than 200 doubles. He’s just the 15th player in baseball history with those kinds of numbers at that age. That one out to right. Walker makes the grab. One away. Now we take a peek at the Giants lineup. Singi, this righty heavy lineup must be licking their chops with a lefty on the mound. Well, to me, Boog, it shows the manager trying to set these players up to have a big game facing an opposite-handed pitcher. You only get a fraction of a second longer to see the ball and decide to swing. But that can be the difference between a line drive and a swinging strike. Runner on the go. Pitch in for a strike. Throw there. Safe. You know, having a good lead is so key when you’re stealing bases. Even if you’ve got great speed, but if you don’t have great speed, but can get an extended lead and a good jump, you can steal bases on a catcher who can really throw it. That’s a nice job right there. Ramos the runner at second with one away. And a curve is down and in. Cut on and missed 96 of that fast ball. Man, he was really tardy on that fast ball. Great job of setting him up by throwing the curve ball. add some velocity to it on the next pitch. Can’t catch up. And now the lefty way inside. Runner at second here. One gone. Just off the outside edge. Really good take, especially with two strikes. popped up to the left into foul ground. Gorman makes the grab. Two down. Bill, that was a pitch you got to crush. Unbelievable that he missed it right there. And I’m telling you, he is going to be frustrated with himself until his next at bat. So, the go-ahehead run in scoring position. And here is Matt Chapman. He’s been such a good hitter with runners in scoring position. Some guys just take it to another level. For him right now at the plate, it’s like everyone else is in slow motion and he’s in full speed. Come on, Matthew. That one not close. One and one. St. Louis swings through that one out in front that time. Well, at that velocity, if that’s all you’re seeing, 88, you can handle that all day long. That’s what you get in batting practice. But off the velocity of the fast ball, that is a very Ah, that’s strike three and the third out. So, we take a break. Well, this guy competes hard. We see the emotion there. I love it. Great job of getting out of the jam back here in St. Louis and towing the slab, Robbie Ray. Chris, it’s a little more common these days, but still he’s a strikeout per inning type of guy. Well, I hear you about the strikeouts. A lot more guys striking out today, but when you consider having the ability to get that strike out, particularly when you need it, a man on third, less than two outs, situations where, yeah, maybe you’re not a real high strikeout guy, but just knowing you have the swing and missed stuff in a big spot, I think it’s real critical. And he’s got it. Mason Win leading things off and takes a strike and he’ll one gets him to chase after that one. Almost got him. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. Chase the fast up the ladder for strike three. Well, that high forcing fast ball, it’s become such a staple as a strikeout pitch over the years. And what’s so tough as a hitter is that you see it extremely well. The problem is the velocity and spin rate just happens to jump by you. You expand your zone. You don’t stay tall on the backside and you’re really not even able to make contact. If you do, many times it’s a popup. Makes the catch for the out and a couple of quick outs. Here’s a Cardinals lineup now. And Singi against the southpaw on the mound. The skippers loaded this lineup with righty bats. Certainly following the conventional wisdom here, Boo. That extra split second can make a big difference for a hitter. So, these righty batters will need to take advantage and make this tactical move pay off. Here’s the left fielder, Lars Nbar. And that misses one and0. Two outs. Base is empty. Late swing fouled to the left. And that’s a little bit high. Two and one in the air right field. Matoss on his way over. He’s got it. And that’ll end the inning. End of one and we’re still scoreless. Back here in St. Louis, second inning set to go. And digging in for San Francisco, Wilmer Flores, Liberator, a 6-4 lefty, 215 lbs, a former first round pick back in 2018. Tap foul at the plate. Larry Bullard making the calls behind the plate for us in this one. Pretty good strike zone. Well reviewed by those we talked to around the league. Yeah, he’s an umpire. He doesn’t get a lot of looks from players. Maybe here and there once in a while, but he’s appreciated back there. That one missed. And that one sliced fouled now. All even up and that one upstairs. Three balls, two strike. fouled off and they’ll do it again. I wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball. Try to go again with a fast ball. Slightly elevated. He just having a hard time catching up. Foul. We’ll see another payoff pitch. Well, he’s having a tough time getting a pitch by him. As a hitter, you feel pretty confident that you’re seeing different pitches still able to make some type of contact. That one misses. So, a leadoff walk. Man, that’s a tough one to take on the full count, but I guess he saw it really well. It’s a really nice plate appearance. And up next for the Giants, Drew Gilbert. And that’s downstairs. And that is ball one. Second inning here. No score. Come on, Matthew. And there’s a ball in the dirt but kept close. That one to first. Fired to second. How about that double play? The 361 double play, in my opinion, is one of the toughest plays to make. You’ve got a pitcher covering first and the middle infielder