🔴LIVE 🔴 Los Angeles Dodgers VS Baltimore Orioles /September 06/ mlb envivo/MLB THE SHOW 25

Inner League Baseball on MLB The Show. It’s the Los Angeles Dodgers taking on the Baltimore Orioles. All right, we’ll be back to get this one started after this. Please welcome [Applause] Oreo just about set to go now. And on the hill in this one, Cade Povich. But Chris, he hasn’t exactly been stellar here on his home mound. Well, I’ll say this. Every player wants to perform well at their home ballpark, in front of their fans, in front of the city. And you know, this guy no different. He wants to be more effective here. So, you know, you look at the numbers, they haven’t been great at home. I’m sure he wants to turn that around and we’ll see if he’s able to start that in this one. Sharp grounder. That’s through for a base hit. What was that? So, a runner aboard to start the inning. Couldn’t have timed it up any better than that. Smash that one through the infield for the knock. When it’s hit that hard, it makes it very tough on the infielders to make any sort of play. And now it’s Mukie Betts. Good defender. He’s been inconsistent offensively. Ruer takes off. Swinging a miss. Throw to second. Ow. Well, this is a real momentum killer after the leadoff single. Tried to steal second base on the first pitch. Defense was all over it. Nicely done from behind the plate with the catch and throw. Then a quick tag before he reaches the base. One out. Base is empty. [Applause] Next offering in there for a strike. And that’s strike two. Knocks that one away. And we’ll do it again. One down. base is empty. Gets a piece there. We’ll do it again. And a fast ball misses outside for a ball. Now one and two. Eighth pitch of the at coming up. comes up empty as he chases that one in the dirt. Throw to first and it beats him for out number two. That’s a strike out. That’s about as nasty of a splitter as you’ll come across, especially in terms of movement. I mean, that thing tumbles out of his hand and just drops off the table at the last moment. If he keeps it down, it’s just so tough to put wood on. And up to the plate is Will Smith. Ground ball up the middle. That’s a base hit. Joey gets on base and keeps it going. Batting fourth, first baseman, Freddy Freeman. And here’s Freddy Freeman. Another solid power season down the middle for a strike. 4 and one. Fast ball is outside. Next pitch is downstairs. line drive. Carlson makes the grab and that is that. One left for LA and now the O’s will get their first crack at it. No score. You’re watching Major League Baseball exclusively on the show. And we’re back. And today’s starting pitcher, number 80, Chris. He’s got the ability to take control of a game when he’s out there. Well, incredible mound presence and he’s going to attack hitters. You look at that strikeout per nine ratio over 10 coming into this start. So, he’s a pitcher that wants the ball. He’s aggressive. He knows that he can get the swing and miss, especially when he needs it most. We’ll see how effective he is in this one. There’s a swing and a drive. That one carrying And it’s into the bleachers. Out of here. He made him pay for that one. His 17th of the year. And it gives him the lead in the first. It’s one- nothing. He only needed one swing to square it up. Not wasting any time in that at bat. Boo. Aggressive. And it paid off. [Applause] That home run was a no doubter. as we dive into the numbers with Stackcast. Crushed Boo. Just absolutely crushed. 112 mph on the exit VO. And like you said, no doubt about that one. Plenty of launch angle to give it that backspin as well. And that carried way over the wall. Jeremiah Jackson the next to hit. First pitch misses. Always exciting to see a laid-off home run in an inning. kind of gets the offense fired up and you start to expect a big inning. [Applause] The one slider right there with the big bats coming up and a home run already surrendered. He’s really going to have to execute against these next couple of batters. just missed. Swing and a high-fly ball to left. Call calls it in and there’s one away. Time now to take a look at the Orioles lineup. put together by manager Brandon Hyde. A really frustrating showing for them in their last game. Lots of traffic on the bases, but they left a ton of runners on base. Couldn’t cash in their chances. Chris, they had plenty of chances. There’s nobody to blame it on but themselves offensively. They just did a poor job converting in those situations. You have to figure out what’s your plan going to be. Maybe watch some tape from the last game. Make the adjustments. So, if you get those opportunities in this one, you’ve got a much better chance of scoring some runs. Next offering is in for a strike. He doesn’t seem to like to pitch up. Hasn’t offered on either one of those pitches. 