Not necessarily asking if it will happen or not, since at the end of the day the worst move will be made. Just thinking he knows the team, he’s been good when given little, the players seem to like him, and he has the added benefit of knowing the culture being from Western PA.

As long as they bring in a new GM
The issue is this, Cherington needs to be gone and you’re going to be crippling yourself in the next GM search if you insist on Kelly staying as the new GM.
I’ve been extremely happy with what Kelly has done here, but I hate Cherington as GM more than I like Kelly as manager. If you can find a quality GM that is fine with Kelly staying as manager, I’m all for that but that seems like a “have your cake and eat it too” scenario.
He is gunna command the salary of 22.6 sheetz managers
Everyone commenting that we need a new GM has to come to the realization that it will never matter who the GM is when Nutting is the owner. It will literally never. matter.
Some people want him gone and I don’t get it. Out of like 100+ games you can probably name like a handful of games where his decision making might have cost them a game. Guys like Dave Roberts and Aaron Boone win because they have a $300,000,000 budget of players at their disposal, Don Kelly manages a .500 record in spite of that.
If Cherington has to go, how do you see what DK has done as a new GM and dismiss it just because you don’t know him?
I won’t mind it, but I would like us to actually do a legitimate search for a manager. DK has been good, not great or earth shattering, but better than Shelton which, let’s be honest, isn’t a high bar. He’s earned the right to be considered but I would like us to search for an actual, veteran manager.
Fuck, if the Reds could get Francona, why can’t we do something similar? (I mean, I know why but you understand what I’m saying)
The real question is, how did Jeff Goldblum get in the dugout?
We need a new GM, so I think ownership/team president should encourage the new GM to keep Kelly but I’m open to moving on if the new GM strongly prefers hiring their own manager
I don’t think BC is gonna be canned after the season. They’re gonna let his contract expire so they don’t have to pay two GMs… so my guess is they give Kelly a 1 or 2 year deal
Idk but I’d want to have my name associated with Tommy Lasorda and Dusty Baker when it comes to beating above .500 teams at home.
Yes
Won’t matter. This is a shit run program from the top. Kelly is a middle manager with no real power. The answer is “yes”, but unless other steps are taken, will make zero difference
What an odd, pointless stat for the broadcast to focus on.
I would be extremely happy with Donny as our coach next year
They should do a national search in which Kelly is obviously an automatic finalist. My only concern is the extent to which Kelly was a go-to guy for Shelton and might still be bought in to some of the (in my opinion) stupid approaches/practices. You’ve gotta at least look outside the organization to be sure he’s the man.
All that said, my final two cents is that I do mostly view it as a due diligence move and think that Kelly should probably get the job.
Bring back Don Kelly. He’s at .500 after being thrust into the manager role on a whim with a completely garbage roster. Why let him walk and risk another Derek Shelton scenario?
Man you guys fall for every ploy, you realize teams like dodgers are getting ready for championship. Their not giving 100% against the Pirates, why would they, it’s basically an inter squad game
He at least has a .500 record with this team, more than can be said for any other recent manager. I don’t see any reason not to keep him around for now. Would be nice if jagoff Nutting would actually spend more money and get some better players to see what he can do.
