Padres vs Rockies Postgame Wrap Up Show: Rockies 3 Padres 0

Heat. Heat. [Music] [Music] All right. So, Kyle Freeland, who had a 6.71 home RA, was ejected in the first inning two days ago, just went eight innings on 88 pitches, completely shoved, retired the first 13 Padres’s he faced. And the Rockies take game one in Denver. The Padres swoon continues. They have lost five straight. They have um all of a sudden completely dropped in the wild card race. I mean, they’re now tied for that six spot. They’re only four games ahead of the Giants, holding on to a playoff spot. So, we’re going to react to it all. I’m somewhere. I don’t even know where I am. I’m in Idaho. Jim’s in San Diego, even though the Aztecs are playing in Washington. Um, all right. So, let’s react to it to it all. We have a hour of content for you here tonight. Paveta was fine. I mean, it wasn’t Paveta’s fault. His numbers of course had been absolutely horrific. But offensively, just complete, you know, anemia, if that’s even a word. And the Padres’s fault in game one, Jim. They’ve lost five consecutive games. Um, they’re in a complete tail spin and they’re trying to hold on for dear life. And thank the Lord that, you know, you have a team like LA that is doing the same thing. But, I mean, I I don’t think you can play like this over the final 21 and just hold on to this playoff spot. They got to play better than this. They have to win is the point. Yeah. I mean, you’re kind of at a loss for words tonight. Like, I spent all day talking about like, you can’t lose this game. It’s win day. You know, even I don’t care what any excuse is tonight. Like there there is there’s none. You have to win. Have to win. It’s not a must-win game because there’s only must-win games until it becomes a actual must-win game. But like come on, man. Tonight felt like one of those games that you got to win. You’re going to Colorado. You’re facing the worst team in baseball and a guy with a six something RA at home. And he not only shoves, he looks like the reincarnation of Sandy Kofax. H I know. Sandy co is Sandy Kofax still alive? I don’t know. Anyway, that’s a really good question. You get my point. This was embarrassing. I mean, flat out. Of all the embarrassing losses they’ve had over the last 10 plus games, he’s alive. Okay, he’s 90. Wow. Good for him. Um, of all the losses they’ve had over the last two weeks here, this one’s the worst. I I have like th this one was so awful. No fight, no heart. I like you know, even Mike Schultame had to say like, “Yeah, we didn’t make any adjustments.” That’s his way of saying they didn’t fight and they just rolled over and they just gave up. I mean, three nothing at Coors Field is nothing. Three a three-run deficit at Kors is nothing. And they got the tying run at the plate in the ninth inning. And who was at who was at the plate? Oh, Manny Machado. What did he do again? Disappear. Like, holy [ __ ] dude. I’m sorry. First it was first it was O’Harn who had a 3-1 pitch. Yep. Represented tying run. He flies out. But who you looking at first, Manny or O’Brien? Of course. Of course, Manny. I will say I I’ll I’ll spend an hour on Manny and I haven’t even done the deep dive, but yeah, I mean we could spend an hour on Manny. I’m with you. I mean, look at his numbers. I mean, it’s complete. It’s been a disaster of a month. You know, we thought, oh, the Calvary is going to flip to September. He’s going to look like a different player that’s obviously not taking place, but you’re 100% right. I mean, representing the tying run, looking to do damage. He grinds into a double play to end the game. I mean, this has happened routinely over the last month of the year. Um, but you’re 100% right. Whether it’s Machado, I mean, Tatis had a single in the ninth inning. Okay, better than Machado. U, but Tatis hasn’t done anything. I mean, this team’s so lost. Jackson Merrill, I mean, he has done literally nothing. Um, they’re so lost. It’s It’s really shocking to see it play out like this. I mean, they even switch their lineup. Luis Arise doesn’t play, right? Doesn’t start in this game. He later walks when he pitch hit in this game. But like they even they even put a rise on the bench against a left-handed starter and nothing works, Jim. They they can’t get anything right right now. No. No. They’re they’re they’re an embarrassment. And the only thing the only thing that is stopping me from just I I mean like aviscerating this team to the point where I’m like they have no shot. They’re DOA like just forking them is the Dodgers. Dodgers. That’s it. That’s it. Cuz the way the Dodgers are playing is exactly like how the Padres’s are playing. And for for some reason it’s like I don’t know how but there’s still two back. Like what the [ __ ] Like it makes no sense. I know it’s three. It makes no sense. It doesn’t make any sense. And it’s like I said today on John and Jim, the first team that starts playing well is going to win the division. Well, of this point. And you know what the crazy You know what the crazy thing is? The crazy thing is here come the San Francisco Giants. You know they play the Dodgers seven times in September. I do. Seven. And they are only six back of the Dodgers. Who the hell are you rooting for there? Cuz they’re on your ass now. They’re fourback. I get it. Four back with 21 to play. But they’ve won 10 of 11 or 11 of 12, something crazy like that. And they’re just they made up seven. They made up seven games in the last 10. They’re just scoring like a million runs. They were 11 back at the Padres’s 11 days ago. And now they’re fourback and the Padres’s sit in the six spot in the wild card. I I can’t explain any of this. Nothing makes sense. Baseball is a beautiful stupid game that you just I don’t know why this happened. And if the Padres’s, you know, just continue to play like this, the fact that we have to sit here and just keep relying on the Dodgers to play like [ __ ] that’s not a good strategy. You know, you’ve had opportunities all week long and you squandered every single one of them. Um, and like I said, the only thing right now stopping me from saying that this team is just completely dead is the fact that Dodgers right now, too. That’s it. I know. I mean, what what’s interesting is to your point, I don’t even know when the Dodgers and the Giants play among these final 20 games, but I assume it’s coming up since there’s only 20 games left. I mean, who are you rooting for? I know. Do you root for the Dodgers to secure yourself a playoff spot? Because again, the only way you’re out is if you’re caught from behind. Mhm. So, do you root for the Dodgers to take, I’m making it up, four out of seven, therefore handing the Giants four losses and making it very unlikely that they pass you, or do you root for the Giants to, let’s say, win five of seven or more, but then there’s a scenario where the Giants overtake you and you’re on the outside looking in because you’re two games behind the Dodgers. You don’t have a tiebreaker. I mean, the crazy way to look at it, this is this is such a sad way to look at it and such a scared way to look at it. The scared way to look at it, which is based on their way of playing right now, is to root for the Dodgers against the Giants, as dumb as that sounds. But if you’re not gonna win, I mean, what’s what do you prefer? What do you prefer being in or being caught from behind and being out? Like, would you rather be in as a six or out as a seven? So, you’d rather be in as a six as opposed to not win the division as opposed to the chance of potentially being a seven on the outside looking in. Now, both both remain unlikely, but they’re becoming more likely by the day. It’s unlikely the Giants pass the Padres’s, but how can we say that it’s not going to happen? They’ve made up seven games in the last 11 days, right? So, it could absolutely happen. It’s still unlikely. I’d rather be four games up than four games back. And then it’s also unlikely the Padres’s pass the Dodgers. Why? Because I’d prefer to have a three-game lead than have a three-game deficit. So, as it sits here right now, I kind of hope they beat each other up and the Padres’s look like some semblance of themselves and win 10 or 11 times in the last 20 or 21 games. But if one team goes six and one, you could be looking at a pretty bad situation, especially if it’s San Francisco. If San Francisco goes six and one against LA, you in a spot where you’re going to have to win at a decent clip um over the final 20 games. Yeah, because right now, two seed, that’s done. Four seed, that’s done. That’s done. You’re playing for just to make it the five or the three. Like that’s what you’re playing for right now. Yeah. Right. Three, five, six are the possibilities. Yep. Yeah. So, look, you you if you get in as the six, you’re you’re going to LA to face the