02 count now. I think the guy’s going to climb the ladder out there. Swings through it and that’s a strike out. Just blown away in that at bat. Three fast balls, all strikes. He wasn’t even able to foul one off. There’s not much you can take away from an at bat like that as a hitter other than maybe there’s something wrong with your eyes. Got to have better timing on the fast ball next time. Oh, great stop. And that’s a nice play to end the inning. Solo homer brings in one for Baltimore. It’s now a one- nothing ball game. Major League Baseball is on the show. new inning getting started now. It’s the right fielder to Oscar Hernandez. Hernandez, Povich back to work. Povich the 63 lefty. He features a fourseam fast ball, a curb, a splitter, a change up, and occasionally uses a cutter. Just missing there. It’s a ball in two strikes. Really good take, especially with two strikes. And that’s downstairs and outside. Two balls, two strikes. That one misses. Full countdown. Spoils the two strike pitch and he’ll see another. I wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball. Try to go again with a fast ball. Slightly elevated. He just having a hard time catching up. That one misses. So a lead off walk. What a battle. It’s not always easy laying off a 3-2 pitch. And I tell you what, he earned that walk. And now Alex call now. Snap throw to first. Hernandez back in on a dive. Here we go. Turn. There’s the strike. [Applause] way out front for strike two. Ed Drummond behind the plate calling balls and strikes, maybe one of the most respected umpires around the league. He’s not the kind of umpire that you’re likely to notice back there and that can be a huge compliment really. So, if you’re just kind of quietly doing your job, staying consistent with your calls, hitters, pitchers, managers, even fans, they’re all going to appreciate you. Ed Drummond. He’s that kind of umpire. Lead runner holds up. They’re at first and second with nobody out. Everything came together for him. Not much to this one other than just a willingness to go the other way and put the ball in play. That’s a team at bat right there. Nice job of staying back and letting the ball get deep. First and second, no outs. Here’s the center fielder, Andy Pahes. He’s been really clutch with runners in scoring position this season, so they’ll have to be extra careful in this matchup. Hitter’s got some good opposite field power. What I like about something being hit to the right side into the outfield is that the base runner at second has a very good read and can determine whether or not he can score on that base hit. The one-1. That one catches the corner for a strike. Back door him with a breaking ball. Just got the corner. There’s nothing you can really do with that. Swang and a ball lifted in the air. Jackson brings it in. Runner tags at second and he’s in safely at third with one out. Batting eight, second base, Alex Freeland. Alex Freeland steps to the plate for the Dodgers. In the grand scheme of things, this at bat might not feel important because it’s early, but it could create a domino effect for things to come. Control what you can here and have a strong at bat. That’s hard hit in the line. squeezes it. Runner tags from third. He’ll score on the sack fly. We’re tied at one. That wasn’t your standard sack fly. He barreled that baseball. Just couldn’t get it to drop in. Here’s Kik Hernandez. Ball game is still tied. They can get out of this inning with a tie game. Call the runner at first with two gone. And a foul ball. He stays alive. Go and two now. One ball in the dirt. Two gone, but the go-ahead run is at first here in the top of the second. Ripped to third, but handled. And that’ll end the inning. So, a run-on one hit, no errors and a man left. Now to the bottom of the second. All tied 1-1 and welcome back to the ballpark. Bottom of the inning. This is Dylan Carlson. Take it high in the draft. He’s had that top prospect labeled over him since he put on a professional uniform. But at some point, that starts to go away and you’ve got to produce at the big league level. And that’s in there at the knees for a strike. Got him looking for the K. Went back to the fastball and it was effective. Well, I think that’s a case of overthinking right there. He got three straight fast balls looking in the 02 count just to pour it back up. And into the box for Baltimore, Colton Cowser and that’s a strike. One down, base is empty. And that one fouled off. Tied up here in the early going. And that just misses. Tough to take a two strike change up that just missed. I think it froze him. Strike three and that’s two in a row. He’s locked in at the plate when he’s using the whole field. He was out in front there. Just needs to let the ball travel a little more and his timing will be back on track. Good pitch for the strikeout. Kobe Mayo will hit next at 96. That pitch is in for a strike. Right-hander kicks, steals late that time and it’s strike two. He finds himself in a tough situation early. Just got to try to simplify it. Take a knock the other way if you can. And that misses one and two to count. his understanding of the strike zone. Very impressive. That was a very close O2 fastball. I just don’t know how you take that. [Applause] Off the mark there. And now it’s three and two. Two out. Base is empty. [Music] Foul ball and it remains a full count. The 3-2 is outside and it’s ball four. One of the things about that two out walk, the base runner over at first base is going to have a very aggressive secondary lead. So, a ball down the line or into the gap will produce a two out RBI. And those are the best. That is if you are the offensive side of it. [Applause] Come on, Orioles. Alex Jackson in the box now. No balls in a strike. There it was. A high velocity fastball