NBA 2K26 EARLY ACCESS – MAVS vs 76ERS
Forest Burke and Grant Hill. I’m Brian Anderson. Ally Leforce, our reporter. And now Dallas’s starting group. Thompson and Flag fill out the wings. Daniel Gaffford is out there with Davis. And it’s Irving in at the point guard position. And for the 76ers, Kelly Ubé out there with Joel Embiid. Then there’s Quentyn Grimes. Then there’s Tyrese Maxi. And it’s George in at the three. When it comes to these two teams, Grant, you have to expect they’ll be relying on their front courts to get it done here. Yeah, I think that’s right, BA. It should be an oldfashioned battle amongst the bigs. And whoever gets the edge in that matchup, I think gets the W. But we’ll see. Now, here’s Maxi. It’s Grimes on the wing. Embiid. A screen on Thompson. Grimes. The pass to Embiid. Five to shoot. Fires the three. A nice shot by Grimes. Well, you talk about spacing the floor. This is exactly what you hope for from Quinton Grimes. Outside Davis outside Irving driving in 13 ft out and Grimes pulls it down. UB a screen on Irving. Here’s Grimes. Here’s George. Fires the jumper from the corner and nails it. Grimes rhymes with dimes on time right there. And just about a minute into this first quarter, Irving against Maxi. Irving the pass to Davis. [Applause] Philadelphia grabs the miss. Pass to Maxi. Embiid. A screen on Irving. [Applause] Here’s Maxi. Nice D from Gaffford. And even with the miss, that’s a high percentage shot for him. The three from Thompson. Again, the miss by the Mavericks. The 76ers have gone two of three from the floor. First quarter, just about two minutes in. Pass to Embiid. Four on the clock. George, a deep three. That three off target. Had some space there after the pump fake. Time now to hear from our reporter Ally Leforce. Well, I had a chance to talk with head coach Nick Nurse. We spoke about the challenge of facing Anthony Davis. Coach commented, “There aren’t a lot of guys like AD, bigs who can control both ends of the paint. We have to be aware of him at all times or he’s going to take over the game.” No doubt Davis will be a factor tonight. Back to you. All right, Ally. Hanks once again. Now here’s Maxi. Pass to Embiid. Shot on the wing. Count the basket. Grimes has got five now. Now you want to get him going as soon as possible. Great way for him to start this game. He’s a guy who if he gets hot, he can carry your offense for long stretches. So Jason Kids decided to call timeout here. He’s going to gather the troops and talk it over. And here in the first about 3 minutes in pass to Irving to get back on track and it’s good on the layin. Gets in the paint and drains it. Kyrie Irving show off that touch. Well, we get to see future Hall of Famer in Kyrie Irving tonight, Grant. What’s his best skill? I’ll be honest, BA, I’ve never seen a guard finish like Kyrie around the rim. He makes really difficult buckets look too easy. Back to Ubé. Just three to shoot. Late clock. The Sixers need to put one up here. He was all alone on that one. George has got his second bucket of the night. Boy, nice job by Paul George to make himself available. Gets to his spot and gets it off quickly. Back to Gafford. Some nice ball movement by Dallas. Here’s Irving. [Applause] Davis against Ubé. And it’s going to be a 24se second violation. They turn it over. [Applause] The Sixers lead by eight. [Applause] Maxi passes to Embiid. Back to Maxi. Fires from deep. Yes. And it’s Embiid picking up the assist. What a way to begin this game. Dominating at both ends of the floor. And give them credit for approaching this game with the right energy and intensity. This team has attacked every chance they’ve gotten. Pass to Davis. [Applause] And Davis gets double teamed. Four on the clock. Tries it from the top of the key. And it’s flag missing. Can’t blame him. Just trying to take what the defense allows. Here’s Maxi. Intercepted outside. Irving. Now here’s Davis. He’s covered by Ubé. Davis looking it over and he’s going to the line for two. The officials saw contact while he was going up. Well, when you think of the alltime blockbuster deals, Anthony Davis has already been in a couple. Yes, BA. But it is the most recent trade that is the most notable. When he was traded to Dallas for Luca Donuch. Luca is a generational player. It shocked the NBA world. It will be one of the defining moments of AD’s career. No good on the free throw. And we’re joined now by Shams Chironia. He’s calling in with a story. Good to have you Shams. What’s going on? Well, the Sixers are one of the more high variance teams in the league. With their star veterans in PG and Embiid fully healthy, they have a chance to win the East. Without, they’ll need to lean heavily on their promising young players. They are plenty talented. Thank you, Shams. So, he comes up empty, missing both. Philadelphia leading by 11. George outside. [Applause] Pass to Grimes and he dunks it down. They’re not wasting any time putting their stamp on this game. What a start. And they’ve been doing it largely