REDS POSTCAST: Cincinnati Reds FAIL to get NEEDED Big Hit and Look LIFELESS vs New York Mets
This is the Reds post, your instant game reaction for the Cincinnati Reds, part of the Locked on Podcast Network, your team every day. Good evening, Reds fans, and welcome to another edition of the Postcast brought to you by Lockdown Reds and the Lockdown Podcast Network, your team every day. I’m Tim Daniel. I am a lifelong Reds fan. I’ve been podcasting about this team for 5 years at publications such as late night reds and the riverfront. And I want to thank you all for spending some time with me tonight as we discuss an ever frustrating loss yet again as the CSA Reds lose to New York Mets 5 to four. If you are just checking my show off for the first time, welcome. We are so glad to have you. Please be sure to hit that notification button here on YouTube so you can only get my show after every game while the 21 we have left, but you can get Jeff and Steve Monday through Friday on Locked on Reds as well. Today’s episode is brought to you by 5Hour Energy. Try to book the trip of your lifetime. Go to fiveourenergy.com 5h.com for more info. Masters tournament is excluded. On tonight’s show, more of the same. Cincinnati Reds do what the Cincinnati Reds do as they lose a game with multiple opportunities to win it. Andrew Abbott continues to see some struggles and it’ll be back to this the way we see on a year-to-year basis for him. And Tyler Stevenson had a nice moment. about all I got to say about it. So yeah, we got that as well. All that and a whole lot more. Let’s get started. This is what you’ll be talking about. Bases load in the sixth. Couldn’t come through. Bases loading ninth. Couldn’t come through. That’s it. This is uh pretty brutal. And uh tonight sucked. There was a lot that went wrong tonight. Uh obviously starting down three nothing certainly doesn’t help anything and that’s the part that’s really irritating but obviously other things too. Uh starting with one two chances with the bases loaded and you couldn’t get anything done. Two, your superstar player watches strike three down the middle again with a bat on his shoulder with a chance to win the game. Let’s mention the superstar before that struck out as well when you had bases loaded and no outs against Edwin Diaz who had to change his shoes in the at bat and you couldn’t come through. Um yeah, this is uh this is irritating. And like nine hits tonight looks good, but 11 strikeouts again. This team is uh this team is really awful. It’s really bad. And once again, more more managerial decisions that make don’t make a lot of sense. Um, you know, having uh Espanol running there is uh, you know, you have him go in there in that situation. All you can do is get these little hits that you think is going to like kind of get you to go a long way and they couldn’t make anything happen. Um, it’s more the same. We’ve talked, we’ve had this story, we’ve had this conversation a million times. A million times. I don’t know how many more times we can have this conversation about this about a game like this. It’s oh man, they had their chances and they left too many guys on base and they couldn’t hit with a scoring position and they lost. I just I heard Gavin Lux on Mookie Bets podcast about like how like you know the city really needs it and we’re young and we’re going to figure out they’re not young anymore. I’m sorry they’re not young anymore. I mean, the Ellie Mlan group, I understand Mlan missed the year, but they’re coming up on three years in the big leagues. You know, at some point, you’re not young. Tyler Stevenson’s been to league since 2020. You know, I mean, I get it. You know, the Marte McLeanes and Ellies, you know, they’ve had to deal with their own stuff. Ellie’s been here through everything. I mean, he’s played non-stop, which is his problem. Um, you know, it’s just super irritating. And then, you know, the bullpen tonight was good. Tried to give the game away. Connor Phillips certainly made things difficult on himself. Um Nick Martinez was good for his couple innings and Billy Pagan was solid in his inning. Um I don’t think there’s a lot that’s going to kind of get make this benefit. So at this point, this is just a thing where this this front office, this management, they got some decisions to muse. Yeah, Diane, I completely agree. Young’s not an excuse anymore. Um, Williams is here. TJ Fredo’s been here with the Reds for a good time himself. Yeah. Yeah, absolutely. Kind of, you know, you’re adding to my point there and I appreciate that. Um, but whatever’s happening, there’s going to have to be a lot of things that they look in the mirror and figure out this offseason because how this has gone in between August and now, I mean, this is the home team that the most important home scene of the season. They’ve won one game on it. they’ve had, you know, and Fredel’s catch was cool in the first inning, but they were already down at that point. So, you know, I guess it’s uh one of those things. But, you know, the lack of homers, obviously, the lack of power through the year, um the lack of moves made, you know, like I’ve said, obviously, I like the moves they’ve made, they did make, but it’s just kind of a thing where, you know, you can’t just sit there and hope that God that the same thing happens going to happen over and over again. And I don’t think their manager’s really done them a whole lot of favors either. I talked about that when I was on with Steve the other day. Um, yeah, Josh is right. I mean, Keith Bryan has been a positive. That’s like been the positive uh of August and September is how good he’s been for the Reds. And certainly, I think that’s going to continue. I think uh, you know, had a had a hit in a walk tonight, too. So, yeah, I know a lot of people just kind of the turning forward to, you know, the football season starting on Sunday. I’m sure that this crowd might go down a little bit starting then. I get it. I can’t blame anybody. Um, but yeah, this is this has been frustrating and this has been really hard and uh I’m not having fun watching the Reds anymore. The only time I’m having fun when it comes to Reds is coming here when I’m hanging out with you guys. Um, so yeah, there’s that. You know who else wasn’t fun tonight was Andrew Rabbit. Had a really, really rough game. Let’s talk about that and more right after this. This episode is brought to you by Zipix Toothpick. And if you can’t follow along on YouTube, please