Dodgers. If you get in as a five, you’re going to Chicago to face the Cubs. And if you get as a three, well, guess what? You’re playing the Dodgers here at Petco Park, most likely. Yep. Those are the options that like pro like and you have been dog [ __ ] against the Dodgers all year. So like it is so frustrating. It’s a weird time, man. It’s a weird time. And I just go back to like Mike Shield, the ultimate optimist, saying postgame that his team made no adjustments. That’s translation for they didn’t fight. And I’ve heard Mike Schult plenty of times say after losses that he wasn’t concerned about the the fight of the team, but when he is and when there is a time that they give up or their bats don’t look good or whatnot, then that’s that’s a time to to to worry. We’re at that point I feel like because they just gave up tonight other than the ninth inning when you got a walk and a single there from Tatis and Arise. They were as lifeless as they it could be the entire game. Led the way. Leading the way was Manny Machado. Just completely as lifeless as you could look. And for a Mike Schult team who preaches all this [ __ ] about uh you know never giving up in a bat and always fighting and and going down the last out, they gave up tonight. That’s And how about just two days ago he said this style of play falling behind and what did we say? It’s over. He said it I’m telling you it’s over. And here are here are the things you have to know about any any sport. You never know if you’ve reached the bottom, especially in baseball. There’s 162 games. I mean, ask the Rockies if they’ve reached the bottom. They’re 40 and 101. Like, there’s been a lot of bottoms for the Rockies this year. And the thing with a sport like baseball is, yeah, there might not be a bottom. And sometimes there’s not a ceiling when you got a team that could win 105 or 106 games. Like, you can really go, but with a team like the Padres’s right now, we don’t know where the floor is, unfortunately. Maybe you could say the same thing with the Dodgers. The way here’s the issue. You can only go so hard at the team when they have a 95% chance of still making the postseason fan graphs. I mean, now that can change. That absolutely can change based on I mean, if the Giants literally are going to close the season 17 and three from here on out, then somebody’s going to be screwed and it could very well beat the San Diego Padres’s. But it’s hard to do what the Giants have been doing over an extended period of time, let’s say the next 20 plus games. But the indicators are a disaster. I mean, even if they’re in, that’s the issue. It It’s to me, it’s about so much more than are they going to be in, there’s still a very good chance they’re going to be in. But nobody’s hopes for the year, even at the start of the year, was just to be in. And then you add like you add at the deadline. And you just want to be in to play like this. You’re in as a six and then you lose two games to none or you’re in as a five and you lose some series at Wrigley Field or wherever they’re going to be. So, listen, things can change. There’s still enough time. I would say they have 1/8 of their season remaining. I mean, they still have 1/8. That’s a good amount of games. I mean, 21 games is a good amount of games, but there’s no guarantee it changes. I mean, for every chance they have of going 14 and seven down the stretch, I think they could maybe go seven and 14, as crazy as that is, with the schedule that they still have, which some would tell you is advantageous, but screw the schedule because they haven’t taken advantage of the schedule. So, it’s a very tricky time for them. And right now, they’re staring at a serious loss in Colorado. I mean, unless they win the next two days and completely pick themselves up, they’re looking at a series loss in Colorado, depending on what happens here. Another thing that Mike Schultz said postgame that I think was also pretty telling, I don’t know if you watched this postgame or caught this. I watched this post game. He said, “At some point, actions have to start speaking louder than words.” Right. He said like, “Right, we can talk it, but that doesn’t mean like we actually have to do it.” Yeah. Yep. That’s also concerning too because now you start to wonder is what Mike Shield is saying in the clubhouse just not being received by the team are are cuz you know that he’s talked to the guys. You know it you know they you know they’ve talked in this last however many days that they have played like dog [ __ ] So, there has been things said in that clubhouse that obviously have not been relayed to the media or the fans by players or Schult. So, now when I hear that, I’m wondering to myself, okay, is the message that’s being sent to this team, is it being received or is it going in in one ear, not the other? because the way that they’re playing it’s go it feels like it’s going in one ear out the other and so I don’t know man that that’s a little concerning to me. We’ll see how the rest of the thing plays out but it it’s when he said that I was like okay interesting. But the and I agree with you and and I’ll be the first to criticize Shield. I’m happy to do it but like it’s hard for me to put their play on Shield right now. I do think some of the the strings he’s pulled haven’t worked. But like today, I can put none of this. Like when he took the blame the other day, it made no sense because like none of it was on Mike Shield. And then today, literally none of it for me is on Mike Shield. I mean, he’s the same. If they’re not receiving the message they were 21 days ago, 21 days ago, they finished a 14 and three stretch. So, how could the message that he’s been delivering have changed that drastically over the course of 21 or 22 days? Like to me it’s more just failure in terms of is it a level of tightness? Is it they just were cruising to the finish line? They thought they were in the postseason. But I mean the Dodgers are going through a very similar thing. The one advantage they have is they have a season series from the Padres’s. They’re two games better than the Padres. So I’d rather be in their feet in their shoes than the Padres’s. But it’s hard for me to listen. I’ll I’ll criticize what Mike Shield says, but it’s very hard for me to criticize the way Mike Shield is quote unquote managing or dealing with the team because unless something happened, like there was some moment that sent the team arrive based on some action he had that we would never know about, then I it’s very hard for me to put put this losing skin on Mike Shield other than his annoying sound bites postgame. Well, I I think everyone’s to blame, but you’re right. If I’m start where where I’m starting is with Manny Machado, like that’s and the pitching staff. Yeah, Nick Vetta did did well tonight. Six innings, two runs. Couldn’t ask for anything more in Colorado from him. A guy that has a six plus, you know, career RA there. So, he did his part tonight, but 11 plus. 11 plus ERA coming into today. 11 plus. I thought it was like a six something. No, 11. Maybe look maybe a different stat. Anyway, um yeah, it starts with Manny Machado. Plain and simple. I mean, the guy flat out sucks right now. And it’s not just a short sample size. We are like uh his his OPS is about to dip below 800. Yeah, it’s 803, right? It’s 803 right now. If he has another 0 for four, you’re probably looking at a 799 OPS. Yeah, you’re right. He is just he’s awful. You’re the leader of this team. You need to step up. And you don’t get any benefit of the doubt because you haven’t won anything in your career. So, you don’t have this, well, he’s a World Series champion. He’s a World Series MVP. He’s a, you know, two-time NLC. No, you have none of that. If anything, the questions that are in the postseason for you make this and put even more pressure on you to perform because you have none of that to to to fall back on as far as I’ve been there. I’ve done that, so I’m struggling right now, but I know I can get out of it because I’ve done it before. You haven’t done it before. You’ve you’ve never done it before. And if you don’t pick up your game right now and this team keeps on sliding and if the worst possible scenario happens or if you get in as a six and you lose the first round, you get swept 2, guess who’s the first person that is going to be blamed for this and and for for us, I know you’re shaking your head. It will be Manny Machado. Yeah, 100%. Yep. By the way, I looked it up. So pave a lifetime against the Rockies regardless of location has an 1114 home or road coming into today. And then in four career starts at Kors Field coming into today. Listen to this. I thought they said on the broadcast they did. Um in four career starts at Korsfield. Where the hell is it? He had an 11. No, no, no, no, no. Hold on. I have to find