Brewers vs. Pirates Game Highlights (9/5/25) | MLB Highlights

The Brew Crew breeze through August with a franchise record 21 wins last month. And the magic number for the Brewers to clinch a playoff spot is down to seven entering tonight. While the Pirates have been quietly one of the best teams in baseball over the second half, winning 11 of their last 14 and sweeping a series against the Dodgers just this week. It is stand up to cancer night here at PNC Park. And what’ll be an emotional night for so many families that have come out to the ballpark here. so many survivors. We were hearing some of the stories and kids that have been impacted by cancer and it’s made such an impact well beyond the the scope of any baseball diamond. Oedo ready to begin his warm-up tosses on the mound. And the Pirates certainly have had the benefit of terrific pitching. You know, since they started on this run, winning 11 out of 14. They have the best record in baseball since August 20th. One, two on the way. And Terra knocks it into right field for a leadoff single. I love that Trisha was talking with Bryce Terang about homers, but that Pat Murphy says stay hard up the middle and avoid the slump. First and second with nobody out here in the first inning. Here’s Jackson Cheerio. Cheerio strikes out. It’s a big first one for Oedo. And now Conurus into the batters box. First and second, one away. Grounded to third and it gets past Triolo off his glove and into left. Terang will score. Brewers take a one- nothing lead. You can see this one coming. And Triolo is a gold glover. He was last year’s utility gold glove. He’s he’s kind of stuck in no man’s land. You see how just he’s in between with his footwork and he just gets eaten alive. Now here’s Xiao Freelick. Second and third. Now Freelick pops this up back of the infield rather bottom of the infield and foul Brown. They’re not picking up that fast ball as well as they hoped. 02 pitch swing and a miss. Struck him out with a slider. Couple of KS for Odo. Half inning. Brewers pick up an unearned run, but they strand two on the mound for the Milwaukee Brewers. It’s the former Pirate 24year-old Quinn Priest. 11 and2 and a 328 RA in 25 appearances, 20 starts. He looks for what would be a franchise record for the Brewers. 11th straight winning decision. Strike three call inside corner. Good morning, good afternoon, good nights. Priest off to a hot start. Here is Spencer Horwitz. And Horitz goes the other way. That is down for a base hit. And in the left field corner, Horitz rounds first, heads to second. Ball is bobbled, but he’ll stop there. Just trickled away from Isaac Collins, giving Horwitz a thought about digging for three, but it stays with a standup double. Moritz at third, Fam at first, two outs for Andrew McCutchen. There goes the runner. The pitch is lined into a leaping catch by Andrew Vaughn at first. If that ball gets over Vaughn’s glove, it’s into the right field corner. It’s extra bases, maybe scores, two, but Vaughn timed his jump perfectly and ripped it out of the sky. Brewers have a one out base runner here in the second inning. There goes the runner from first and Ortiz gets this to second for one. It is a double play. beautifully turned, bounces off the warning track and into the stands for an automatic double for Nick Gonzalez. So, it’s an eightgame hitting streak for Gonzalez and the leadoff man is a board for the Pirates here. Good start here. Now, O’Neal Cruz and Cruz with a ground ball up the middle for a base hit. Gonzalez around third. He will score and the Pirates have tied the game. Cruz hit a ground ball back up the middle just beyond the range of Terra. It was hit at 103 so it had a little speed to it back up the middle. Now here’s Joey Bart. One, two, swing and a miss. Bart chased it down and away. Actually foul tipped it into the mitt of Conturus. Prester brings home the O2 pitch and it’s a tapper right back to Priier. Gets it on a hop underhand toss to first. Takes care of Triolo and the inning is over. So Pster does a good job limiting the damage after the double and the base hit to start up the inning. He retires the next three. You gave me a pancake last time. It was way too dry. So, we got you some authentic Wisconsin maple syrup from Manatawalk, Wisconsin. Is that a quesadilla, Pat? It is quesadilla during the game. No candy. A lot of problems last time. You caused me a lot of problems. So, we’re I would love a Pat, we have a gift for you, too. You won’t use it. Beautiful. Thank you. You’re so welcome. Thank you for the quesadilla, Pat. I might put it on the quesadilla. There’s Tommy Fam with one on and one out. One-1 game. There’s a hot shot to left from Tommy Fam down for a base hit. Caram’s off the wall. Reynolds being waved around third. Here’s the relay throw. Not in time. And the Pirates have the lead. Tommy Fam continues his second half run. Two to one Pirates. The 10 lined up the middle towards second. Caught by Terang with a backhand. He made it onto the shortstop side of the infield. did Bryce and just got there in the nick of time that saved a run. Oedo sets outside the chest. Runner is going in the pitch. Swung