at the offensive end. If the defense does not adjust, this could be a blowout. Now Gaffford outside. Irving a shot to stop the run. He’s looking good. two buckets in three attempts. Well, we know Kyrie is one of the outstanding shot takers and makers in this league. [Applause] George in the post, pass to Grimes. Now here’s Ubé and it goes out of bounds. Last touch by UB. Yeah, it’s perfect example of why good hands are important in basketball. It just misread that pass completely. Back to Irving. [Applause] Launches a three. Rebound by the 76ers. UB’s got five rebounds in the game. Pass to Embiid. [Applause] Oh, and there’s the whistle on the shot. So, two free throws for him coming up. It’s going to be on Anthony Davis. Yeah, one of the most well-rounded players in the game. Embiid is also a top-notch trash talker, too. I mean, he knows how to get under the skin of his opponents. And that one misses. Well, Grant, if you had to say, is there anything you think is underrated about Embiid? You know, BA, I think it’s his intelligence. Joel’s a heady player. Sometimes big men don’t get enough credit for their smarts on the court. Embiid knows the game. Washington’s checked in for the Mavericks. And the second free throw is good. Here’s Irving. He’s got five. [Applause] Pass to Gaffford. Here’s Flag. George defending and it’s Flag missing. The Sixers lead by 11 inside. Tipped. It’s stolen by Washington. Thompson outside. Back to Irving. [Applause] Shot clock at six. Shoots over Maxi. Oh, he gets it to fall. And that makes it just a singledigit deficit. That is Kyrie Irving in a nutshell. You want to give him the mid-range, he’ll take it. The consumate threelevel score. Now here’s Embiid. And Cafford with the block. Thompson left side and here’s Flag outside. Yes. And a nice assist from Thompson. Yeah, Flag has that three ball. His bag is pretty deep. Maxi against Irving. Maxi passes to Embiid down low. And here’s George. Five points in the game. Screen by Embiid. lets it go from deep. No good. He didn’t make them pay for that weak defense, but they just can’t rely on him to miss those kind of shots. Washington a screen on Maxi. Washington outside pass to Gaffford. Some nice ball movement by Dallas. Here’s Flag from the arc and Dallas hits again from deep. They’ve closed the gap over the last few possessions, but can they push through and grab the lead? Yeah, it feels like they’ve ramped up their intensity. They have forced good things to happen. Now they’re back in it. Now here’s Embiid and he was fouled while in the act of shooting. So he’ll take two free throws. Yeah, I love the use of the shot fake by Embiid. Smart basketball there. Philadelphia shooting their third and fourth free throw attempts of the game. Take a break. Take a break. Two shots. [Applause] And he makes a first. And a new group getting ready for the Sixers. Watford’s checked in for Ubé. Edwards comes in for Paul George. McCain’s checked in for Grimes. And it’s Edgecomb in for Tyrese Maxi. and Embiid drops them both and Dallas with possession. They’re on an 11-3 run. Outside Christie. Here’s Marshall. And they’ll get another chance. And there’s Christie. That one’s good on the assist by Lively. Defensively, you have to stay connected to him on the perimeter. Screen by Embiid. 11 ft out. And another miss by Philadelphia. Dallas has gone four of seven from three-point range here in the first. And he throws it down with two hands. You know, he won’t mess that up. Not this guy. He is a big time finisher. Here’s Edgecom. Pass to Embiid. [Applause] Here’s Edgecom. The three. Washington grabs the miss. Christie against McCain outside. Christie to the inside. Washington outside to the wing on the left down low. Clock is at three and a slam dunk by Lively. Oh my goodness. Not only a vertical threat, but a big time finisher. Derek Lively to the paint. Here’s Embiid. Count the bucket. Coming off a perfectly placed pass. Embiid’s got five now. Well, these are the plays he’s looking to make every single trip up the floor. Very offensiveminded guy. And you look at the shot pattern for D’Angelo Russell Doris. Lots of threes in there. You’re right, BA. There are certain guys who believe in their ability to get hot from distance and it can completely change the tenor of the game. That has been the story of D’Angelo’s career. [Applause] And he drops a first. Bonus checked in for the Sixers. [Applause] And both free throws good for Russell. Well, this is what we’ve come to expect from him, right? Excellence at the foul line. A chance here to catch up with Ally from the sideline. Thank you. This is the fourth and now longest coaching stop for the Mavericks. Jason Kids. Kyrie Irving said he’s learned from the past head coaching jobs that he’s had and being with different players and seeing them improve. Now he’s mastering his coaching philosophy and being an originator. He’s seen it all. Ally, appreciate the report. Here’s Washington following the score by Philadelphia and rejected and that’s out of bounds. Dallas