[Music] What’s going on, Jerome? Beautiful Saturday at birds are chirping and stuff and it’s time for another Vikings news dump. You can just sort of feel it feel it in the air. The the crispness like it’s down to like 40 at night. It’s fantastic. And well, actually, it’s that time of year because we got Well, this is like fake fall or false fall because it’s going to get hot again and it’s going to get cool again, right? But the leaves are changing. Birds are chirping and stuff. It’s great. It’s fantastic, man. And Minnesota find Vikings at the open season. Monday Night Football. Yes, Joe Buck. Yes, Troy Aman. But uh against the crooked Chicago Bears in Chicago, Vikings put out this great graphic. It’s good. What’s that bear going to do? He’s going to get on the boat. He’s going to sail the seven seas. Is go rate England? Don’t know. Deno, right? Also I always wonder this. So I I feel like well so first off uh a bear the Louiswis and Clark I may be just completely making this up but Lewis and Clark when they were uh exploring out west you know Pacific Northwest they initially brought elephant guns because they thought that they would find mammoths but they were also some of the first European settlers to see like grizzly bears. Imagine what that was like. just like you’re you’re going out in the woods and it’s like man this is some beautiful country bear and I don’t know like bears sort of fascinate me right the the whole grizzly thing grizzly thing polar bears black bears and uh we were we were golfing in Wisconsin don’t ask me why uh once and I I remember it it was a it was a bachelor party so there’s a bunch of people maybe getting after a little bit in the morning and everyone’s just like, “Oh, there’s a cute little bear.” Just because this little bear cub came running in front of the tea box and everyone was cool about it, but no one no one except for me was just like, “Wait a minute, where’s the mother?” So, we everyone got in the car just like, “Booked it. Gone, Dunzo.” But I uh I I always had this odd phobia of well first off quicksand because every everyone every kid who grew up in like the 90s thought that quicksand was going to be a much larger part of your life. It’s not. Also just being mauled by a bear, right? Cuz you see like the bear hands and bear claws. It’s weird, right? How did humans uh take over the planet and not bears? Like if you gave bears opposable thumbs and ability to use tools, it’d be crazy. Yeah. G give a Ryobi uh drill set to a bear and watch him just build society. It’ll be good. All right. Also, I don’t know why we’re talking about this, but uh so the ESPN experts sort of split. So what is this? One, two, three, four, five, six for the Vikings and five for the Bears. Hey, I’ll take it. Actually, no. I wish it was reverse. I wish it was 11 Bears, zero Vikings. But here’s who’s invited to the Korean barbecue. Stefania Bell. Ding. Uh you have uh Jeremy Fowler, Chris Fowler, too. We’ll invite them both. Uh Dan Graziano. Uh Kaylor. Yeah. Uh Reed and Wickersam. Well, Wickersam sort of has to pick the Vikings because he he’s the one who wrote that hip piece about the Bears in his book quarterback. Yeah. We we also we we’ll get to another Bears head piece in a little bit. Uh but everyone else picking the the the Bears, Mike Clay. Well, no to Eagles fan Mike Clay. Uh Bowen. Uh did didn’t Bowen play for the Bears at one point? I don’t know. Uh also Pam Maldonado. How could you? Pam. Pam. Pam. All right. So Pam uh was a betting expert on was it Von? I want to say also poker player. Respect. Uh Moody. Yeah, I got I got Moody’s for you. Uh then uh theory. Come on. Yeah. Theor theory of a picking a loser. The Bears. Okay. Not not going to lie. I actually I can’t say this in public, but I uh if the Vikings had ceased to be right or if the Vikings had moved to San Antonio, what are you going to do? You going to root for the San Antonio Vikings if Red Mcomes had his way? Uh, probably it’d be like rooting for the Dallas Stars if you’re a hardcore Northstars fan. Doesn’t doesn’t seem right, you know? I might have picked the Bears, right? I don’t know cuz I I love and respect the people of Chicago. Hardworking city. And I don’t know. Like I feel like the Bears are still like that throwback sort of lovable losers even though they had that 85 season. I don’t know. I don’t know. it. I I I’ve actually thought about support maybe Bears, probably Raiders, you know, especially since they’re in Las