be sure to hit that podcast app of choice. We are on all of them. Let’s get to our turning point. Time to reveal where the game was won or lost. It’s the turning point. Mark Vento hit a home run in the top of the third to make it four, four nothing. And it felt like at that point this game was over. Although the Reds did make a nice run at it, it just felt like Andrew Abbott just didn’t have it. And tonight is more the same. August, September, Andrew Rabbit, not when he’s at his best. And this common theme we’re seeing in these couple years now between 23, last year, this year with all these young guys who I’m trying to make the case that there’s not that excuse anymore. Um, is that they kind of just run out of steam at this point. And I get it. Baseball’s really long and people get really tired and it’s really frustrating. Uh, it’s a long year and you got to play your partis 162 times a year. I’m sure that’s exhausting, but at some point that’s the difference between the Reds and the Brewers and the Mets and the Cardinals and the Dodgers and the Diamondbacks and the Padres’s and all these and the Giants right now. That’s the difference between them and all these teams. They know how to manage these teams. They know how to take care of themselves. They know how to be ready when it’s the dog days, when it’s like, “Oh my god, we got to get to the ballpark again.” The Reds don’t have that. And I think really I mean to be honest with you one of my big things I’m looking at next year to add to this team is a veteran leader and like no not Austin Hayes like I’m talking and there’s not another Joey Vado out there. I get it. But they need that veteran leader who’s been around for a long time who has had success and you know they’ve had those guys in the past right? I mean those guys like you those 2010 2011 2012 teams they won because they had like their Scott Rollins. There’s not going to be another Scott Roland out there. I get it. But Scott Roland just being that guy to kind of help them pick themselves up when days were bad. Um, and Andrew Evan needs a guy like that, too. He needs they doesn’t have to be another starter. Obviously, I think they’re pretty set on starters. Um, but they need, you know, they need guys that are going to kind of help them kind of picky back up, start better routines, get better in this situation. Um, Seth, don’t even make that joke. We don’t make don’t Yeah, exactly. Don’t joke about Jr. Candelari being available. Last I heard, he was playing for the Columbus Clippers. So, I don’t know if that’s still true or not. Um, but at some point, you know, maybe I’m just fooling myself thinking that maybe sometime this will click with them. I I I don’t know. But Andrew Abbott obviously tonight didn’t have it. And it’s very irritating because how good he has been all year and his last few starts, he’s been pretty rough. Um, the walks obviously are frustrating. Um so in Arizona obviously only goes four innings because of six runs. Uh last week against the Cardinals had goes five innings has four walks and then today can’t get to the fifth without giving up five runs. So the injury Abs here I don’t know is Nicodola going to be recovered from this virus enough to make his next start hopefully. Um, and then you obviously Hunter being back and Hunter’s looked really, you know, he’s had that rough start with the Dodgers game, but they do that to a lot of people, but I think I’ve been pretty happy with what we’ve gotten from him so far. Um, apparently I have to pick a locked on player of the game. I don’t know, man. Is there one? This is the locked player of the game. I guess in fairness to being his first game back and making the biggest hit of the game for the Reds, I’m going to have to give it to Tyler Stevenson. um QB1 back. That was nice. Um so it was good to see for that. And obviously had a huge hit to bring the within one and they couldn’t do anything with it because that’s what they’ve done all year. They’ll get you believing and then they’ll crush your soul. Maybe it’s on us. Uh maybe it’s our fault, but maybe it’s just because we care too much. Maybe it’s because I care too much. Um Josh, this locked on player of the game is Joy Vado. Joy Vado is always the locked on player of the game. Don’t get it twisted. in my heart at least. Um, but I felt like, you know, having Stevenson back obviously makes it gives him a big gap and his power obviously and what he’s able to do. You know, he can do the things Shrevinho can’t. Travin can do the things he can’t and I think that’s what makes him a really good catcher duo and one of the few benefits of this team right now. So, nice to see him back there as well. But of course, Kebran Hayes, like I said, had a hit in the ninth, had a big walk today as well. Got one of those runs. was the tying run on third base with no else in the ninth inning and they couldn’t bring him in. That’s life as a Reds fan, I guess. But with that being said, I’ll go ahead and wrap this one up because better days maybe are ahead, but probably not in 2025. The Reds are losers tonight to the New York Mets five to four. The Mets have five runs on 10 hits, no errors. The Reds have four runs on nine hits and one error. Your winning pitcher tonight is David Peterson. He is nine and five. And is your loser. He is now eating six. And Alexis Diaz without a cleat picks up his 26th save of the year. And the Reds and Mets are back at it tomorrow as Brady Singer takes the hill for the Reds. He is 12-9 with a 408 RA. He’ll be going against Jonah Tong who’ll be making his second big league start. He is 1 and0 with a 1.8 RA. First pitch is at 640. Obviously, they’re honoring Marty Brenamman tomorrow as well. So, there will be a couple things to get look forward to, I guess, tomorrow if you’re into that kind of thing. But everyone, thank you so much for hanging out with me tonight. I’m Tim Daniel. Have a great evening and we’ll talk about a win again one of these days. I hope
The Cincinnati Reds dropped another frustrating game Friday night, falling 5-4 to the New York Mets at Great American Ball Park. Despite loading the bases multiple times, the Reds failed to deliver the big hit they desperately needed, a recurring theme throughout the 2025 season. The offense managed to keep pressure on New York but couldn’t capitalize when it mattered most. With the loss, Cincinnati’s inability to execute in clutch moments continues to haunt them in a year full of missed opportunities.