will keep it. Just a superb read on defense to come up with a block. Yeah, just some terrific effort there. And you know, the whole team will get an energy boost off a block like that one. [Applause] 41 seconds left in the first. Marshall can’t hit. Philadelphia has gone three of six shooting from beyond the arc. It’s stolen by Lively. Marshall right side converts on the jumper. An easy two and the Mavericks lead by two. The 76ers have gone eight for 14 from the floor. Outside Edwards outside McCain. He buries it from three. Just 4 seconds left to play in the first. Gets it off. The shot no good. One corner in the books and it’s been a close one. Sixers ahead leading by a point. Don’t go anywhere folks. We’ll be back in a moment. [Applause] And this has been a fairly close game through the first quarter. We’ll see what happens here in the second. And let’s take a moment to get your take, guys, on the scoring so far for Philadelphia. Well, hey guys, I mean, can we talk about how unselfish they’ve been just racking up the assist numbers, moving it around with great precision. The other thing that’s gone exceptionally well for them tonight is the shooting they’ve displayed from beyond the three-point arc. Edgecom out there with Jared McCain. Then there’s George. Then it’s Trendan Watford. And it’s Bonup in at the five. That’s the group on the floor for Philadelphia. George again. The Sixers score. Mavericks trail by three. Thompson outside to the left side wing. Lively finds Russell. fires from 14 and Watford pulls it down. Philadelphia has got four of seven threes to go so far in this game and he’s gone for the lob. Stolen by Davis. Thompson outside over Edgecom again. The miss by Dallas. The Sixers lead by three. Outside McCain to the right side. It’s McCain on the wing. Clock at six to the wing. Right side. Here’s Bona from outside. Off the mark. And this is exactly who you want taking that shot. He just missed it. Pass to Lively outside. Davis. [Applause] Here’s Flag. The three is up. Another miss for him. He’s two for six. Davis against McCain for three. George. Philadelphia with another miss. Mavericks trail by three. Outside. Russell. Pass to flag it up. Outside Davis Davis drawing the double team and a deep three from Russell and they’re unable to get the tying bucket there. I’m still a bit confused as to why he shot it from that distance. I think as a player you have to know your strengths and play to them and that is not within his range. In a lot of ways Paul George has been the prototype of the modern swingman. Gray. Yes. 6’8 and with his versatile skill set, plug and play on any team. But health has been a challenge as of late. Now in his mid30s, can he maintain that elite level? These are his first free throws of the game. Take a break. Take a break. Two shots. [Applause] miss. First free throw is good and players these days with great ball handling, but occasionally getting away with a carry at times. Oh, you know, BA, the old discontinued dribble. I mean, this might be where tracking cameras could start to help because that’s such a tough call for an official to assess in the moment. Daniel Gaffford’s checked in for the Mavericks. Irving comes in for Russell. George hits them both. You cannot give Paul George these extra chances. This guy is deadly from the free throw line throughout his career. Has the flag outside. Davis knocked loose. Oh, George with a steal. It’s a one-on-one situation from downtown. Drills it from deep. George has got 12 points in the game. Just a drop in the bucket for PG-13. He will roast you from the corners if you let him. Pass to Thompson. Back to Gaffford. And here is Irving. Maxi covering. Snap the cold streak. And here’s Flag outside. Hits a three-pointer. Nine points in the game. Yeah, excellent setup for Flag. He’s on his spot, lined up. All he needed was the ball in his hands. Back to Maxi. Here’s Bona. He’s guarded by Gaffford. Here’s Grimes. And Philadelphia hits again from deep. That’s how you up the ante. Come right back at him. And you would expect nothing less from these two. Taking pride and making plays. Now here’s Gaffford. Still no points. Irving no good. Ure against Davis. Pass to Grimes again. Philadelphia. Well, big night for Grimes and this is what he gives you a glimpse of at times, the ability to sustain an offense. The drive by Irving and he makes it. Some defenses are designed to yield the mid-range shot. For him, that’s a good look. Pass to Bona. Philadelphia moving it around. Gafford against Maxi. Six to shoot. Here’s Bonner. George outside over Flag. George no good. Mavericks trail by eight. And here is Thompson over to the left wing. Pass to Davis. [Applause] Davis drawing the double team now. Thompson. Maxi covering. Irving for three. That shot off the mark. Philadelphia leading by eight. Here’s Grimes. The rebound by Klay Thompson. And here’s Thompson. He’ll bring it up for Dallas. Irving finds Gaffford. Now here’s Thompson. He’s covered by UB. High post Davis working on George. Davis