in the zone. I think a little frustration from walking the previous hitter. He’s got good stuff. Pitch inside the zone and trust it. Two outs. swinging a drive deep right field. That one’s got a chance and it is out of here. It’s his sixth home run of the season. Just like that, they move in front. It’s 3-1. That’s a fun way to take the league. Just hit one out of the park. [Applause] A good hitter gets pitch recognition early. He saw exactly where that was going to be. The challenge, not get over anxious and come out of your swing. He stayed on it and got all of it. So, two down. So, next they hit for Baltimore. Luis Vasquez. Foul ball there. [Music] Base is empty, two away, but two runs are in. Bottom half of inning number two. Swinging a miss at a slider. No balls, two strikes. Fly ball to right. And that’ll do it. But two come across to score in the inning courtesy of this two-run homer. It’s now a 3-1 ball game. It’s Major League Baseball on the show. Back here in Baltimore, Michael Conforto will climb in. Michael Conorto. Well, after scoring runs, this is where you’re looking for that shutdown inning. Get that hot team back in there to swing the bats. Well, the offense has gotten going and a pitcher wants to go out there, have a real quick inning, get those guys back into the dugout so those bats can stay hot. That one finds the zone and the count is 0 and two. And a curve misses outside. Pitch misses. The countdown now two and two. He’s trying to stay down in the zone, but the hitter just will not chase. Now back in a two- two count. He’s going to have to go to something else to get him out. In the air left field. Carlson sizes this one up. Makes the catch for the owl. Now batting short stop. Mookie bets. Here’s Muki to hit. 0 for one so far. Sing, you talk about a guy that has all the skills. The range is really good, but the arm just stands out and he makes all the plays on the outside corner and it’s 0 and one. And because of that big power arm, he’s able to play a little bit deeper, make throws from the outfield grass all the way across the diamond and still get a pretty good runner. That’s impressive. One down, base is empty. A short stop takes a ball. Worm burner into the outfield for a knock. So, a man aboard now with one away. Well, a swing like that can help you come out of the struggle. We saw the numbers coming into the ball game, but all he’s trying to do at this point is help his team win. The batter now will be Will Smith. One for one with a single so far. Just missed. High chopper to third. Offbalance feed. Here’s one. And that’s two. No runs, one hit, no errors, and no one left. We move on to the bottom of inning number three. It’s the Orioles three and the Dodgers won. Back now at Oriel Park. Set for the bottom of the third. Here’s the Orioles leadoff hitter, Jackson Holiday. Holiday. That’s in there. Go and one. Well, he’s back out here for the third. And after the first couple of innings, pretty rough. I think the skipper is looking for him to give him a little bit of length. See if he can save the bullpen some. Delivers a pitch in for a strike at 95. And that one missing inside. A sharp slider just off the outside corner and the count is even. Two and two. [Applause] in the air left side. Calls it in and there’s one away. Now batting number 82. And next for the Orioles, Jeremiah Jackson flyed to left his first time and that’s in for a strike. It’s 0 and one. Ripped to short, handles, throws to first and there’s two away. Fastball groove right down the middle. Usually a lot of damage done with that pitch. A hard grounder, but he wanted to get that ball in the air. Maybe drive it into the gap. Here’s Ryan Mount Castle. Three pitch strikeout last time up. Got to put up more of a fight in this one. Hard hit right side. Throw to first and it pulls him off the bag. Looked to me like he got on the side of the ball a little too much right there. Maybe a little too casual as well with the throwing motion. And when you don’t stay on top of the ball and really get out front and finish with a good release point, it’s very easy to lose control of it to either side. Emmanuel Rivera getting ready to hit. Grounded out his first time. That’s off the mark. And that’s ball one. And it’s fouled away. Mount Castle off of first with two away. Let’s go swings through that one. One ball, two strike outside with a breaking ball. That misses the zone and that’s ball three. Great RBI spot here. Just got to stay focused on the pitch. The runner will be in motion, so something in the gap should definitely score it. And ball four, two aboard. So close to getting out of it right there, but this inning still has life. Batting leftielder and into the box for Baltimore. Dylan Carlson went down looking on three pitches last time. Let’s see if he can be a little more aggressive right here. Come on. Top of the zone for a called strike. When you’re struggling out there on the mound, hitters know that there’ll be plenty of opportunities within the at bat to try to get something to hit hard. Two on, two outs. Fouled off left side. the O2 and down on strikes. Make it four strikeouts for him on the bump today. Two left on onto inning number four. It’s the Orioles three and the Dodgers won. And we’re back. Start of the fourth and at the plate