throwing to a moving target. Everything has to be perfect. And right there, they made it look pretty easy. And up next for San Francisco, Casey Schmidt. That misses. And that’s ball one. Two down. Nobody on. And now two and nothing. Looked like it was a little bit up. That’s in for a strike. It’s a good spot with the three 0 pitch right there. You don’t want to lay something in and it turns out to be a homer. misses downstairs and that’s ball four. One of the things about that two-out walk, the base runner over at first base is going to have a very aggressive secondary lead. So, a ball down the line or into the gap will produce a two out RBI and those are the best. That is if you are the offensive side of it. Next to hit, Luis Machos. swinging a drive deep right field. One hops off the wall. Should be extra bases coming home. He will score. Mission accomplished there as he picks up the RBI to give him the lead. Really good swing right there. He got a pitch that he knew he could handle. Allowed himself to stay back just a tad bit longer and he hit the ball on the screws. So runner at second, two down. Digging in Patrick Bailey. That missed by a lot. And it’s one and0. And that one is inside. Love how this guy grinds out at bats. I mean, he’s down there at the bottom of the lineup in the nine hole, but he’s worked himself into a really good hitter’s count trying to pick up a two-out RBI. Man on second, two down. Swing and a highf fly ball deep left field. That one back. gone. He sends a rocket to left. His fourth home run of the season. It’s three nothing. Can be pretty dangerous when you fall behind in the count. 20. You’ve still got to try to find a way to keep that hitter off balance. Well, he wasn’t able to do it there. And the hitter did a nice job of turning that pitch around, not missing it in a hitter’s count. Ramos jumps out of the way of the first pitch. And that’s in for a strike. And it’s one and one. Two gone. Base is empty, but three runs across here in the top of the second. Highf fly ball right field. Walker under it and that’ll do it. The Giants strike for a pair as you get another look at the two-run dinger. It’s now three nothing. You’re watching Major League Baseball exclusively on the show. back here at Bush Stadium. Here comes Wilson Contrus. This has been a career year for him when it comes to driving in runs. Well, after putting up a nice inning on offense, got some runs across. This is where you look for the starter to go out there, have a shutdown inning. Don’t give that other team any hope. Uh you just hope that he can get through this inning, get the bats back up there while they’re hot. A three-0 lead is great, but you can’t get too comfortable. got to stay aggressive, keep attacking hitters, try to cruise through this ball game. Now the one and delivers outside. Next one is off the plate and it’s two and one. That one missed. First pitch strike from the pitcher, but then no panic at all by the hitter. Very patient, showing good discipline. Now he’s in the driver’s seat with a 3-1 count. 3-1 and he couldn’t come up with it. And that’s their first base runner of the game. Oh, that’s a really good take right there. And that’s just mentally prepared knowing that if it’s not on a TE, you’re going to take that pitch because you still have one more strike to work with. Not easy to lay off, but he did an excellent job in that plate appearance. Let’s go. Thomas Sajay-Z in the box now. No balls in a strike. Well, he had a pretty good look at that pitch and not sure exactly what tied him up there. Couldn’t pull the trigger and perhaps the best pitch he’ll see in this at bat to hit. straight going and two now. Swing and a miss. Got him to go up the ladder for the K. Well, take a look at the three pitch sequence here. Pretty simple in terms of putting them away at the plate. Once you’re ahead 02 as a pitcher, you can really expand the zone and see how aggressive that hitter is going to be trying to protect and battle. And right there, clearly he was in swing mode, but all you can do is hope to foul that off. Here’s Nolan Gorman. Check swing called strike. He’s been known to jump all over the first pitch. So that seems like a missed opportunity right there. Contraras at first, one gone. That’s in there. 0 and two. That front door slider is such a devastating pitch. You don’t want to get beat by the inside fast ball. So, you cheat a little bit and then by the time it gets there, it’s out of the swing plane. Now snap throw to first. And he just got his hand in there. Here’s the O2. Strike three. And that’s two in a row. Wow. That’s a tough call for the hitter, but the pitcher will take that all day long. not quite in the strike zone, but he found a spot that the umpire is going to, at least for now, allow him to get that call. So, hitters are going to have to make an adjustment, but pitchers are going to learn from those things and really try to exploit him if they can. And now the catcher comes up to Pedro Pah. That one fouled hard the other way. Let’s go. High in the air out to right. Moss gets under it. Squeezes it and that’s the inning. So, no runs on no hits, no errors and one left on base. End of two here at Bush Stadium. It’s the Giants three and the Cardinals nothing. Onto the third inning and now it’s the Giants DH. Raphael Desel. Liberator back to work. Hard hit to third. Zips it across and DeS is set down. Batting short stop Adam Willie Adam stands in fly out his first time in there and it’s 0 and one. Chris, when you take it to stadium, I think one of the things that I always contemplate