Just Takes One Swing | Royals Take Game One vs. Twins
There is Michael Wacha who makes his team high 28th start of the season tonight. He’s coming off a tough one gave up four runs in four and two thirds innings. What he’s done exceptionally well this year is limit hard contact, 33.9% hard hit rate. Fourth best in all of baseball. Two down. Luke Khaw at the plate check, swing pop up shallow left center , wit going out still going and Witt will drop it and Khaw is safe and his first inning continues for the Twins with Clemens coming up, Khaw stays and that’s outside ball four. So only walking about two batters per nine puts Clemens on Khaw down to second, austin Martín Martín hitting 284 pitch popped up on the infield and Massey makes the play so good pitch from Wacha and the twins lead runners at 1st and 2nd. That’s real nice to see him on the mound, isn’t it, Corey? Yeah, you know what Pablo is going to bring. He’s got the four seamer, the change up and the sweeper amongst some other pitches here. But I want to see how he looks this first innings. Two outs here in the home first Pasqua, the battle Pasqua carves , it left center field. Buxton dives and misses it’s off his glove. Martín picks up the ricochet in passino has got a two out double boy. Buxton came so close to making a tremendous catch. He had a long way to go. He did touch it. Garcia locked out last night zero for three, locked out for that entire Angel series zero for 10 on a weekly to short. Here comes Lee picking on the run and throws him out. Garcia has good speed and a nifty play to get the speed. He might Garcia, nothing, nothing Royals and twins and Royce, of course, homered here on last year was a fastball and that one did not come back and the second walk issued by Walker and Lewis is on and now Walker got his first strikeout of the night. He gets Lee with a high fastball. We might see him touch 94 maybe 95 but that’s plenty good to get whiffs on Minnesota’s ninth. Place hitter is Johnny Pereda was called up into right center and Cag Leone peels away for Kyle is hitting over two scoreless for Michael Watin. Now Frazier at him with 97 hits batting average 270 soft liner for Frazier. He’s got another hit. So career hit 1001 for adam Frazier after he hit the 1000 plateau with his home run last night. Great pitch right there sweeper got it inside for out number two for a strikeout for Lopez tonight. And there’s that sweeper effective once again, good plate appearance right at the bottom of the zone got some good rips in. That’s all you want on at 1st and 2nd. Now for the veteran Isbel who has had some nice nights against the Twins this year, it off the glove of Lopez will find it and flip underhand to end the inning Royals have the top of the order in the bottom of the third inning with no score. One big out to get. That’s opposite field hit pass. Pitino is 2 to 2, same identical spot that he hit his first double Lopez with it deep to left field. Martín Royals on top 2 to 0 two run shot for Michael garcia his 16th of the year. That’s how you Wade on a sweeper and it hung, it stayed up and he sat on it and he knew it was gone immediately. That didn’t have a big break to it. Walker retired eight straight. Grace Lewis walked and stole a bag his first time up. Walker and he is just using all of his pitches tonight. Great changeup. He finishes off a nine pitch at bat. So five strikeouts for Walker three consecutive and now that ends with a brooks lead base hit towards the right field corner and Lee on his way to second base will stop there and that is a one out double and the tying run is coming up and now a man in scoring position for Johnny Pereda who becomes the tying run at home plate. Wouldn’t this be a heck of a time for his first major league home run hug fair down the right field line. Lee will round and score. Pereda is trying for two clio will throw to first base and Pereda with his second at bat as a twin drives in his first run and the twins have just made this a 21 game, just kind of an off the end. Q shot that hugged that first baseline and got down in the corner long run for Cag Leone. Great sliding, grab his first game out in right field at the big league level in over a month. That is one to applaud. Sure enough. He had a long way to go. That does he have the speed to handle this ballpark? Absolutely, Blair off the end of the bat and Bobby Witt Junior chases it down to end the inning. Walker strands a runner at second. So the Royals lead is 2 to 1 as they come up in the bottom of the fifth inning. Let’s see how the top of the order handles things. Now with Mike Yastrzemski and there’s 95 by the bat of Jastremski second strikeout for Lopez and the toughest team to strike out of the game averaging fewer than seven strikeouts per night. 22 pitch. So I’m going to miss, he chased a sweeper off the plate and down , he goes third strike out for Pablo Lopez and he’s got two in succession here in the fifth inning. And it will be who’s having a very good night with the opposite field double in the first inning, opposite field single in the third. He w up scoring on the garcia Homer. Can he go three for three deep to center Buxton. Does he have room? He does right in front of the pa a deep fly ball to the wall for Vinny Patino 21 Royals in the sixth inning, austin Martín into the deepest part of this ballpark. He pounds out a two out extra base hit. Serpa is out of the bullpen facing Matt Walner, the Royals lead 21 in the sixth inning broken bat in between hop and it makes the play inning over, but now Bobby Wood Junior has not returned to the field and Michael garcia has moved from third to short. So a couple of fly ball outs parade is the hitter after the game on Sunday and that is ball four. So Pereda draws a two hour walk and the tying run is on, go ahead run coming up being Byron Buxton got him swinging with a high heat. So Schreiber gets the job done tonight. He finishes off the inning for zerpa Royals back to the bullpen for Daniel Lynch, the fourth left hander five and two on the year. Er, a 283 doesn’t strike many out, 21 Royals lead towards the hole and through another hit against lefty for Trevor Larnach. He has done just an outstanding job in that regard all season long, slow roll to third. Lofton charges. Scoops makes the play very nicely done by Nick Lofton who entered the game as a defensive replacement. Broken bat, slow roller. Massey’s got it and that’s a nice infield play two gone but Alvin moves to third and now he’s just 90 ft away with the tying run. The batter is Austin Martín dribble to the right side. Pitino’s got it in the heel of his glove inning over Taylor Clark. Strands Alvin at third. Ninth inning Royals lead 2 to 1 and Estévez comes into pitch. Matt Walner, Royce Lewis brooks leads down Blair to shallow left center. Garcia ranges out Isbell and sliding grab. Oh May. Oh my. What a play Isbel just took charge and fortunately garcia saw him and peeled off. The twins are down to the final out. It’s going to be brooks Lee outside ball four. So Lee draws a two out walk and now Mickey Gaspar Blair to left center is Bells there ball game. Tom the Royals take the opener from the twins behind a two run homer from Michael garcia
Maikel Garcia’s two-run home run was all the run support Michael Wacha and the bullpen would need in the series opener vs. the Twins!

1 GAME BACK!
Royals competing for a wild card spot and can't even draw a decent crowd? Pathetic really especially with all the controversy over a 'downtown' ballpark.
Still 1.5 games back.. 😬😬😬

Love those uniforms