Vegas now. There you go. Anyways, actual football stuff. Uh so the the availability of Christian Derosaw coming back from that horrific knee injury as well as Harrison Smith with an unspecified Wow, that is a lot of teeth. uh the unspecified illness that Harrison’s been dealing with, which I’m start I’m starting to it’s it’s not something that I can run with yet, but I I’m I hate to be mysterious, but except I can’t talk about it. Uh but I’m led to believe that it is one thing that it when it it’s going to be revealed, right? And when it’s revealed, you’re just like, “Oh, okay.” I don’t know. Vikings injury report though. Good news. Christian Darasaw upgrade to full participant gueststimation. Vikings had a walkth through, but again, guesstimate if it was a full practice. Christian Darasaw full participant, which is great. Harrison Smith went from DNP Thursday up to limited gueststimation on Friday. Good to see. And with Daras and Harrison, it may have been built in that they would miss the first practice of the week. Uh Harrison did participate in the walkthrough on Wednesday. Durasaw also got a ton of reps uh Wednesday as well. Uh obviously the the Saturday practice, the third practice of the week as well as injury designations will be key. Uh I think they’ll both be listed as questionable except I think they’re both on track to play on Monday if that makes sense. Uh Naylor and AVG both full participants which is good to go and Xavier Scott and Elijah Williams DMP uh probably were going to be scratches on Monday night anyways. And for the Bears so the the key one is TJ Edwards. So DMP two days in a row uh with a hamstring and so even if he goes on Monday, he’s not going to be 100%. TJ Edwards uh tackle machine for them. Second on the team in tackles last year behind uh Kevin Bard uh stud safety. So I mean could be some yum yum time in the middle of the field as well as in the run game. Uh also Jaylen Johnson, Kyle Monagy uh both limited uh two days in a row. Uh we’ll see about the last day and uh designations after Saturday practice. Also speaking of bears hit pieces. So th this was a big big to-do on social media on Friday. Tyler Dunn who so Tyler Dunn’s first off we need to say this. I I I like Tyler Dunn. Yeah. He’s very well sourced. Uh his long long pieces are fantastic. Uh and yes, former Packers beat writer. Yes, we know this. Uh but also I think he’s be right for the Bills too. Uh but this Caleb piece was so we talked about Wickers Sham earlier and his his new book, you know, talks about how Caleb Williams as dad tried to get to the Vikings and that the Bears are basically a place where quarterbacks go to die. This is basically the the the polar opposite of that. This is a hip piece on Caleb, right? And our series House of Dysfunction begins at Golong. First up, the curious case of Caleb Williams and 2024 season for football hell. If you can’t sacrifice, there’s no substitute for the work. That’s something he needs to learn, right? So, I’ll say this, like skimmed it. All right. And it it does seem like it’s definitely one-sided and all it specifically says in there that Caleb Williams as well as Ryan Ples weren’t allowed to comment by the Bears, which is fine. Um, but also most of the sources, uh, there’s even on the record sources, which is kind of fantastic, but they’re they’re all former coaches. Uh, you know, they’re all, uh, guys are trying to save their own bacon, trying to make themselves look good, uh, after this and save face and save their careers from from this mess. But this one’s good. Uh Thomas Brown, uh former assistant on the Bears, uh Thomas Brown tried to explain something to his starting quarterback and no, Williams was not having it. An auto response kicked in as he had done many times to uh many times to many coaches all season. Williams turned his head and walked away. Uh that’s what you’re supposed to do, turn the other cheek, but some guy said that. Uh Shane Waldron, absolutely like nutlo worst offensive coordinator in recent NFL history before getting fired as OC used to stay quiet. Not Brown. Not a stern, blunt, old school coach believed his 22-year-old crossed a line of disrespect. The typically calm coach lost it on the headset. Another Bears assistant coach recalls Brown pressing the mic to finish his conversation. Get your ass back here right now. Don’t walk away when I’m talking to you. Unfazed, Williams sacheted away, which I don’t know. Sachet. All right. Right. Right. Back