for the Dodgers, Freddy Freeman. O check swing called strike. You know these Dodgers doing a great job, Boo, of just waiting for the right pitch to come their way. And I’m seeing very patient at bats out of him. He’s only giving up one run, but the starter pitch count is starting to get up there. And that might be the best news yet for this offense. Way high there. Two and one. You know, sometimes all it takes is getting to the next arm before an offense does any damage. And that might be the case today. That one misses. And that’s ball three late with the swing there. He’s been pitching well, but we’ll see what kind of adjustment the hitters make this second time through the order. We’ll know if he’s got really swing and this one’s blasted. It’s got a chance and foul as it bangs off the fence. Hacks and misses. It’s a strikeout. This guy will throw any pitch in any count. 3-2. He goes off speed. Gets the out. Oscar Hernandez. And now Tayscar Hernandez. He reached out to walk his first time. [Applause] Pitch in the dirt. Ball one. And there’s a ball. Get your head out. That one’s spoiled. And the count now two and one. Here’s a swing and a drive left field and he knew it. He circles the bases. His 22nd homer of the year. It’s 3-2. Knew what pitch he wanted to hit. Spent on some other pitches in this at bat. was very patient and it paid off. Alex call now at the plate. A single his first time and a foul ball. One out. Base is empty and a run in. Top half of inning number four. Ripped on the ground to second. Fires over to first. Now two out. Now batting center fielder Andy Pahes. And next for LA, Andy Pahes flyed to right his first time. in there at the knees and that is strike one. Smoked on the ground to second out number three, but not before they’re able to draw closer with this blast. It’s now a 32 ball game. You’re dialed into the show. And welcome back to the ballpark. Ready to go for the last half of the inning. And into the box for Baltimore, Colton Cowser. That one ripped left field. Call going back. Pulls it in on the warning track. Outstanding catch right there. And I love the commitment that he showed. He knew that the wall was close, but was determined to make that catch and a nice calculation of just how much room he had to try to minimize that contact. Mayo takes low. Second trip to the plate in this one. And another ball. [Applause] That misses the zone. Ball three. [Applause] Fast ball for a strike at 95. Base is empty, one away. We’re here in the bottom of the fourth. Bottom of the zone and a called strike. We got a full count. Fouled off again and it remains three and two. stays alive. Good battle here. About to be the eighth pitch of the at a swing and a miss. Beat him with a fast ball. Came inside with that two- strike fast ball nicely and just bunched him up on the inside part of the plate. couldn’t get around on it and catch it out front. Many times if you do, it’s a foul ball. And you know, a lot of pitchers, they really don’t like working inside with two strikes because they do not want to hit that batter. And when they’ve got him up against the ropes, got to figure out a way to put him away. Did a nice job right there. Fast for a strike. One more. Let’s go. Cuts and misses. It’s a strike out. One, two, three go the Orioles. And it remains a 3-2 ball game. All set for the start of the inning. Digging in, Alex Freeland. Freeland. Freeland measures 6’2 in 23 years old and he was a third round pick in 2022. That one missed. And that gets the top of the zone for a strike. That one finds the corner. Going to count one and two. So far, all we’ve seen in this at bat are fast balls. Look for him to slow it down right here ahead in the count. Swag and a miss. Struck him out and he’s registered three Ks in this one. Oh, that was perfect execution of that curveball down and in. He gets it out of the danger zone and you really can’t do it much better than that. It’s in the zone the entire way, so you have to swing as a hitter, but then just falls off the table and almost hits you in the back foot. Hernandez batting for the second time and that’s strike one. Well, we call that keyhole. Even though it’s right there and looks pretty good. If he doesn’t love it, he’s not going to swing that early in the count. The Dodgers trailing by a run and we’re in the top of the fifth. That one off the mark and it’s two and one. That to right. Jackson moving under it. Two down. Now batting the designated hitter, Michael Conorto. So the batting order turns over and here is Michael Conforto. One for two. And first offering is fouled off. There’s the strike [Applause] and he hits a ground ball right side. He takes it himself to the bag and that’ll do it. So they make short work of him there. Home half of the fifth coming up. It’s the Orioles three and the Dodgers two. Back here in Baltimore, John Shabi with my buddy Chris Singleton and set to get us started. Bottom five, Luis Vasquez. Let’s go. And a first pitch fastball is in for a strike. Activity in the bullpen for the Dodgers. Show Otanati looks to be getting ready for manager Dave Roberts. Number 78 also throwing the one. And that drops in for a strike and misses inside. Fans another and that’s three straight strikeouts. We’re going to take a look at the pitch sequence of that at