Jon Gruden Drops Truth Bomb About Steelers …

They could never make me hate John Gruden. I know the NFL had that bounty against him. Wanted to get rid of him and it worked. But the players still love him and I think most people still love him. And he was dead on when he was defending the Steelers right here. Here’s the quote. Everybody right now is saying, “Hey, the Steelers don’t have any white outs.” BS. Wait until you see Roman Wilson, the guy I’m most excited about. I freaking love Roman Wilson. I loved them at Michigan. So if they go 11 personnel, you’re going to see Calvin Austin, DK Medaf, and I think you’re going to see a lot of Roman Wilson. Well, there you go. I mean, John Gruden is pretty knowledgeable about football. People were claiming that I was hyping up Roman Wilson and, you know, he’s not this or that and just because he had a good preseason doesn’t mean he’s going to be good. You know, all this nonsense. And I never said that he was going to be great because he had a couple catches in preeason. I said he was going to be great because he is fantastic when it comes to creating separation, which is the most important trait for a wide receiver. You can look at the stats in Michigan and then you know Tyson Campbell $76 million corner one-on-one Roman Wilson still puts a good route and catch on him in the preseason. So yes, it is just preseason but he can do it versus highlevel guys. His routes are smooth. He’s fast. 439 ran right past Jamal Dean and Jamal Dean’s like a track star. So again, I know it’s just preeason but he’s doing work against quality proven corners. So, when we talk about the Steelers going out and getting this name and this name at wide receiver, it’s not necessarily a desperate topic because if they get Jacobe Myers, great. Jacobe Myers is a perfect fit for Pittsburgh, but they don’t necessarily need Jacobe Myers because they have Roman Wilson and he might just pop off week one. Like, if you think about it, DK Mechaf and Sauce Gardner, they’re going to be going at it. Sauce Gardner is covering DK Mechaf wherever he goes. And then you got Roman Wilson versus Michael Carter. And Michael Carter is not coming off a great year. And Roman Wilson is ready to explode. And he’ll get those 10 yards, 10 yards, 10 yards, 15 and quietly having a 100 yard game. I’m not surprised if that happens versus the Jets. So yeah, Roman Wilson like he’ll put a lot of the doubters to rest. Let’s just say that. And I think he’s going to do it a lot faster than what some people may think. Um, so it’d be great if the Steelers went out and got another wide receiver for depth because you never want to be one injury away out of position. But again, John Gruden is dead on here. Shout out to John Gruden. Love that guy. And uh, I’m super excited to see Roman Wilson versus Michael Carter II. But let me know what you guys think about Roman Wilson. Hopefully y’all enjoyed this video, though. That is it for me on this one. Peace.

  1. I like roman and expect big things from him but the wr core is still weak. Still hoping for a trade rumor to come true. And im not excited about the run game. To me, Warren is a good #2 not a #1

  2. Roman is amazing go watch his Michigan tape he is a route runner with speed after the catch I compared him a cross between santonio Holmes and Emmanuel sanders he going to be tough to guard

  3. 😂😂😂…he's 3rd or 4th at best on a Steeler team that has 1 wr…Im not gonna hold my breath on the games he will b in…im guessing he's on the IR by game 7

  4. I like Roman and hope he does have a productive season, but to me he’s a WR3/slot guy to compliment Pickens and Diontae when he was drafted. At the time it was Calvin who was the question, coming off a rookie season where he was injured. Pickens has been replaced by Metcalf. I think they still need a replacement for Johnson, someone who gets open through route running rather than speed or physicality. We essentially have 4 WRs including Scotty Miller. Skoronek is a ST guy. If we can swing it, I’d love to get Jakobi to complete the room.

  5. I wonder if Pickens behaved like a mature team-guy, if the Steelers would’ve kept him (and maybe get DK, too). We all know how deadly that would be to opposing defenses, obviously. That would be the most dynamic pair in black and gold since Swann and Stallworth.

  6. I pray all the hyper optimistic takes are correct & my gut is dead wrong, but …

Just pop on the all-22 & he does a lot of things I really hate bc it just doesn't work at the NFL level: head and shoulder fakes at the top of routes, he's not a "great" separator overall/struggles vs press, & wasn't good vs zone — which he'll see a majority of the time. He's already 24 & does a lot of things you hope 24 year old WRs have nipped in the bud.

To demonstrate what I'm saying: Roman graduated HS a year AFTER George Pickens. Pickens had an 1100 yard rec season in the NFL during Roman's most productive year in college (789 rec yards).

The entire NFL (outside of Pittsburgh) expects both the diminutive slots to have under 500 rec yards & 4 TDs. Most outlets have Austin projected to be the 94th (or low 90s) most productive WR & for Roman to be the 99th (or high 90s) most productive WR.

Elic Ayomanor is starting for the Titans btw. Glad they overpaid for an Ohio State version of DeMarvin Leal instead: good run defender, strong, but w/ little pass rush upside.

  7. He will be fine. He is just super young. People are spoiled. We need patience to develop these dudes. He will block, he will do the dirty work and he can fly. He is the perfect "#2" if there even is such a thing.

The TEs are going to be #2 in this offense. We need Roman and Cal to be solid #3s and they can be

  8. Aaron Rogers is exhibiting physical movements of an aging man. You can trust me because I'm an aging man. I doubt he lasts a quarter of the season.

  9. The Steelers have Always been able to find sleepers at WR. I’m not really worried about the Receivers, but the Rest of the offense. The defense is better stacked than Last season.

  10. Let's be real. You can have the most TALENTED receiver on your team (for example…George Pickens) and have the worst quarterback (Trubisky & Pickett) and that receiver is vulnerable of fading away or getting traded. We traded arguably the most TALENTED receiver in the league to the COWBOYS. Deonte Johnson had 8 TDs Ben's last season, THEN, ZERO with Trubisky & Pickett!!! At that point everyone started talking bad about Deonte…"He drops the ball." I can tell you from experience, receivers need to see the ball coming their way routinely…you can't target a receiver once or twice after the game is over and they've been running meaningless routes all day. Claypool, Van Jefferson, JuJu, Martavius Bryant all should still be Steelers!

  11. Wow . . . You’re saying the NFL had a bounty on Gruden because he was fired for getting caught being a complete asshole? Calling people gay, calling them racial slurs, sending some of the most unprofessional emails to staff and other folks. What is wrong with you? Are you showing him support simply because he talked nice about the Steelers and agreed with you about Wilson ?

  12. Roman is a brandin cooks/ty hilton type receiver. Not the biggest guy, not the fastest but is great in tight space at creating the space, and also will have 10 catches a game if you throw to him. Tbh Roman is the type of receiver Tom and bellicheck always loved, because he's the kinda guy you literally just have to throw at to end up with an effective piece. Will he ever be Justin Jefferson or AJ Brown… No.

  13. I'd be careful using Gruden's player takes to support your position. He's a legendary coach but is one of the worst talent evaluaters ever.

The majority of hisdecisions in the draft as the defacto GM of the Bucs/Raiders were downright awful.

  14. Uh, Gruden got turfed because he’s a racist. He made blatantly racist and homophobic statements. On tape. And emails. As clear as day. So stop your spin.