on grounded back to the mound. Fielded by Ovo. Looks towards second. Doesn’t have a play and he lobbs it to first in time to retire Andrew Thawn. Fine play by Johan Oedo on the mound. Another one-two pitch and he swings and misses the slider. The strikeout for Johan Oedo is his fourth and going to the bottom of the fourth inning. He and the Pirates lead the Brewers 2-1. So it’s first and second and it brings up Nick York. You love a ground ball here and Gwyn can roll up a lot of those pitch. Ground ball over the mound to second base. Terang has it. Steps on the bag, throws to first and he got him. And there you go. There’s the double play. Over to third goes Cruz, but with two outs. Two and one the count. The Pirates leadoff batter in the pitch. Swinging a ground ball to short. Two hops right into the glove of Ortiz who makes a perfect throw across in time to get Jared Triolo. Trouble gotten into and then just that quickly gotten out of by Quinn with a couple of ground balls. Preachers looking for 11 consecutive wins and he has induced quite a bit of ground balls. So four out of six on the sinker. Here’s a ground ball to short. Charging it is Ortiz. Gets it on a big hop with a backhand. Fires to first and the inning is over. So there was the one, two, three inning for Priest that he was looking for. And the Bucks going to the bullpen now. Carmen Majinsky takes over for Johan Odo. Majki brings home the pitch and it’s a liner past Toritz it into right field for a base hit for Contras. So that one does get through. That one was hit hard off the bat of Contras at 109. There goes the runner. The pitch is a chopper over the head of Majensky. Charging it as the second baseman York and he has to eat the baseball. Freelick at first on an infield single. A very challenging play for the second baseman York. And now it’s going to be up to Bowowers. Bowers tonight is 0 for two with a strike out. Second and third and two outs. Two two Bowers to right field. That’s a base hits. In from third is Contrarus. Freelick being waved around. He will score and the Brewers have the lead on a two-run single from Jake Bowers. And now have the bases loaded. The two-run single by Bowowers brought home Contrarus and Freelick. Durban singled up the middle and now four pitch walk to Ortiz. Game could be on the line right here, but the dangerous Bryce Dang at the plate. Dang bouncing ball up the middle. Gonzalez behind the bag, makes the play and the inning is over. Quinn Prester came in with a record of 11 and two and a 328 RA and looking for a team record 11th straight winning decision. He was on the hook a moment ago. Now he and the Brewers have a one red run lead. Cuten strikes out here though for the second time tonight. Strike out number four for Prester. There’s two down now for O’Neal Cruz. Here’s the 2-2. Swinging a miss. He struck him out. Quinn Pster has gotten better as the night has gone along. Two good runners and Collins and Freelick on base. So this is going to be a this is going to be a mono emano at bat right here that could be a big turning point in this game. Two out for Vaughn. Line toward right field. Over is Reynolds and he makes the catch. Brian Reynolds, what a catch. Racing toward the wall in the right field corner. Ah, Brian Reynolds picking him up right there. Big, big play right there to keep this game at a 3-2. Quinn Pester has retired eight in a row and he is back to work against Joey Bart. That’s strike three down the pike. Bart is rung up, but Prester has retired nine in a row. Yeah, Priers is rolling. 10 in a row retired by Pster. Pitch line drive towards short. caught by Ortiz and it’s a 1 2 37th inning for Quinn Pster. He had to battle early, but boy did he get great late in the outing. Seven innings of terrific baseball. And now it’s going to take a clutch two out hit. This time from Terang. Brewers have had their struggles again tonight with runners in scoring position. Just one for 16 with a 2-1. And Terang sends this in to left to give Milwaukee an insurance run. An RBI single to make it 42. Runners at first and second with one out. Now here’s Andrew Vaughn. Vaughn bouncing ball up the middle. Gonzalez to his right. Throws it away and a run will score and it’s unraveled defensively for the Pirates in the ninth. He had a little bit more time with Andrew Vaughn running. Conturus never really stopped running. Rounded third and scored. It’s five to2 crew. One out away from being a very satisfying victory for the Brewers. kicks, delivers, and a little one hopper to third. Durban field spins and throws to first in time to get Cruz. And the Brewers take game one in Pittsburgh by a final of five to two here

  1. As it is if the Brewers end up playing 500 baseball the rest of the way The Cubs would have to go 17 – 4 to win the division. I don't see that happening because the Brewers play some 500 and below teams coming up. The Brewers have 20 games left in the Cubs have 21

  2. Pirates fan here. I know we are rivals, but I can’t help but root for the Brewers (when they aren’t playing the Bucs). You guys have a great team. Here’s a Pittsburgh fan sayin I hope you guys win it all. 🎉