is where are you? And in St. Louis Bush Stadium, you know exactly where you are with the arch in the background. They mow it into the lawn, the gateway arch. Basically goes from line to line and out towards center field and then the retired numbers, the championship banners. I mean, it really shows off the history of this proud franchise. Yeah, Boo. And this city is always just covered in red, especially during the baseball season, but they’ve added that ballpark village out there in left center field. Very accessible to come into this city, stay downtown, get to the ballpark, and take in a game in a great setting. Chapman in the box now as he looks at ball one. Second played appearance of the day for him. This is important. If he can go one, two, three here will be a very positive sign for him and for his team. That one lifted to left. Nukebar moving under it. And that is that. And we’re back as we go to the last of the third. And now Jordan Walker. Walker. And the first offering a fast ball for a strike. Next offering is fouled back and that one is downstairs. Yeah, the count one and two. Battling here as he fouls it away. That wasn’t an easy pitch to hit. It’s much easier to do damage against mistakes, but that’s not what that pitch was. Cut on and miss. Struck him out. He’s notched four strikeouts now. Thought it was a pretty good pitch. Top of the strike zone. We’re seeing more fast balls in that location. Hitters, especially with two strikes, have to be ready to pull the trigger. Now a chance for Victor Scott. And that one a little bit high. next offering is in for a strike. Foul ball. Next pitch, a slider that misses outside. One out. Base is empty. spoils that one and it remains two and two. Swing and a miss and he got him. Now five strikeouts for him on the mound. Boi just ran out of patience there. He took a couple of pitches to even that count up at two balls and two strikes, but that time chased outside the zone. And stepping in is the speedy Mason Win. off the mark there and that’s ball one. Fly ball to right. Machos makes the grab and that is that back here in St. Louis. And now it’s Wilmer Flores. Wilmer Flores and first offering is fouled off. All these giants doing a great job, Boo, of just waiting for the right pitch to come their way. And I’m seeing very patient at bats out of them. It’s not just the three runs they’ve already scored. On top of that, they forced this starter to throw more pitches than he wanted to at this point of the game. And that pitch count is impactful because if they can keep making him work hard out there, it may force the bullpen to get involved a little sooner rather than later. Close one. Doesn’t get the call. Now one and two in the air left field down the line and it hops over the wall for an automatic double. The automatic double kind of feels like enjoying cruise control in your car. Boo. You don’t need to keep the pedal down as you cruise into second base. Just no worries in the world. And you know what? He put a really good swing on that one. Runner in scoring position. No outs now. Drew Gilbert. He’s 0 for one. Check swing and he went strike one. And a strike. That pitch started in and ended up on the outside edge. Just changing planes and very difficult especially for a left-handed hitter to track. Runner at second. Nobody out. Here we go. Next pitch way upstairs on the ground to the left. Win handles, throws to first. That’s the first out in the top of the fourth. Up next for the Giants, second baseman Casey Schmidt. Now it’s the second baseman, Casey Schmidt, walked his first time. He’s got pop, which is a little sneaky because he’s so comfortable with taking his base hits to the opposite field, but he can jump you if you make a mistake. That one misses. Ball one. He’s been trying to tease the zone with that slider, but these hitters have showed patience not going outside the strike zone. that catches the top part of the zone and a count even one and one out in front and fouled to the left side. Flores over at second. One down inside. Almost got him. Here’s a two- two. Breaking ball misses down and away. One out and a runner at second. And ball four, two aboard. Well, they didn’t give him anything to hit. And now with runners on first and second, they’ve set up a double play opportunity. So, not a terrible result. First and second, one out. Luis Moss the next to hit. One for one with a double and a run scored. Swinging a foul back. That’s out of play. Runners at first and second with one gone. Top half of inning number four. Come on. In the dirt. That one ripped left field and it’s a one hopper off the wall. Should be extra bases. One run is in. The relay to the plate, not in time. He scores and the lead is up to five. Nicely done. Brings home two. Put a pretty good swing on that one as he drove it out to deep left. Didn’t quite have the right combination of launch angle and exit velocity to get it over the fence, but you’re never going to be disappointed with extra bases. Manager out of the dugout now. And it looks like we’ll see a change on the mound. Matthew Liberator out of the game. And this is one he’d like to forget. Back with a new arm after this. Chris Royoft into the game. Well, they didn’t get much length out of their starter in this one, so they’ve got a lot of outs to eat up in that bullpen. I think they’ll look for some length out of him right here if they can get it. Now it’s the Giants catcher Patrick Bailey. He’s already homered in this game. Fast for a strike. Still only one out here in the inning. Little bit high and now it’s even. One