I heard I don’t know how true it is, but did he want to leave after a couple years? Did he say that? Yeah, he said it to me. I was like I was um the back then, you know, the draft wasn’t a big media event. It was they basically did it in New York and then they called the players and said, “You’ve been drafted by.” So, um you know, Magic found out he’d been drafted by the Lakers. So now they put him on a plane to come to Los Angeles to sign a contract to meet, you know, Dr. Bus. And um so I was at my dad’s house in Bair and the doorbell rang and my dad said, “Genie, that’s um that’s going to be magic.” And Bill Charman, the general manager. Wow. And will you answer the door? I have to go upstairs. And when I opened the door, Magic just had this smile and it was like it was like the stars lit up. It was just there was just something. He has the charisma of, you know, a superstar. And we sit down and Magic was like, you know, I’m really excited that the Lakers drafted me and I’m going to sign a three-year deal and then I want to go home and play for my home team in Detroit. Oh, wow. Yeah. So I went, “Oh, wait a second.” And I ran upstairs and I’m like, “Dad, dad, he just said he’s only going to stay three years.” And you know, and my dad was like combing his hair. My dad had a very slick hairstyle. He’s combing his hair. And he never even looked at me. He was, you know, busy doing his hair. He said, “Jenie, don’t worry. the day he puts on a Laker uniform and he walks out on the floor at the forum, he’s never gonna leave. Yeah. And he’s never left LA. My dad knew. It was just It was amazing.