bat and the thing to notice are the pitch locations. every single one of them on the edges of the strike zone. And as a hitter, that can be pretty frustrating because you don’t expect a pitcher to be able to make quality pitches one after another like that. And so those are tough spots to do damage and a great demonstration of pitch command. And it got him a punch out that time. Now, here is Jackson Holiday, first pitch, and he just misses. He’s controlling things out there on the mound, not messing around at all. He’s been in attack mode since the very start. One down, base is empty. That’s outside and that’s ball two. Tried to back door him with that slider right there, but just missed off the plate. Good pitch though. Hit on the ground up the middle. That’s a base hit and they have their first hit since the second inning. All right, let’s go. Now batting number 80 and the Dodgers will go to the bullpen. Number 80 departs and a decent effort considering he’s normally reliever. Back with the new pitcher in a minute. New pitcher for the Dodgers Otani. He last pitched four days ago, so he should feel pretty fresh. man at first. Jeremiah Jackson digs in now. He might want to steal second in this spot, but he’s dealing with a catcher that has one of the best pop times in the game. He needs to pick his spot very wisely. [Applause] First offering runner goes strike in there. Safe at second with a stolen base. [Applause] swings through the sweeper. One out and a runner at second. Last half of inning number five. This one in the dirt. Man at second. Swing and a miss. Strike three. That one came in at 99. I love to see guys compete and I know he’s frustrated that he wasn’t able to do anything with that pitch. You see it so well, but you have to respect the upper 90s velocity. Man, it is hard to catch up to. Ryan Mount Castle will hit next. Bowl for two in this one. Fast ball for a strike. Holiday stands at second with two gone. Swing and a miss and it’s nothing in two. Ball one there. That was absolute gas. Triple digits on the gun. It’s just a different experience as a hitter watching that go by. Next offering upstairs. Wow, that’s a tough pitch to lay off. got him looking for the strikeout. That was pretty nasty. Excellent work out of the Dodgers bullpen there. We’re through five. It’s the Orioles three and the Dodgers two. Back now at Oral Park. Top six. Now it’s Wookie Betts. Povich back to work. That one is absolutely belted. No one can get there. It falls in. And the tying runs at second base with a double. Oh, that started and ended pretty quickly. No messing around right there. When you connect and it jumps off your bat like that, you’re thinking double at the very least. He put a great swing on it and man, he wasn’t fooled at all. Now a pretty big at bat coming up with a chance to even this ball game up. Manager out of the dugout now and it looks like we’ll see a change on the mound. Cade Povich is done and he really had to grind it out but he does leave with the lead. New arm of the mound in a moment coming out for the Orioles Dean Kramer. And compared to a lot of other relievers, strikeouts have not been a big weapon for him this year. So, the defense should be active. Will Smith to the plate. That one finds the zone. Strike one. I feel with the way that Will Smith is able to handle the bat, control the bat head, he’s very capable of finding green space and driving in that run. [Applause] fouled off down the right side. [Applause] And the O2 chopped on the ground and that chance handled. The throw to first and they get the out on Smith. Now that first baseman Freddy Freeman. So now it’s Freddy Freeman. I’m curious how he decides to attack on the mound. This guy at the plate has been great hitting under pressure this year. [Applause] And that’s downstairs. And it’s Juan and Oo. That one missing inside. Well, this is a little tough for the hitter in the back of the mind. You’re wondering with first base open, am I going to get a pitch to hit? Got to stay back. Let your hands work. Stay in the middle of the field. With the tying run at third and we’re the top half of the sixth. Right side hard hit. Freeman is out. There’s two away. Now batting right fielder Tayscar Hernandez. Here’s Tayscar Hernandez. He’s already homered here in this one. Pitch is in there and that’s strike one. I think he was sitting off speed right there because he just let the fast ball go by. There’s the strike. [Applause] And that’s downed away. Well, that’s kind of what you expect in an 02 count. Excellent job of the hitter to have the plate disciplined to lay off of that pitch on the ground to the left and foul ball. That wasn’t an easy pitch to hit. It’s much easier to do damage against mistakes, but that’s not what that pitch was. Just missed. And that one is in the dirt. Three and two now. Tay Oscar goes down on strikes, but they push across one run on one base hit. No errors and no one left. To the bottom of the six we go. 456 coming up. All tied up at three apiece. And we’re back now. The third baseman, Emmanuel Rivera. And that’s outside. Activity in the bullpen. Michael Copek getting loose out there. Yates getting loose as well. late on that fast ball. Just not able to catch up to that velocity. And there’s a strike on the outside corner. [Music] That