Something needs to be done about elly you can't watch three pitches go by you
Q. What do the Reds and lawn furniture have in common?
A. They both fold and wind up in the basement after Labor Day!
Q. What do you call 40 millionaires sitting around watching the World Series on TV?
A. The Cincinnati Reds.
CINCINNATI SUX !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Tim, regardless of the outcome I really enjoy your work. It so obvious that you are very knowledgeable with great insights. Thank you!
I missed the live bud. The wife and I stayed for the fireworks. I really wish Edwin wasn't the guy pitching. I hate losing to or because of a Diaz.
I was at the game. I was sitting on the 3rd base side. 9th inning bases loaded with Elly up. After the 2nd strike I’m sure everyone heard me yell “swing the d#*% bat”. But after a Diaz shoe replacement… he watched a fastball down the middle.
Sorry I'm just gonna say it, Elly looks very overrated and maybe it's time to lower the expectations
The way it's shaping up for Ke'Bryan as a hitter, you really just might rarely see Espinal in the corner, ever again.
Hello Tim. They just aren’t hungry enough… opportunity was ripe. Positive action, none. Elly’s got problems seeing the ball. Too many strike outs!!! Absolutely, Positively Done!!!!
We, as Reds fans, can debate, get upset about manager decisions, management, and owner decisions until the end of time, but the fact is; trying to win with the 22nd ranked payroll out of 30 teams is very difficult. Say Brewers, we'll in 55 years the Brew Crew has never won a World Series.
Look at the recent series of games
LAD: 4 Hall of Famers
Toronto: Bichette, Springer and Vlad Jr.
Mets: Lindor, Soto, Alonso
I mean really, what are the odds the Reds can win those? What is the Reds counter to those type players?
Love the Reds, but this current situation is rather hopeless to really think they can win versus the big boys of the league.
I think De La Cruz should be benched but I know Frank going to want because he's his little pet project.
The BIG AT-BAT WAS MARTE!! JUST MAKE CONTACT, GROUND BALL!! MOST LIKELY WE SCORE THE TYING RUN!! NOBODY IN THE COMMENT SECTION MENTIONS MARTE!! MUST BE THE SAME PEOPLE THAT WANTED TO GET RID OF NATIONAL LEAGUE ROOKIE OF THE YEAR JONATHAN INDIA!!!!
Expected, and was promised, more disciplined play under Francona. This hasn’t materialized. Elly hasn’t gotten better compared to last year. If anything, he’s regressed. The team is a huge disappointment this year.
Elly did not swing, Marte did not make contac, this is bad, strike out is the worse a bat anyone can have, but this is where Elly show that he is not there yet, I really hope that he grow to be the player we all believe he could be, but I hope it happens while he still with the Reds, we are not a good team right now. We
Need to grow, and why Sal Steward is not playing, why bring him up here
And then not play him
Mets fan here … we killed yall 😂
Go mets 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Has a pitcher ever changed their cleats before during game?! 😑 (I only follow football out of desperation when baseball ends…)
It is time for de la Cruz to be traded. We need to try to get a Juan Soto type of package. When you consider how much he’s going to be costing in arbitration, and that he just will not be worth that kind of money, coupled by the fact there’s going to be a lockout in 2027 and also adding in the fact that he has absolutely no desire to sign in Cincinnati long-term. He doesn’t wanna play here. He doesn’t wanna be here. Make the best deal you can right now for someone’s number one number three number nine and number 20 prospect and move on. Put McLain at shortstop, Stewart at second base, go sign, Schwarber or Alonso And get a hitting coach that knows how to hit home runs.