down low. Covered by Grimes. Oh, he can’t sink it. He’s 0 for three. [Applause] They set the pick out to Ubé from behind the ark. Sinks it from distance. Grimes has got eight points in the quarter. Well, you see Quinton Grimes n navigate the gate to that coveted corner and he makes it look easy. Back to Irving and he can’t get that one. Some solid defense from Maxi. Now Philadelphia with it. They’re on a 15 to five run. Grimes the pass to Maxi. No good on the triple. Mavericks trail by 11. Pass to Davis on the wing. Irving. Here’s Flag. There’s the three. Gets rebounded by George. Philadelphia has gone seven of 13 from downtown so far in this game. UB can’t hit. Dallas has gone just one of five so far this quarter from three. [Applause] Right side. Davis. Oh, and he got fouled on his way up. He’ll head to the line to shoot two. And the more Davis has added muscle during his career, it really has helped him on the offensive end. It forces defenses to foul him. And this is his second trip to the line tonight. [Applause] First one falls for him. And some changes here for the 76ers. Joel Embiid, he’s checked in for Bona. And it’s Edwards in for Paul George. [Applause] Both free throws good from Davis. The Sixers lead by nine. Maxi surveys. Embiid. A screen on Irving. Maxi passes to Edwards. Now here’s Embiid outside. Maxi. Let’s go with a three. Good. And the assist to Embiid. Embiid’s got three assists tonight. And just so good at playing at high speed. Maxi gets the ball and takes the fast shot. And there’s the lob. Marshall with the bucket. Marshall’s gotten his second bucket. Philadelphia has gone 50% from the perimeter in the second, shooting four of eight. And here’s Maxi outside. No good. That’s his third miss out of five attempts. Marshall on the wing guarded by Edwards. Outside Irving. Back to Marshall. Pass to Irving. Shot clock at five. It’s hauled in by Ubé. UB’s got six rebounds here tonight. Inside, here’s Embiid. So, it’ll be two free throws. He was fouled in the act of shooting. It’s going to be on Anthony Davis. And the moment Embiid gets the ball anywhere near the hoop, it’s over. Too strong to stop without fouling. shooting two. [Applause] The free throw drops for Embiid. And Philadelphia making a change here. McCain’s checked in. And Dallas also making a switch. Derek Lively, he’s checked in for Anthony Davis. [Applause] and Embiid drops them both. So critical that your big men be able to shoot free throws at a high rate. So Jason kids decided to call timeout here. A moment to rest and confer on the game play. Trying anything now to get them out of this slump. Just feels like the basket is looking awfully small to them right now. They’re having a hard time getting anything to fall. Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. [Applause] Heat. Heat. Marshall outside pass to Irving and he got the whistle on the way up so he’ll be headed to the line for Prepare. Doris, we’ve said it before. Kyrie Irving has some of the best handles this game has ever seen. What makes him so good? Ba. To me, you can tell Kyrie has had a basketball in his hands from his earliest years. There is just a comfort whether he’s in traffic or if there’s multiple defenders being sent in his direction under duress of heavy pressure. It’s like Kyrie Irving sees nothing but the rim in front of him. He’s truly incredible. And the first one at the line is good. If you listen to other NBA players, Kyrie Irving is one of their favorites to watch. He has as complete an offensive arsenal and as pretty a game as there is. [Applause] It’s both from the stripe. The Sixers lead by 10 outside Edwards. Embiid finds McCain. Now Edwards out to the right wing. Philadelphia moving it around. Shot clock at six. Here’s Grimes. Gets it to go from the corner. Grimes has got 17. A and just not letting up at all. I mean, you have to love this approach. You want to get the ball to the guys who make plays. One thing we’ve learned in the NBA, the game is never over. So, you’ve got to continue to score, continue to build your lead. Now, here’s Irving. 11 points in the game. High arcing shot. Excellent there from McCain. This has not been his best quarter. And you know what? They keep calling his number and they’re simply trying to get him out of this funk. I just love the strong finish there inside. Man, he’s got that dunker mindset, doesn’t he? Always ready to pounce. Now here’s Marshall to the middle. Here’s Irving. Excellente there from McCain. Philadelphia leading by 14. Right side Edwards. [Music] Pass to McCain. Embiid a screen on Irving. Back to Embiid from deep and the rebound goes to the Mavericks. A minute six left in the first half of basketball. Let’s go now to the sideline and catch up with Alli Leforce. Hey guys, Kyrie Irving so admired by his head coach and Jason Kidd said Kai is a special dude. He wants to be coached to understand the game at the highest level and to be pushed to the highest level. What’s more, I don’t think he’s afraid of failing. Back to you. Great mentality, Ally Leforce with the report. Thanks, Ally. So, it’s Philadelphia now after the basket by Dallas. McCain shot is off. Marshall on the wing guarded by Edwards. Outside Christie. There’s 25 seconds left to play in the first half. It’s over left side. Irving. Philadelphia grabs the miss. Ubé’s got rebound number seven tonight. Yo yo right here. Right here. Everyone in the building saw the obvious contact. [Applause] Shooting two. Re throw good. Edwards [Applause] and both free throws good for Edwards. 