it because this is ridiculous. In 14 innings, he had a 17.36 at Coursefield. In 14 innings, he had allowed 28 runs, 27 earned coming in. Good. 14 career innings. So, I mean, honestly, considering that, the fact that Nick Paveta gave you the length, nobody’s gone six innings for this team in two weeks. And he pitched well. Obviously, of course, Field Alliance couple of runs is pitching very well. And for the offense to just be that listless. I mean, truly listless. Like, there was a moment in this game you’re like, are they get the way they’re playing, they get no hit at Course Field tonight? And they they tested that theory. They had just three hits here today. All right, let’s get to some of these super chats. We do need to thank our title sponsor Mark Nimtts at Farmers Insurance in a moment as well. Appreciate you guys again hanging out with us on this Friday night. Podgers have lost five straight. It’s actually not their longest losing streak of the year. They lost six straight in May. It’s just the worst time to be dealing with this because it’s September. LLM213, thank you for the super chat. He says, “Has Mike Schil lost the locker room?” I mean, Jim was touching on this. Uh, and I think you basically agree with what I I don’t believe so. I don’t I can’t say it for certain, but it would surprise me to lose a a clubhouse or a locker room this late in the year. Still 13 or 14 games over 500, but it’s hard to know until the the final chapter’s been written on the season, but I I’d be surprised if he had, truthfully. Yeah, I don’t think he’s lost the clubhouse. I would be surprised if he has, like you said. But the one thing that I keep going back to is just him saying, you know, like basically enough talk, actions got to meet our, you know, what we’re preaching type of thing. Um, you know, Mike Schil’s job is to get his team ready to play. It’s it’s his job to make sure that guys are in the right place. It’s his job to uh, you know, keep the team spirit up. Like he has jobs that are behind the scenes that you don’t see that he needs to do that can help a team win or lose. And you know, whether it’s fair or not fair, a lot of times when a team loses, where does the blame go to first? The manager or the coach or, you know, whoever. Because guess what? They’re the one of, if you know, sometimes not, they’re the leaders of the team, right? So, it falls on their shoulders. I mean, what did we do here with past managers? What did we do with Jacece Tingler? What did we do with Bob Melvin to an extent? What did we do with Andy Green? Like, well, it’s But there’s Yeah. I mean, for me, it’s different between losing the clubhouse and losing your job. Well, I meant Kingler lost the clubhouse, correct? But lost the clubhouse. Yeah. No, just Andy Green the team Yeah. did quit in 2019 and Melvin just walked. Melvin did walk. But all that 2023 season, it was like sleepy Bob and nothing he’s doing is working. And you know, it’s just weird how again, this Padres’s team is on their way to the postseason unless they have a catastrophic finish. But, you know, it is interesting how the last three managers, year two is always a weird kind of year. Yeah, this would be, you’re right. I mean, that’s those odd years, right? 21, 23, 25. If this continues down the stretch, it’s those odd 2019 shoe. Yeah. And Andy was here for longer than just two. I mean, he’s here for like three and a half or four. This is He got fired with what, three games left in his fourth year, something like that. When Bar has to step to It’s just It’s just weird how those things happen like, oh, year one, everything’s great. Year two, eh, I mean, again, there there’s common denominators well beyond the the manager, Manny Mado. Yeah. I mean, Manny’s been here for four managers in seven years. Ly, thank you, man, for the super chat. He says, “It’s getting to the point where it’s almost a joke.” I mean, it is comical. It is laughable because that’s the only thing you can really do. Otherwise, you’d be crying over this. I mean, and who knows how it ends. I mean, Randy Vasquez is pitching tomorrow, right? Nester Cortez is on the L. [ __ ] up. That’s on the L. Yeah. Okay. Okay. And Randy Vasquez is one of these guys that works with a high whip and you’re pitching at Coors Field, right? He works with men on base and historically doesn’t allow the long ball, but you’re pitching at Coors Field, so I have no idea what to expect. And you know, when you lose with Nick Pette on the mound, you got a world of problems when you’re the Padres’s because you have nowhere else to turn. So when you’re losing with Nick Pavette on the mound, which has been happening here recently, you’re in a world of hurt because then you’re like, “Oh, we got to watch Dylan CE. Oh, we got to see you Darvish again. Oh, we gota see Vasquez at Course Field. Like, oh, good luck. Yeah, none of it none of it work. Like, if you can’t win with Nick Beeta, then I have no faith you can win. And I bet the team probably feels similarly. So, I’m with you, Ly. I mean, it’s it’s a joke. Sunriser, thank you, man. Very generous. Very kind of you. Thank you, man, for Guys, if you’re here, please subscribe here on Content for Pod fans. Thank you for the super chats. Click the dollar sign below the chat box. He says, “Lol, we just need Rand back, the good luck charm, and who cares whatever the stat metrics are.” Who? I don’t know who that is. Huh? Who cares that they have a 95% chance of making the postseason? I mean, I think it’s at least relevant. You have to with 21 games left, you kind of have to look at where you are in the pecking order because now it’s all about standings. All the only thing that matters is really where you stand. I mean, you’d like to be playing well, but standings are going to matter. I mean, these teams are going to stack up over the next 20 days. Are you going to Again, I’d rather be in the Padres’s spot than the Giants, but then again, I’d rather be the Giants in terms of the clubhouse because they believe they can do it, but I’d rather be in the Padres’s standing. I can’t believe that they’re that they’re one and six in their last seven games. You didn’t need to do that for a spelling mistake. Oh, Sunriser, thanks. But wow, appreciate you, man. Very kind. Randy Vasquez. Okay, let’s get some clap emojis in the chat for Sunriser. That’s very thing that gets us. There have been other generous supers from Sunriser over the years that have gotten the Padres’s going. I remember it vividly. I’m not kidding. So, m maybe it takes something like that and maybe it takes Randy Vasquez at Kors Field. Maybe. But yeah, to your point of the Giants, I mean, are you serious? They were completely I completely wrote them off. Like, see, their season was so gone so long ago. I was I was more or less talking about like the Padres’s recent stretch because I was like, “Okay, look, you got to go 11 and five in your next 16 games.” And that was last Friday. They’ve proceeded to go one and six to start. So now they got to go on negative like 11 and negative one or something. Like sure, win 10 in a row. It’s great. Yeah, right. Funny. But that’s not happening. I just I can’t believe it. I cannot believe it. If they lose another game here in Colorado and they lose this series and you come home. I mean, the only thing that’s saving your ass right now is the Dodgers suck, too. Like, is it’s incredible what has happened here and how it could have been so much worse. like so much worse. All the Dodgers had to do was like win one game in Pittsburgh. Yeah. And then if they just won tonight in Baltimore, they got walked off, but like they had multiple opportunities. I I went when I checked in on that game, they had the bases loaded and they couldn’t get it done. But like if they just won one game in Pittsburgh and then they won tonight, division’s over. Five sacks. Really? Six with 21 to play. It’s over. Well, now it’s two. That would be three additional wins. So, five back. Yeah. Right. Yeah. I guess if they had three more wins, but I mean, well, two back four and then really five. Yeah, I see what you’re saying. Yeah, you saw the stats somewhere on social media. I think we interacted with it. Like, they’re 20 and 24 over the last 44. They’ve scored the fewest runs in the National League over the last 44. They’re not good. No. Like they they wear they wear Dodgers on their chest, but like their play has not been good. It doesn’t Padres’s wear Padres’s across their chest. They also haven’t been good. I’m not saying the Dodgers can’t win the World Series. I’m not saying the Padres’s can’t win the World Series. Sports are dumb like Jim said earlier. But I’m just telling you what I’m seeing. And I’m seeing two teams that are like both not trying to win. Like it’s playing for a tie. It’s playing for a tie. And it’s a bad way to play. and