and one. Pickoff throw. Moss back on a dive. Delivers a pitch in for a strike at 95. Back-to-back fast balls in. That last one called for a strike. Probably go away, but look for him to come back in there to try to finish you off. Goes down looking. frustrating end to the at bat for the hitter and I’m sure that’s going to sit on him for a little while. You want to be ready to hit the fast ball. Sometimes you can overthink things and I think that was the case right there. Back to the leadoff spot in the Giants lineup and now Elliot Ramos. He’s 0 for one. That’s a strike. It’s 0 and one. And that’s in there at the knees. And a bat like this is almost over as it begins. In this situation, you have no idea what the next pitch is going to be. You just got to hope that you can make contact. Up and in. Going to count one and two. He’s great hitting the ball the other way. And that pitch did a good job to straighten him up a bit. Mission accomplished. Not close with that one. It’s two and two. line drive and that’s a base hit into center field. The throw is offline and he’s in to score. It’s 6 nothing. Couldn’t have timed it up any better than that. That was one of those swings that feels like you’re swinging an aluminum bat. It jumped off so hard, squared it up and it went screaming at 108 mph. man aboard. And here is Devers. DeS, the babyfaced assassin. And the first pitch misses for ball one. Fouled off to the right. One-1 now. Swing and a miss. And that’s strike two. Just threw that fast ball by him. Elevated. And if you’re not looking up in that location, very difficult to catch up to, especially with that velocity. And now it’s three and two. Great RBI spot here. Just got to stay focused on the pitch. The runner will be in motion, so something in the gap should definitely score it. Tap back to the mound. Slings to first. That’s the third out. Three runs on three hits, no errors, and a runner left to the bottom of inning number four. Now it’s the Giants six and the Cardinals nothing. And welcome back to the ballpark. Bottom four. And now it’s Ivon Herrera. Herrera drilled out towards left center field. That’s well struck. That’s back. Gone straight into the visitors bullpen. A gigantic blast. His 14th of the year. And they cut into the deficit. It’s 6-1. That one just sounded different. And it might have been the loudest moment yet. Man, my ears are ringing. I can feel that swing from the booth. With a low 90s fast ball, you have to live on the edges and hit your spots. If you don’t, you’ll get hit hard. Really good swing there. Patient, waited for it. Was like BP all over again. And up next for St. Louis, Lars Nbar. And that one hammered way back there. And it gets into the corner, but it’s foul. You know, these cards as this game goes on have to be more disciplined at the plate. So many of their outs have come from weak contact on pitches they’re chasing outside of the strike zone. You can’t do much of anything with those locations. And that’s been true again today. And that one misses up and in. Two and one. And as a pitcher, when the hitters are swinging at everything, you feel no need to challenge inside the zone. You just keep working the corners and expanding that strike zone and beyond, and they just keep eating right out of your hand. That one pushed to the left and fouled. Hard hit right side. Flores takes it himself. One away. That ground ball may have him back on track after the homer. Contras. And up to hit is Wilson Contrarus. He reached out a walk his first time. And that one fouled off. One out. Base is empty and a run in. We’re here in the bottom of the fourth. Fast ball for a strike at 95. Foul ball. It stays nothing and two. And down on strikes he goes. And that’s six Ks for him in this one. Now batting. Here’s the second baseman. Thomas Sajay-Z struck out swinging his first time. Right through there for a strike. Hoo. Over 80% of his first pitches are strikes. You’re doing that, you could have a really good day out there on the mound. And now it’s even up. Swinging a ground ball up the middle. Dives, but it kicks off his glove. No throw. And he’s on at first. So man aboard, Nolan Gorman now at the plate. And that one upstairs. Ball one. Two outs. Sliced hard but fouled down the left side. So a foul ball makes it one and two. So Jay-Z leads off first with two down to the inning. A change up missing. Two and two. Recognized that change up right out of the hand. Just spit on it. Spoils a two- strike pitch. And he’ll see another. Here’s a 2-2. Cut on and missed. And it’s a strikeout. And that is the inning. One for the Cardinals on the solo home run. And this is now a 61 ball game. It’s Major League Baseball. And it’s on the show. Back here in St. Louis. And now, Willie Adamus. Adamus goes 6’1, 29 years old, and he was born in the Dominican Republic. Come on, St. Louis. The shorts stop takes the ball. The guy at the plate could recognize Slider out of the hand. Didn’t stay in the tunnel very long in terms of depth and perception. He knew right away it was an off-speed pitch. Swing and a miss as he was late that time. Swanging a ball lifted in the air right field. He just missed it. And there’s one down. Now batting third base. Jappy steps to the dish to take his cuts. B for two in this one. Late with the swing there. Ellie threw that fast ball right by him. Gives him a little bit of confidence, but in the back of your mind, you got to think, is he trying to set me up for later in this at bat and he boots it, gets off a throw, and it’s in time. It wasn’t the smoothest play you’ll see today, but they