7 seconds left to play in the half. Russell from deep three-point land. No good. Misses at the buzzer. And so it’s Philadelphia up 14 as we wrap up the quarter. They hold a real solid lead right now. Love their approach tonight. Well, now a minute to check in with Ally Leforce. She’s courtside. Hey Ally. Joelle. Some fireworks early. What’s going to be critical to keeping it rolling? Uh just keep moving the ball. Uh you know, get stops and uh I think the kids just moving the ball, playing together. We’ve been doing that and uh we got some hot guys and we got to keep feeding them. Ball movement is key, guys. Thank you, Ally. Good stuff. We will be right back after this break for the beginning of the third quarter. [Applause] Heat. [Applause] Heat. [Applause] And there wasn’t too much drama in the first half, but maybe things will tighten up here in the second. You got to like what we’re seeing from Quinton Grimes. You just love his patience offensively in the first half. waited until he got the looks he wanted. You know, as a coach, you can preach good shot selection, but it’s up to the players to execute, and this guy has done just that. Mavericks trail by 14. And on the floor for Jason Kit as we get into the second half, a pair of first overall picks of the front court. Flag and Davis, Kyrie, and Clay pair up to make the back court. And it’s Gafford in at the center, locking down the middle. Now here’s George. 14 points, their largest margin of the game. Screen by Embiid. George against Gafford. Just five on the clock. And there’s a whistle. He’ll head to the line to shoot two. Daniel Gaffford picks one up. Well, Paul George is a difficult defensive assignment precisely for this reason. He’s going to force you into contact. And this will be his third and fourth free throws of the game here. [Applause] That’s good from George. And good on the second. So he makes them both. Mavericks trail by 16. has a flag outside. Irving lets the three fly, sends it home from three-point land. Irving’s got 14 points. That is pure from Kyrie. Fantastic working off the catch. And here is Maxi. Cans it with nobody near him. And it’s eight points for Tyrese Maxi. Defensively, you can’t afford to get stuck on the pick. You know exactly what that takes. It takes energy. It takes activity. It takes intensity. Some nice ball movement by Dallas. Gaffford with a screen on Maxi. Irving. The pass to Gaffford. And the dunk by Gaffford. When Kyrie Irving comes off that pick and roll, he has so much attention on him due to his speed that it results in a lot of easy shots for the guys around him. Now here’s Maxi. Give him eight points now. Embiid inside. Working on Gaffford and Gaffford with the block. Boy, you see the great timing of Daniel Gaffford on the defensive end. Davis. The pass to Gafford. That’s in there. Davis with the assist. Such confidence as a passer. He hits guys in stride. It makes it look easy. Embiid a screen on Thompson. Maxi against Thompson. Here’s Grimes. Burries it from three. Grimes has got 20. Now he’s in his bag from beyond the arc right now. You see his confidence and I think the defender knows once he gets cooking, look out. The bucket looks awfully big to him right now. The Sixers lead by 14. To the inside. Here’s Embiid. And Embiid throws it down. At 7T tall, Embiid looks to dunk often, especially when he’s got good positioning. Davis with a screen on back seat. UB against Irving. Has the flag. Fires the three. Rebound by Philadelphia. Here’s Maxi and there’s the drive and it goes as the official calls the foul. Count it and he’ll shoot one more at the line and he’s got his first opportunity at the line here tonight. Bonus checked in for Embiid. [Applause] [Applause] You really can’t understate the energy Max he brings to his game. Not just effort level, but his attitude and how that spreads to his guys out there. Now here’s Gaffford. Pass to Irving. to stop the run and it’s Bona with a rebound. The Sixers lead by 19. George with the bucket. George has got four points in the quarter and they’re really rolling right now. That lead keeps getting bigger and bigger. And one of the things that’s helped that is they’re getting it done on both ends. Terrific focus on offense and they’re locked in defensively. So Jason kids decided to call timeout here and we might see some changes. Coach potentially looking to adjust. Mavericks trail by 21. Thompson outside. Irving looking around. Oh, it’s stolen away. Outside. Grimes. George outside. Pass to Maxi. Here’s