one not close. It’s two and two and downstairs [Applause] foul. We’ll see another payoff pitch. The healthy cut, tough pitch at 98, but a really good pass at the ball. Foul ball and it remains a full count. [Music] You can do it. Come on. It’s a leadoff walk and that’s the go-ahead run. Second walk of the game for him and he’s been really patient at the play. a game plan that he’s sticking to. He’s just not going outside of what he’s looking for up there. Dylan Carlson the next to hit for the Orioles who’s 0 for two with a pair of strikeouts. [Applause] On the ground could be two. The throw to second is offline. The throw is late and they don’t get an out on the play. A potential double play ball hit to first is probably the toughest one to execute cleanly. That first baseman, he’s got a very tough throwing lane to deal with because of the runner headed to second base. And a lot of times guys try to throw over or around the runner which can really mess up a throw like that. Still definitely an error though. First and second, no outs. Colton Cowser the next to hit. Just missed. One, no strike. Highf fly ball out to left field. Call under it. And there’s one down. You got me. Now batting first baseman Kobe Mayo. And now the first baseman Kobe Mayo. He is struck out and he is walked. Well, all eyes on the double play ball in this spot. No better way to get out of this inning. the 10 and fouled off [Applause] the one-1. That’s a ball tried to attack with the sweeper. Could be some action here on this next pitch. Couple runners on. Probably a challenge pitch coming. Hey, you got this. The 2-1 and that’s downstairs and outside. Way to lay off that pitch down with the go-ahad run standing at second here in the bottom of the six. [Applause] As a hitter, you don’t know what to expect here in the 3-2. If he’ll throw a breaking ball 3-1, he’ll do it again. 3-2 goes down looking. Just locked him up right there for the second out. And that’s an at bat he’s probably going to be thinking about for a little while. Didn’t pull the trigger. Not how you want to go down in an RBI spot. So now you got to hope your teammate behind you can pick you up. And here’s Alex Jackson. He’s already homered in this game. Oh, [Applause] fast ball is outside. [Applause] Swing and a miss. Strike one. Boo. That’s cheddar, baby. [Applause] Two outs inside at 100 and a count is three and one. Luis Vasquez in the on deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. And that one is lifted in the air. call moving under this one drops into the glove and that is the inning. Orioles strand a couple so no change in the score. It’s 3-3. Welcome back. We’re in the seventh. We have a new pitcher on the mound, Keegan Aken. And he’s been really shutting down hitters from the right side of the plate this year. Not a lot of hard contact, not a lot of hits, period. Alex Call steps to the plate for the Dodgers. Next offering popped in the air right field. And there’s one away. And up next for Los Angeles, Andy Pahes. Come on. That misses. Ball one. Action in the pen down there. Kyle Bradish is up and throwing for Brandon Hyde. Number 86. The power lefty up as well. All tied up here in the top half of inning number seven. And another ball. He swings and hits a fly ball center field. Touches down. That’s a hit. And a go-ahehead run is on base. Boo. I don’t think that pitch would have been called a strike, but he did such a nice job of pulling his hands tight to the body and just getting enough of the barrel on it to be hard enough back up the middle for a knock. Go ahead run on base. Alex Freeland steps to the plate for the Dodgers. Ground ball up the middle into the outfield. Base hit and the go-ahead run into scoring position. One away. Couple of singles back to back. Really nice job staying up the middle with his approach. He didn’t try to do too much with the pitch. Just shot it through the infield. A chance now to take the lead. And at this point in the game, that could be a deciding run. Here’s Kik Hernandez. At the dish, looking to lift the ball in the air in this spot. Anything but the inning ending double play. Boo. Two on, one out. Strike one to Kik Hernandez. really going after him here. All fast balls to get ahead in the count. And a one, two. Ground ball right side. Could be two. There’s one. And that’s two. Well, the second base made that one look easy. Great feed to the shortstop. Shortstop completes the play. They get out of a jam and they end the inning. Now pitching. We’re back in a new pitcher here to start the bottom of the seventh. Michael Copek. Michael Copc. And the batter will be the shortstop Luis Vasquez. Short stop. Luis Vasquez started after it. Appeal to first. No swing. He held up. Clyde Washington with the call there. Yeah, that’s fouled off. Copek deals and a swing and a miss. There’s that slider. Clearly, he was sitting on a fast ball right there and just ended up out in front of the slider. Hey, you can’t fault him for his commitment. Now he’s just going to have to battle with two strikes and a base hit. So, a man on base to start the inning. Now, I’m sure he feels really good about that one. You’ll often hear the phrase short to it, long through it. And that’s a great example of it right there. Got the barrel in the hitting zone early, squared