it might work out in some extent for both of them. I don’t think it positions either of them well for the postseason, but who knows? I mean, a second season can change everything and whether that’s LA or San Diego or neither or both potentially. Rocket, appreciate you, man. He says, “All I can do is laugh at this point. I’m numb. Pathetic.” Yeah. Like to me, I wouldn’t be numb until like listen, if we had this conversation, Jim, and the season ends and they’re one game out. That’s the like apocalyptic numb. What the [ __ ] happened AJ Prowler? But it’s I’m not there yet. So, I’m not going to be like I’m I’m numb to it because I feel like it can be it can be turned around. I don’t know if it will, but it it can be because there’s still time. I don’t even know. Like that’s the worst case scenario. They missed out by a game and they just got and at that point I don’t even know who I’d fire. Like do I fire Mike Schil? Do you say goodbye to AJ Prowler even though I don’t I wouldn’t put the blame on AJ here. Do like where where do you what do you do? There has to be repercussions just like how we said the same thing in 2023. Like have to have repercussions. I you probably clean a house because it’s it’s that disastrous. I think when you draw like that and you invest like that, I think you just I don’t know. You prove the point even if it doesn’t even if it doesn’t serve your organization well. Yeah. I think that’s so extreme from where they were to where they’d be going that I think you have to sometimes you just got to do something. I mean just to prove points. I mean, how could you draw 3.4 million fans and then blow some type of second half like that when you add like that at the deadline? You can’t always resort to that when this team collapses because they’ve done it now, but they but they don’t always resort to the clean house. I mean, like you’re starting like at the top, right? I mean, I think you’re starting over. I don’t know. I don’t We’re we’re a ways away from that potentially happening. I’m not even gonna I’m not even gonna entertain it. Sounds I know. I know I did. Sorry. I did. You’re right. You entertaining it. I don’t think I agree. That’s why I would say hypothetically I could see that happening, but you have to miss out for that to be for that to be a real, you know, realistic on a playoff spot with 21 to play. Not impossible. No. I mean, it’s it’s not six. I mean, the team beh the team behind you. And by the way, Arizona, they play you three times at the end of the season. They’re seven and three in their last 10. Yeah. They’ve won three in a row as well. I mean, look at some of the epic Listen, you can’t say never. I’m just saying they still are in good standing. You can’t say never. There’s some You know what’s crazy examples? Like we’re back to I’m back to like looking at how many runs scored the Padres’s have this year in the National League. They’re third last in runs scored as a team to the Marlins and Pirates. No, to the Pirates and the Rockies. That’s it. That’s insane. Even the Washington sorry ass Nationals have score more scored more runs than you, man. The Yeah, that’s insane. Dave, appreciate you, man. Thank you for the super chat. Appreciate you guys hanging out. Please subscribe and thank you for the supers. Click the dollar sign below the chat box. He says they’re either missing the playoffs altogether or low-key sleeping, learning, and winning a ring. Those are the only two vibes to pick between right now. I mean, it is funny he says something like that because maybe, you know, it’s like either the best or the worst and nowhere in between. Like not a second round exit in the NLDS. Like you’re either out or you’re going to win it all or go far. I don’t know, man. It’s too hard to know. It’s too hard to say. But four games, honestly, Jim, four games with 21 to play. I mean, it it’s better than the alternative, but it’s that’s far from fully safe. Oh, far from safe. But again, to Dave’s point, like this season has felt stupid at times. Y and go look at the X thread of Alden Gonzalez yesterday. It’ll prove the point of how many teams this year just you don’t nobody can figure out. Yep. So maybe of course it would like a team that you know has an awful September barely makes it into the postseason as a six seed somehow gets hot and goes to the World Series. It’s true. It’s true. All of it remains at least possible. Spicy Mayo, thank you man. Appreciate you. He says Dodger fan here. Both of our teams crashing hard. I mean, I’m even seeing that now in my comments. Like, I’m seeing people like fully, they’re not even like talking trash. They’re like, “How are you not taking advantage of this? I’m a Dodger fan. We have been awful. I cannot believe we’re two games up in this division.” Like, I mean, this is probably some of the worst regular season baseball the Dodgers have played in the last 20 years. They had that stretch. Remember, they went to a World Series, they were awful over a 20 game stretch in like 17 or 18. I mean, just awful. Like two and 18, three and 17 type stuff. And I think they went to the World Series that year. So it’s this isn’t unprecedented for them. And Kevin’s talked about teams struggling but making World Series, but I mean I think a lot of Dodger fans are watching their team like what the hell happened to the team that won the World Series last year that added on. So like I think they feel the same insecurities that Padres’s fans are feeling. Of course they feel them differently because they’re a year removed from winning a World Series. Yeah. Like every time I check up on the Dodgers and see what they’re doing, I’m like, “Oh god, they’re losing to the Pirates.” Like what? There’s they’re awful. Um guys in the back spasms and scratch starts. Like it’s already one of the more disappointing seasons you could remember from a team just in the sheer sense of like they spent so much money in the offseason and they’ve spent so much money on this team that it’s almost expected every year you have to dominate. I mean people were saying this team is going to win 115 games 116 117 games this year. break the all-time record for most wins in a season, breaking the Mariners record. And they’re going to potentially go in the postseason as a three seed or a six seed. Woof. Yeah. I mean, their conversation is a little different because, you know, as we sit here, we’re like, “Wow, the Padres’s are four up.” And I see all these comments, you see them, Jim, everyone’s like, “They’re going to miss the playoffs. They’re going to miss the playoffs. Trust me, they’re out.” And I’m still like, “I disagree, but we’ll see.” But the one difference between the Dodgers and the Padres’s is it’s much more unlikely the Dodgers would flat out miss because they’re two games better than the Padres’s. I mean, it would be an epic collapse for the Dodgers to miss the play. They’d go have to go like three and 18. Yeah. To miss the postseason. I still find that unlikely. Now, I think the Padres’s would have to, you know, again, fall flat as well over these last 21 games. But I think the Dodgers, because they’re two games better than the Padres’s, I find it very unlikely that they’re on the outside looking in. Jack, appreciate you, man. He says, “If the year ends in disaster, do you look to negotiate these no trades to move players, eat money, cut payroll, and firings top to bottom?” All right, so we’re a couple of minutes in front of a super chat like this. There’ll be a lot of change. There’ll be a lot of change. It’s to Jim’s point, it’s too early to go down the path. Of course, there’ll be so much change if they actually miss the postseason, but there are certain players you’re not moving because they do have no trade closes and that’s why they have them. So there’s a lot would stay the same, but I think a lot would change. Um I I can’t get over the fact that like if this thing ended in complete disaster, which I don’t and we don’t think it it will, but I still don’t think it will. You traded the number one prospect in baseball for a guy that we don’t even see because they’re losing every night. Who for a guy who never pitches? He never pitches. and you missed the postseason. If you want to fire AJ for that, go ahead. But like, of course, I would of course he would tell you and I would tell you. It’s not like Mason Miller was here just for the postseason run of 2025, but it’s fair. Yeah. But but holy [ __ ] I don’t know, man. I mean, how many meaningful innings has Mason Miller I know he’s thrown whatever. He’s got his 11 or 12 innings. I’m sure a number of them have been valuable, but there’s been one or two or three times they’ve just pitched them. So, he’s only thrown like six. That’s what I’m saying. Like, there’s only been six or seven you got to have at innings for Mason Miller since they acquired