Boner. Just five to shoot. And out of bounds. Dallas will have it. [Applause] Dallas is gone. Only one of three from deep here in the third. Outside Irving shoots over Maxi. takes a big high bounce and goes in. Irvings got five points in the quarter. Oh, guys, there are not many strokes more pure than that of Kyrie Irvings. Here’s George and the jam by George. A brilliant dunk. And he hangs up there for a while, too. Like he’s posing for the camera. He’s just hanging out, posing for pictures, just making himself at home. Now, here’s Davis. Six on the shot clock outside for Irving. Three-pointer. That one falls coming off Davis feed. Davis has got three assists now in this one. Hey, Kyrie is a threat from anywhere beyond the arc, including those corners. Here’s George. 18 points for him over Gaffford again. Philadelphia. Everything is dropping for them. Just a terrific third period run. And I think it’s been all about their offensive efficiency, shooting the lights out in this quarter. And there’s the call. It’s going to be an illegal screen. One of the trickier plays to judge, but it would be hard to argue against the call. It is really difficult to get your feet completely set, to stay completely still. It’s almost surprising to me that it isn’t called more often. And Philadelphia making a change here. Watford’s checked in. Washington’s checked in for Dallas. Now here’s Maxi. He’s got 11. George left side. And the rebound goes to the Mavericks. And that close out certainly made a difference. Well, no question. He altered that shot. And most of the time that’s just as good as blocking it. Now here’s Gaffford. Pass to Washington. Some nice ball movement by Dallas. Here’s Flag. Watford covering. And that one’s good. Flag. And Flag can expect plenty of contact this season. Defenders are going to give him some hard treatment. George with it. Gafford picks him up. George against Gafford. Philadelphia with another miss. And so it’s Irving who brings up the ball for the Dallas Mavericks. They trail by 18. Gafford passes to Thompson on the wing. Irving lets a floater go. Washington finds Gaffford. Here’s Flag. Launches it from deep and Watford pulls it down. I know that he has the ability and confidence to sink that shot, but better leg next time maybe. And for most guys, I think you only want to take that shot if you’ve hit a few in a row. That is absolutely a heat check. Now here’s George. Give him 20. George with another miss. [Applause] Here’s Flag. Irving for three. It’s rebounded by George. And he probably thought he was going to bury that one. Pass to Ubé. [Applause] Watford outside. George outside. And here’s Grimes. Three-pointer off the mark. Irving with it. 19 points in the game. Inside. Here’s Flag. Washington. A good look. Gets rebounded by George. George has got his fourth rebound in this one. Gray passes to Watford. It’s stolen by Washington. Thompson outside. Here’s Irving. Knocks down the step back. Jay. Irving’s got 10 points in just the second half. Yeah, the way Kyrie varies his pace, hard for any defender to guess right. So Nick Nurse has decided to call timeout here. He’ll take the opportunity to regroup. Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. And some changes here for the 76ers. Edwards, he’s checked in for Ubé. McCain comes in for Grimes. And it’s Edgecomb in for Tyrese Maxi. [Applause] Christie against McCain. To the paint. Christy with a steal. Marshall outside. Pass to Russell. Screen by Lively. And Russell with the three. Russell’s got five points. A volume three-point shooter. The coaching staff encourages Russell to fire away outside Edwards. Pass to Edgecom. Watford outside. Five on the clock. Philadelphia moving it around. They still need this. It’s rebounded by Dallas. [Applause] Now Marshall. Washington right side. Back to Marshall. Now here’s Christie and here’s Lively. George defending outside. Russell fires for three. Edwards pulls it in. Philadelphia leading by 13. Marshall with it. Guarded now by George on the wing. Christie. Pass to Russell down low. and he was fouled in the act of shooting. Opportunity for a three-point play here. You can see the assertiveness right now of D’Angelo Russell. He welcomes the contact and powers and plays right through it. And a closer look here at the scoring breakdown for the 76ers. What a performance for beyond the arc in this game. They stuck to their guns and it’s paid off all game. I think it’s also important we mention the number of assists this group has tallied. Their offense continues to just hum along right now. The 76ers have gone seven of 13 in the second half. Pass to Embiid. Rebounded by Marshall. Mavericks trail by 10. Here’s Lively. Embiid covers. [Applause] Lively finds Russell. Washington outside. Just four to shoot from 18 ft away. Christie shot is off. Oh, the defense very willing to live with that mid-range jumper to end the drought. McCain shot is off. Nothing more important than protecting the rim, folks. And that’s exactly what they get. Jacks up a