still get the out. Wilmer Flores. So, up next, Wilmer Flores. first offering and it just misses. And a foul ball. Two down. Nobody on. Swinging a popup to Jay-Z. He’s there. He’s got it. And that is that. Nothing doing there for San Francisco. They lead it though 6-1. Back here at Bush Stadium. John Shabi with my buddy Chris Singleton. And set to get us started. Bottom five. Pedro Pah. Just missed. You know, these Cardinals just lacking discipline at the plate in this ball game. Chasing pitches has been a big part of the story. We’ve seen it quite a bit today. It’s been tough for them to make contact at times. and it just doesn’t look like they’re seeing it very well as a group. There’s a swing and a miss. And on the mound, you know, confidence has to be pretty high with all of the swings and misses. He’s had them eaten out of the palm of his hand pretty much all game. That’s down and in. outside and that’s ball three. Swing and a miss. Had him out front for the strikeout. He’s locked in at the plate when he’s using the whole field. He was out in front there. Just needs to let the ball travel a little more and his timing will be back on track. Good pitch for the strikeout. Jordan Walker digs in now. He was a strikeout victim his first time. That one inside. And that is ball one. Just missed. Was a good pitch there. Really had some run and finished little up and end just on the edge. And that’s one of those if you swing at it, he had a broken bat as you jog back to the dugout. pumps in a strike and now three and one the count swing and a ball lifted in the air left field pretty well struck that skips over the fence so it’s an automatic double that was loud contact and a no doubt doubled off the bat I didn’t know it was going to land in the bullpin though and he’s really improving his accuracy out there it’s almost like he tried to do One out, runner at second. And the batter now, Victor Scott. He struck out swinging at his first atbat. And it’s fouled away. this to third and foul ball. Man at second off the mark there and it’s one and two. O2 fastball way out of the zone. I think he’s trying to speed him up. Got to stay back. Off speed’s probably coming. Next offering popped in the air right field. Matoss settles under it and makes the catch and there’s two away. Now batting the short stop Mason. So digging in Mason Win. You talk about elite defensive players especially in the middle of the diamond and this guy is at the top of the list. and you played behind guys and they loved having your speed out there defensively. One of the things that we talk about is how much pitchers enjoy having those elite defenders behind him. Gets the slider in there for a strike. Hugan, the one thing about that is speed never goes in a slump and defense shouldn’t either. Hittingwise, you can struggle. You can lose your mechanics. But the thing that you can do consistently every single game is play great defense if you’re talented in that way. And this is what this guy does. Man on second, two down. Fights that one away. And the count remains 0 and2. This one in the dirt. Two outs and that’s outside and the count is two and two. Slice to right and that’s a fair ball. Walker around third. He’ll score and it’s an RBI single. It’s 62. Oh, here we are. Third time through the order. And this is where we see the OPS jump up. Manager might have to go to the bullpen a little bit sooner than he anticipated. Here’s the Cardinal DH. Ivon Herrera. He’s already homerred here in this one. Checks over to first. Back safely. He might want to steal second in this spot, but he’s dealing with a catcher that has one of the best pop times in the game. He needs to pick his spot very wisely. Swing and a miss as he was out front. One strike. And now one and two win off of first with two away. That misses two and two. hacks and misses. It’s a strikeout, but the RBI single pushes across a run. Now a 62 ball game. We’re back and they make a change to start the sixth. the new pitcher, Sunny Gray. He’s averaging more than one hit allowed per inning pitch this season, and that’s not where you want to be at all. So, we’ll see how he does here. And digging in for San Francisco, Drew Gilbert. Drew Gilbert. Check swing called strike. Action in the St. Louis bullpen. Andre Palante, the hardthrowing righty is up and loosening. And now the 01 and that’s down and away. off now. Fly ball to right center. Walker on the move to the gap and puts the squeeze on that one. One up, one down. Now batting second. And up next for the Giants, Casey Schmidt. First pitch doesn’t find the zone. No strike. Fly ball down the line. And that will drop foul. Base is empty. One away and we’re in the top half of the sixth. lifted in the air left field. Pretty well struck and there’s two away. Now batting rightielder. Two down, base is empty. Luis Moss will hit next and first offering is fouled off. left field. Nbar moves under it, pulls it down and he makes the catch. And that is that. Three up, three down that time. Hard of the order. 