him would be my guess. Six. Yeah. Like, and I don’t I don’t know if that’s like true or not, but it feels like it. I don’t think it’s less than that. And by the way, if it is six, remember one of the six he didn’t come through it, right? He gave up a game run. So, think about that. If if he’s been in seven ridiculously high leverage spots and he’s six and one, so to speak, you know, he’s come through six times, it’s six times, it’s not that much if you think about it, the grand scheme of the second half of the year. The last couple times that he’s pitched for this team, they’ve been trailing because they just they got to use them. You cannot use them. Yeah, they’re in a very weird spot right now. Sunriser, thank you, man. He says, “We lost five straight. Let’s just win one and hoping the rest resets. I mean, the fans really need to pick it up. We have lost five in a row. It’s our 100% 100% this is on the uh this is on the fans. I mean, the truth is though to Sunisers’s point just win two games in a row somewhere, you know? Like just win Saturday, Sunday or win Monday, Tuesday against the like it’s not going to take a ton to change how you feel about their playoff chances in my opinion. I mean, [ __ ] they could win two games this weekend and pick up a game or two on LA. It is like, we’ve said that for every game the night before. I know all week long. Like, just win a game in in in Minnesota and they lose two or three. Just win a game against the Orioles, they get swept. Just win in Colorado tonight. They they look like dog [ __ ] Like, who did they play before the Twins that they lost the series to? Mariners win in Seattle. They lost. This thing went on a just avalanche slide after that Dodgers game. Man, that Dodger game, it’s like, what did we say? Don’t let don’t get beat twice by the Dodgers. They’ve been beaten 12 times by the Dodgers. It feels like that Sunday game has cost them like 10 games. And the Dodgers have been clean onto that win against the Padres’s for the last two weeks. It’s insane. Cuz without that win, are they tied? Yeah, they’re tied. It’s two game swing, dude. And Pavetta had a two-1 lead in that game in the sixth inning. They lost 8-2 or whatever it was 83. And and the chances of them meeting in the first round, the wild card were minuscule and now they’re it’s a real possibility. It’s a real possibility. We’ll see if it happens, but it’s absolutely a real possibility. Uh Vector 53, thank you, man, for the membership and the super chat. Guys, if you are here, thank you for the u memberships and thank you for those that have clicked the dollar sign down below. Please subscribe to the channel as well. Um Vector says, “Getting real tough to watch this team right now.” I mean, they’re impossible to watch. I watched this entire game. It was paint dry. I had this on. So, I had this on my phone. I had YouTube on the NFL. I was like watching like whatnot streams. I had like five different screens up and the whole time I’m watching the Padres’s and I couldn’t believe like I figured it was just inevitable. There’d be two on, nobody out. There, you know, they would just score. It’s so simple against the Rockies this year. How many runs have they allowed? A thousand runs. Thousand runs. I mean, I never even It didn’t even cross my mind when Kyle Frillin was perfect through 13 batters. The Padres’s wouldn’t score. I honestly and then and then they freaking go to their bullpen the night and the guy goes walk single 3-1 and O’Harn. I’m like they’re winning this game. Walk single. 3-1 O’Harn. Machado on deck. They will find a way to win this game. And O’Harn flies out and Machado grounds into a 5-3 double play. And I’m 100% with you on Machado. But I do want to mention the fact that O’Harn’s numbers here. Like look at them. Look at the distinction between Baltimore and here. They’re not good. Um he’s 125 points off his OPS in Baltimore. And it’s not just him, but I’m just telling you like all that O’Harn, you know, first 10day love that he got, he’s come completely back. Um Tatis, we’ve talked about Mel. We’ve talked about like the the one player that has been a constant is Raone Lauraniano. That’s it. The one player, it’s not Ryan O’Harn. He’s he’s had moments. A lot of these guys have had moments, but the one constant for them from August 1st on is Raone Laurian. Gavin Sheets had his stretches, but it hasn’t been perfect since August 1, but I mean, it’s one player that’s kind of carried them, and they haven’t even been carried because they’re not playing well. No, that that falls on the team. I mean, the guy that you brought in at the trade deadline shouldn’t be your best player right away. We said that he should be he should be the compliment and he should elevate your team, not be the only guy that’s doing anything. I mean, this is a career year from Raone Lauraniano overall for sure. I mean, 300 average, 22 home runs, 905 OPS, 70 RBI’s. Unbelievable. Incredible. He’s had a better He’s had a better He’s had a better year than Manny. It’s probably not that close, right? And the crazy part is the crazy part is like when you look at the numbers just on the surface it’s like oh he’s had a better year. He’s also had like 200 less played appearances than Manny Machado this year. And this year he’s got 377 played appearances or at bats, excuse me. And Manny’s got 544. Wow. They both have 22 home runs. both around the same number of RBI’s and he has a significantly better OPS than Manny. So, he just forced his way through. He wasn’t even a regular the first two months of the season basically. Correct. Yeah. Yeah. That’s insane. That’s That’s really insane. I mean, I just yesterday like, is there any real reason to believe it all changed tonight? And we went into it saying no, not necessarily. I mean, yes, you have Nick Beeta, but his numbers were awful against the Rockies in his career. and this offense just hasn’t done anything. Um he says against the wall this team shrinks. Same story. Um in terms of just like collapsing. Yeah. I don’t know. I mean they didn’t collapse last year down the stretch. Yeah. They collapse. They didn’t collapse in 22 down the stretch. They they did well every team collapses in the postseason except you know the champion. But they didn’t collapse like this. I mean this is a completely different story. This is a regular season freaking tail spin. Yeah. The only solace is I mean to that there’s 21 games remaining and teams around you are collapsing as well. Um I mean some of them right I just I just want to believe that they’re going to beat these shitty teams, right? Like it’s not it shouldn’t be this hard against some of the worst teams in the sport and it is. Yeah. Yeah. Good point. I mean, if they’re playing the Brewers and the Phillies and the Cubs and the Giants right now, it’s like I could Okay, those are those are that’s tough. It’s like a gauntlet right there. But I mean the Orioles and the Rockies and the Twins like I mean you’re going to face series at home to the Rockies can and like they can’t lose three out of four at home to the Rockies, right? No, no, no, no. It’s not possible. So if you get a splitter or better there, that’s two wins. I’m just trying to add up the wins. And then it’s like you played just bottom feeding teams for the last week plus and now the Reds come into town. The Reds look like a juggernaut compared to the to the the Rockies and the Orioles and and the Twins of the world and they’re still competing for a wild card spot. It might be far-fetched but you know Yeah. It’s brutal. It is brutal. It really is. Um, this is kind of funny. JDMLSR2000 says, “Have daily hitters meetings been discontinued?” I got into it again with someone that’s like, “It’s still not Victor Rodriguez’s fault, right, John?” I’m like, “Okay.” I mean, you want to go there? It’s all his fault. How freelance shoves that Victor Rodriguez gave him the wrong scouting report. I mean, sure. Let By the way, among the people that will lose their job if the Padres’s missed the postseason is Victor Rodriguez. So, I’m not going to tell you they’re going to like extend Victor Rodriguez if they miss the post, everyone’s gonna lose their job. So, and Victor Rodriguez is in the category of everyone. So, they’re all going to be held accountable for this team’s performance, but like to put Manny’s struggles, to put Merryill’s struggles, to put Totty’s struggles on Victor Rodriguez to me is unfair, but that’s how sports work. Yeah. I it when you don’t when you don’t win, people get blamed and people lose their jobs. Especially guys, you know, here’s the thing. Everyone’s like, “Oh, I feel so bad. These guys are mil these guys make a lot of money.” I don’t feel bad for either one. I I don’t f I don’t feel bad for anybody. I don’t. It’s It’s the way of it’s the way things work in sports. And when you get