three and it’s Christy with a three. Christristie’s got 10. Terrific energy at both ends to sustain this run. They found their composure on both ends of the floor and that is what triggered this run. Now here’s Embiid. He’s got nine shot and game caught. Separated by five [Applause] and a foul called on the way up. So he’ll take two from the free throw line. That’s on Derek Lively. He can be such a physical force. It’s so hard to keep Embiid from getting to the free throw line. It’ll be his fourth time going to the line in this game. The first one falls and the 76ers making a change here. [Applause] and Embiid drops them both. [Applause] Pass to Marshall. Launches it. He can’t get it to go. And so it’s the Philadelphia 76ers with a nine-point cushion at the end of the quarter and their defense has stood out wreaking havoc for the opposition. We’ll be back in a moment. [Applause] And this is it. Glad to have you along for this fourth quarter. The Sixers lead by nine. They’ve got Quinton Grimes. Edgecom out there with Jared McCain. Then it’s Joel Embiid. And it’s Watford and at the power forward position. That’s the group on the floor for Philadelphia. Pass to Edgecom. The three. Lively grabs the miss. And for the Mavericks, they’re shooting just under 40% from the field. And here’s Flag outside. That’s in there. Davis with the assist. Yeah, the complete package is AD. Had the defense’s attention and found the open man. To the middle. Here’s Embiid. The Mavericks pull it in. Davis has got seven rebounds in the game. Outside Russell. [Applause] Back to Thompson for three and Dallas hits again from deep. This is what you call a dead eyee three-point perimeter shooter. Clay Thompson doing work. [Applause] Pass to Watford. Here’s Edgeco. [Applause] Down to five on the shot clock. Here’s Grimes. And they come right back with their own three-pointer. Grimes has got 23 points. Oh, I love that answer from three from Quinton Grimes. Big time response. Thompson fires from way outside and he can’t answer back. The three-pointer offline. It’s McCain on the wing, defended by Thompson, and Edgecomb gets it to go. Oh, you know, everyone comes into the league with a three shot now. And Edgecomb is of course no exception. Russell deciding where to go with it. On the Wayne Thompson. Oh, Thompson buries the tray. Both teams are starting to find a rhythm here. And this is partly what the game has become, right? A matter of dueling three-point opportunities. Here’s Edgecom defended by Thompson. Outside Grimes, a three from Edgecomb. Another three for Philadelphia. And he was dialing that one up. Edgecomb saw his opportunity and seized it. Some nice ball movement by Dallas. Thompson. Passes to Russell. Back to Thompson. Pass to Flag. This one for three. Rebound by Philadelphia. Their biggest lead of the game was 21. McCain shot is off. Given his range, you’d expect him to capitalize on that opening. Davis, the pass to Thompson. And here’s Lively. And here’s Flag outside. Joel Embiid with the board. Embiid’s got his eighth rebound here tonight. Grimes. The pass to Watford. Here’s McCain. Drains the triple and the 76ers lead by 12. That man is laser focused. Now that’s bad defense for a team that has a long way to go to catch up. Well, credit the offense though. If you’re going to come with casual defensive effort, this team’s responsibility is to take advantage and they do. And so Jason Kidd calls for the timeout. He wants to make sure they’re purposeful with the game plan. Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. a different look for Dallas. Daniel Gaffford comes in for Lively and Irving is subbed in for Russell. All right, let’s check in with Alli Leforce. Thanks, guys. Jason Kidd had some words for his team over the break. He told them, quote, “If we’d worked harder on the glass, we’d probably be up right now. Show some heart. Show some pride.” It was a very direct message. Back to you guys and Ally. Thanks. Over three and a half minutes through the final quarter now. Pass to Gaffford. Now here’s Thompson. Here’s Flag. Six to shoot. Davis with a screen on George. Here’s Flag. It’s good. Flag’s got five points in the quarter. Yeah, most young players want to take threes. Flag is the rare wing who almost prefers to bang down low. George outside puts up a three. Yes. And it’s Embiid picking up the assist. Embiid’s got four assists in the game. How about the assist coming off the deck. What a pretty bounce pass. Now here’s Irving [Applause] into the lane pass to Gaffford. played it in with a nice touch off the window. Six points here for Daniel Gaffford. I’d like to see them run more plays for him. Maybe something in motion to make it harder for the defense to deny the ball. George finds Maxi 43 and it’s Flag with a rebound. Flag’s got four rebounds now. Now Gaffford outside Davis on the wing. Irving on the take and oh that was close. He draws the foul. That’ll shoot two. It’s going to go on Tyrese Maxi. Boy Irving decisive on that drive. Gets the foul because of the