it up with the welltimed swing, and came away with a beautiful line drive into center field. Back to the top of the order now. Now at the plate, Jackson Holiday [Applause] that misses the zone and that’s ball one. [Applause] right through there for a strike. Well, it looks like he’s wanting to work the upper part of the strike zone. What does that mean? Top hand better be working for the hitters. Adjust that side a little bit. Give yourself a chance to hit. That’s a strike at the count. One and two with two strikes. May see some movement over there at first base. Trying to stay out of the double play right here. The go-ahead run aboard at first. Nobody out. Good eye right there. And that’s awfully close. I don’t know how you take that. He’s seeing the ball out of the pitcher’s hand really well right now. And that one missing low. This is a really good feeling for a hitter at this point in the ball game. You know that they don’t want to walk you. So, you’re going to get a pitch to hit. You just better not miss it. [Applause] Popped up. Freeman. What was that? He’s got it. One away. Bill, that was a pitch you got to crush. Unbelievable that he missed it right there. And I’m telling you, he is going to be frustrated with himself until his next at bat. Now, the number two hitter, Jeremiah Jackson, 0 for three. A fly out, a ground out, and a strike out. swung on, belted, and an automatic double as it hops the fence. And boy, do they catch a break. Otherwise, you’re looking at runners around the bases and probably a run that scores. So, two in scoring position with one out. Ryan Mount Castle the next to hit for the Orioles in there for a strike at the bottom of the zone. Definitely a strikeout situation right here. Lots of ways for that go-ahead run to score if the ball’s put in play. And that is cut on and missed. And that is strike two. Here’s a sackfly situation. And he’s got to make sure he gets the ball out over the plate and get those arms extended. They’re trying to crowd him with the infield in. This be a big pickoff if he can push a run across with a go ahead run at third here in the bottom of the seventh. That’s way outside and that is ball one. [Applause] Hard hit right side. Throw on to Freeman and he’s out. Well, there’s a lot riding on that at bat right there. Nice job of the pitcher to bear down, make the pitch, get the ground ball. Excellent piece of work. So, here’s the cleanup hitter, Emmanuel Rivera. He’s 0 for one. It’s been such a good hitter with runners in scoring position. Some guys just take it to another level. For him right now at the plate, it’s like everyone else is in slow motion and he’s in full speed. That one finds the zone. That’s strike one. And I know you want to be patient as a hitter, but you got to be ready to jump on the first thing straight. And he got one right there. But left the bat on his shoulder. Swinging a foul back and that’s out of play. Two on, two outs. [Applause] Breaking ball misses down and away. [Applause] And it’s even up. Man, oh man. I don’t know how you take that pitch. That’s as close as it gets. Gets a piece and stays alive. [Applause] Swing and a miss. And he’s down on strikes. And we stay tied as the inning ends. Well, this guy competes hard. We see the emotion there. I love it. Great job of getting out of the jam. Welcome back. And a new arm on the mound to start the eighth. Number 86. He’s having a ton of success facing left-handed hitters this season. So, this seems like a smart move to turn to him with a lefty at the plate. The batter will be Michael Conforto. One for three. Michael. Ah, that hit him. And the leadoff man is aboard to start the inning. Dodgers. Here’s Mookie Betts. Now you have to be careful throwing and breaking pitches even in an O count. He loves going after the off speed stuff and he’s really good at hitting it. Misses outside. One and0 movement in the Orioles bullpen. Yenir Canó appears to be getting loose. and the one. And there’s a ball. Swing and a miss. It might be time to choke up a little bit. Get that front foot down early. Maybe even just spread out. He’s really late right now. There’s a strike to Muki. on the ground. Two ball. Here’s Holiday for one. Back to first. And that is a double play. Oh man, what a smooth double play. That was a thing of beauty from start to finish. Now Will Smith. Swing and a miss. 98 on the gun. And it’s one and one on the ground to short. Sends it across to first and they get the out on Smith and that is the inning. Nothing doing it for the Dodgers here. Score remains tied at three. Back now, new pitcher on the mound as we roll into the bottom of the eighth, Kirby Yates. He’s been so good against lefties. And here is Dylan Carlson. 