paid as much money as these guys get paid, don’t feel bad for them. The one the one group I kind of do feel bad for is like the coaches, not the managers. True. That is true. That’s the one thing. It’s like the coaches don’t get, especially in baseball, like I’d be surp What do the hidden coaches make? Again, they make more than you and I and most of our viewers. I mean, they’re making hundreds of thousands of dollars, but they’re not making millions of dollars. And losing a job is costly obviously. Um Dave, appreciate you, man. Thank you for the super. Says Phillies, Brewers, NLCS, and neither of us nor the Dodgers even sniff it. very of course it’s possible that neither the Padres’s or the Todd in the NLCS. Of course that might be likely at this point. Yeah, Brewers played the Phillies recently and that did look like an NLCS matchup. That’s for sure. Yeah, it’s a great point. That could absolutely be one. You’re right. Uh Ballpark Pretzel, thank you, man. He says, “Don’t forget Shields lawsuit. This window is closed.” I don’t know what’s going on with that. Like if it’ll be resolved, settled. Um I don’t know what impact in the offse we’ll hear more and then it’ll become a bigger story once again. Um, I don’t know. Yeah, I don’t think. But again, like when I think about what’s playing out on field, it has nothing to do with that. Now, could that impact the organization moving forward? Of course, but this should not be impacting the way the team is playing obviously, right? Sunriser, thank you. Says, “My rant in personal groups, Todd, Manny, Merrill are not having a good run, being nice, and not and what and net show up for us to have a season. we can be proud of. Um, proud of I mean they’ve Yeah. What are their com I would love to see their combined batting on base slug. Take the three players, add it all up and divide it out. The combined batting on base slug for those three players is obviously well under 800 because Merryill’s under 800 and Totty’s under 800 and Manny’s at 803. So that’s like a I’ll just make it up right now. That’s a 775 collective ops from your big three heading into the year. 775 ops. Like you’re 100 points off where you need to be collectively with those three players, maybe more. Probably 100 points. It’s a big problem. It’s been a big issue. Yeah, that that’s where the blame goes to. It goes to Todd. It goes to Manny. It goes to Mel. Those three guys, that’s your core. Xander’s hurt right now. I’d put him in that category as well, but he’s hurt. Those three guys are out there. They’re awful. Awful. They’ve had I know ex like I said, Boggart is a very forgettable player. Um I Yeah, dude. the these this team other than Raone Lauraniano who most of his season he was with another team. Yep. Nobody’s having a career year or even close to a career year offensively in the lineup. Yeah, just it’s so true. It’s true. Abraham, thank you, man. He says midado. What is even the explanation? What what is our theory on Machado? just hurt, old, bad, tired, doesn’t care. Tough stretch. All the above. Yeah. I mean, you could you could make a case if you wanted to. All the above. Like I can make a case for every single one of those points you just made, but I think the the best way to describe it is everything you just said, lump it all into one big giant turd ball and that’s the explanation. Like all of this looks so bad. It looks so bad. He even made a play tonight. Like defensively, he made a play. I didn’t think he tagged the runner out going to third. Oh, when he just walked into the dude. You’re saying like he didn’t even go to third. He just like waited there for the runner to run into him. Yeah, it was again I I was driving at the time and so I had like on the phone and it was just a weird situation. So I didn’t like get I think that’s what you’re referring to. Yeah. I I looked at the phone and I saw the ball on the ground and Manny kind of just standing there and I’m like did he just [ __ ] up another defensive play? I don’t know. Something’s going on. I I wish I knew. Don’t you wish you knew everything like in terms of what goes on behind the scenes because there’s so much that goes on. Get these guys on the field. If you if you knew if you knew what was going on behind the scenes, but by the way, behind the scenes is hundred times worse than what what everyone sees. Yeah. Look. Yeah. If if we knew everything that’s going on behind closed doors, I feel like this show would be harsher. No, 100%. 100%. like we we’re we’re pretty like we’re harsh when this team is is playing like [ __ ] but we also praise this team when they play well. Um but I I think it’s probably best that we don’t know everything. Uh because it would change our opinions on a lot of things. I feel like Yeah, I completely agree with that. Like like oh like I just just a hypothetical random like who’s one of the most beloved players on the team. Let’s just say Udarvish Merrill. Okay, let’s just say Udarvish as an example. And if we knew everything, what if what if we found out Udarvish is like a total [ __ ] You know what I mean? I don’t think you would, but that’s hilarious. But I you get my point of like I don’t want to know everything. So like Yeah. In my eyes, Udarish is a gem of a human being. He’s just not good on the baseball field right now. But if I found out behind closed doors he’s a complete [ __ ] Again, that would change a lot of my opinion on Ud Darvish. Instead of being like like, “Oh man, I just really wish you Darvish would just pick it up and be better.” I’d be like, “Fuck that guy.” You know, like So, yeah, it’s I don’t want to know everything. Yeah. What I was kind of alluding to and and what you said is is funny. What I’m alluding to is if we knew what it takes to get these guys on the field. Like we just see a line car, we’re like, “Oh yeah, what?” And dude, like Manny’s freaking like, and again, this is an excuse. He plays every day. And I don’t know, maybe the guy’s body is perfect right now. Or maybe he’s freaking in the training room for like two and a half hours and like, “Dude, we can’t even get you on the field.” And he’s like, “Well, DH.” And you remember what he said just the other day? He’s like, “I should have taken an off day earlier. I didn’t. And guess what? I ain’t taking one now.” Who the hell knows though what his body is like? That’s also the I get what you’re saying. Yeah, I totally get what you’re saying. And it would and for other media members in town, they would use that as like the ultimate excuse. While it is a or while it would be an excuse, at the same time, it’s like, well, you’re out there every day. I get it. I get it. I agree. I didn’t say that. Sad fryer. I know. We know you didn’t. He’s kidding. He’s kidding. Um, guys, we do want to remind you about our friends over at Segeek. They’ve got a terrific offer going on for you guys right now. Let’s get to some of these supers that have been rolling in here over the last uh 30 minutes or so. We appreciate you guys for hanging out on this Friday night as the Padres’s lose game one in Denver 3 nothing. Uh JD St. Thank you, man. He says AJ absolutely deserves some of the blame here. He should be judged on the totality of his 11-year record. No pitching depth, zero major runs or wins. Yeah, it’s for the end of the year, isn’t it? Because if they’re in, you’re not really judging AJ. I don’t think if you’re the organization. If you’re out, everything is on the table. It’s just it’s too hard to have that conversation, I think, with 21 games to play. Yeah. I I can’t It’s not even in my I can’t even think about that right now. Yeah. Neither can I. I’m more concerned about what the hell’s going on with freaking Michael King. Did you hear Schill today talk about Michael King? Yeah. Is it whenever he returns? He’s like, “We’re on the timetable.” I’m like, “Okay, cool.” Oh, is that pre or post? Pre. No, I didn’t hear it. Even though I No, I didn’t hear it. Yeah. The very first part he goes like this is his first answer to uh asking about the status of Michael King. Um yeah, no timetable. I mean, that’s probably as big as anything we haven’t I mean, we’ve spent an hour talking about tonight’s game and pull this up. Let me pull this up. That’s probably the biggest biggest part of the night. Let me hear it. You have it on your email. Just put on your email, right? Yeah. Yeah. Because I I don’t Yeah. Stand by. But are you going to hear it off my I have AirPods. Oh, hold on. I can send it to you. Sure. Yeah. Send it to me real quick. Yeah. I sense it’s your iHeart. Okay. I think you just received it. If my thing would load. You’re probably using your like old computer. I’m on my computer. Oh, yeah. Why is this doing this? There we go. Jesus. All right, David. I’ll pull this up in a second. An update on uh King and where he stands in his timeline, please. Um