intensity. Taking it to the rack. Take a break. Take a break. Two shots. [Applause] And he knocks down the first one. [Applause] [Applause] Both free throws good from Irving. And so it’s Maxi with it. He brings it up for the 76ers. Their biggest lead of the game was 21. Outside UB outside McCain. Clock at six. Screen by Embiid. And McCain with the three. And the 76ers lead by 12. Coming down the stretch, they’ve leaned on the perimeter game. Boy, the three-point arc has been a major factor in what they’ve done here tonight. You love the aggressiveness, adding insult to injury with the dunk off the steel. Nice to see a good play on D. That led to some fireworks. Let’s see if that serves as a momentum builder. What a great sequence for this group. Davis. Look at Davis go to work on the interior. Yeah, when Davis gets that kind of positioning inside, he is pretty much automatic. George outside. Plenty of contact on that shot. Officials call the foul and he’ll take two free throws now. [Applause] [Applause] on the miss. That free throw no good. [Applause] He’s off on the second. Uncharacteristic trip to the line for him. Just lost his feel on those shots. Inside. It’s stolen by Ubé. Pass to Maxi. with the teardrop now. McCain. Screen by Embiid. The three ball. Oh, book it. Embiid a triple. Yeah, we know Embiid can do it oneon-one, but the catch and shoot jumper showing his versatility. Now, here’s Irving. tried to bank it in, but it misses. The Sixers lead by 15. Here’s Ubé. The Mavericks pull it in. Davis has got rebound number eight now. Thompson goes up. Pass to Davis. Now Gafford. Here’s Flag and Gaffford gets it to go on the assist by Flag. Gafford’s got four points now in the quarter. [Applause] Maxi against Irving. Maxi passes to Embiid. Outside Maxi. Pass to McCain and it’s out of bounds. Last touch by Maxi. Unforced turnovers. They’ll drive your coach insane. Grimes, he’s checked in for the Sixers. Mavericks trail by 13. Outside for Davis. Back to Irving. It’s tipped. It’s stolen by Maxi. Great D that time from Irving. Boy, I’d like to see him finish that play with more authority. Oh, the lead pass was in the perfect spot to set up the layup. Irving’s got 25 points in the game. Here’s Maxi. [Applause] Embiid. A screen on Thompson. Count it. And the 76ers lead by 13. Got to fight harder to get over those screens. You know, we see this all the time. You’re basically as a defender hoping the man misses rather than putting in the work to get over screens. Now here’s Davis. Back to Irving. Shot clock at five. That’s in there. Davis with the assist. Davis has got six assists here tonight. Philadelphia leading by 10. Outside Maxi outside Embiid. [Applause] MBI drawing the double team. Fires the three. Ooh, the shot misses. Mavericks trail by 10. And here is Irving. Oh, touches it off the glass. Well, this is one of the best in the league at converting off contact. What body control by Kyrie Irving. Irving against Maxi. Now Embiid and out of bounds. Dallas will have it. And so it’s Irving who brings up the ball for the Dallas Mavericks. Eight-point game. and he drives in. Udre with a rebound. And for Philadelphia, they’re shooting a terrific 56% so far in the fourth quarter. Embiid inside. Check by Davis. Cleared away by Davis. Mavericks trail by eight. Irving with it. Oh, he misses the layup. 125 left in the fourth quarter here. Outside George. Here’s Embiid. Outside George. Shot clock at six. Now it’s Maxi from deep three-point land. Not that time. Now Irving Davis down low. He’s against UB Irving. It’s money from deep. Man, that is a good one. Kyrie really just comes alive when the game gets tight. And an intentional foul right there. They double team George. UB fires and yes sir, matching three-pointers. Wow. Looking to close things out. That might have been the nail in the coffin. Well, at this point they’re so far up. It would take a real collapse to give this game away at this point. Now a timeout called by Dallas. There’s 37 seconds left in the fourth quarter of this one. From a coaching perspective, what are the keys to focus on here? They’re going to have to get up a quick shot and then foul immediately. Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. outside. Irving from deep and he nails it. Huge bucket from Kyrie. Knows how to deliver. And now they decide to foul intentionally. Good on the first and that increases the lead to six. So he gets them both and it’s a seven-point game. These trips to the foul line are how you protect a lead and grow it. Got to knock these in. Here’s Flag. Puts up the tray. It’s on. He’s been tremendous at corraling misses all night long. A lot of it comes down to great fundamentals, establishing position early, controlling the backboards. And so it’s Philadelphia with the W. Boy, a hardfought game. They did a great job of holding on to the lead at the end. Yeah, get the coffee cuz that’s the way to close. You’re going to face some obstacles in the game, but they overcame everyone. And that’ll wrap it up, folks.