0 for three in this one. Well, both sides equally as strong. So, not a good time to try to turn him around with a relief pitcher and put him on the other side of the plate. And the first pitch misses for ball one. [Applause] And that one fouled off. [Music] Here’s a one, two, gets under and pops it up and it drops in. Had a good start to the inning. Well, he found himself behind in the count right there, but he didn’t give in. He clearly didn’t catch that one on the big part of the bat. Just kind of muscled it out there. And, you know, on the mound, it can be pretty frustrating for a pitcher, but you just kind of have to expect those to drop in there sometimes. Making a move at first and pinch running for the Orioles. Jorge Matteo. No outs. Runner at first. Colton Cowser the next to hit for the Orioles. [Applause] Ball one and a pitch inside. If you’re a base runner, you got to stay dialed in here. Look for anything in the dirt. Try your best to get into scoring position. Yates with a move to first. Matteo back safely. This might be a steel situation, but that’s not your average catcher behind the dish. You have to be careful here. [Applause] the one a bit behind with that swing. It’s strike one. The Dodgers bullpen with some action. Tanner Scott looks to be getting ready for manager Dave Roberts. [Applause] Swinging a highf fly ball out there towards left field. puts it away for the out. Now batting first baseman Kobe Mayo. So digging in Kobe Mayo. A walk and a pair of strikeouts. And that one upstairs. Ball one. [Applause] Good approach right there. You want to get something just a little higher that you can elevate. Stay out of that double play. [Applause] Swing and a miss as he was late that time. One away. Tie game. Go ahead run stands at first. On the ground left side. Six four three double play and the inning is over. They made it look easy, but it started with a nice feed to the second baseman from the shortstop. Perfect turn and they’re out of this jam. Welcome back. And here comes the closer Year Cano. Well, he struggled quite a bit. So, this is another opportunity to get on the right track. He’s given up more than one hit per inning pitch so far this season. Number 56. He’s out in left field getting loose there as he enters the game on defense now. Number 56 Freddy Freeman up to the dish known for his late inning heroics. And that drops in for a strike. [Applause] And now two balls in a strike. [Applause] And that’s ruled the swing. It’s a strike out. Tays Oscar Hernandez getting ready to hit. Oscar Hernandez. [Applause] Swinging a foul. out of play. That’s in there. That’s strike two. Activity in the bullpen for Baltimore. Kyle Bradish is up and throwing for Brandon Hyde. And a swing and a miss. down on strikes coming out of the bullpen and throwing BBs chance to strike out the side. Now you talk about the benefits, the advantages of relievers who can come in and get the swing and miss whether it’s inherited runners or maybe a little jam that they get into themselves knowing that they can miss the bat. Tell you what, that’s huge and can change the ball game. So, two down now and here is Alex Call. And a first pitch fast ball is in for a strike. Two down, nobody on here in the top of the ninth. And a swing and a miss. keeps the atbat going with a foul ball. [Applause] The next offering misses and the count is one and two. Battling here as he fouls it away. [Applause] [Music] fouls it off. Still one and two. Fouled off and they’ll do it again. Eighth pitch of the at coming up. fights that one away. Still one and two. Also really good at bat. What I like about this guy, his bat stays in the zone for a long time. Gives him the ability to foul off tough pitches. And a good eye there. Well, this is a guy that can be frustrating for pitchers because he fouls off so many pitches and grinds out the atbat. I’m sure there’s sometimes where a pitcher would rather just give up a first pitch single than have to waste six or seven p. That’s a base hit. Zoe gets a hit after a long battle with the pitcher. But when you see that many pitches in an at bat, your chances of succeeding go up. And right there we see the result. Substitution now at first base. Coming in as the pinch runner, Justin Dean go ahead run on base. Now a chance for Andy Pahus. That one’s in there. And one and one. This one popped up. Foul ground first base side. Makes the grab and that’s the third out. So one hit is all they get. 891 do up in the bottom of inning number nine. All tied up at three apiece. So bottom of the ninth, here’s the catcher, Alex Jackson leading off for the Orioles. Catcher Alex Jackson. Yates back to work. that misses the zone and it’s one and0. Activity in the bullpen for the Dodgers. Tanner Scott looks to be getting ready for manager Dave Roberts. [Music] The one swing and a ball lifted left field brings it in and there’s one down. Now batting Orioles making a move for a pinch hitter Gunnar Henderson. And this is a big at bat coming boo. Definitely a little added pressure on him here. [Applause] And a strike. Base is empty. One away. We’re in the last half of the ninth inning. Not close with that one. And it’s a ball and a strike. Swinging a ground ball and it’s just fouled. That was close. Swing and a highf fly ball hit the air left center field. This one’s got a chance. Out of here. Ball game. That one felt good and the Orioles walk it off for the win. [Applause] Hitting a walk-off homer is the kind of thing you dream about growing up. You’re in the backyard, you’re creating the most pressure packed scenario, and what do you do? You come through with the big swing. Well, he was living a childhood moment right there. Nice swing of the bat. Nice win for the team. 4-3 our final score as the Orioles win this one. For Chris Singleton and our entire outstanding crew here at MLB the show, I’m John Shami. We’ll see you soon.