don’t know about the timeline. Um but he had a really good day yesterday. Threw a game in Arizona. Um you know, they call it bridge camp. It was against another team. went five innings right at 62 pitches. Um feel his position. Um felt good afterwards, feels good today and optimistic about a start for the Padres’s coming up soon and will determine when. Oh, that wasn’t that wasn’t bad. No, but still there’s no timetable, right? Well, he knows if he says something he’s going to look bad when they don’t hit that date, you know. True. But that didn’t that didn’t sound bad. Well, Kevin today was like, “Yeah, I forget what he fully said, but it wasn’t like everything’s fine.” Basically, well, he better get out there in the next few days. Otherwise, I have no faith in King impacting them. No, he’s like the key to a lot of things here. In turn, I have no faith with them in the postseason should they make it if they don’t have Michael King. That’s a big part of it. Well, stop presses. Stop everything. What we got? Stop everything. Whoa. What on earth? Sunriser, you think the Pers have won five straight? A $100 super chat from Sunriser. Clapping emojis in the chat. Thank you, Sunriser. We really appreciate. You didn’t have to, but you did, and you are amazing. Thank you very much. A $100 super chat. Sunriser says, uh, to Omar and Stephen, thanks for letting me know. Love the Padres’s and that’s what matters to me and the rest. So what? Padres’s are winning tomorrow. They better [ __ ] win tomorrow. Tomorrow I feel to my bones. I feel Randy Vasquez going eight innings like Kyle Freeland tonight. Not all tomorrow, just eight innings throughout the course of his career. He’s gonna pitch eight innings remain of the year. That’s super cool. Appreciate it, man. Appreciate you, man. Really do appreciate you. very kind, especially with everything going on right now with this team. It’s very kind. Uh David, I appreciate you as well. I don’t even know what is this. What What is this uh dollar type? That little symbol. Do you know, Jim, why would I ask you? Why are you asking me? Does someone know? Put in the chat. Say yen. Um but thank you, man. It says, “Non troll Dodger fan. It’s mental at this stage. Just know quote unquote winning spirit. Even a one-off win is anticlimactic, deflating. Finally, we won feeling.” Is he talking about it from a From a Dodger perspective, when the Dodgers win or or the Padres’s, he’s a nontrol Dodger fan. It’s mental at this stage. Just no winning spirit. Even a one-off win is anticlimactic. I almost feel like he’s talking about the Dodgers for maybe both teams. I mean, you just maybe it is like they’re just scratching and clawing and just get one win. But even after if they just get one win, doesn’t mean that they’ve turned things around 100%. I mean, it’s interesting. I I don’t disagree. I get you’re like not happy with a win. You’re almost like relieved. You’re like, “Oh, thank God they didn’t lose.” 100%. 100%. Yeah, that’s a fair point. Appreciate you, man. Abraham, thank you. He says, “Blame Machado for his [ __ ] captain role and not being clutch.” Per for trying to build a team around Midado, who by the way is not clutch. That’s a whole another conversation how to build a team. And like Machado has been here and isn’t going anywhere. I mean, could you argue the merits of building your franchise around Manny Machado? Sure, but that’s probably not for tonight either. Could you argue that? Of course you could. Yeah. I I don’t want to get into the philosophical conversation about building around Manny Machado or not. Yeah. He’s highs and lows, man. His whole career here. Yeah. Highs and lows. But yeah, I can’t get into the should you build around Manny. They did. Seven years ago, they elected to. There’s been some good. There’s been some awful. And they’ve also the last seven years have had the most success in franchise history. You could argue. You could argue. Yeah. Over seven years period. I know. Yeah. That trumps all. But and that’s it’s also contingent on them making the postseason this year because if you have disaster collapse 2023 and disaster collapse 2025 and by the way disaster collapse 2021 and disaster collapse but it really matters if they just quit in 2019. His first year here. Yeah. Exactly. RH, appreciate you, man. Says, “No starting Padres’s pitcher outside of Nick P would make Padres’s a favorite to win any game at this point. This ends badly. There’s no rescue too late.” Okay, wait. No starting pitcher outside of Paveta would make Padres’s a favorite. No, that’s not true. And the reason I say that is when you’ve got Cease at home against the Rockies, guess who’s going to be the favorite? The Padres’s. When you have Jarvis at home against the Rockies, guess who’s the favorite? Padres’s. You get the point. Like they they’ll be favorite at home a number of times down the stretch. Even without Nick Bevet on the mound, they will because they’re not playing great teams. Now, they can be favored every night. That’s fair. They’re not, but they’ll be favored eight, 10, 12 times down the stretch because they’re not playing good teams. Now, they just got to My guess is they’re favored. Well, the Brewers series at home, we’ll see. They’re good home teams. Met series on the road. We’ll see about that. Other than that, they should be favored in I want to say every game remaining. Yeah, they’ll be favored against the White Sox. They’ll be favored against the Rockies. They’ll be favored at home against the Reds. You’d like. Yeah. So that’s three plus six, that’s nine. Plus three more, it’s 12. That’s a lot of games. 15. You got about 15 games there. You you should be favored in all of them. Yeah. And there’s a handful. They won’t be, but Yeah. Yeah. Um JD’s third says, “Did you catch uh Mr. Mcoo on Ben & Woods?” Appreciate you bringing that up here in the super. He is such a character, and I don’t mean this in a good way. He’s in over his head, overrated, and outmatched. Did you talk about this at all on John and Jim today? I didn’t talk about that specifically. You can brought it up if you want. I mean, everyone heard it. Yeah. I saw I saw it on social media. Um I even like here’s the thing. The dude, and I’ve said this before, so it’s like I’m not saying anything differently. like he’s just a very insecure person when it comes to somebody outside the baseball world questioning him about his moves and you know Woods caught him like dead to rights. There’s no way around it. And I don’t know if that was like his intention, like if he thought like I’m gonna get him with this, but it morphed into that and it was a complete like actually uh no gotcha. And it wasn’t like a gotcha to a question. And it just it was like a a gotcha in the fact of like what you’re explaining to everybody right now makes no [ __ ] sense because it’s easily refutable with many moves this franchise has made as recently as last year with Xander Bogart’s going to second base never playing second base. Jackson Merrill going to center field never playing center field. Gavin Ferno Tatis Jr. Now, Mike Schill wasn’t here for that for that move. They did it. Remember way back in the day, they had Will Meyers playing third base? I remember. Yeah. So, like it’s not this crazy taboo thing and it was just a silly like joking half-hearted question from Woods and it was like he took it the complete wrong way and you just roll your eyes and you’re like this [ __ ] guy doesn’t get it. He doesn’t get it. He doesn’t read the room very well and he gets uber defensive over the smallest of things. Oh my god. Like dude, like we’re not questioning you as a man. We’re just questioning decisions that come up over 162 games. Like that’s the job of the media. Ask questions. Fans want to know answers. And by the way, well, it made it look even worse because Marty has Merrill on tape saying he’d love to play shortstop. I know. I know. I know. So, it made Mike Shield even look more like a [ __ ] idiot. You’re talking about a 22-year-old that’s a professional athlete. Like, he he could handle it if he really wanted to try. You know what I mean? Like, this isn’t rocket science. He came up a middle. He could do it. Yeah, he could do it. And if he commits an error, so be it. It’s okay. Um Omar, thank you, man, for the super chat. Says, “Joe Musgro’s postseason return will be spectacular.” Shoot. Postseason you might see in the next two weeks. Way this thing is unfolding. He’ll be he’ll be the opener for some games. The question is he gonna be pitching in Cancun to open the postseason or in San Diego to open the postseason. Um Grayson, thank you man for the membership in the Super. Says, “I’m not a doomer. I just want to see some fight outside of Lauraniano. Get mad, pick someone up, do something. Aren’t they tired of hearing they were the best team last