345 coming up. It’s the Giants six and the Cardinals two. And we’re back. Well, we go bottom six now. The left fielder Lars Nbar Ray back to work that clips the inside corner for a strike. Action in the pen down there. Number 63. The rookie right-hander is getting loose. Tang getting loose as well. Swing and a ball driven out to center. That one’s carrying. Holds it in on the warning track. Now batting first baseman Wilson. Wilson Contreras now up to the plate. He is struck out and he is walked. And first offering is fouled off. One down. Base is empty. Swings here and drives one well left field way back. And you can forget it. He’ll circle the bases. His 21st of the year. And they inch closer. It’s 63. He absolutely crushed that one. No doubt about that one, Boo. We knew it wasn’t coming back. That’s as big as it gets right there. You take advantage of a mistake. That is an ultimate. Here it is. Watch it. I’m going to jog around the bases. One down. Thomas Sajay next up for the Cardinals. Well struck left field back there and it’s gone. They do it again. Backto back homers. His second of the year and they’re chipping away. It’s 6-4. They wasted no time in that at bat. Swinging at the first pitch and he punished it. back-to back jacks and this club is fired up right now, Boog. I mean, this is the kind of thing where you really start to notice hitters in a lineup feeding off each other and the collective confidence just continues to grow. Here comes the manager out of the Giants dugout and he will make a move to the pen. That’ll do it for Robbie Ray and he’s not going to be happy with himself. New pitcher on the mound in a moment. number 77 taking over on the mound. Well, he’s had trouble at times keeping the ball in the park this season. Something to keep in mind here. All right, let’s go. Base is empty. One away. Now up for St. Louis. Nolan Gorman who’s 0 for two with a pair of strikeouts. Just missed. Gorman checks his swing. Appeal to third and he went around. That’s ruled the swing. This to third. Let’s go. Sends it to Flores. And there’s two down. Now batting catcher Pedro Pah. Here’s the catcher Pedro Pah. Fast ball for a strike. Base is empty. Two away. But two runs are in here in the bottom of the sixth. Swang and a miss. There’s the change up. More and more guys are looking to slug regardless of the count and this situation. We’ll keep a close eye on his approach. Good eye right there. And a swing and a miss. And that’s that. But two round tripers in this inning. The long ball was working. It’s now a 64 ball game. You’re dialed into the show. Top of inning number seven. And now the switch inning catcher Patrick Bailey. Fast ball for a strike. One. comes up empty. That’s strike two. Pitch in the dirt. It’s a ball in two strikes. Misses the zone for a ball. That was the sweeper. hit on the ground to the right side over to first. Gets the catcher by a step. Now batting leftielder Elliot Ramos. Here’s Elliot Ramos. Let’s go. And he hits a ground ball right side and two away to start the seventh. Now batting designated hitter Raphael De. And it’s Raphael Devers in the box. 0 for three in this one. First pitch and he just misses. Two down, nobody on here in the top half of inning number seven. Fouled off left side. Pitch misses and a count. Two and one. Check swing called strike. Look out. And it hit him. He had two strikes on him and he hit him. And now the shorts stop Willie Adam. Let’s win. Line drive and that should be extra bases. Around second is de’s third headed for the plate. Relay throw home. He’s safe as he gets his hand in. It’s 74. Went up there looking to be aggressive and got something he could handle. First pitch fast ball in a great spot to do some damage and he’s squaring it up nicely. Matt Chapman up to the plate now. 0 for three. A fly out, a ground out, and a strike out. Hit hard on the ground to short. Whips it to first. That ends the inning and they limit the damage. Giants get a run on the RBI double. It’s now a 74 ball game. Major League Baseball is on the show. Back here in St. Louis set for the last half of the seventh. Now it’s the right fielder Jordan Walker. Walker. Line drive. brings it in and there’s one down. He was all over that fast ball right there. I tell you what, if he gets under it just by a fraction of an inch or a little bit more, that’s way back. Victor Scott getting ready to hit. And that one is inside ball one. One and ripped on a line to center. Two away. Man, that’s one of those at bats where you have to remind yourself it’s about the process. He did everything right right there. Nothing to show for it, but in your mind, you have to convince yourself that it was a very good at bat. Quinn stands in now and watches strike one. The Giants leading by three here. The bottom of the seventh. Next offering is in for a strike. The shorts stop takes a ball. fouls it off. Still one and two on the ground to first. Flores the flip to the pitcher covering. St. Louis goes down in order. Redbirds down quietly and they’re on the wrong end of a 74 score back here in St. Louis ready to begin the eighth. And here’s the first baseman Wilmer Flores. And downstairs And a foul ball. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. Drew Gilbert the next to hit. Drew Gilbert that clips a corner. Swing and a ball lined out towards center and a base hit. just kind of sliced that one into center. Boo. I don’t think that pitch would have been called a strike, but he did such a nice job of pulling his hands tight to the body and just getting enough of the barrel on it to be hard enough back up the middle for a knock. Casey Schmid digs in now. Late on that fast ball. Gilbert leads off first with one away. Next offering upstairs one strike right through there for a strike. And it’s even up fouls it back with two strikes. Worm burner into the outfield for a knock. They get it in quickly. So, first and second now, one out. Two consecutive base hits for these guys here. There’s nothing cheap about the way he got that one through the infield. That was ripped. caught out in front and didn’t get under it like he would have liked, but definitely put a good