to the huddle. The Bears lost six to three. Uh that’s when you knew the world was coming to an end, one coach said. Yeah. All right. So, uh go check out Tyler’s piece. Like both both parts are are really solid. And I don’t like obviously there were some sources former coaches with axes to grind. Sure. And the truth is always somewhere in the middle, right? I I think that the Bears last year top from top to bottom was a mess in general. Uh is Caleb to blame for some of it? Yes. Are coaches and polls to blame for some of it? Absolutely. Right. And we we’ll see what what Ben Johnson can do uh with the with the Bears and Caleb this year. Uh, speaking of Ben Johnson, the Bears, NFL.com, uh, NF, uh, 2025 NFL week 1 bold predictions, blah, blah, blah. Mark Ross, Mark Ross, Mark, uh, Mark Rick Ross, the boss, uh, he’s invited to the Korean barbecue. Uh, Vikings D suffocates Bears offense and Ben Johnson’s head coaching debut. The Bear the Bears went a complete overall this offseason with the hopes of getting Caleb Williams to play at a high level in year two. The biggest moves were hiring head coach Ben Johnson, bulking up the offensive line and drafting a pair of passing pass game weapons early. Coulson Lovelin and Luther Burton the third. Coulson is only famous because of Justin uh because of JJ McCarthy. I keep mixing those two up and LB3. Oh sh you hear that? Luther Burton the third has changed his number again. He’s going to wear number 78. Cool. Uh their week one opponent, however, made some moves of their own, most notably in the trenches. Williams will have to wait another week for his breakout campaign to ensue uh as Brian Flor’s defense dominates by holding the Bears to less than 20 points on Monday night, recording three sacks and forcing Williams into two turnovers. Woo! Woo! Absolutely love it. And this defense, man, I I know all eyes are on JJ McCarthy and this offensive line, but this defense is going to be out of this world. and continuity on a side of the ball is very rare to find. So, the fact that the Vikings have had Flores for three years now and the veterans have bought in, you can get a pass rush with the Dline and I I think that Granard is going to be in for a special year. Same thing with AVG and Dallas, but I think Grard is going to win defensive player of the year. I’ve said it. I put some jelly beans on it. I mean it. We’re good to go uh in that regard. That’s going to be great, man. It’s going to be really fantastic. Also, I believe in diamond Dallas Turner. Vikings comp’s uno era season openers. Outside linebacker Dallas Turner became just the second Viking to record a sack in week one of his rookie season since 1982. Joining well, it’s when they started recording sacks. I’m sure that rookie Carl Eller or rookie uh Alen Paige recorded a sack. Joining Brian Robinson recorded 2.0 sacks against Atlanta on September 9th, 2007. I think that Dallas Turner gets a sack on Monday night. I think Bernard gets after it. I I think this entire defensive line. I I mean, like I I said, I think that, you know, Rick Ross is obviously uh invited to the Korean barbecue, but only three sacks and only two turnovers. Give me six and four. Cruising down the street in my 64. That’s right, baby. That’s right. Also, oh, uh was going to make another point about Caleb Williams. So, I I know that there’s a lot a lot of talk about Caleb versus JJ McCarthy. It’s going to be a big story line because this 2024 draft class quarterbacks wise is going to go down to history as one of the more interesting ones, right? And you know, they did that 30 for30 to Marino about that 1983 quarterback draft class, but I what if Caleb turns into a bus and you know, Jane Daniels is already a star? You know, Drake May has the tools to get there. I I think PennX Jr. can certainly spin it. I think JJ McCarthy obviously has a chance to become a super supernova superstar here. Uh Bo Dixs is putting up numbers with Stupid Ashon Payeyton. So, I mean, this entire first round is going to be interesting. Also, I love that the Packers drafted Jordan Morgan, uh a backup tackle who’s always hurt instead of Cooper Dejon. like like they they literally could have had the white cornerback which would been the most on brand thing for Packers fans ever and he also he’s really damn good except for signaling fair catches but they’re like now let’s take the backup offensive stack who was always hurty anyways but yeah I’m I want to believe in Caleb