year?” They were. Dude, we’re not that far removed from them being one of the best teams in baseball this year. I know. Like the best roster talk, no weak links, 14 and three. I’m not talking 14 and three to start. I’m talking 14 and three in August, right? Like that August, it’s September. Like it’s not long ago. It was like literally three weeks ago they were 14 and three. So I I do not know what happened. Like I would love the Is it is it Jason Adam and Xander Bogarts and Jackson Mero went down and Manny Machado is not healthy, you know? Like is it all that, right? Is it just they’re not healthy and and that’s the straw that broke the camel? Maybe. Or is it just a combination of things? I I know it’s a combination of things. I just wish I knew the exact combination of what it was. Dude, I I don’t I don’t know. It’s a You’re right. It’s a combination of things that’s just snowballed and maybe that loss to the Dodgers on Sunday just felt like such a bad loss to them inside that clubhouse where they were up 2-1 Estrada and then Shield gets pissy postgame and looks and just can’t handle some basic [ __ ] question and and then just like snowballed since then. But if it is the Dodger Sunday, that’s like your girlfriend breaking up with you in 2016 and in 2022 you’re like, I’m so pissed at her Instagram. Like, dude, it was six years ago. Like, it’s so a week time is I I wouldn’t say a week is like six years, but I like you can’t allow a a game from four series ago to impact your play is my point. Yeah, maybe not six years, but you get my point. It’s like, dude, she broke up with you three years ago. Like, it’s time to move on. And like, okay, so the Dodgers beat you. You can’t let them be in your head for years on end. They beat you in the postseason last year, too. Like, at some point, you just got to get over it. And they’ve lost two key players of the team in the last two weeks as well. Exactly. Exactly. Run it back. Thank you, Manny. Says, “Time to move Manny out of the third, fourth spot.” To where? He’s not going anywhere. Manny seventh. You can’t just move Manny to the five spot and be like, “Everything’s good. You want to lose Manny Machado, bat him sixth, dude. Absolutely. You holy [ __ ] Can you imagine? Just the idea of that writing his name six. He’d be sixth in the lineup. I I would be scared for Mike Shield. It’d be amazing if he did something like I mean I don’t even think he’d play. I think he’d scratch himself to be honest. I think if he was sixth in the lineup, he’d say, “My leg hurts.” I honestly believe that. Me, too. I do. You’d be like, “Ah, Skip, can’t go tonight.” Actually, my knee, my shoulder. I’m telling you, like, it ain’t happening. There’s an unwritten rule. Manny, if there’s one thing that I do know about what goes on in that clubhouse, Manny Machado runs that clubhouse. And I’m talking about down to like the clubies in that clubhouse. He controls who comes in that that his space, who he doesn’t want in that space. If you got a if he if problem with you, good luck staying inside that clubhouse because he is the man that runs that place. I know that for a fact. Yeah. No one has the balls because it starts at the top. This is like the Peter Sidler signed you and extended you and AJ Prowler is your GM and Mike Schultz’s not your first manager. There’s way too many political motivations. There’s no there’s too much politics in moving Manny Machado in Atlanta. It just is not going to happen. Um, all right. You’re going to break down Justin Herbert’s, uh, slide, which is probably better than any Padre slide today, truthfully. Jay’s third. Thank you. Here’s the one thing about Justin Herbert, by the way. Let me just say let me just say the one thing about Justin Herbert Charger talk that has potentially um elevated him into like top tier QB status. Okay, you know where I’m going with this. No, because I don’t care. He recently started dating a woman by the name of Madison Beer. And look, if you’re going to be I mean, let’s just face it. If you’re going to be a top tier quarterback in the league, it’s it’s, you know, your your game’s got to improve on and off the field. And pulling Madison Beer, that’s elite right there. Um, is no surprise to me that he played as well as he did tonight. When you play for an iconic franchise, you know, iconic franchise. I’m kidding. It’s like the 32nd most iconic franchise in the NFL. JD’s third. Thank you. Um Kevin AC and Dennis Lynn will write an expose after the season about the turbulence and chaos in the clubhouse and how the Divas stunk it up. Maybe if it goes south. Yeah. Like be like hate like hate them even more. Look at this from Sunriser, man. Oh, Sunriser, bro. Thank you, dude. Do you like we need like a level of membership just for Sunriser? Like we need like top tier membership like Sunriser and then like every other member. Um appreciate you. Love all our members though. Especially Sunriser who says, “Good night. Thank you both for taking the taking the time most evenings to talk about our team. Appreciate hearing your thoughts.” Happy to do it, man. Happy to do it. Um there’s good. Listen, this year has had everything. We had the amazing star 14 and three skyh high 14 and three trade deadline stuff. skyhigh now the complete bottom for the last 10 plus days. Hopefully that changes. It typically in this sport things change. I mean it doesn’t often just stay the same. I I’m quasi confident that this does not continue for the next 21 games. I’ve been wrong before. You know, nobody really controls it. I I can’t deal I can’t deal with 21 more games of this. No, I can’t deal with the the five and 16 finish. I mean I cannot deal with a five and 16 finish against these [ __ ] teams they’re playing. So hopefully it’s the opposite. Maybe it’s a 16 and five finish. And by the way, if they did something like that, again, it feels like nothing could be further from a 16-5 finish or a 15-6 finish. If they did it, they won the division because I I’m not trusting the Dodgers to all of a sudden go 16 and five. They can’t score a run. So they’re they’re a run away from winning this division. They’ve done it twice this year, 14 and three twice. Can they do it one more time? Doesn’t seem like it’s overly probable, but who the hell knows? All right. Um here’s the deal. Uh they’ve lost nine of 11. They’ve lost nine of 11. Yeah. So wait, hold on. Is that right? Yeah. They won two. Yeah. Nine of 11. Right. Chill, John. We should all chill. 11 games, right? Do you have social media? Look at social media, dude. You’d think the Padres’s were freaking moving to Europe after this 11 game stretch. I don’t know if this person actually has watched Padres’s baseball, but yeah. Promo code bums, but it’s just one game, but people are telling me promo code one game, guys. Promo game. Thanks, guys.

The Padres dropped a fifth straight game on Friday, this time to the lowly Rockies at Coors Field in Denver. San Diego managed just three hits in the game as Kyle Freeland threw just 88 pitches in eight dominant innings, retiring the first 13 batters in a row.

  1. We all know they're in a funk, and we can all complain about the lack of production. But I remain optimistic, that they will turn it around and get hot when it matters!!!

  2. Thank god football is back. Padres baseball is so disappointing every single year over and over again. It is always the same story. Manny goes cold in the playoffs and they never make it to the world series.

  3. Never thought I would see the Padres make Freeland look like Cy Young. Team needs a wake up or some VAR from someone in the clubhouse and fast. Every team has these letdown, just not usually against cellar dwellers.

  4. I said it before I’ll say it again LA and SD are trying to outdo each other for the worst collapse. SD has a slight lead. But I fear you guys are gonna get your shit together before we do. We’re out two catchers now. 😅

  5. Where is the Manny that pulls the team together in the dug out and inspires them to get their shit together and play Padres ball?? Oh wait he's chewing his gum and counting his $$$$$.

  6. I’m glad you clarified the Sandy Koufax question… Respectfully, not only is he alive but he attends a lot of dodger games sits right up front in his beautiful box and spends time with the players. All part of the great dodger tradition… Which doesn’t seem to be equating to anything at this point. Lol

  7. At this point I think Padres Fans and Dodgers Fans have given up on the rivalry (for now) and just wishes their team would win a goddamn game! 🫠

  8. As a LAD fan it's frustrating watching LA and SD crap all over themselves. Both teams have the same problems…stars not performing and mismanagement buy their managers which filters to the LR. At least Shildt changes the lineup and protects his players that are struggling.