swing on it. St. Louis, come on St. Louis. Moss, the next to hit, takes outside. When the skipper calls down to the bullpen, he’s expecting the guy to come in and get outs. So far, not getting what he was hoping for. And another ball. Could be some action here on this next pitch. Couple runners on. Probably a challenge pitch coming. One out. Runners at first and second. And that’ll load the bases. He did not take the bat off his shoulder the entire at bat. Patrick By. And now the catcher comes up to him, Patrick Bailey. And he’s already left his mark on this game. He certainly has, Boo. A two-run shot in the second inning. And that made an early impact on this game in a big way. In the air, right side. Walker gets under it. makes the grab. Runner tags for home. Throw is offline and he scores and it’s 84. Well, these players understand how important each run is, especially as you get closer to the end of the ball game. Nice job right there to get that runner in from third and add a little insurance. Manager out of the dugout and he’s going to make a change. Sunonny Gray will depart and the line not closed on him yet as he’s responsible for the runners on base. Back with a new pitcher after this. Now pitching a new pitcher in the game, Andre Palante. And as relievers go, he’s not a big strikeout guy. Tries to force weak contact, so command and execution are huge for him. Now it’s the Giants leadoff hitter, Elliot Ramos. I’m curious how he decides to attack on the mound. This guy at the plate has been great hitting under pressure this year. Traffic on the bases with one already in and we’re in the top of the eighth. Popped foul out of play off to the right. Highf fly ball lifted in the air right field brings it in and that’s the third out. Two men left stranded but they do push across one. Last half of the eighth coming up it’s the Giants eight and the Cardinals four. Back now. New pitcher on the mound as we roll into the bottom of the eighth. Number 63. and he’s got a nice lead to work with. So, he should come in throwing strikes, attacking these hitters. Now, it’s the DH Ivon Herrera. And a first pitch fast is in for a strike. Signs of movement in the Giants bullpen. Kaiwi Tang appears to be getting ready and I’m sure he’s feeling some nerves. This would be his major league debut. Lucasy warming up as well on the ground to third. Sends it across to first and a quick out number one. Up next for the Cardinals leftielder. Here’s the left fielder Lars Nbar 0 for three with two fly outs and a ground out. swings through that one. 0 and one. Base is empty, one away here. The bottom half of the eighth inning. Got him swinging for the strikeout. Went back to the fast ball and it was effective. Up next, two outs. Base is empty. Here’s Contras now. Contras. That one’s in there. 0 and one. And a slider misses down and away. Get another one. Next one in the dirt. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. Three up, three down. Inning over. Nothing doing there for St. Louis. They’re unable to make a dent in an 84 deficit. Back here at Bush Stadium. Now, here is Rafael Des. That is upstairs for ball one. Movement in the bullpen for the Cardinals. Number 49 getting loose out there. Greno getting cranked up as well. That one’s in there. And the count one and one. He must have been looking for something else cuz he gave up on that pitch a little early. was right down Main Street. Probably not going to see a better pitch to hit in this at bat. Whacked out to center field. That’s well struck. This one’s got a chance onto the track and he makes the catch. Oh, those can be pretty fun as an outfielder. Got to put it into his highest gear and go a long way to track that one down. Nothing better than that. You feel like a wide receiver playing football. Now it’s the shortstop, Willie Adams. First pitch misses. The shorts stop takes a ball. And another ball. That was a strike. And that drops in for a strike and it stays fair. Makes the turn and heads for second. The throw in. In safely, it’s a double and his second hit. Man, he just absolutely turned on that one. ripped it down the line. Nice job of staying his mechanics. And here is Matt Chapman 0 for four. Two ground outs, a fly out, and a strikeout. And the first pitch misses for ball one. Adamus the runner at second with one away. Next offering is in for a strike. Pickoff moved to second and he’s back in easily. close but called a ball and it’s two and one. He swings and fouls one off man at second. Still two and two after the foul ball. outside with a breaking ball. That’s a strike out for Chappie. And up next for San Francisco, Wilmer Flores. Wilmer Flores. First pitch doesn’t find the zone. And that one is in for a strike. The one-1 is fouled off. Looked like he got a little excited on that fast ball. Got to think to yourself, want to stay up the middle. that way. If you’re a little bit early, you hit it out of the ballpark. If you’re a little late, opposite field, not lifted in the air, right center field, makes the catch and that is that. No runs, one hit, no errors, and a man left. Five, six, and seven will lead things off in the bottom of the ninth. It’s the Giants eight and the Cardinals four. Back now as they hand the ball to a fresh arm to start the bottom of the ninth. Highway 10. San Francisco. He last pitched two days ago. Number 66. Highway 10. Leading off for the Cardinals. Second baseman. Thomas Jay-Z. And first offering is fouled off. He’s getting the barrel to the ball. He’s just got to work on that timing a little bit. One more time. Sliced hard but foul. Look out. That ball was smoked. Man, I am so relieved that they have this netting down the line just to ensure safety for the fans. Last thing as a player, you want to look up and see a fan get hit. That one ripped and it’s gone. Another homer. He’s done it again. His second homer of the game. And they cut into the lead. It’s 85. That’s their fourth home run of the game. They can’t stop. And they won’t stop hitting home runs in this one. Boo. They’re clearly feeding off of each other at the dish. Get as many high fives as possible. Man, this guy’s a ball of energy right now and having the game of his life. And stepping in for the Cardinals, Nolan Gorman. 