Williams right and as a quasi USC fan watch every single snap of him over the years and I I I don’t know if it’s going to work out with the Bears. I just really don’t. I I just feel like his personality and Ben Johnson’s personality don’t mesh. Like it it is far from a Kevin Oonnell, JJ McCarthy relationship. Again, it doesn’t have to be. The quarterback head coach relationship does not have to be that. But I feel like there’s friction, dysfunction, and everything is going to come to a head at some point. But Caleb Williams, welcome on in. Quarterback three in two years behind JJ McCarthy and Max Brosmer. We’re all stars now on the Bro Show. It’s going to be good, man. Also good. So, Adam Drum, Ezekiel the Monday Night Football. I I love that the Adam return is like the ninth biggest story of Monday Night Football. Yeah. Uh but our guy Sean Borman listening to Kayfan. I’m really the talking about his return. I’m really excited to be a part of his journey. Adam Thielen on Vikings quarterback JJ McCarthy. The thing that sticks out to me most is his attitude and mindset. You can feel the energy and passion for the game. He has great pieces around him to help support him. Uh and the said that he and McCarthy had six throwing sessions this summer. So two offseasons ago had one this time around. Had the photo shoot for Unreal Co. Uh but also dudes can just do things. Get kids got to throw the rock. Have a catch. Have a catch, Dad. Uh, but I I I think that the wanted to come home and sort of pressing the issue with Dan Morgan and the Panthers. I really think it was about JJ McCarthy. And I I think that McCarthy’s presence led for the to push for a trade, take the pay cut, um, eliminate his incentives. It’s like, I want to be part of something special, right? Because I mean, let’s be honest, if Kurt Cousins or any other quarterback really were here, I don’t think that that the trade happens. Even though the Vikings would have that quarterback need, I just don’t think it happens. So again, that speaks to the magnetism of Jonathan James McCarthy. Noted Bears fan now. Not Bear Slayer. Like Leonardo DiCaprio and the Revenant. Now that I say that, no, the the bear won, didn’t he? I don’t know. I never saw the movie. Actually, I did. It was a good movie. Also, speaking of JJ McCarthy, Stephen A Steven A. Smith, who you know that when the Vikings have a 14- win season, get the one seed, go to the Super Bowl, win the Super Bowl with JJ McCarthy, it’s going to be turned around. I always believed in JJ McCarthy, please. Uh, but yeah, Stephen A talking first take. Sam Darl threw 35 touchdowns over 300 passing yards and you let him walk out the dough uh because of some rookie from Michigan. Yes. Yes. And here’s the thing. Before the last two games of the year, I would have agreed with Stephen A on Sam Darnold. I even said on this channel, I’m sure people have clips of it. It’s like JJ McCarthy can be really good, but Darnold is good now. Like you want JJ McCarthy to be at the level that Sam Darnold is going. Oh, Travis Kelce just scored. Woo. Yeah. Uh but also the the last two games were just so ass bad, right? Actually, I think that the worst case scenario for the Vikings would have been if they lost in the playoffs, but a and against the Lions. But Darnold looked good or he he looked better than average, right? But because Darnold after that Packers game when they they’re spraying him with the water just like I’m in. I believe magic Harper ride but who knew that that was the peak that that was the false summit whatever whatever Stephen name I how do these shows get ratings I don’t know lastly fantastic news uh so Randy Moss completed cancer treatments rang the bell which is a fantastic tradition so if u you are someone that you love uh has gone through cancer treatments a lot of facilities once you complete them. Ringing the bell. That’s right. It’s a It’s fantastic. It’s a moment that gets you choked up all the time. And Randy Moss ringing that bell almost uh like nine months after his initial diagnosis and announcement. It’s really fantastic. Really fant. Also, I love that he’s wearing the the team Moss hoodie and and uh hoodie and beanie from from earlier. That’s great. Fantastic, man. So, props up to 84. Uh, many more years on TV. Randy Moss is a fantastic TV, leading the skull chant, doing all that stuff. And hopefully Randy gets to see the Vikings win a Super Bowl. His guy Justin Jefferson, his guy JJ McCarthy. Let’s go.