0 for three with two strikeouts and a ground out. First offering and it just misses. Nobody on, nobody out with a run in. We’re in the last half of the ninth inning. Swang at a highf fly ball. Pretty well struck right field. That one hops against the fence into second and he’s got a double. Everything came together for him. got a fast ball middle of the plate, jumped all over it, absolutely smoked that ball. Now that sets up a huge atbat in this ball game. Runner in scoring position. No outs. Pah now at the plate. That’s too low. One and0. One on, nobody out. A run in here in the last half of inning number nine. And another ball. headed towards the corner and it stays fair. The run comes in from second and it’s now a two-run game. Well done. Narrows the deficit with the RBI there. Really important at bat coming up now. Here comes a skipper out of the dugout and he’s ready to make the move. Kaiway 10 is done and he’s responsible for the runner on second. So, the book isn’t closed on him yet. We’ll be right back. Here comes the closer here in the ninth, Ryan Walker. Well, he’s been a really tough guy to take deep this season. You usually have to string some hits together in order to get to him. Walker. So, up next, Jordan Walker, one for three. In the dirt. Tag save. He’s into third on the wild pitch. as a closer. He’s out there in that role for a reason, but even they lose the handle on one here and there, especially with all the nasty stuff coming out of bullpens these days. He’s making it a little interesting here with the tying run at the plate there. The home team trying to pull it out. And that’s downstairs and outside. Last couple of pitches, breaking balls away. I think he’s going to have to come firm inside to be able to open up that location if he wants to go back there later in this count. The tying run at the plate and a foul ball makes the count two and one. That one back up the middle and it gets through. In to score is the runner from third and it’s an RBI single. Back to a one-run game. It’s 87. Puts a run on the board and picks up an RBI. Timing on the swing was good. Able to shoot the ball up the middle. Didn’t square it up as much as he probably would have liked, but that’s a good approach paying off. And now let’s see if they force some action with good wheels on the bases. Yeah, the batter now, Victor Scott. This guy can absolutely fly. I think one of the faster players in baseball. Popped up and that’s foul. One-run game. Bottom nine. Drops a bunt down the first base side. Quick feed to second for one, but no throw to first as he’ll hold on to it. That’s a huge defensive play in the late stages of the game. It might not be the most challenging we’ve seen today, but it needed to be made. That’s helping your team. And the batter will be the shortstop, Mason Win. And Chris, what about the stolen base to try and get the tying run into scoring position? It’s definitely in play and you want to see it early in this count. This is a great dynamic right here. Speedy runner at first, thinking about taking second. Catcher with the pop time that leaves Jaws on the floor. This might get interesting. Boo. Yeah, that’s fouled off. This is one of those situations defensively where you can’t try to do too much. You got to make sure that you field the ball cleanly and get one out first. It’s going to be tough to get two with this kind of speed in the batters box. The shorts stop takes a ball. And a count one and two with two strikes. May see some movement over there at first base. Trying to stay out of the double play right here. You got it. Just off the outside part of the plate. Man, oh man. I don’t know how you take that pitch. That’s as close as it gets. 2-2 now. So, here we go. Base runner at first. Could be running on the pitch. He’s got good enough speed to steal the bag to get in scoring position, even if it’s a swing and miss at the plate. Got him swinging for the strikeout. Cardinals now with just one out remaining. Wow, just great bite to that slider. broke hard out of the zone and he just couldn’t hold up the swing. You know, as a hitter, that pitch is really hard to take and there’s just not much you can do with it. You know that, but you don’t want to get rung up by the umpire. So, they’re down to their final out. So, now here’s the Cardinals designated hitter, Ivon Herrera. Now, a screamer into the outfield. He’s got it. Ball game. And the Giants hold on to win a tight one as this one ends as a one-run ball game. When you win five in a row, the confidence just goes to another level. And you start to gain this momentum and you think that you’re never going to lose a game again because things are clicking up and down the lineup. Pitchers are pitching. The team is making the plays defensively. This is the kind of feeling. It’s not going to last all season long, but you want to ride it as long as you possibly can. Perhaps push it up to double digits.
